Looks like another DoW2
>>
>>47758686
Not a bad thing desu as long as they don't continue with whatever the fuck the last expansion for DoW2 did.

I preferred the vanilla + expansion campaigns because they were more freeform in nature, and the equipment drop system was neat.
>>

STRIKES

Also, majestic 24 fps after 0:40.
>>
>>47758744
I was not a big fan of DoW 2 because i love god old fasion base building, but I will probably buy it if its not a buggy piece of shit
>>
>>47758611
Effectively killed most of my hype. Still buying it probably. So much wasted potential.
>>
>>47758744

Agreed famalam. Retributions campaign ended up being kind of shitty overall

Dow2 and CR was great though. I replayed them recently and I'm 99% sure I'm going to run a Quest here as a result.

No one has done a reasonably serious SM quest here in a very long time.

I don't know how I feel about Angelos' new voice.

NOT MY GABE! FUCK THIS SHIT!
>>
>>47759053
It's not a fuck-this-shit complaint, but it's still a little jarring. Not the kind of thing that will make me skip the game, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
>>

Maybe it's just a stand-in until the game is finished?

>>
>>47758686
How, though? You have more than 4 space marines, and there is base building again.
>>
>>47759827
I think anon means his disappointment because it isn't a base building game like the first DoW, because of the colors and this one colors seem darker than the ones from the old images of gameplay

I'm not sure what to think, feel a bit underwhelmed by it. I wanted a streamlined II with the scale of I. This just looks like they cherry picked a few things and then bolted it onto an RTS from the early 2000's? The unit collision detection seems worse than the first game.

It's pre-alpha, they're literally just showing all they can show right now. Fuck, there are animations that simply aren't finished yet. (you can see this when the Whirlwinds deepstrike)

And remember, Relic staff does fucking read /tg/. They will very likely adjust Gabriel's hammaslamma animation eventually as well as get his very expensive VA back when it's time. (It's actually more cost effective to get a shoddy temp early on than to have the VA be scheduled both early and late into development)

So there's only going to be three playable races on launch? That's what the description on Steam seems to suggest. Space Marines, Orks, and Eldar.

It's canon that Space Marines can do backflips in Terminator Armor. Terminator Armor has the power in its motive systems to move gracefully and fluidly; just because it looks boxy in shitty tabletop models, neckbeards think it's like walking around in a college sports game mascot suit.
>>
>>47765318
Chaos is post-launch DLC.

>>47765305
I feel like what we saw in the trailer was a vertical slice of some concept campaign level made based on the models they stuck onto photoshopped backgrounds for the "screenshots" in the announcement. It'll be 2019 before this game gets released.

Company of heroes was bad. DoW 2 is disliked because people loved DoW 1 and when a sequel finally came it was a completely different genre.

>Terminator Armor has the power in its motive systems to move gracefully and fluidly; just because it looks boxy in shitty tabletop models, neckbeards think it's like walking around in a college sports game mascot suit.

>Plates of heavy plasteel further armour the ceramite sections, especially on the front of the suit. This extra armouring provides a level of protection that is far superior to normal Marine armor; not even a Krak missile will penetrate the suit's breastplate.[7] It also contributes to the immense weight of the suit, making the wearer less maneuverable and slower.

I'm not saying Terminators should move like a paraplegic learning to walk but they shouldn't be winning gold medals in gymnastics like Gabe is.
>>
>>47760395
>company of heroes with swords and magic and tanks and tyranids, it was amazing.

You forgot a few things: No base building, smaller scale, more micromanaging, SPESHUL ABILITEEZ!, and having to choose between actual units and single characters who happen to be 100 times stronger than anyone in those units.
>>
>>47758611
It looks really good. The scale looks fun, there's spell casting (specifically activating the flamer in the squad, the jump packs, the missile launcher), and I didn't hear anything about morale. The question for me is about controls and hotkeys, and how the base building will work, if it even exists. If it feels good, I'm super excited.

That being said, the environment/map looks like shit. Bland, no cliffs, just icy wastes. Same in the cinematic trailer we got. There better be diversity. 40k with no good terrain is meh at best.

>>47769768
A knight isn't a bad choice for your mandatory minimum diversity. You own body isn't that important when you're running a giant war machine. Sure you can have female guard, like Lt. Mirra from space marine, but in my bit of 40k readings it sounds like mixed gender regiments are a rare thing and the female regiments are often assigned as rear echelon units. Inquisition also works but if you want frontline combat female character a knight isn't a bad choice.

Two named phaerakhs, 1 female named cryptek, 1 female named lychguard, and 1 female named triarch praetorian.

Considering that Necrons instantly recognized the gender/sex of these characters the moment they saw them, it means that necro-tits are canon.

