I just got like 50 cultists from a friend, all without bases. I really need to base them as soon as possible, because my local FLGS is having a tournie on june 24th, im running Typhus plague zombies. What do I do? The nearest time on ebay for that many bases is 25th.

1) it has the advantage of being a fuckhuge franchise that has lasted for almost 30 years so it has nearly neverending content in which to immerse yourself for people who like in-depth experiences
2) creative expression, it allows you to build, sculpt and paint miniature works of art to share with other people in a wider well-developed community
3) wargames or at least 40k is sort of the happy medium between card games and role playing games for me. it's card game-like in the sense that your "deck" is your list and it has a strict set of rules to adhere to, but is more open ended and designed around actual scenarios to act out like in RPGs. add to that narrative campaigns, different types of missions, or just bullshitting with your m8s to see what happens

hobby store or hardware store. 1" discs.
Prime black lower body, prime white/gray upper body. basecoat guns, skin, cloth, boots, etc. Wash with appropriate shades.

6 total hours for 50 cultists, tops.
>>
>>47841751
The OP image has been shit since someone put together that collage rather than using some 40k artwork like the WHFB, AoS, Malifaux, Infinity and many other threads do with their own relevant artwork. Where were you to complain about it then? Because it's certainly too late to do so now.
>>
>>47841699
>who the fuck cares

>>47841694
>If you give a shit about the OP image you're part of the problem.

I guess I'm just a dull and joyless 'spurger but I believe in at least a minimum standard, that a shitty meme image attracts shitty memeflies.
>>
>>47841759
Its not painting im worried about; he himself actually debased the buggers, and used them for his AoS army. He stopped playing CSM, and gifted me most of his army. Its just that the only thing lacking bases are the cultists.
>>

Charging is now done during the movement phase. You charge D6", in addition to your normal 6" movement. Pretend units that have special movement rules are changed to fit into this somehow (ex: assault marines can reroll the 6" charge, or can move 12" if they don't charge, or something I don't care).

Y/N?
>>
>>47841914
That's... disappointing. I mean, I also remember seeing a Mordian Iron Guard in one of the old core books I have but I'm going to guess they went the way of the dinosaurs as well/aren't FW.

>>47841950

>>
>>47841647
I like tabletop wargames, and there aren't that many to choose from.

I also like good looking plastic models, high levels of army customizability, having an active player base, sci-fi, and various other things that eliminate everything but 40k.

I enjoy the fluff and spin-off vidya, but that stuff mostly is just a factor of popularity and not innately good because it's 40k.

>>47841983
Admech, because you know why.
>>
>>47841914
FW is proper GW, and the FW-exclusive armies are actually shit, except for a single Renegades and Heretics cheese list.
>>
>>47841950
So you want to nerf assault units further? You done fucked up son. If you said 2D6", then sure, but then you would run into the problem of not being able to use assault weapons, which could be worked out, but ehh.
>>
>>47841950
Another fantasy rule.

Sure.

once again proving a superior game system can't do shit in a game about fanciest toy soldiers.
>>
>>47841647
1) The sheer size and scale of the setting is astounding, and the imperium is an interesting study in humanities darker aspects.
2) It explores themes such as the dark ages mythos, (such as the knights templar and teutonic traditions) catholic symbolism and superstition, and russian christian orthodoxy in an ironic fashion.
3) I love gothic and boroque architechture and themes, and the artwork is often wrought with such care and detail that is sometimes jaw dropping.

the original picture is cultist chan (https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Cultist-chan) getting her foot licked by a guardsman because "eet ezz the will of the dark gawds". he's licking a chicken because a previous thread had the original image and people said the shitposting was so deep that next time he'll be licking a chicken. the chicken is from the russian proofs meme, which is an ancient meme from krautchan's /int/ board that came about due to russians' comical levels of denial. russians are famous on kc for demanding absurd standards of evidence, any negative statement about russia is met with WHERE ARE THE SOURCES? THIS LINK IS PROPAGANDA, I DON'T SEE ANY GOOD PROOF. /tg/ somehow finally got ahold of this meme last year or so and thinks it's fresh OC. I hope that answers all of your questions.

