Serious question for DE players, since I've never even seen a DE army before: have you ever won a game? I'm seriously considering starting DE because I love the fluff and models, but I'm too poor to spend money on an army of paper weights for my shelf. So I'd like to actually be able to play them without getting tabled on turn 2 every game. Is this possible?

Good people. Lore wise, do the skitarii have a mind of their own? Can they think and feel emotions like rage and happiness?

It's important.

Skitarii aren't completely programmed, though they do possess less of a personality than a Magos they have not undergone a Rite of Pure Thought or analogous process. They slay in the Omnissiah's name and do possess some measure of AdMech-brand righteous zeal within them as they go to war.
>>
>>47773582
"Skitarii creation is a closely kept secret of the Adeptus Mechanicus, but what is clear is that involves heavy cybernetic augmentation to those with a fanatical faith in the Omnissiah. While their bodies are more machine than flesh, they are not true Servitors and still retain independent thought."

They can think for themselves. However, IIRC, the local friendly techpriest can just hit the "Take Over" button and control them directly for maximum efficiency
>>
What's a good way to field honour guard? I'm trying to fit them into a hybrid bike/mech space marine list.
A land raider crusader is the best I can come up with, but it ends up being too many points.

>Each box of 6 Daemonettes comes with a bombshell, a chubby, a granny, a loli, a futa, and one of indeterminate gender
>>
>>47773744
Aren't honour guards the most point-efficient assault units in the space marine codex?

>To compare, footslogging Vanguard Veterans with power weapons are 24 points a model. For ONE POINT per model more, you get Artificer Armor and the ability to buy a Chapter Banner. Or if you prefer, compared to assault terminators, Honor Guard are ten points cheaper, have a choice of Power Sword, Lance, Axe, or Maul, but don't have an invul or lightning claws. What Honour Guard have over both their competitors, however, is sheer number of attacks. Each model gets two base, plus a third for dual wielding, four on the charge, and five if you grab a Chapter Banner or Standard of the Emperor Ascendant, making Honour Guard excellent at killing an entire enemy unit in a single assault phase.

>>
>>47773811

6 inch movement and lack of invul kills them. If you are going to use them you have to infiltrate them somehow. Using only their base size of 3 you can stick them almost anywhere and they will still murder most things.
>>
>>47773811
No. Most point-efficient assault unit in SM codex is Smashbane or Smashfucker if you're playing Iron Hands. The rest just dont archive much during the game. And in the end thats the thing that matters most.
>>
>>47773927
>>47773929
Mh. I'm obviously new to the tabletop, so I'd appreciate some advice:
Could you use a 3 man honour guard squad to zone enemy assault squads from your shootyboys or would it be a waste of points to keep them back as bodyguards for your backline?
>>
Need help here. Most players at my Flgs are guard players and run a fuckload of Leman Russ. How can i as a SM player reliably take out AV14 while still having some points left over for anti infantry units? we play at 1850pts and i run Iron Hands.

I recently gained interest in 40k having last played it around 2003,really interested in Dark eldar and Harlequins. Harlequins dont have as many toys but I love the fluff and look of them. I know I can play them together but how long before Harlequins get more stuff? Figure I can start DE and peice space clowns together over time.
>>
>>47774102
Wait at least one week before buying any 'quins, just in case they get a Start Collecting box up for preorder next week.
>>
>>47774135
Cool thanks man. Hope it would look better than the Craftworld one!
>>
>>47773993

Depends on what is assaulting them. If it is a horde that they're up against they will do fine. Anything with an invul save will probably kill them.

Like Assault Terminators will kill them, so will Thunderwolf Calvary, and any assault-oriented MC (Dreadknight). Most Daemons will be hurting them as well.

So you need to think of them as bully units. You don't use them to go head to head against an enemy, you use them to sucker punch them somewhere. The only exception is if you have a Chapter Master with Shield Eternal with them, because he can tank all the wounds then.
>>
>>47774158
It'll probably be a troupe, a HQ but in the wrong slot and either bikes or a transport/heavy support.
>>
>>47774177
Checked. That sounds like a pretty decent start then.
>>
>>47774170
Mh. what's the best way to suckerpunch enemies when your guys move 6" per turn+running? I haven't really done any infiltrating or outflanking in my games yet.
>>
>>47774216
Assault isn't a good way to sucker punch people because there are a million things that prohibit charging but allow shooting. Outflanking or deepstriking is a good way to sucker punch with shooting.

