The art is the only likeable thing about them. They are fucking assholes.

You can put low-cost mana siphoners on the field, place lands that give double-colorless, and have opponents exile cards every fucking turn.

>he isn't keeping up with the lore

>>
>>47935693
True, but Emrakul's really acting like one on Innistrad right now.
>>

Eldrazi may not be great but they're still better than Jace and his faggot friends.
>>

Kek.
>>
>>47935611
this mainly just messes with the turn order temporarily. Unless you've got some strat to get Haste on him, he's going to eat removal. He won't end the game himself.
>>47935625
this is pretty nasty, yeah, but you need some sick mana ramping to get him out. As a win condition, he'll lose every time in modern.
>>47935644
this isn't that great, especially for a mythic. I'd honestly rate a fair amount of the Theros gods above this guy just because they all have Indestructible and can shake soft removal with a bit of work.

You're playing casually with friends and losing horribly, so you've come here for justification that it's the cards fault and not you being bad.
Piss off. Take more removal.
>>
>>47935783
Ideally the the killing blow would wipe them both out, leaving an extremely confused Tamiyo behind to shrug and fuck off to some other plane and masturbate over their moon.
>>
>>47935801
>Unless you've got some strat to get Haste on him, he's going to eat removal.
If your opponent still has removal that can kill Emmy in their hand after you Mindslaver them, it's entirely your own fault.

There's always the chance for a topdeck an answer on their real turn, but that comes down to luck.

>Whenever Supplanter of Identity attacks you may exile another target non-token creature. If you do, Supplanter of Identity becomes a copy of that creature until the end of the turn. Return the exiled card to the battlefield under its owner's control at the begining of the next end step.
>>
>>47935849
That's a fair point. I feel like control still gets around that just by volume of removal that will run you out of mana before it's gone. Emmy will generally come in at what, 8-10 mana? Even if he clears what's in hand you may still have card draw left, plus whatever he couldn't throw away.

That's what I get for skipping this set, huh?
>>

>>
>>47936089
In tournaments, such as fnm, yes
>>
>>47936066
Yes. Exile is still a zone in the game, so you would have to pick something in your sideboard in a sanctioned event. If you play kitchen table however, that's a different story.
>>
>>47936099
Spawnsire, that's right.
>>
>>47936128
>If you play kitchen table however, that's a different story.

>>
>>47936053
>Use with this too.
>Use Coax with Supplanter

So, let me get this straight.
Your plan here is to exile an Eldrazi you already have on the battlefield using Supplanter, so that you can then tutor it into your hand with Coax instead of allowing it to return to the battlefield at the end of the turn. Is that what you're suggesting?
>>
>>47935801

>>
>>47936275
>>47936281
That is pretty goddamn stupid.

You realize you can get any Eldrazi you want with Coax, right? You know what that means? You can go get another, different Eldrazi. You don't have to eat your own card advantage, you can get an additional Eldrazi to cast.
>>
>>47936066
Read it again. "or in exile"
>>
>>47936617
This has already been addressed.
>>
>>47936580
When they're trying to get more Emmy on-cast triggers, they'll still lose card advantage if they grab another one. Legend rule is less of a thing than it was in the olden days, but it's still a thing.

>>47935693

>>47936669
It's only relevant if you need to cast it again in the same turn. Otherwise you're robbing yourself of a blocker during your opponent's turn. There might be a tiny little corner case where once in a blue moon it's a good idea to do this. Saying "Play these cards together specifically for this interaction" is idiocy beyond words.

the eldrazi are one of the worst things to hit magic, because they are boring.

The design decision to make them colorless creatures, but not artifact creatures was a mistake. It greatly hindered the ability to interact with them.

I've been playing magic since mirage, very few moments in time have as boring to play in as this current resurgence of eldrazi.

How pissed would Sarkhan be if the Eldrazi ate Tarkir?
>>
>>47941303
Well, first, I think it would be an interesting card.

