Personally?
Size and scale.

Some novels mention millions of human soldiers dying in single battles and marching for months to cross a province.

Some novels mention 10,000 as being an exceedingly large force and they travel the length of a province in weeks.

Some books and maps make their world look our size with a limited number of towns, villages, and cities.

Some books and maps have been measured out and compared to ours to show that the Warhammer world is 7-10 times ours and there are nearly infinite tiny villages and cities to fluff for yourself.

>>
>>48095206
Pretty much everything east of the mountains of Mourn. We have some information on Cathay, but almost nothing on Ind (other than tiger beastmen) Khuresh or Nippon. Pretty much all the fandexes covering those areas just copy paste real world history and mythology and change the names a little, to the point where they don't even feel like they are taking place in the Warhammer world.

Perhaps in this thread we could speculate what goes on in the east?

How do the humans of ind interact with all the weird beastmen and gods there?

How do we design a Nippon without it being a complete Weebfest?

What kind of fucked up shit goes on in the kingdoms of Khuresh where all we really know is that blood nagas rule there?
>>

Just finished glueing some clanrats. I actually managed to sort all 20 in the box within a couple of hours. They're incredibly easy to do, because it's just body and weapon arm.
>>
>>48096875
To be fair, most of the Warhammer World is really just taking stuff from real world history, aside from Naggaroth and such. That's what gives it strength - it's based at least loosely on real world, believable locations and events.
>>
>>48097361
Ever read the Mathias fandexes? the problem with the fluff isn't that it's based on real world cuktures, it's that it doesn't feel immersed in the warhammer world. The empire is loosely based on the HRE but they're still regularly fighting off beastmen, orcs and skaven, interacting with elves and trading with dwarfs. With those fandexes you get almost no mention of the other factions. No orc WAAAGH Tearing through Nippon and pitting black orcs against samurai. No Lizardmen attacking an Indan city unprovoked because the God they worship there is actually a greater daemon of tzeentch. No dwarf expedition finding its way to the court of the dragon emperor, or tomb King invasion of a cathay city to settle some trading dispute that king had with the rulers of that city back when he was alive. There's a difference between loosely based on the the real world and copying directly from it. There are even things that are canon to the warhammer world for those factions that got left out because they didn't match the real world culture enough! Even this would have been okay if there was at least a sense that this was taking place in the warhammer world and not just a fantastical version of our world
>>
I think it shows a great deal of restraint that they never stooped so low as to make a weeb Nippon army.

There technically is a Nippon army though. Just not a human one.

There's also no new content being created for WHFB though.
We used to go through 2-3 threads a day for WHFB when new books and shit got released.

AoS is getting new shit all the time and threads still last 1-2 days each.

And the number of posts by 60 people on an Algerian rare mango appreciation forum doesn't contradict GW's abysmal sales and the fact that AoS is currently underselling 8th edition WHFB (the edition that made GW scrap the entire setting).

I feel like it also depends on the type roleplayer a person is.

I like the idea of the world being huge and having many billions of people when I'm a DM.
It gives me options and lets me just make shit up and say "oh yeah it's just one of those cities that's on that part of the map".

When I'm the player I prefer that it's smaller because it makes everything seem more important.
Helping stave off an orc invasion is huge when it could wipe out a province.

Not so much when millions die and literally nothing changes because "there's always more peasants lol".

>>48104486
Millions of casuals still play 8th edition just because it's the official last book put out.

Certain tournaments and internet-savvy youngsters who go on the 4changz (a vast minority) primarily try to play 9th.
>>
>>48104486
Depends
some groups like me and my friends play 8th while my LGS plays 9th ed. i should mention that they play bloodbowl more than AoS and they dont play bloodbowl often. this says something about aos's popularity

>I like the idea of the world being huge and having many billions of people when I'm a DM.
Oh yeah, I can relate to that.
One of the reasons I love Dark Heresy is that the DM can just pull a new planet out of their ass whenever it's needed.