For melee it would have to be psychic powers, space marines get some good ones that allow a unit to suddenly cross the map and assault in their angels of death book.
>>
>>47774216
Pretty much none outside of decent assault trasports. And there arent many of those in this game, sadly.
>>
>>47773120

How do you fancy kicking your enemies’ teef right in, boss? How about a turn-two charge featuring over thirty Ork Boys getting right up in your opponent’s dismayed face before they have time to react? Sounds pretty good to us. With this bundle, unless your dice are afflicted by a terrible curse, you’ll be able to close in on pretty much anything on a gameboard. It’s fast, it’s dirty and it’s gleeful – pure Ork goodness.

This bundle contains 3 Deff Roller Battlewagons and 3 sets of Ork Boyz, designed to tear across the table as fast as possible and smash faces. You’ll have a lot of fun with it...

>Why does a massive increase to mobility in an otherwise slow unit make this unit so much more powerful
>>
>>47775223
Grav is short range, so dropping on top of a target helps them a lot.

35 points to make the even better versus a couple hundred for a Land Raider.
>>
>>47775223
Most competitive lists run off expensive, high-cost units like Wraithknights, Riptides or general Knights. With Drop Pods and potentially a Librarian the Centurions have the ability to go anywhere they want, kill exactly what they want in the proceeding turn with Grav. If they were just footslogging people would turn them into pincushions with their stronger weapons a little bit before they get into killrange of all their preferred targets.
>>
>>47775223
Gravity cannons are short range and salvo. You can drop pod in and fire as if stationary, which lets them clear a unit the turn they enter and then everything they kill after that is pure profit.

The infiltrating Nurglings that cant be overwatched and no scatter deep striking (icons on all drone squads) makes the list.

Look into your formations. Adding some different aspect warriors would probably be a good idea if you like infantry.

Warp Spiders>Swooping Hawks>Fire Dragons>Dark Reapers>Shining Spears>Howling Banshees>Striking Scorpions.

If you add 2 of the above and 1 more unit of guardians you can field the Aspect formation which consists of any 3 aspect units in any combination.

Grav is super strong so are the formations, but if your opponent is cheesing and you´re not then his army should be stronger.

Mobilized veterans with melta and the special tank commander in a LR with the minigun, sorry but I´m not too familiar. It´s just more sort of a general rule that internal balance is a bigger issue than external balance.

A big problem a lot of people are facing is that the people playing the codices which are generally powerful (Eldar, Crons...) also exploit the internal imbalance (Wraithknights and certain formations within the Cron Decurion formation).

If I wanna start a Guard army, should I buy the Start Collecting bundle shit or just get a CCS and two guard squads?
>>
>>47776337
It's hard to say, you kinda need to specialise with guard because of the model count.

Start collecting kit would lead you towards a more infantry heavy gunline guard, your next best purchase would be a second get started box and a ccs to make a tank commander and platoon.

ccs and two guard squads would be more veteran heavy, you'd need chimeras. all guard armies need chimeras but this would need way more.
>>
>>47775411
Have you considered using a nurgle forgehost and epidemius? Nurgle grinders can pile wounds on and with re-rolls to hit and wound you are almost guaranteed to turn any unit in range into another free tier of the Tally

Pointing out firing lanes, unit mobility considerations, sighting and targeting priorities (always have the unit with the least options for targets shoot first, identify the most dangerous units on the field, etc).

At one point he tank-shocked a squad of veterans off the board, and said veterans cut off the retreat of one of my chimeras as they ran. if he hadn't run out of dudes to fight with it might've been REALLY interesting.

Overall casualties on my end: 2 chimeras, 2 squads of veterans, and one Leman Russ Battle Tank. So about a third of my forces.

That's kind of the point, though. They thought he was a diplomat, when instead he was just another Nob who got sent by his boss to demand terms before he went back to being a Nob. Just because a military officer/commander delivers terms doesn't make them a diplomat, and for the record, Orks delivering terms to enemies is something that has always existed in canon (though in a much more primitive fashion).