>How old is the oldest space marine?
Bjorn is 10,000 years old and currently the oldest marine alive. If Ahzek or Khârn weren't living in the Eye they would be holders of "Oldest Spess Marheen". As for the High Lords they can be pretty old. The Fabricator General can be even older thanks to this one Dreadnought-like life extender, but the thing is a Fabricator General will go mad because of it.
>>
>>47842161
SW have a 10k year old Dread. I think Commander Dante of the Blood Angels might be the oldest living space marine. His age isn´t really clear but he seems to be 2k+ years old.

I like Eldar for lore(like the spirit stone thing and using their dead warrior) and for being fast.
I like Dark Eldar too because I think their masked models looks nice but on the other hand their models without face cover looks like shit imo. Also fast.
IG seems appealing because they are just regular guys fighting against superhumans/demons/space commies/ayyliens and they are still able hold their ground but I dont like how they are using Russian ww2 tactics.

Not really fan of space marines/CSM/Sisters

fuck this is hard

I wish there were some regular tacticool humans that would win through tactic and equipment and not numbers

you can play astra militarum without having hordes of infantry. you could field lots of tanks and veterans in chimeras. also there is a supplement faction which is essentially special forces of the astra militarum called militarum tempestus. The irony of the guard is that the dogma of the imperium has left the empire with a near infinite supply of manpower but little else to spare.

Things break down and they are stuck using the most basic and archaic technology and templates because that is the only kind of infrastructure the imperium will allow for that they can actually maintain.

You were misguided, then. Humanity's golden age was long before the rise of the Emperor.

The Dark Age of Tech was humanity's peak, and lasted a good long time before robots started killing everyone. After that was the Age of Strife, and it was shit. Then it ended, and the Emperor showed up, and spent a few hundred years crusading to unite humanity again, then the Heresy happen.

The Heresy didn't end humanity's golden age, it ended the Emperor's 200 year crusade to piece back together humanity's shattered pieces.

The 40k universe goes to great lengths to explain to you that without the soulcrushing, despotic imperium constantly churning out war and stomping out rebellion the human race is doomed. The rotting, autocratic Imperium and the practical enslavement of its citizens is in response to the incalculable needs to fight endless wars on all front eternally. The Imperium is bad, but it's bad because it HAS to be, otherwise it and mankind are both extinct.

That's categorically incorrect. None of the Chaos Gods want to destroy all life.

Without life there can be no plotting. Tzeentch is against that.

Without life there can be no death. Nurgle is against that

Without life there can be no excess. Slaanesh is against that.

Humanity are the primary food source of the Chaos Gods. There's no way they'll get them go extinct. At least not without a replacement.

Your headcanon does not apply here. It's stated that Chaos winning will annihilate all life in the galaxy, the only thing preventing that from happening in the Emperor who is holding back Chaos from hijacking the psychic evolution of mankind and causing a warpocalypse.

You seem to think that the Chaos Gods really care about this galaxy. They don't. It's one part of a much larger universe. The destruction of one galaxy would not affect them at all.

The term "End Times" is found everywhere in 6th ED and 7th ED sources, 40K is heading towards its End Times event provided that the setting advances. It will result in pretty much the same thing that happened in fantasy which is pretty much the Orderfags getting BTFO.

>>47843028
The Imperium is evil and that world that cured plagues is especially evil.

One of Nurgle's main missions in his existence is to create life. When that world cured all diseases they killed off countless species of organisms and halted their evolutionary process. This is what pissed off Nurgle. That senseless genocide.

>Why would idiotic, ominicidal gods of chaos care about one little Galaxy?

Because it's the only one they're allowed? The Gods don't reach other galaxies. They're localised.
>>
>>47843028
No one is purely evil in the 40k universe, well except for maybe the Dark Eldar. Everyone else is working off their natural prerogative.

The Imperium is in a rut because the only person with the mental capacity to fix it is currently using his giant golden ass to plug a hole in reality to prevent another Eye or Terror from opening on Terra.
>>
I mean this is just a segment of the population who are barely capable of preschool level sarcasm, much less understanding sophisticated satire.

And fucking 40k is basically trying to do everything it can do to let them in on the gag, with things like fucking orks and the double headed nazi eagle pin on their logos, and they still just don't fucking get it!

I mean this isn't the Divine comedy, its not Dante' trying to write a satire without being nailed to a fucking cross, its fucking obvious to anyone with half a god damn brain what they are trying to do.

It just sort seeps into there brain, eroding at the foundations of what they believe, ticking away, until one day they just fucking EXPLODE and table flip or go nutz in some rules argument.