I played in a setting where the map was roughly 10 times the size of our Earth's and it brought a whole bunch of questions and problems with it.
(plus shorter days and longer years made the given values for actions and distances kinda retarded. Not to mention that a 3 year old human child in the setting was on the same physical and mental level maturity as a 3 year old IRL. It made people argue about menstruation cycles and shit.)
All that huge map meant though that 2/3 of the main continent was empty, often with huge swathes of nothing between countries.
Bigger can be cool but the writers better be ready to address those questions.
>>
>>48102711
They kind of worked with the Bretonnians a few times, especially in the lead up to the End Times. And they have fucking trees for some heavy infantry and shit.
>>
>>48095302
I always liked the larger scale of things presented in 8ed BRB, with hundreds of thousands of Knights between the empire and bretonnia, million man armies and the major human cities being huge metropolises miles across. Also like the idea that there are countless towns and minor cities throughout the empire, not important enough to be put on the map but still rather large by real life standards. The big scale makes the constant battling more believable in my opinion, and explains how there can be dozens if not hundreds of major conflicts going on at once without crippling the nation and draining the population of all able bodied men.
>>
>>48104151
>Bretonnia
>Slaves of wood elves.

Naw tho
>>
>>48105155
They were essentially slaves to the wood elves in earlier editions though. The Lady was actually Ariel in disguise, and the fay spirits were just regular wood elves. It wasn't until 8th that the Lady and Ariel were retconned into separate deities, and even then the Lady was still an elf goddess in disguise
>>
>>48105288
She was in disguise, but she was in disguise because she preferred humans to the wood elves.
>>
>>48095206

This.

Wait until the next 9th Age lorebook gets released.

Although I miss when we were about listbuilding. Everyone who posts lists gets almost no replies anymore.
>>
>>48104355
What are you talking about? Monsters are awesome in 9th Age, just not face-rapingly so.

You don't sent a Dragon straight into knights because it'll be killed, but you don't have to worry about ranged options dropping it by turn 2 either.

Your monsters actually get good play now, especially with target mitigation. Just don't put your General on a monster, or else it'll obviously be the primary target for everything.
>>
>>48104486
Whatever your group plays, there's a split between 8e, Kings of War, and 9th Age as the replacement.

But hey, at least you have the lore and modelling sections regardless. Not to mention the memories.
>>
>>48105341
Fuck, I play all three races of Elves and this is my headcanon.

Isha and Kurnous got split in half so their youthful spirits live with the Wood Elves while their weak and elder spirits live in the Everqueen and the herds of horses in Ellyrion respectively.

Lileath is the Lady, but her preferred race is the Bretonnians with her giving the High Elf heroes her support from time to time.

Asuryan works with subtlety guiding all of the High Elves, Tyrion and Malekith are both champions of Khaine because Khaine favors everybody in order to cause conflict, and as a result nobody.

Loec is the strongest Elf god because he plays with all factions, all races, and even meddles in the affairs of Chaos. He and Morai-Heg are the reason the Warhammer World is in a constant status quo, they shake up things then quite them to alleviate the pressure that could destabilize everything.

The Elf gods aren't diminishing, but the influence they have is because most of them are hedonistic and prefer to dwell among mortals having fun while the rest are too busy fighting each other. You know, like a proper pantheon of gods.

How is interracial love viewed in the old world? Can en elf and a human fall in love? Can a dwarf and a human love eachother?

Almost non existent outside of Gotrek and Felix novels.
High Elves for the most part view humans the same way humans view greenskins, and any elf having sex with a human would be seen as some sort of degenerate, though rape of humans likely exists among dark and wood elves. Dwarfs have totally different standards of beauty when it comes to their women folk and probably find human women disgusting. Elf and dwarf is about as likely to happen as lizardmen and Skaven, as in never. Orcs and lizardmen don't even reproduce sexually or feel love, and skaven are incapable of forming romantic relationships and view breeding the same way animals do.

I don't know about love, but SEX certainly happens between the races.

Of course, if you pork a halfling, you're endlessly mocked, but hey, those pies.

Dwarfs rarely see their own women and even more rarely get to touch them. In general dwarfs are stodgy and conservative about sex, but some cut loose. There's a slayer in G&F who regularly entertains human prostitutes, though he claims that tales of him bagging elf sisters is highly inaccurate (only one was an elf, and a half-elf, he says).