Compare that to the actual position of diplomat, which was a specifically appointed individual intended to facilitate long-term relations between two powers, and typically negotiate agreements and be the "foreign voice" in a court.

By your logic, Kaptin Bluddflagg is a diplomat, because he discussed terms with an Inquisitor.

I never once said I hated anyone for playing Tau. The anon in question does fit /tg/'s definition of Taufag though. The dude starts off with 'keep crying'. Then incorrectly claims samefag. Then just goes all in on mega-retard mode.

As for Fire Warriors, yeah I dont think theyre anything but average. I think part of their problem is that the Tau codex has a handful of units that are so good, average units (in the context of 7th ed. as a whole) look bad in comparison. You dont have to dare me to disagree, we can discuss the game like regular anons.

Most tanks have Rear Armor 10, and seeing as how all hits against non-Walker vehicles in CC are against their Rear Armor value, they're still pretty okay.

If you're referring to the fact that they can no longer spam Krak Grenades, eh. It was a clarification that we all knew was coming, and kind of needed to happen.

As a Tau player, I fucking hate Riptides, Stormsurges and all these OP formations for giving the army such a bad reputation and attracting so many insufferable cunts to my team.

I'm sure there's a good few Eldar, Necron and SM players who feel the same as me. You ain't alone.

Am putting together an army for a campaign coming up in a few months. I'm trying to make a human style army for the NPC faction. Most will just be a swap of the IG units, but I wanted to try to get at least a few of its own units. How is this for a light tank?

BS 3 Armour F12 S11 R10 HP 3
Fast vehicle
Main gun is either an autocannon variant or the baby battle cannon from the Taurox. And two heavy stubbers, one in the hull and one in the turret.

I don't see the problem with owning a Riptide or more than one as long as you aren't putting them on the field constantly for the purpose of cheesing it and as long as they aren't the backbone of your army.
>>
>>47778675
Tac Squads being able to take two Special Weapons per squad and/or two pistols per model would go a long way toward making them useful. The latter would require changes to assault that should happen anyway.

Hey, to eat his own. I'm just saying as a Tau player myself who dislikes the use of suits, even if I fielded them, I'd never even buy a Riptide.

>>47778811
>TripsDubDubs
Cheque'D. I get it that they're frontline units but I don't see how that has anything to do with having proportions that look like the legs would snap within minutes and the arm looking unable to even lift its own fucking gun.

If I ever got given a Riptide or found one in the garbage somewhere (cause I ain't ever buying one), I'd convert it to have bigger arms and stockier legs and perhaps shave a fair chunk off the torso. Maybe scratchbuilt a much larger head. And I'd still never field it unless it's 2000+ friendly agreed upon beforehand.

Two pistols for no cost is a budget Storm Bolter thanks to the Gunslinger USR. Chaos's biggest problem is how insanely overcosted everything is, but that would also partially be fixed by an Assault revamp.
>>

Me too. Such a beautiful model, lovely parts and spares and very modular. As a kit, it's an outstanding piece.
>>
>>47778813

>suffer people sperging out

They'd do that anyway so I'm not concerned.

That being said, I don't like something like the Riptide Wing or multiple Riptides being the backbone of an army.

That makes it easy to counter if someone knows you're going to do that.

Plus you can get more utility out of the Crisis, Stealth and Broadside working together than a few Riptides.
>>
>>47778872
I'm just recommending that you pull the armor stats from an existing vehicle. 12/10/10 like a Chimera, 11/11/10 like a Rhino, and 13/11/10 like a Repressor or Vindicator are pretty common AV levels.
>>
>>47778882
I'd really love to see more skimmers and flyers. But that'll probably never happen, they'll just keep making bigger and bigger suits until they have suits that wrestle Emperor Titans into submission.
>>
>>47779013

Well if they're willing to make Drone Turrets and Remoras, I'm sure more skimmers and flyers are on the way.

But being that the makers of the game are focused on making money, the suits will probably always have the lime light given they seem to be a money maker.

It's completely reasonable for one guy to run up and stick a grenade in a weak spot before booking it away from the target (which is how it's done with real AT grenades/charges), it's another for ten different people to try doing the same thing at the same time and not magically get hit by a friendly grenade or their own.