Its like they know, but they don't know they know.
>>
>>47843069
>End Times was a special exception

No, it isn't, numbnuts.

The whole Chaos Gods wanting to destroy the galaxy and everything in it has been stated numerous times since 4th ED.

This is a point of contusion in Abaddon's relationship with the Chaos Gods. He wants to preserve humanity and the galaxy while the Chaos God want to destroy them both.
>>
>>47842911
Nice try but I dont think you would find nation that hates Russians more than us
>>
>>47842990
>>47843054
both incorrect

the chaos gods work to destroy everything because chaos is their nature, they would kill the very thing that sustains their existence because that's just the inevitable end of things, they actively seek to cause destruction even when it's suicidal. in theory ending all life would end them, they know this and don't give a fuck. in fact it's mentioned that this has happened several times with several cycles of chaos gods already and pappa nurgle knows this, being the god of death, and sees it his duty to see the cycle through.

The guardsman yells, "wtf is this shit? Where's the drinks? And where's my shot!?

the more famous two headed eagle is the holy roman empire's and I'm prettay, prettaaaaay sure this is where the idea comes from in 40k and much speculative fiction that uses similar iconography

I'm guessing that russian standard is based on HRE as well
>>
>>47844037
They're both based on the Roman Empire.
>>
>>47843386

Well it had me confused as I believe I saw it on the side of a Tiger Tank wreck in a documentary once.

I was wondering what Russian iconography was doing on a German machine and figured it was to show cohesion with the anti-communist Cossack elements that sided with the Germans during Barbarossa.

Oh, right, the Holy Roman one, too. Still no nazis in sight, though.
Also, Byzantines. Particularly the Palaiologos dynasty.

Maybe the double-headed eagle is a symbol of central emperor-figure head instead of fascism?

I much prefer this rendition.
And the Palaiologos dynasty coat of arms was also based on Roman heradly, which is to be expected, given that they were, I think, the last rulers of the Roman Empire.
People who think two-headed eagles are fascist heraldry are fucking retards.

Well the Tsars and Imperial Family in Russia did claim lineage to the Byzantine ruling dynasty, a claim that brought them into contention with Turkey who was said to have made the same claim.

>>
>>47844199
>Well the Tsars and Imperial Family in Russia did claim lineage to the Byzantine ruling dynasty
They had lineage to the Byzantine ruling dynasty. Some Rurikid married an Imperial princess.
What did bring tension with Turkey was that they both claimed to be the successor to the Byzantine, and by extension, the Roman Empire.
Russia claimed that Moscow was "The Third Rome", seeing how it became the religious center of Orthodox Christendom after the fall of Constantinoupolis in 1453, which was the "Second Rome", because it was the city from which the Eastern Roman Empire was ruled after the west had fallen centuries before, and was previously the center of all Orthodox, and, prior to the Great Schism, center of ALL Christendom.
The Turks saw themselves as a continuation of Rome because they had conquered the last remnants of Rome.
When the Seljuks conquered Anatolia from the Byzantines, they established a Sultanate and mockingly called it "Rûm", which is how they spelled Rome.
These tensions, especially about what is the de jure capital of the Orthodox faith, would continue until modernity, and would cease officially only a couple decades prior to World War I, if I remember correctly.

It's because they don't want to lose, as most people bringing Forge World are typically bringing better alternatives to the Codex units. This is especially true for Chaos players, who actually have some awesome FW units, yet many people refuse to play them out of knee-jerk hate.

Also, older people don't look things up on the internet to know what GW has ruled. They only know what comes in the rulebook and what's explicitly in the codices, and that's it.

Finished 3-0 at a 1500 ITC tournament today with a Warpflame Host based daemon list. First time using the new detachment. +1 Strength on the Tzeentch shooting attacks was nifty, especially against Skitarii to cause ID all over the place. Exalted Flamer had all the mobility issues that I was expecting, and I might look into replacing him with more Horrors. Flamers did pretty good, mauling light infantry and acting as fast objective grabbers. Furies might have been the surprise MVP, generally earning a lot more than their measly 35 points in value. Not really sure if I prefer a Lord of Change or a Daemon Prince. The base T6 is a great benefit, but the lack of Telepathy or Biomancy hurts a lot. I couldn't really decide on what I wanted the LoC to do with his powers. Malific just seemed boring, Divination was unlikely to really help him in melee where I wanted him, and Tzeentch just seemed like a waste given that he doesn't get any of the strength modifiers like the Herald and Horrors.

