In a future of bio-engineering, what artificial organs might be created for humans, and what purpose would they serve?

Is there any reasonable benefit to having tails?
>>
>>47800954

Because that's just simply too much.

Either you go for the length and girth of the horse dick, or you aim for a fat tapered one that gets even fatter when you plug the woman up with your bulbous knot. Both of them have completely different functions that interfere with the other when used in tandem.

Horse dicks are all about getting the man off as fast as possible, knots are for her pleasure.

Personally, I think the barbed penis doesn't get enough love among the exotic dick accessories one could be offered in the musky darkness of the 22nd century. Those things aren't exactly sharp, you know! You cum in the vag (or butt, I won't judge) and the things just sort of pop out, it's like a knotting dick with a focus on blunt tingly points throughout the orifice rather than a thick wad of meat at the entrance.

Of course, one dick is good but two dicks is better, so I can see the hemipenis getting some loving. Ever want to double-stuff your lover without Chad or Tyrone? Now's your chance.

Let's think about this for a moment, shall we?

What is the best dick for a human man, and the best vagina for a human woman, provided they're able to swap them out for all sorts of animal equivalents? The horse dick is popular for sheer size and virility, but surely it can't be the best choice? What about vaginas? Would the dolphin pussy *really* be that much better for *her?*

As for organs, I envisioned more discussion of internal organs rather than sexual organs, but I am fine with either discussion! As for sexual reproduction, I could imagine there could be possible new reproductive organs being created, far from the norm.

Quads have them for 'fine-tuning' their center of balance.

Roos are bipedal and have large tails, though they're unique as far as they go.

A way to deactivate senses on purpose and a way to temporarily enhance the senses.
You want to hear what happens on the other street? You can.
Someone is being cheeky, blowing a dog whistle? Nope, back to human levels

A "data port" that allows you to connect yourself to a computer. Self explanatory, heck, the organ might not even be where you connect, but it can host the plug without giving you septicemia

Some way to override involuntary reflexes and reactions. As in, some way to tell your body "Nah, this cold is not worth having our whole supply of water going through our nose as mucus. Trust me on this." or "S'okay internal ear, we are in space, let me handle this"

A small patch of electricity-generating cells, to keep small devices powered. You could even plant 2 near the tear ducts to power some fancy HUD contact lenses.

Skin cells that can change (albeit in a very limited way) color would be all the rage with teens in a cyberpunk setting. I am thinking of cuttlefish-like color and pattern change, depending on where you graft the skin. Bioluminicense would also catch on pretty quickly.

Eye color change goes without saying.

Voice modulation muscles that controls your larynx to generate the tone and timber you want. With practice, that's it.

A vagina-like aperture where any liquid you put in will be absorbed as quickly as if you had injected it in the bloodstream would be readily used in medicine but also abused for drugs, i guess.

A stem cell repository within your own body, probably implanted at birth and made from your umbilical cord.

Self-cleaning and self-lubricating assholes.
Because.
>>

I've always been fond of the idea of secondary processors. Not additional brains, exactly, more like biocomputers. Protein or DNA-based computing devices embedded in their own organs, able to be accessed to increase computational power for specific tasks where mathematical modeling would help.

Check out GURPS Biopunk. I don't even play the system but it has a lot of ideas for enhanced organs and such. Also how biotech changes culture and criminal activities. Club Kitsune has hostesses with fluffy tails, while some mobster is out there replacing snitches larynxes with those of songbirds.

If you are to the point where rewriting the human genome for shits is not just possible, but easy, this is only as much of a problem as you let it be.
>>
>>47800891
Probably something that can force extraneous fat out of the system as an anti-obesity organ. Presumably with a conscious control mechanism to prevent mountain climbers or other cold climate folks dying in the winter,
>>
>>47801079
>>47801035
Well, just like Darwin's tubercle (the thick top-rear part of your ear), humans do have a vestigial coccyx, which, during stage 14-22 (between bilaminar embryonic disk formation and the through early neurulation) shows up as a fairly prominent tail, which later drops off. Rarely, you do have babies that are born with the tail.

Now, tails often have many uses, even if they're not prehensile. Notably they're useful for balance and assisting mobility, but the dual factors of a more upright walking posture as well as changing environment where the homo genus evolved in from (probably) wetter forests to a more-Savannah-like plains which requires less need for said balance were probably fairly strong selectors.
>>
>>47800891
After better versions of our existing organs, Wi-Fi.Or a supplemental brain to handle cybernetic implants in a body. You won't have only bioengineering or only cybernetics, both will be used.

