Griffith always gets posted in these threads eventually, but if you look at it from another perspective you could also argue that golden age Guts was the real That Guy of the campaign.

Giorno's payer isn't too bad, just new to roleplaying so he's kind of bland, and a little bit on the powergamey side.

The way I see it Saitama's player is a guy who has achieved a frankly worrying level of system mastery and made One Punch Man purely to see if he could.

What he'd intended as a thought experiment actually caught on with his friends because the table thought it was hilarious and what the DM had meant as a high action superhero campaign became an action comedy. Genos, the new player in the group, is actually learning a lot about roleplaying since his super serious kinda edgy cyborg character has to bounce off Saitama and becomes a more rounded person as a result.

Since the GM had to throw the final boss at the group a while ago just to have a fight that lasted more than one round, he's been focusing on social aspects a little more to try and home in on Saitama's poor social optimization, which Saitama's player is fine with.

On the subject of over-optimized anime protagonists, I'm pretty sure Bleach is a campaign run by a well-meaning but somewhat insane GM who can't balance homebrew content to save his life. Most of the players can't survive a single combat but one guy, through absurd abuse of the poorly thought out racial template system, is keeping up.

Look at the way the game starts, thought. A being created by the planet itself to wipe out all human life is the GMs idea of a starter encounter. Look at Saitama's behavior during the Fish King arc, where he spends a long time just fucking around only to swoop in when it's clear the monster is going to kill off Genos and Licenceless Rider. Or Boros, when he didn't interfere at all with the fight happening on the ground when he easily could have and then fought a guy that would have wiped the party. Let's not forget about the meteor.

Saitama is only using his absurd system mastery to counter a killer GM of the highest order, and let everybody else have an actual game.

How on Earth is Pandora's Actor a That Guy? Something I hate about Bleach is that broader, more useful powers tend to ALSO be way more powerful, instead of fitting into a 'weak but flexible' and 'strong but limited' dynamics. So Ishida's 'choose two targets and reverse recent changes to them' power is actually rather narrow and explicitly weaker than Jugram's 'negate any misfortune I'd suffer, or any fortune my enemies would gain, and turn it into misfortune for them instead, with misfortune including literally anything I don't like'.

The funny thing is that Jugram's power isn't even 'Balance', it's literally the opposite because it gives him all the 'fortune' and the enemy all the 'misfortune', instead of an equal amount of each. Sure, he could use it to penalize himself, but why would he ever do that? Compare it with Shunsui Kyoraku's Shikai that forces its benefits (and weaknesses) on both himself and his opponent.

Anyway, huge digression but I think it's a major reason why I stopped enjoying Bleach as much as I used to. I don't mind powers being awesome, but when they have no apparent drawbacks and are versatile as hell, it's too much.

I've seen some really awful hentai over the years. While certainly not a bad game, DOOM 3 is showing its age mechanically more so than ever. Joseph is a cheating bastard, yes. Jonathan Joestar should have a LOT farmed into being BEAST MODO, basically. That is his thing. That, and being surprisingly charismatic. He doesn't get killed by a ravening mob because he was able to instantly kill guys because of his Football Strength, but didn't. IIRC, UAC FUBAR'd because the CEO underestimated how far gone the lead scientist and her department/cult was gone. He was aware of the demonic sacrifices and the temple, to the point of actually leading an expedition to Hell to retrieve Doom Guy should things inevitably go wrong. When I heard that it was a Quincy arc, I thought of Uryu & what role he'll have. I thought this was his time to shine. Then Ichigo was revealed to be a Quincy & I was under the impression that if trees attacked, Ichigo would be revealed to be a tree & if an all women army were the bad guys then Ichigo's going to get a sex change. I wouldn't have been surprised if Uryu said "I'm joining the villains because it's the only way I can stand out & not be overshadowed by the protagonist". There is no Uryu arc, it's yet another Ichigo arc.