Teclis in G&F keeps a pair of human twins as sex pets, presumably because by elf standards he's Stephen Hawking. A barbarian hottie from Albion wants his ivory tower until he goes a little kill crazy mid-battle and starts laughing like a maniac while killing people.

WFRP 2e mentions a druchii masquerading as a wood elf trying to stir up trouble in the Wasteland, ostensibly to "aid the people," but really to weaken the city so a corsair fleet can sack it. He had a lot of female admirers, but hopefully for them they did so from a distance.

That said I am a fan of the original sexual orc reproduction because it adds to their society and allows for half orcs like in early fluff.

It's the same MEGA archive, so don't worry about it needing updating. It updates it automatically when I put new material in my local directory.

I've reached the point of the Strike to Stun forums now where it's just dead link after dead link, it seems like most of the stuff I'm finding now are things I've already added, only the most obscure stuff left. If anyone here in this thread have any of their own homebrew I'd be happy to add that.

Also does anyone here have a scribd account? There's some rules for cannons and such someone posted that I can't get to.
>>
>>48109013
>So how strong and fast are individual vampires fluff-wise?
Depends.
The weakest vampire is going to be faster and stronger than most humans by default.

Doesn't mean they won't get #rekt by some Conan the barbarian master of the ninja arts folded 1 million times katana human.

For the average vampire imagine a normal guy at the max of his strength and speed capabilities.
There are of course ancient douchebag vamps like vlad that could probably crumble steel in a fist but that's not the majority.

Magic is what vampires really rely on.
Even blood knights have magic flowing through their veins.

>old and venerable among the forest spirits, these dryads have long left aside their vengeful aspect and embraced the sorrow of the late stages of life; the ones who do not retire in the most hidden spots of the forests usually manufacturing scythed staffs from their birthplace and becoming herder of trees; they roam the forest followed by the other numerous and eterogeneous spirits of athel loren, from small spites to boarbeetles to the great crawling oaks; the branchwitches are not truly conventional sheperds, they do not care about the movements of the creatures above the ground as much as they care for the worldroots underneath: they follow the leylines of power deep down the earth and the way the roots intertwin around them and a between themselves; the roots and the branches above are used to spread the wishpers of the forest and share the memories of all the spirits in it, the branchwitches take the role of guardians and vessels for these memories, for this reason the ways cleared by the passage of a branchwitch are the most clear and audible, attracting the attentions of many, but especially the simpler minds of the beasts of athel loren.

>HAMADRETH TREEHIVES
>as the elves they consider kindred beings, the spirits of athel loren too have a psyche that tends to extremes: emotions not only alter their mood but their forms too, twisting minds and bodies for what can be a week, a season or even an aeon. but unlike the elves, they are so linked with the forest and its other inhabitants that their thoughts may spread like a contagion; despite this being an accepted aspect by the spirits of the forest, it is not left unchecked for it can both mean harmony between creatures and create havoc in the natural order; common (for spirits lifespans) are the councils to share and discuss potentially dangerous thoughts, other measures are more extreme: in cases when a spirit wasn't reasonable anymore to be becalmed it is treated as a cancerous presence by the forest and a cage of living wood grow over it, constricting the crazed being and cutting it from the contact with other spirits to not spread their madness; the overgrowth of wood and roots barely discernable from the rest of the plants if not for the muffled screaming and the costant buzzing of wings of the spites that make their nest on it, they are in fact protectors and jailers, but also bite deeper and deeper into the caged spirit, slowly devouring its will and essence. most of these caged spirits are immobile, but the most determined can focus their bestial fury to the point they can twist their cages into new limbs at will and will seek to run away in their bloodthirst; in the rare cases such things happen the forest will grow intricate labyrinths of mists and portals so that the hamadreth may not harm other beings and be kept in the farthest places of the forest, but Athel Loren is always in need of powerful warriors and the hamadreths are usually more hateful of enemies than allies so they are unleashed on the battlefields of the world, especially where chaos is present as madness is usually recognized having roots in it.

also how do you handle the Remains in play spells
can the one who has no wizard roll to dispel them on his magic phase as if he was casting spells, and can you use dispel dice to try and stop the dispel

Well, it borders Sylvania, so it's a sort of a frontier zone between the Empire and the (technically still a part of the empire) territorries of the Von Carsteins.

