Any word on new theme lists? I'm looking to start a new army, think I'll go with Convergence. Gonna order a bunch of stuff in a couple weeks here and would like to have some corresponding units.

Only one that's known so far is the Cephalyx contract. But if that one is anything to go off of, they'll be strong.
>>
Reposting this.

(Mortenebra 1) Master Necrotech Mortenebra [+24]
- Deryliss
- Leviathan [16]
- Nightwretch [7]
- Nightwretch [7]
- Harrower [16]
- Malice [15]
Warwitch Siren [4]
Warwitch Siren [4]
Bane Knights (max) [17]
Bane Lord Tartarus [8]
Scrap Thrall [2]
Scrap Thrall [2]
Soul Trapper [1]

What I wanna do is get the 5 souls plus Spectral Steel on Malice so it goes up to 24 ARM, then use Overrun to deliver it into the opponent's caster with 8 focus.
>>
Why didn't they just remove theme forces?
>>
>>47749281
Why would you ever take a leviathan ever again?
>>
>>47749361
Because now it doesn't need Mertenebra to forcefeed it to work?
>>
>>47749361
Because Mortenebra is a ranged jack caster now.
>>
>>47749177
The Attendant Priest doesn't do much for the Gun Mages, since they're already magic damage on their guns, and Malekus's feat works with them already (since it works on enemy models taking damage rolls as opposed to friendly faction models making damage rolls).

With those points (plus possibly a wrack) I'd replace the Castigator or the Guardian with a Reckoner so:

a) You can drop Open Fire on three different ranged jacks each turn
b) You can open with a boosted Reckoner shot to land Flare on whatever you focus the (unboostable) Open Fire shots on.

The Castigator seems mildly redundant with the Vanquisher and Cleansers, and I'm not sure you'll get enough mileage out of the Guardian's arc node to make it worthwhile, so I'd think both are replaceable with a Reckoner. I'm looking (I'm working on a similar list) to stock three heavies and but a second unit on the table to hold Ignite. Or just take two Sunbursts.

But in any case, I don't think Malekus wants less than three ranged heavies.
>>
>>47749359
Because it allows them to sell you books to un-nerf the models they changed.
>>
>>47749422

Fair points. Guardian's largely for the fringe Scourge opportunities.
>>
>>47749276
Also another one hidden amounts the threads. It was a menoth one with like"

Gain a Free Small Sized Solo or the cleanser UA.

Warjacks gain Girded

1 Unit of Daughters of flame get ambush.

Considering we already know about that other things grant CRA, and out of faction units its pretty crazy.

A theme force is not just some environment manipulation. Its boosts to units/ Warjacks that change how they operate completely.

And like, some free points as well.
>>
Thoughts on Cyclone marshalled to Gun Mages with new JM rules?
>>
>>47749588
Eh. Its functional but feels kinda gimmicky.

>>47749492
Yeah, I just think it's kinda wasted without a Redeemer in tow, and I don't really see the points for that and everything else Malekus wants to do.

But I really see Malekus as a gunline caster throwing a lot of fire downfield with Cleansers to minifeat early against infantry and then jam until the feat turn kills a couple of heavies.

I am *really* looking forward to running Malekus with the Revelator. Pic related is what I plan to eventually do with him.
>>
Does anyone feel like uploading the thorn gun mages stats for a poorfag?
>>
>>47749680

Pretty interesting build, though depending on enemy list I'm not sure how well it can jam. Little infantry and a handful of heavies, and I'm not sure you can outlast them.
>>
>>47749727
Remains to be seen, of course, but before all of the sprays from the cleansers, it puts out 7 4" AoEs per turn, and then under feat can melt a gargossal at range. It's going to feat on turn 2 most of the time and have to do some serious work on feat turn, but I like the odds. Now to just get an actual release date on the Revelator.
>>
Do we have official (not from spoiler) cards
already?

I haven't really looked at Durst in Mk3 (and never found him that interesting in Mk2 -- with the caveat that "interesting" and "good" are different ideas), but have been toying with running pSevvy kinda Crusader-spammy with the idea that he can run infantry pretty well, and give the Crusaders time to get up the board to do work.

I'm really attracted to running multiple Crusaders with casters that like infantry to do their normal infantry stuff and have a battlegroup that hits hard and still has enough boxes to be non-trivial to remove.

I just re-read the cephalyx rules in the core book. The selective rule means that the Operating Theatre theme list is obligatory. Somewhat disappointing, but free overlords and hyper aggressive monstrosities don't come without a price.

Monstrocities look fun to play. Just a few acupuncture strikes and your at 3 focus.

Alexia is mostly still Alexia. She lost the disjunction ability that interfered with enemy casting (nerf, not major), and traded Disbinding for Spell Ward (decent buff, imo).

Biggest hit to her is that Spell Ward means that Durgen can't Prime the zombies anymore.

If you played the traditional Alexia, running her behind a screen of steelheads and making the opponent kill them all twice, she's still your girl. If you were more about the shenanigans, they've been reigned in a bit.

I have a question for you faggots.

I just got a bone swarm for a journeyman league. I noticed it comes in 2 parts and both are basically just a pile of skeletons. Would it be legal to just base both parts separately and get 2 swarms from the kit?

I was also thinking of doing the same with the Blind walker kit. Use the Wrastler parts and some water effect to make it look like it's swimming in deep water while assembling a full Blind walker. I'm doing some special basing so it won't just be parts glued to the base and then sand/flocked.