Give LoC paradox and it infinitely boosts his psychic utility when rolling on change or malefic.

Exalted flamers are best as back-field weapons platforms guarding horror units from assault or destroying forward armor, and furies are actually great units for their cost, especially now that they let you turn any infantry formation into a detachment.
>>
>>47845986
We're in agreement, although what >>47846137 says I think is partly true as well, GW definitely took queues from British culture at the time and threw them at the orks to see what stuck. I like to think goffs especially are a jokey mix of the rise of racist skinhead culture and the new romantics fascination with nazism. The idea of gloomy characters in drab colours goosewalking about with jackboots on is pretty funny.

All princes are still good in assault. The Wulfen relics make Khorne DPs some of the baddest motherfuckers in the game. Slaanesh princes can now take soulstealer and be invincible. Staff of change/warp mutation blade are still worthwhile as well.
>>
>>47847098

I don't play 30k, so that makes sense
>>
>>47847042
I think you should look into khorne daemons so you can use the khorne daemonkin book and encompass all forms of getting skulls and blood.

The start collecting khorne box, although for AoS on GWs website, can be used for 40k without any conversion work or whatever, they're the same daemon units in each game. That's what I'd suggest you get next.
>>
>>47847109
yeah but . . . how do you get them into combat without dying? they can't assault the same turn they switch from swooping to gliding, which means you either switch and just sit there for a turn to get shot the hell up, or start out on the board and get shot the hell up turn 1

some people say the nurgle DP can sorta do the latter but I'm still imagining it's not turbo hard for some armies to get around 2+ cover with sheer volume of dice. same with tzeentch prince which pretty much has 2+/4++ in power armor
>>
>>47847239
Use terrain.
>>
>>47847259
terrain isn't going to give you anything better than a tzeentch prince's pseudo 4++ and I'm still not confident a 4W T5 prince will last against a determine opponent decent long range shooting but eeeeeeehhhhhhhh I want to try anyway
>>
>>47847239
You can switch next to units that are in assault, in terrain, out of sight, etc. Or you just grimoire/cursed earth/impossible robe/nurgle jink save/armor of scorn/invisibility/iron arm/any of the other million ways to can make princes near impossible to kill. You can start some on the table gliding and just mobile death fortress it if you run a tetrad.
>>
>>47847315
I should mention I was thinking more of the vanilla CSM prince, I know daemons princes are still legit
>>
>>47847310
It's less about getting a save and more about avoiding shots entirely by blocking LoS.
>>
>>47847204
I considered that, but I'm trying not to get too many units as once since my friends are buying small armies too. Any particularly fun single units that may be a good buy?

I was thinking of getting a Bloodcrusher or two because I like the model but have no idea how it ends up in play.
>>
>>47844733
Nobody will ever comment on your army lists as long as they are presented this awfully.
>>
>>47846519
I stuck Paradox on the Herald and the Impossible Robe on the Lord of Change. 3++ is just disgusting, and the Fateweaver reroll makes the threat of a failed leadership check a lot less threatening. I guess I could try the Grimoire on the Herald and Paradox on the LoC and just have the Lord of Change fly around the table summoning daemons with Paradox.

>>47846734
For Tzeentch, the Impossible Robe adds a lot of durability, and the Lesser Reward staff boosting you to S8 for 10 points is nuts. Especially if you can get Enfeeble and/or Iron Arm to pick on other monsters.
>>
>>47847373
Seems pretty hard to do since newer codexes can field enough shit to fill up their entire side of the table and see everywhere.

I've noticed this is a problem with infiltrators too. Nowadays infiltrating basically doesn't work to the full effect because there's almost nowhere to hide your dudes out of sight 12" away from the enemy unless it's some single model or a couple of dudes. 90% of the time I end up going with an 18" infiltrate in sight of enemy units. I took Huron Blackheart with the idea of infiltrating marine units in theory but in practice it's impossible to pull off a 12" infiltrate so there's pretty much no reason to take Huron now.

That's fair man, it's just that box is a really good deal especially if you get it from a third party stockist as they knock another tenner off the price. Like your bloodcrushers there are great fun units, but buying a box of 3 is around £28, while the box with the skull cannon and bloodletters is £40.

If you have to get one unit I'd say either a skull cannon or defiler will be right up your alley, they give you fire support and can help your other units get into close combat as well.