It's also one of the most piss-poor areas of The Empire, being largely rural backwater, so much of the population are village folk and woodsmen.

Their colours are green and yellow, and their standard is a human skeleton blowing a hunting horn.

Once you go black powder Fantasy you can't go back.
>>
>>48112071

You can still Dispel. You normally nominate a wizard to Dispel who then gains a bonus to his power level; L4s get +4, L2s get +2 etc.
So you're always going to be rolling against your opponents wizard level which makes it harder, but ultimately it's 'only' a +4 modifier at worst.

RiP spells disappear with the caster's death.
If it belonged to your opponent, see Dispels above. You can still try but you gain no benefit to the roll.

You don't skip the phase because you might still have Bound magic spells, or the enemy might have some items that can only be activated in the correct phase. What often happens is that you generate a bunch of dice, then put them all aside and go on to shooting.

>summerstorm charge: impact hits 3d3, all attacks, including the summerstorm's, get +2 strenght during the charge
>armored crest: attacks coming from the front arc of the model considers the wardroth's toughness as being 7 and its armor save as being 3+

Can a Carmine Dragon use its breath weapon multiple times per game? It costs 5 points more than a regular dragon but has far weaker stats which I don't think are worth having Scaly Skin (2+) instead of (3+). If it doesn't then a carmine dragon isn't worth it over a regular dragon. If it does then it might be useful to hammer large things with the breath.

Any Poles here that would like to help me translate some of the Warhammer: Araby fan book for WHFRP 2e?

The solid rules are straightforward, but since I'm not a native Polish speaker the wordier fluff sections that give context to the rules would take me a while to do.

It wouldn't be too much work, just a couple of paragraphs translated.

Unless specified otherwise, no, it can't
>>
>>48114446

Without access to the rules, I'm inclined to say that it's one-use only.
Breath Weapons are a pretty standard weapon and unless it very specifically calls out multiple uses, the basic rules make it a one-shot.
I'd also say that you#re underplaying the value of a 2+ save, especially on something that big. It's literally twice as tough against low-S hits and makes the Carmine horribly tanky.

Don't suppose you have a screen of the official rules?

I'm willing to say RAW it isn't considered as a breath weapon, as breath weapon is supposed to be an omonimous special rule and the breath weapon here is mentioned primarly as fluff notation and as a callback to reduce the lenght of the rule for the purpose of placing the line; it is also written without capital letters used to indicate strictly rule-related words or terms like names or rules.
so it is possible to use it every turn.

On the other hand I think the rule was intended to work like a breath weapon for that purpose too, buton the if we treat it as a breath weapon in all regards we would end up with the open possibility of its use in close combat and 2d6 automatic wounds that multiply into d3 each with no armor saves is pure, absolute cheese that wouldn't be the intention of any rule-writer.

we have a case of bad writing, I'd opt to either treat it raw as a purely unconventional attack, so usable each turn, or to treat it like I think was the intention with only one use and no possible close combat, given the underpowered state of the model, RAW is better, but don't cheese it by circling on enemies blasting a rank every turn, all turns.

The Empire is obviously the Holy Roman Empire, but with the HRE being as huge as it was, that's not saying too much. What are /tg/s thoughts on what provinces of the Empire correspond to what parts of Germany/Austria/Poland/Czech Republic/Etc

8th Brb mentioned unique one horned ogres, Golden Dragons and legions of terracotta automaton (pic related). Tamurkhan csmpaign book had a whole battle with Cathay vs Beastmen that had Magic fireworks that created terror inducing illusionary monsters, powerful elemental wizards who at least knew the fire and heavens lores, stone crowmen who were pretty much ushabti morghasts, stone temple dogs and statue beasts that could swim through solid ground, harpoon spitting canons and elite human warriors. Cathay BTFO the beastmen and eventually dropped a comet of cassandora on them. Unfortunately the fan made rulebooks mentioned in >>48113508

It's all subjective and left that way on purpose.

Anything put out by GW/BL is open to take and leave as you please.

Old shit cranked out by an overworked writer who barely knows the setting isn't less meaningful than brand new shit cranked out by an overworked writer who barely knows the setting.