>>
To me it seems that they combined elements of both 1 and 2, but incorporated their worst aspects into it
>basebuilding is in, but it seems even more pointless than in 1
>the elite units seem to be gamechangers, so you retreating them will be always better than risking death
>non-hero units appear to have very little customization and adaptability, require mass numbers to achieve something

To me it seems they took the merry go round of retreating from 2, the horrible massive blob engagements of bigger games in 1 and made them something that will always happen, not just under special circumstances.

Then there is the completely meh artstyle and the weeb shit animations of hero units. And I'd personally much more prefer if the Marines got some badass tank, like the Land Raider Terminus Ultra, than Knights.

Hey, Eliphas was anything but throwaway. In Dark Crusade his master killed him for being defeated by the Blood Ravens and failing to atone for his previous (Heresy-era) failure, but Relic brought him back for Chaos Rising. Where he was also defeated by the Blood Ravens, then brought back once more. And Blood Ravens winning Retribution means he was defeated and killed by them yet again, in that campaign's tutorial mission, but I'm sure he'll be back to cause even more mischief for the finest slaves of the dead Emperor in no time.

Mind you, a Knight Pilot is quite likely to do whatever the fuck they want. They are allied with the marines, not a servant of them.

Rather hope the knight and it's pilot are an actual part of the campaign and customizable rather than something that mostly just shows up when you need an endgame unit.

Was hoping they'd continue with the smaller, more focused tactical gameplay of 2. Instead it looks like we're back to the old snorefest of having two armies standing stock still and shining flashlights at each other for a solid minute.

Look, if people here want a large-scale 40k RTS then I get that, but DoW has never been the game to do that well. Me, I loved 2 since it cut down on the stuff that 1 was shit at anyway and instead focused on its strengths. It always seemed to me that 1 survived on the back of brand and memes, because in terms of actual gameplay it's kinda shit.

You do know that Eliphas is a big joke to old legion dudes?

The Inheritor was a nickname Lorgar gave him mockingly because he didn't earn his rank but inherited from the previous guy.
>>
>>47770614
I'm of mixed opinions. I adored 2 for its story and characters, which paired well with its smaller scale but more individually powerful units. That said, on any difficulty above normal it was a slog and bullet sponge bosses are always a fucking chore. And when Retribution came out, which largely had the same story for every faction, it was sorely lacking.

Dawn of War 1 shined when it came to Dark Crusade and the big campaign it gave you. Bespoke stronghold missions, solid voice work and a replayable structure. Soulstorm was also decent in this regard, if not as excellent.

As long as 3 has strong (and interesting) characterisation I'll be onboard with it. Though that terminator walk looks goofy as fuck.

>all other units stand around and just shoot at other units and are completely expendable
>only do stuff if they are amassed in huge numbers, but still nowhere near the hero units
>no in depth customization (it appears you either have a squad equipped with only bolters or only plasma guns)
>abilities also appear only to be small and directed cones of AoE
>supposedly no builder units, defense turrets or listening posts
>cover system is just a circular force shield
Unless this 2 gameplay reveals only showcase like 10% of the gameplay, then I don't see how this is supposed to be more tactical and engaging. As I've said, they made a MOBA from all the shit parts of 1 and 2

I'm honestly not at all impressed, and I've been waiting for DoW III for a long, long time.

It looks like it's been assembled from the worst parts of DoW and DoW II in a futile attempt to please both crowds, leaving a horribly janky mess where Space Marines die by the hundreds in a single match but the commander MOBA-hero's his way through hordes of enemies at the same time.

The return of DoW 1-style base building is also very disappointing. Relic could easily have introduced a system where each faction builds more or less structures in line with their lore, but instead we're getting the ridiculous 'Space Marine Camp Bastion Simulator' experience again.

The graphics also look very strange and not in a good way thanks to all those bright, flat colours with little in the way of actual detailing. Pre-alpha screenshots from DoW II (which came out some 7 years ago now) look much better than this game despite inferior graphics quality thanks to the vastly superior art-style that actually tried to make units and environments properly detailed as if they were real objects.

Honestly, all Relic had to do to make the perfect Dawn of War was create 'Company of Warhammer 40,000: Bigger Armies' and that's it. Dawn of War, as good as it was and still is, is an old game now and it shows. The newer Company of Heroes games are straight upgrades from Dawn of War that massively improve upon basically all aspects of the RTS gameplay that featured in Dawn of War. To completely disregard the huge raft of massive improvements that Relic have come up with over the years in favour of returning to the barebones 'stand in the open and out-DPS the other guys' gameplay is simply absurd.

It's the barebones and we have a problem with the barebones. "it's pre alpha" means they'll just add onto what they have now and we have a load of shit right now.