Second, it's been confirmed that basically anything with sentience can become a planeswalker. With a spark comes not only the ability to planeswalk, but immense magical power. And we also do not know how exactly they plainswalk. Is it a conscious effort, or is it more subconscious?

Or, perhaps, it would be a drone or a spawn that somehow gain sentience. What would cause that to happen? How did it form its own mind? What will it do now that it has independence? Would this be the birth of a fourth titan?

Oh sure, that would be the obvious weakpoint. But you say that like it'd be easy. They'd have to be able to make their way to a civilization center through all the gods and enchantment bullshit to slaughter the inhabitants. They can't just sleeper agent it because the gods, or at the very least Kruphix, would know exactly which one it is.
They'd be fighting the one thing that can actually outproduce their war machine simply because it doesn't need raw materials while even phyrexia does.

Kruphix was pretty scared of the phyrexians, considering the fact he's the man of knowledge and probably wisdom, that fear should be taken seriously.

He didn't even need the satyrs. He had a bunch of Nyxborn, and sucked up their power in a ritual that involved Elspeth's victory party.
He became the god of revels because that's the power he sucked up, but he didn't need the satyrs or to be the best Reveler.

>>47942965
Sure, hence why the gods would listen when he says "Wipe this shit out before it gets a good foothold"
He's seen Elspeth's homeplane and Mirrodin after phyrexia pretty much won the war. He knows what Phyrexia looks like in full swing, so he'd encourage Heliod and friends to stomp phyrexia out before they get that full swing going.

They have to infiltrate first, then they can full swing.
They can full swing because they can reuse corpses and artifact materials like metal while their enemies run out of resources.
Theros Nyxborn don't have either of those problems, since they leave neither resources nor biomaterial
Plus they'd need to build a planar portal on Theros, assuming those still work, which Kruphix would immediately know about and tell Heliod to wipe it before it could be finished.
They might not ever get to the full force phase, and even if they did, their usual advantages don't work there.

>>
>>47935611
I used to think the Eldrazi were cool. Then they fucking threw up all over Zendikar and Innistrad and they fucking suck now

Same thing with Planeswalkers. I wish WotC knew that sometimes having things be uncommon and unique makes them cool. Making the lore the Jacestice league saves the day and making Eldrazi another lame ass boring tribe with shitty mechanics ruins both of those things
>>
>>47941474
Planewalkers don't gain immense magical power - not since the mending hit.
And drones and spawn aren't seperate entitites from the Eldrazi themselves. Every drone, every spawn, every eldrazi creature card in the Zendikar blocks was an organ or appendage of one of the three Eldrazi Titans - it's only with Shadows that Emrakul is doing something different, and even then it's still 'they're all Emrakul', it's just making other things Emrakul.
>>
How would you feel if Innistrad is destroyed by Emrakul, but the end result is the corruption of Innistrad results in a brand new Eldrazi Titan, born to 'replace' one of the Titans destroyed on Zendikar and bring the number back up to 3? You know, one of those 'horrifying, unpredictable side effects of trying to just kill them' things that Ugin was warning about.

Managing to ramp to 20 for spawnsire wasnt that hard, even in limited. Especially when you remember all the scion producers and spawnsire itself having a produce 2 scions for 4 ability, that only cost 2 lands if you played temples. I used to do this shit all the time, but my group made a rule I was only allowed a 25 card sideboard(I ran a 75 card deck) to use for spawnsire

One wants machines, the other wants lifeforms. Technically speaking they could become the craziest shit and team up to become the final biggest bad.

Otherwise, it depends on where Emerakul sits after this set. With all three titans I'd say Eldrazi for sure. Now it depends on Emeralul surviving and what she creates.

Realistically, Wizards already want phyrexians to be the big bad of magic. Their plot armor will protect them from everyone besides karn and Jace.

I like the Eldrazi as these unstoppable forces of nature that tie into the very fabric of the universe and can only be sealed away.