And that's what GW's put out and what the general consensus is.

The only time anyone has ever dissed old canon was a single GW writer trying to defend the End Times from haters; and this thread isn't for End Times discussion anway.

If it's been written down in a book published by GW then it's canon.

Looking to start up a vampire army, seen them played before a lot at my old club, mostly going to be playing local friends and stuff so not worried about all GW armies so a few questions

>who sells nice redesigns of vampire bloodlines?
I don't particularly want to go down the usual Von Carstein look, as its cool enough, but i really love the look, fluff and army composition of the necrarches, bu tracking down them old models on ebay or through facebook trade groups for less than a small fortune is going to be a problem, so if anyone knows any alternate sculpt companies that sell "not Necrarch" then that'd be sweet

>does mantic stuff look noticeably smaller/bigger compared to GW figures
Most of the mantic ranges look a average at best, but i feel the zombies, skellies and ghouls are nice enough to fill my ranks out with, but are they the same scale? As i was planning on mixing the official ones and the mantic ones (as pricey as they are, i love the GW skellies aesthetic) and painting them in the same drab sort of rusty and dark paint scheme so that even though the sculpt qualities with the murky paint scheme they aren't to distinct and they meld well enough together, but if the GW ones are head and shoulders taller than the mantics then they are going to look a little silly.

Reading through the 1d4 chan tactics page now, and read up on quite a bit of fluff, really exited for this force, last army i did was a huge beastman herd (pic related, heres the rest of the armies links http://z8.invisionfree.com/herdstone/index.php?showtopic=27232&hl= this army won UK student nationals best painted army in show in 2014) so i know i can paint a large force of hordes to a decent standard so the ranks of skellies don't bother me to much.

dude, after you fought them like over 9000 times, you will realized that all their army are the same.

-2 group of marauder axe thrower for flaking both side of your army (counter them with cheap arrow missile unit)
-2 poison hound for flanking both side of your army(they sucks at dealing with armor and have low hp, so send something like reiksguard or hammerers at them)

-get handgunner in a good hill position so you could hit the chaos warriors (if not, have the hand gunner target other large units like chaos spawn and giants)
-have Calvary flanking as usually (or target hell cannon)
-get demi gryphon knights

Dwarf
-get organ gun
-iron breakers, seriously, just spam iron breakers
-have thunderer copy empire's strategies from above
-slayers for big monster and scary cavalry unit that dwarf hates

Ork
-black orcs or big U'ns
-trolls and giant spider to fuck up the chaos warriors (make sure these 3 units fight together or their morale will dropped)
-rock lobbers

That reminds me of my Kholek Suneater "Monster Mash" army of spawns, Dragon Ogres, Shaggoths, a Giant, a gorebeast unit, and a unit of armored tolls supported by a small contingent of chosen/warriors and a pair of cannons encountered the Slayer king and nearly a full stack of slayers backed up by a garrison.

That was less than fun, got nearly wiped out the first time (Technically second time, the first time I deployed my chosen the wrong direction so they faced the garrison reinforcements and I had the monsters exposed to the swarm of slayers so i just restarted THAT particular misadventure.)

Eventually I just autoresolved because it didn't seem to calculate how perfectly tailored to fuck me that army was.

How does magic resistance work in WHFRP 2e? You can get talents and such that have descriptions like "+10% to Willpower tests to resist magic", but when do these tests ever present themselves?
>>
>>48141924
Spells such as Befuddle or Visions of Torment which can incapacitate your character grant these tests. Basically whenever the spell says something like "Target must take a Will Power test or be stunned for d10 rounds", then those talents would apply.

>>48138815
well Duh, they're just the same as medi 2's fucking mongols, just with more edgy aesthetic.

Andy Law, who was the official cartographer of WFRP2, said that the warhammer world is about 1,3 times larger than Earth. I tend to listen to this and merrily ignore this 7-10 times fantasy.

>>48142696
Based on the maps given a user on Warseer found that the Warhammer world is roughly twice the size of ours.