Unless they start over again they'll release this piece of shit which will alienate most of their current fanbase in the hope they can draw in the retards they're aiming the game at.

A lot of people defend the artstyle by saying 40k was always supposed to be funny and a self parody. That was 20 years ago. The 40k we all know and love is serious, gritty and grimdark.

They have no excuss for dumbing down gameplay either apart from cutting corners and being lazy.

You're supposed to bring infantry to screen your tanks and a mortar team or two to punish any AT guns or machine guns that try to engage. It very heavily encourages a combined-arms approach to your armies.

i ahve pretty much felt the same, but this is single player mode, it isn't really an indicator of the actual game. >>
desu people overestimate DoW 1 , especially its campaign which was utter shit, boring, not tactical since you didn'teven make an actual battle, you just had these retarded boring scenarios with even more retarded AI. Multiplayer was pretty nice, but also the second had a pretty decent multi, i would dare say better multi, but it was shredded into shit by last stand stealing all players and the fact that playing more actually made your units stronger. It is canon that Knight Houses are extremely conservative within an already extremely conservative universe. Not only that, but remnants of the minds of past pilots linger on within the warmachine. Not only is allowing a woman to be a knight is forsaking her to gender dysmorphia, it is forsaking every following generation of Knight who use that machine to gender dysmorphia. In a society with extremely rigid gender roles and feudal, dynastic politics in which is its the Knights duty to continue their bloodline.

Face it. Allowing a woman to pilot it will literally taint the machine forever. Unless it has only ever been piloted by women. I suppose that's a reasonable workaround.

That was what I meant. In the first DoW2 campaign Brian Dobson played him, with the exact same voice as the multiplayer Force Commander. There's the real reason the campaign FC was mute.

Then Paul Dobson returned to the series and reprised the role in Chaos Rising. At the same time, Relic resurrected another character he had originally played only to assign the part to Steve Blum (and apparently, on top of getting new voices after Dark Crusade, Eliphas and Thule somehow swapped accents as well).

Finally in Retribution all the existing unit voices were re-recorded for legal reasons or something, but while Paul remained Gabe's cutscene VA, his gameplay lines were still (re)done by Brian, so in the tutorial level he kept switching between his two different voices. What makes it really silly is that this was the only place in the game where the Brian Dobson Force Commander/Gabriel Angelos voice set was even used, as the actual Force Commander was now a different character with a different VA - and even completely rewritten lines, no doubt to better reflect Diomedes's distinctive mentality and outlook.

Really, what part gave you that impression? The many shots of large unmoving formations of dudes shooting at each other?

This looks like DoW 1 to me with slightly more intense unit control. Which I'm fine with. I enjoyed 2 a lot, but that style of play may be great for some elite SM squads but would be damned impossible to do on a large war setting.
>>

I really hate to say this, but I'm actually not liking the direction they are taking this to. At first I was willing to give the benefit of the doubt, after-all this is supposedly pre-alpha footage and a long ways off from the release date.

However, after watching and reading a few interviews they've been giving out at E3, I'm really thinking they are going in a pretty awful direction. I'm not the type to scream "MOBA!" just because there are some abilities and such, but they have explicitly stated that they are taking a great deal of inspiration from that genre.

Which makes me actually question if the change in art-style was because of the larger scale like they claim, or because they actually want to emulate the art-style of League or such to appeal to that audience. After-all I'm pretty sure many modern systems can handle the scale of DoW I battles with more graphical fidelity.

I'm really hoping this is just me worrying too much, but honestly I can't help it considering this was such a divergence from my image of a DoW sequel.

You're not the only one anon, a lot of people are pissed/worry at the direction it's looking at.

We can just hope Relic takes this onboard and changes their game, I have a feeling this wasn't Relic's idea though since they should know better. I reakon the guys on top might have pushed this style of game to drag in retards from the SC2/Moba/w/e crowd for more profit.

I'm pretty sure the ranking system only gave your units more bling, not actual stats.

But Marquess refers to the female, where Marquis is the male. Chieftess would imply female chief, just like anything with -ess as a suffix
>>
>>47765392
This is an obvious bait, yet I must reply, for the great justice.

>Terminator Armor has the power in its motive systems to move gracefully and fluidly;

It is heavy as shit. Marine inside trades mobility for tankiness. Best proof of how bulky terminators are is space hulk tabletop. Try navigating a group of marines in a T corridor, gotta feel that "gracefully and fluidly" for yourself anon.