Depending on how far you want to go, you can have nanomachines that repair damages or outright rebuilt unused material into something more appropiate for the situation. Or people send their minds through the net into other bodies which reform to their appearance.

But back to organs:
>Some filter chamber that removes toxic gasses before the lungs
>A "battery" that stores excessive energy for release when body temperature drops
>Ports for stomach and bloodstream so that you can flush out your food and stuff
>Electrical plug to charge any cybernetic implants. Maybe a complete revamp of the human energy system if you want to go wild
>>
>>47801821
Then it would be my magical realm
>>
Realistically probably a backup pancreas.
>>
>>47801960
Precisely, dear anon.
>>
>>47801955
What about an internal oxygen tank that siphons off a little oxygen at a time from your blood during periods of rest and then releases it in times of need (holding breath, sprinting, asthma attack).
>>
Livers that can synthetize vitamins C and D.

Cuttlefish skin.

Tapetum lucidum (that layer of shiny stuff behind the eyes of cats that gives them better night vision)

Secondary slightly translucent eyelids like those of a crocodile. We still have the withered remains of one in the corner of our eyes so its not that big of a leap.

Ability to close nostrils and ears.

Neural shunts to cut of physical sensation in case of accidents.

Octopus style micro-brains to regulate body automatic processes to free up the main brain for less dull stuff.

A selection of smaller hearts situated along the main arteries rather than just one big heart.

One big lung that can compartmentalize in the event of damage rather than just two lungs.

Wider visual spectrum. Some animals cans see into the infra red, chickens can see ultraviolet and mantis shrimps can do both and I want to know what they see when they look at a rainbow.

The ability to regrow lost teeth.

Possibly we could form a symbiotic relationship with bioluminescent bacteria and cultivate it in the skin and have glow in the dark freckles. For using enhanced eyeballs to see in otherwise total darkness also for looking fucking awesome.

There is a sea slug that eats plants and then absorbs the chloroplasts into its own skin and it can then photosynthesize. Be great if we could do that.

There is also a type of frog over in the Americas that can survive being frozen and thawed out over winter. I don't know what sort of rebuilding would be needed for that but holy fuck it would be useful in times of famine if huge segments of the population could enter suspended animation until times of plenty. Also maybe applicable for space travel one day.
>>
>>47801419
Roos use them as a third leg to stabilize their walking because of how their locomotion works their legs don't work independently so good.

Humans don't need them because we have massive glutes to maintain balance and because we actually walk erect (unique to bipeds our spines are completely vertical).

We suck for speed but evolved to be the best distance runners on the planet because of how efficiently we use energy to move (up to 30% less for equal distances). Which is how early man will literally walk it's prey to exhaustion/death. A tail will just fuck with that.
>>
>>47802129

See, I'm really liking all the ideas this anon is presenting.

Why?

Because they're alterations to the human body that won't tax the cardiovascular system. The problem with adding new organs is you need to get blood and nutrients to them, which means new arteries and veins and more blood and heart-work to keep them fed.

Stuff like a simple flap to close your nostrils or shined eyes doesn't require jack, they're nothing to the body because they're simple additions to an already existing organ.

Ability to sythesise drugs and possibly hormones on demand might be nice.

As well as getting high you could also reduce the effects of any diseases that the advances in medical science haven't been able to deal with.
And dumping a huge load of aspirin and caffeine to sober up asap would be neat

Regeneration might be a bit more out there, but there's animals that can do it so it may be crackable

Improved nerve response and maybe rapid coagulation could be useful for combat

Ahh yes, Alaskan wood frogs.

The problem with blood more prone to gum up quicker is that it might also be more prone to giving you blood clots.

Wasn't there a story floating around last year about a man regrowing a finger? Or was this another hoax?
>>
>>47802147
That's a good point.
Though you could probably swap out the pancreas for an actual useful organ or gland without too much extra strain, and removing the damn thing even with nothing to replace it is a good move

>Livers that can synthetize vitamins C and D.
So we'd become true carnivore?

>symbiotic relationship with bioluminescent bacteria
Anon, we can already implant bioluminicent bacteria DNA on animals to make them shine. Other than that, a skin graft would do.