But that was all ruined by the resolution of Oath. Killing two of them at once with some fucking fire, are you serious? And we're supposed to be okay with it because "oh, well, it's not that the oldwalkers couldn't kill them, it's that they never tried : )". Really? So at any fucking point, like, ONE oldwalker could have just stopped them easily? Do you not realize how that completely destroys the lovecraftian unknowable force appeal?

Wizards's new focus on story successfully made me hate characters I already liked. They were so convinced that they had to start the Gatewatch with a total victory that they just threw out all sense. The Gatewatch should have MAYBE done enough damage to drive the titans off the plane to look for an easier meal, or maybe sealed them away again, or fucking anything besides four lowl level planeswalkers killing the fucking STRONGEST BEINGS IN THE UNIVERSE WITH SOME FUCKING FIRE GOD FUCKING SHITEATING CHRIST WIZARDS YOU FUCKING IDIOTS

So yeah I'm not big on the Eldrazi either, even though I used to be.
>>
>>47960414
There'll be more threats from the Blind Eternities. These titans might just be a taste of that and destroying them could spell unnatural disaster.
>>
>>47960414
And yet, the thing is that two oldwalkers DID try.
We're supposed to be okay with it because the heroes don't lose when they first team up, and people aren't supposed to root for the world-ending abominations.

They aren't really doing anything to be evil. They're doing it because its what they are. Which quibbling aside, can very much be considered evil. Not much has really changed about them since their first appearance.

Also, I hope the real translation of the card name is better. "Cathar Heretic" or "Heretical Cathar" sound much better.
>>
>>47960688
They Eldrazi do what they do because it is their nature. It's repeatedly pointed out that they consume and destroy without any form of recognition of their foes. To them we are nothing.

Hell, even Emerakul reflects this. She isn't corrupting to win a fight, it is mearly her nature to make all into her. I wouldn't be surprised if she is the source of other Eldrazi and makes a new titan.
>>
>>47960688
only because you forgot what phyrexians are.

There were created by a man. A madman, but a man with intent and plans. Those that followed, for all their madness, were intelligent with plans and wills and ambitions. They infiltrated, they researched, they schemed, they bickered and betrayed.

The eldrazi just act. There is no politics, no schemes, no dogma. When those appear present, it's only mortals creating those things to try and understand the eldrazi.

Phyrexia was the work of some ancient, as of yet unspecified, planeswalker.

>>
>>47961076
It was kind of strange to me that Emrakul's new followers on Innistrad somehow instantly identified her as a female entity. But I saw a theory that, in the same way Ulamog is compelled to feed and Kozilek is compelled to warp reality, Emrakul is compelled to create offspring by warping life into Eldrazi. Her followers, who are becoming connected to her, may sense that driving force and interpret it as her desire to be a mother. Mother = female

That's a cool idea to me.
>>
>>47961766
I think they're not so much identifying her as female as they are using the terms that their tiny minds understand. Was it you who had the theory that Ulamog and Kozilek might have been things warped by Emrakul into Titans?

Also, there probably isn't a real reason. I mean, it's not like these things should be speaking English in the first place. You just gotta accept things like that.
>>
>>47961824
No, that wasn't me.

I just like the idea that there's a reason different cultures have identified Emrakul as a female god. I mean in actuality it's a Space Thing that's so beyond the concept of gender or sex that it's silly to give it one, but the people corrupted by Emrakul and interpreting her alien intentions as a mother rebirthing them into her beautiful children would be a pretty cool explanation.

Eldrazi without.

The whole thing from fucking zendikar about how their fancy gods were ACTUALLY THE ELDRAZI AND THATS WHY THE NAMES ARE SO SIMILAR was fucking ridiculous too, because they're fucking eldrazi they don't have fucking names.
If you give them names, you wouldn't say "oh, this one is exactly like our god Cosi. I guess we'll name them Kozilek." Where the fuck did that come from?
>>

the place was already there. The goal and thoughts were Yawgmoth's.