I just wish they do some details properly, or that the comunitty fix the game. Right now it looks like starcraft 2 custom map iin almost every aspect, and its not that I dislike st2 as a game or the graphics, but they really dont fit the gritiness and hammy retardation that is 40k. How will I look at my gory battlefield full of dead bodies if the blood looks like glitter? I want the sense that something bad is happenning, not that I am playing a competitive rts with cockblaster135 calling me a faggot in chat because I didnt gave gg five minutes ago and made him waste time playing with me when he could be getting his platinun rank.
>>

Gameplay looks ok, but this map fucking kills me. It looks like some goddamn moba. Lava pools over bland cliffs of ice? Seriously?! Where are the glorious 40k cities, humble desert settlements and simple wilderness we know from previous DoW1 and 2?
>>

Totally agree withj this, some people seem not to mind but then again there is the huge divide between the DoW 1 and DoW 2 playerbase.

Even without the flamewar erupting between the two there are a reasonable number of people whom are at the least off-put or down right horrified at the direction the game is taken, >>47814764 sums it up quite nicely.

Expectations are a bitch though, certainly after SEGA release a Warhammer: Total War and announces elements of 1 & 2 being combined (which led me falsely so to believe it was going in the total war direction). Some people seem to be liking the new style or Downright ignoring this does in no way whats however looks like its predecessors.

Nigga, they ain't gonna waste time and resources on fancy terrain for a 30-second pre-alpha interview video clip.

In a perfect world, sure, but it's not unusual for them to cut that particular corner in this situation, especially if their game engine isn't particularly cutting-edge.

Marquess is male you idiot
>>
>>47816196
>But Marquess refers to the female, where Marquis is the male.
No it doesn't. Marquess is just the English spelling and Marquis the French.
The female version is Marchioness and Marquise respectively.
source: 60 seconds using google
This does not change the fact that your right about the word Chieftess though.
source: another 60 seconds in google
so congrats on only being 50% retarded.

We haven't heard anything of the OST yet.
The only piece of music was commissioned for the trailer.

>the commanders seem to be league of legend'd
They are nothing like LoL or DotA.
They don't level up, they are customisable.
They drop in and already have all their abilities and once they die, they are dead for good (no respawn).

That's literally the last line of what you are responding to.

Its not about women shouldn't be allowed to be Knights because girls have cooties. Its about how the Knight Titan itself needs to be gender segregated for the health of the pilots. The feedback is harsh enough when its the thoughts of a thousand grandfathers echoing in your head trying to tell you that you are them. Its extra fucked up when your dead grandma is also trying to convince you that you are her. Knights are supposed to last for thousands of years. Its a matter of the Houses trying to ensure their survival.

>I am about to answer her when I hear a crash of metal on stone. The sound sends adrenaline jolting through me, and I roll my shoulders before remembering I am no longer in my armour.
>House Cadmus Sacristans rush to Sir Tellurus. His armour has finally given out under the strain. His mount lies on its side, sparking and convulsing like a man in the throes of a grand mal seizure.
>With Cordelia still supporting me, I run to the fallen Knight. What the armour feels, the pilot feels, and the pain of such bio-feedback will be agonising.
>‘Get him out of there!’ I shout. ‘Now!’
>The Sacristans get to work on the shuddering Knight, and as I watch their efforts, I cannot help but think that Tellurus is resisting their efforts in some way.
>Almost as though he does not want their help.
>Then the canopy of the armour opens, and I see why Tellurus never speaks unless clad in armour. I understand in that moment something of what has driven Tellurus to become a Freeblade.
>Sir Tellurus is not a sir at all.

>In the wake of revelations concerning the true identity of Sir Tellurus, I sealed Verdus Ferrox and immediately ordered the Cadmus Sacristans to repair the Knight’s armour.
>The last of her line, Tellia, as is her true name, sat upon her dead father’s Throne Mechanicus as Hive Fleet Hydra destroyed her home world and slaughtered the rest of her family. Rather than accepting her fate and letting death claim her, she fought back and escaped in a suit of >Knight armour that resisted her control at every step.
>It speaks volumes to her courage and character that she was able to pilot a suit of Knight armour without years of training, or going mad with pain at a connection without the correct input sockets drilled in her spine.
>That a woman should be a pilot of a Knight goes against every tenet of knighthood and tradition. I should strip her of her armour and have her castigated for defiling millennia of tradition.
>But I will not.
>I owe Tellia my life, and I am bound by the same knightly code that should see her punished to honour my debt to her.
>More than that, I admire her. I should not, but I do.
>Cordelia has exacted a promise that I will never speak of Tellia, only of Tellurus. A hard promise to make, as deception is something every Knight of virtue abhors.
>But in all my years of marriage to Cordelia, I have learned that when she sets her mind to something, it is best not to get in her way.
>Sir Tellurus has also elected to remain on Vondrak, hoping to find and slay the tervigon beast that wiped out her line.
>An honourable quest, but one I fear can only end badly.

This would seem to imply that it's highly unusual at best, senpai.