>Americas that can survive being frozen and thawed out over winter.
Let's downplay this one, having the abilities of this frog makes it easier for us to survive extremely cold enviroments, we can still die from hypothermia, tho.
On the other hand it makes it easier for cryogenics to work on us correctly

>chloroplasts into its own skin and it can then photosynthesize
Eeeeeh, don't count on that. To keep those cells alive you would probably use more energy than what you'd get from them. Slugs and plants get away with it because they are relatively low-maintenance compared to more complex organisms. We wouldn't get any benefit from it.

Throwaway blood filters, small bladders that are implanted in areas that surgeons can access easily. When the body detects a harmful substance has entered the bloodstream (Say, poison) then it redirects as much of its bloodflow as it can towards the filter. You can now safely get to a hospital if your kid drank a bottle of antifreeze.

Rabbit is the opposite design: Large anaerobic muscles, low body fat, quick twitch response, broad locomotive movements, fast heart rate.

Quick as fuck, but once the explosive energy wears off, they are basically nearly going into cardiac arrest, their muscles are swimming in lactic acid and they have no more energy reserves to draw on.

The idea is that you dust your pursuer and find a suitable place to hide. Problems occur when they are able to track you /dig you up.

3 things humans are actually good at that we take for granted.

1) endurance (ever wonder why your cat sleeps all day/?)
2) eye sight (Human vision is actually amazing for mammals and we have cones to detect lower wavelengths like red)
3) sweat (double edged sword, we need more water but can remain active in temperatures that would literally boil the brains of other animals- ever wonder why your dog looks like he's dying on a summer day?)

I think that a metal frame with a feathery coating could work well.

Unfortunately, to actually fly with it, they're need to be absolutely massive, or have some kind of external propulsion.

I guess the best bet is to have wings with two modes. One that's fully prehensile with a feathery coating when on the ground, for aesthetics, and another which is stiffened with a jet or something, for flying.

Landing would be a bitch, though.

not necessarily. provided the fluffy wings were stable enough, you could use them as sort of a (one of those parachute things they put behind racecars that i cant remember the name of)

that would be pretty hard. I guess you could exhale most off it as co2 water and nitrogen if it comes down to it but there are still the small mineral parts that will accumulate. wich would basically mean your breath is literally exhaled shit and and about once a month you shit out a huge spiky clump of various salts. you could also piss it out but then you would have to go much more frequently since the volume dissolved in water is much bigger.

Yes to both of these. I'd also change the shape and biomechanics of the foot. It's a work in progress and clearly flawed for what it's trying to do, in addition to being less attractive.

As an alternative to changing female genitals, why not delay most of brain growth until shortly after birth? The baby can be born microcephalic, then the skull fills with fluid to get the shape right, and then the brain grows to fill the cavity.

You push back mental age by about a year but greatly improve mortality of mother and child.

Internal testes for men, possibly with cosmetic fatty bodies to provide the cosmetic illusion. I've got abnormally large testicles and it's never done me any favors. Just hurts like hell when they're hit.

I'd take a larger, more powerful brain. Human brain volume has dropped from 1500 to 1350 over the past few tens of thousands of years. There are debates about why, but an increase in size with same pound-for-pound efficiency would be an obvious win.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Respirocytes. Nanomachines that store oxygen and CO2 more efficiently than hemoglobin. The theoretical maximum is 300x current capacity, but I'd settle for "only" 50x. Hold your breath for an hour, easy. No need to breathe while running, meaning that all your energy can be spent moving your legs. If your heart stops, a much longer delay until brain death kicks in.

>>47804954

Or why not mod the brain to be more content and mentally stable, so you won't feel the need for drugs in the first place?

I could see the brain being designed with "gears"-- a hyperfocused mode good for study and fine work, a hyperalert mode good for combat/survival/sports, and a resting mode good for patiently waiting.

make humans spaceproof. fuck surfaceworldlers with their gravity holding them down. tougher skin that can better hold pressure in case off off vacuum exposure, also inner eyelids that can close tightly and protect the eyes from vacuum while not making you completly blind. a sphinterlike organ that shuts down on your airway in case of vacuum exposuse protecting your lung from it. another hole to release co2 from instead of the lungs making rebreathers much simpler and more hemoglobing to store oxigen like sea mammals have for diving. also hands as your feet like some monkeys do since there is no up and down in space and you arent standing on anything anyway. probably rotate the kneejoint while you are at it. also better radiation resitance due to cosmic radiation. also a knot because your partner might float away while fucking.

Yeah in a setting I'm building, the most common habitable world is the underground oceans of Europa-like moons (and planets around red and brown dwarfs). Most such life evolves in the warm gas vents, takes millions of years to develop a bio-based technology. So throughout the galaxy, most life is intelligent seafood: crustaceans and cephalopods of various kinds.