There's also a reason why the Empire is as fractious as it usually is. It's huge and each of the provinces is a kingdom in its own right. It's Germany, Austria, some of Poland and Hungary rolled into one. Same with Bretonnia. Both nations are basically all of Europe.
>>
>>48142763
Germanic countries are Empire,Slavic are Kislev,Brettonia is France+part of England.
Celtic version of Endland is Albion,Spain,Portugal and Italy are shared between Estalia and Tilea
>>
>>48143077
The Empire has more than a few non-Germanic names and titles. Namely a voivode of Sylvania, which is Slavic, that appears in the Black Plague series,
>>
>>48143077
Bretonia is France with Arthurian legend thrown in, but nothing Englishotherwise, or to be more accurate nothing English at all, considering he's king of the Britons and fights against the Saxons, and the idea of him being king of England is a common mistake.
Albion is Celtic Britain.
Estalia is Spain.
Tilea is Italy.
>>
>>48143136

Bretonnia is Norman England. The peasants are basically English, while the nobility are French.

From what I've seen it's mostly the really old stuff that makes everything huge and the populations ridiculous.

Florence and Lorenzo series flops between huge megacities being normal and small bands of 100-200 exploring.
>>
>>48142763

Looking at the Gazetteer of the Empire in Sigmar's Heirs, it's hard to imagine the Empire being insanely large when the population is so tiny, and there aren't even that many towns per county.

The issue is that every single source GW puts out sets the population different.

In some novels there are thousands of towns and villages a province that are teeming with life.

In others the entire Empire is basically populated by like 5 dogs and a blind homeless man.

GW writers have no sense of scale.

Because in some of these black library novels about Bretonnia she's an actual goddess that existed before the elves.

In WFRP2 sourcebook Knights of the Grail the Fay Enchantress is the chief of all the Grail Church, and it's clearly stated that she's an Elf. The Damsels are all girls gifted with magic, and they were abducted by the Fays (also Elves) and tought magic.
Finally, it's heavily implied that the Lady's "true nature" might have something to do with elves too, but nothing clear is stated about it.

My headcanon is that she's Isha, an aspect of Isha, or a sprout of Isha that gained sentience from all the Bretonnian prayers.

Crew's BS, they ignore soft/hard cover, misfire on natural 1, +1 to hit against large target, D3+1 wounds and D3+2 against units with fly, bouncing still exists but it's simplified. Indirectly related is that characters can't ever be targeted by templates or shooting in a unit of 5+ R&F models with the same troop type as the character, so no more sniping vampire lords for a lucky turn 1 victory.

One of the better changes of 9th IMO.

Megaminitatures used to do frog-men bundles in metal and they looked pretty nice.

The guy who wrote that book said that the numbers means heads of households, taxpayers and able bodied men capable of bearing arms. It doesn't include women, children, invalids and homeless. So multiply it by 4 or 5, just to be conservative about it, and you have a better population statistic. Also keep in mind that around the time the book takes place, 2523, the army hasn't been released yet so there are a lot of soldiers, functionaries and camp followers that haven't returned home yet.

>Did Isha exist before the elves?
>Because the Lady existed when Lizardmen were around the old world

I'm really curious about where you found that information, care to share? The more I learn the better.

I always thought that there are divine concepts that races flesh out, giving them an appearance they can understand and relate to. Thus the Earth Mother is Isha, the Old Faith, and Rhya. I also guess that these fleshing outs may or may not develop some sort of unique conscience, so Rhya becomes a little different/separate from Isha through the centuries, due to how the different races think them and relate to them.
That is to say, the Lady seems to be a very recent concept, necessarily subsequent to Isha, and mostly powered by Bretonnian prayers. I'm quite shocked about it being so ancient to share the same timespace with Lizardmen.

I also read fifteen years ago a non official file (but still written by Madalfred or some other author) for WFRP1 detailing the Earth Mother as the most powerful among all other gods, actually not born from Chaos but being there because it's directly linked to the Warhammer planet.

I didn't know about that, but hey, it does make sense.
Bretonnians settled on a land where High Elves left clear marks of their passage (the lighthouse of L'Anguille-Tor Alessi for one) and I guess it was more settled than the lands east of the Grey Mountains since it's less covered with forests. This means more HE ruins to explore and discover.
I guess some barbaric warrior did stumble on an ancient elven burial at some point.