I'm actually curious as to the answer here. That doesn't make a goddamn lick of sense.
>>
>>47965087
the name Kozilek came before Cosi.

Now where Kozilek came from is more of a question. But Eldritch Moon suggests that at least Emrakul shoves the name directly into your brain.
>>
>>47965087
Emrakul at least self references herself as Emrakul. At least according to when Jace read her mind. In Nahiri's story during Return to Zendikar it showed Ulamog corrupting the vampires to try and get them to release him. I imagine interactions like those put the Eldrazi into the zeitgeist of Zendikar and become their gods.
>>
>>47963045
I actually thing this is the sort of deal Ugin was implying with the whole "don't kill the Titans" thing. That or that killing a titan makes the remaining ones more powerful.

It's true, but some of them are clearly names people have given to them by human cultures (like Azathoth or Shub-Niggurath or Dagon) or weren't really meant for human mouths (like Cthulhu). Alternatively, the entities have reasonably scrutiable, human motivations (Khorne, Slaanesh, etc.) and it's reasonable to assume they'd also have names.

But the Eldrazi... their names are /convenient/.

I have a feeling the death of all the eldrazi could result in something like reversing the mending or at least releasing some of the power the mending took away, I think this is why Nicol bolas wanted them released and why he killed ugin in the original tarkir timeline so he wouldn't stop the other walkers from killing them or at least warning them their would be consequences.

It makes sense since Nicol bolas is heavily involved in all of this atleast in the beginning and his main goal so far in the story has been to get back what he lost during the mending.
>>
>>47965979
I would love to read a story about Jim the eldritch horror.
>>
>>47966031
I don't remember what it was, but I could have sworn I read something that Bolas saw what he'd released with the eldrazi and kinda felt like he fucked up.

I'd love Bolas and Ob Nix to find each other and create their own solutions to the eldrazi. Like using an entire plane as a bomb.
>>
>>47966101
I don't think that happened, bolas isn't the type to regret his decisions like that either way.

I think his involvement with the phyrexians(sending tezzeret to take over) on Mirrodin gives credence to some extent to my idea as well as it's well known the phyrexians built planar portals in the past and that they may be able to interact with the blind eternity's to an extent, some of that tech could help bolas reverse some of the effects of the mending some how maybe.

Ob doesn't seem to give a shit about the eldrazi in any way really. His whole ideology is just to fuck shit up and make war from what his lore tells us.

Hearthstone did Old Gods because WoW had already done that.

>>
>>47969917
Why is Bloodborne the game everyone always mentions as if it started the Lovecraft references in games trend? Amnesia had it, Alone in the Dark had it, Skyrim had it, X-COM had it, fucking Black Ops 3 had it. Lovecraft is just somewhat popular, that's it. The only strange coincidences here are Hearthstone and Magic doing it at the same time.
>>

It's more of a coincidence that Bloodborne and Innistrad are doing it in the same *way*.

Weird Fiction is super stale. It was played out and cliche back in the 1940's. The whole genre's appeal to casuals is the same appeal Dragon Ball Z has: power levels. You take away power levels and they're giant boring animals.

Why do you think people are so pissed they got punked by the Super Friends?
>>
>>47955380
>Culling force for the planes

Ah, the Galactus argument. Never really bought it. It's totally possible to have an ecology without an apex predator. Natural competition for resources ensures that creatures kill each other to prevent the ecosystem from collapsing.
>>
>>47971906
>Why do you think people are so pissed they got punked by the Super Friends?
Because people are stupid and /tg/ loves to complain without actually understanding things?

You people act like there was no lead up or effort involved.

>>47971940
I think it's more of a Langoliers thing. Although Galactus isn't supposed to be a natural part of the system, is he? I got the impression that he was just a big evil planet eating baddy, not some kind of lawn trimmer.