Every few million years, one will invent spaceflight. Hard considering the environment, but there's so many damn species that shit happens. Then they start exploring outside their solar system and eventually every race in the galaxy has spaceflight.

Rocky worlds with thin but not too thin atmospheres are very rare, but every once in a while you get an intelligent species on one of them. Their evolutionary trajectory is totally different, though fortunately the wide variety of climatological niches on such worlds means there's a limit to how much they can spread.

Humans, therefore, are terrifying. We can swim, run, and climb. We're adapted to live easily almost anywhere on our world, and aggressively spread everywhere else, too. As omnivores, we can eat almost anything. We practice biotech like every race, but our main focus is mechanics and metallurgy, which is wildly advanced compared to most races. Forget millions of years... a few *thousand* years after inventing writing and math, we're already building primitive early spaceships. This despite living on a high-gravity world with an atmosphere.

The human spread must be terrifying to races used to intelligent lobsters taking a millennia-scale view of history. Our "just out of the caves" savagery married to our hypertech and anatomical superiority make us very, very scary.

Very few companies survive a transition between tech bases. Usually the ones that do only avoid being competed out of existence due to government protection.

There's a famous study of hard drive manufacturers. Every time magnetic media had a major qualitative improvement, the old companies went tits-up and were replaced by startups. The CEOs understood the problem and tried like hell to avoid it, but the bottom line is that disruptive innovations require entirely different organizations and infrastructures. It's easier to free up human and financial resources via bankruptcy and then reorganize them into new organizations (growing entrepreneurial ventures).

So bottom line: even if regulation didn't keep it out of the West and hand the advantage to Asia, which I suspect it will, the generational effect would mean that the companies that make genemods/biomods won't be names you recognize now.

This is a myth. Dinosaurs only had one brain. The cavity didn't contain nervous tissue.

However, additional brain tissue, or a computer extension to the brain, would be fantastic. I used to think it would be best to have an AI riding on board, but now I'm thinking that simply expanding the brain itself to allow multitasking and computer-like functions (brain/computer merging) is the best solution.

From GURPS Transhuman Space: a vignette where a guy wakes up to find that his legs have been modded and his arms have been replaced with another set of legs. He's being sold to a pony fetishist. Giddyap!

There's another one where a guy goes into a hostess bar in Japan. His sister's there: she'd had big dreams of modeling but ran out of money. So now she's got fur, tall ears, and a foxy tail. She's making lots of money and in a few years will have enough to pay for surgery to remove the mods.

Almost all mammal species have an os penis (tl note: os means bone). Humans are notable for not having one. It was part of what came with concealed ovulation. To make sure that you get a girl pregnant, you have to have sex more often rather than in a short obvious period when she would be in heat. Therefore, you have pressure to have longer bouts of sex (you last longer) to aid pair bonding, with the tradeoff being that she lasts longer as well. Sperm count goes down because you're having sex all the time rather than in that one small window of time i.e. heat.

Which mode do you have sex in?
>>
>>47822078

I hadn't thought it through that far, but maybe the hyperalert state? Unless you do fetish or tantric or sensate focus, in which case focus takes priority.

I could see a fetish for people who go into zone out mode for sex on purpose.
>>
>>47819511
>will always have a female monster girl as her child
This isn't possible, males produce the gametes that determine what sex the child will be. The monstergirls would either need to reproduce parthenogenically or with males that have modified gonads in order to only produce female children. The parthenogenesis can be triggered by sexual stimulation, it just won't actually be genetically related to any males the mother had sex with.
>>
>>47822223
How difficult would it be to make a male child pure himan, but a female child the strain of her mother?
>>
>>47820844
Rampant cell division is cancer, limitless telemeres just cure aging and related issues like organ failure. Although getting cancer with such telemeres would be a massive pile of suck. But hey, maybe we cure most cancers by then.
>>
>>47822310
I figure if you modified the DNA to work like that, it would no longer be human and instead be a separate species with a superficial resemblance to humans and high sexual dimorphism.
>>
>>47822345
Just chop the cancer part off and let it regenerate again.

>>
>>47819349
>scientists don't actually know why we need sleep to live
That seems weird to me. I mean, what machine doesn't need a rest period, especially one that self-heals? When I don't get enough sleep, I lack focus and clarity, my leg muscles get sore from overuse, my eyes hurt from being used too continuously. I think there are some really obvious things that require sleep to rebuild, re-calibrate, or just give a cooldown period to.
>>
>>47822415
Perhaps, but would it be possible to have multiple female strains, but only one male strain?
What would happen if a male born from a mother of 1 strain impregnated a female of another strain?
>>
>>47822460
One issue is, yes, the brain would be a bad idea to start cutting away. Even uf new neurons grow later, you end up losing tons of neural pathways. Memories, language, coordination and everything else, lost.

And even if you "only" lose a limb or something, telemeres don't give superhero regen. You have to wait a really, massively long time for that to happen. Or just clone stuff I suppose.
>>
>>47822223

Nice quads, but my idea was that male fetuses wouldn't be viable and would never get past fertilization to start gestation.

Basically, the egg would die unless it has a normal human X chromosome and a monstergirl modified X. Hence you can ONLY be fertilized by a normal human male, and only become pregnant with female monstergirl children.

(The harder question is why you wouldn't get normal humans half the time from the monstergirl's unmodified X. My answer is that genes don't transfer between the two chromosomes and the monstergirl's body won't accept implantation unless it was a hybrid. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
>>
>>47822461

That's one of many theories. Not many humans have been kept awake until they died, and never under scientific conditions. Mammals die if kept awake long enough.

The thing is, we don't know. It could be a combination of several things. There are reasons why sleep should be advantageous from an evolutionary standpoint, but no reason why it should be fatal to not have it.
>>
Some sort of eye like array of cells that we could then tap into for data transfer would be good.

Like insert a patch of cells into your neck and then you could have an external device on that feed you input via it.
>>
I'd like an organ that produces hematopoietic stem cells so I can replace my bigger bones with high powered batteries to charge all my stuff with and maybe also power an exosuit or something.
>>
>>47800891
>what artificial organs might be created for humans
Something that can make a human have the ability to connect to machines and understand them on a fundamental level. Like some IT guy has a device implanted in his palms that travel to his brain and he can find problems in a network fast just by touching the wires.
>>
>>47823157
I think you're thinking of a guy who implanted magnets into his fingertips, so he can tell when current is passing through a wire by the magnets tugging around in his hand.

Extra senses would be good, though. Like eyes that can absorb a wider range of light, the brain adaptations to parse multiple frequencies independently, and selective filter frequencies.

>but no reason why it should be fatal to not have it.
Eh, there are actually a couple of possible reasons posited. Brain damage, severely depressed immune system, too much stress on circulatory system. It doesn't seem that mysterious to me. In the rat experiment they did, the real question is what killed those specific rats, not why sleep was required, and if treated, could it be eliminated. they said it was possible that their immune system was so compromised that their own gut bacteria killed them. But when administered antibiotics, they died anyway, so another system could have killed them the first time, or it could just be that there are multiple ways lack of sleep will cause your death. And it's likely not "treatable". Sleep evolved to accomplish the things it does for the body over billions of years, and it might be possible to allow someone to live with less sleep, but questionably necessary or advised.
>>
>>47810911
That's the right thought process there, anon.
>>
>>47818792
>There are debates about why, but an increase in size with same pound-for-pound efficiency would be an obvious win.

That's not necessarily possible. Just like in computer chips, bigger size doesn't automatically mean linear increase in performance, because different parts of the brain still need to communicate with each other(not to mention all the communication between neorons in the same area), and if you increase the size, the latency of the communications increases, thus slowing things down.
>>
>>47823727
>it might be possible to allow someone to live with less sleep, but questionably necessary or advised.
Fucker, you might be content losing 1/3 of your life to being unconscious, but I am not.

I tried polyphasic sleep with 2-2.5 hours a day of sleep and felt even better than I did normally. Can't wait until my lease runs out and I can buy or build a soundproof home to resume the experiment.

>>47800891
I realize it doesn't fall under the category of an "organ" but as soon as they invent nerve grafts, that's going to be way more sexually useful than any of the animal genitalia all these anons are proposing.

You're on /tg/ you self-righteous twat. You're wasting your life anyway.
>>
>>47824601

Not necessarily linear (actually the weight to performance relationship is roughly log(n)). But you'd get SOME improvement.

And remember that brain matter isn't uniformly important. What if we just added solely to the cerebral cortex and left the rest of the brain alone? Or added to the parts that do balance and coordination? You'd see major improvements in one area but few or no changes in others.
>>
>>47822464
That gets too far into multiple alleles, epistasis, and other genetic concepts than I want to explain right now. Maybe tomorrow.