You're a fucking idiot. Circle are looking to be one of the top factions. They lost a few things which defined the faction in MKII because they were so broken, but now that's gone the faction has been powered up every where else. They lost very little and gained a shit load of control pieces.

Circle will be top tier.

Like every borderline-legal conversion: If it looks amazing, nobody will question it. Just google "mecha legion" for the perfect example.

Just sticking Wrastler arms+head on a base will look like crap. But you could make it look like he's leaping from underwater to bite some poor fool (any spare mini) with water splashing all around. Nobody will complain about you fielding that.

What's your experience with 'jacks that have the "unstable" rule? How often would they just blow up in your face? I never wanted (actually had balls) to include them in my lists for fear they would just fail and be nothing more than dead points. And with the new power up rule it just seems too tempting not to try and use that focus...What would be some good tactics for them? Load them up with focus, stomp right up to some target behind infantry, kill the target and blow the fuck up in the middle of the enemy squad? Is this actually worth it?

I see, haven't played against them in MK3 yet. In the single MK3 game I made against Circle I just noticed that their Heavies became a lot more manageable with the change to stones. Though of course TK and Hellmouth are still a thing, especially the latter.
>>

Go ahead, that sounds great.

So I did a quick count, and 4 animi in Trolls are not self. Far strike, Earth's Blessing, and Rage are each repeated twice. As someone who just started Trolls, I'm not sure where to go from here.

Importantly, unstable, at least in the leak, was changed to only trigger if more than 1 focus was spent, to go along with power up. However, the models withh unstable also lost the ability to run and charge for free.

Newfag here, what are some good mercs to combine with Koldun Kapitan Valachev?

A few good choices. Aiyana and Holt are popular. I've seen Tactical Arcanist Corps before. Alexia and the Risen are also not uncommonly paired with Valachev.

Beyond that, sky's the limit really.

>>47755200
Nyss Hunters, Croe's Cutthroats and Alexia aren't bad options.

Still considering options. Might replace the field gun or manhunter with a koldun lord to turn on Vlad 2's bullshit anti-shooting game. Koldun lord to deny shooting in 9 inches, then wind blasts outside of that to basically shut down most of his control area.
>>
>>47755328
Actually, consider dropping the manhunter for Lawrence of Arabia. The list has a pathfinder issue.
>>
>>47755372
That's a good point. Think I should keep the field gun, or go for koldun lord then? I was thinking of field gun as my HoF target but Behemoth is good for that too.
>>
>>47754931
Warmachine is not that kinda game.
>>
>>47752127
The Legion Animus scene in the new edition especially makes me mad. Before you could at least make a decision for a beast not necessarily for its own merits, but for the Animus support it could bring. Now you just get to pick a shitty beast with an overpriced animus that doesn't do shit. I'd argue that shit like Spiny Growth was too much, but then Rage, Rush, and Primal made it through just fine for some reason.

At least we kept wraithbane and slipstream I guess.
>>
>>47755421
You're right, it's the kinda game you buy both models then use proxy bases half the time, anyway. The dude had a creative idea to get more out of his kit and some faggots in here answered with bullshit elitism about their toy soldiers game. Seeing that these same assholes frequent this board, you probably download all your books anyway, which is ironic.

Fuck off.
>>
>>47755382
The field gun was kind of a head scratcher and yeah behemoth if you're boosting from powerful attack is probably a much better target. Ranged knockdown is pretty neato, though. That one's up to you!
>>
>>47755382
Ask yourself if you need a ranged KD. It's neat but I don't think it's necessary in your list
>>
>>47755475
I just like the field gun a lot. A pow 15 knockdown going downrange is no joke, I put it in most of my lists. Especially one that has 0 ranged presence outside of behemoth. But that koldun lord combo is something I definitely want to try, so I'll try both variants of the list out and see how they go.
>>
What's the news on power attacks in MK3? Can we finally disarm opponent's 'jacks and steal their hand-held weapons? Trip them? Rip arms out of sockets? MEGAS XLR type of action? :D

>>

yes because you're reading half the rule.
If the leader goes under enemy control, then another model in your unit instantly becomes the new leader.

That way if the controlled model is destroyed you still have a leader model.

>>
Emorv sucks, scales is on command range and no purification
>>
>>47756862
Page number?

Because maybe you need to read the field promotion rules.

You replace the leader with a grunt in exactly one circumstance: If the leader is destroyed while under your control.

If the leader is RFPd, or is destroyed under your opponents control, you DO NOT replace the leader.

You instead make another model in the unit into a unit commander, which is NOT a leader.

I think I can pull Google Play details (as I'm working on using Google login for people to save lists and post events) and serve up cards to only people who have purchased the appropriate War Room decks, but:

a) I'm not sure if PP would C&D me for that if I did it (since I'd only be showing cards to people who had already paid for them)
b) It's a non-trivial amount of work to do it (display the cards) *well*
c) I'm pretty sure that if I asked they'd say no, regardless of whether they would pursue it if implemented

So I'm disinclined to set it up. I've got a partial implementation for doing Mk2 War Room cards in html, but they changed the data format for War Room 2 and I haven't tried to reverse engineer it yet.

I'll try to email later but ideas off the top of my head;

Login screen to save rosters/make account
When you add a beast, don't make a user close/open the window each time--keep the beast/jack section open until they hit an X to close, saves clicks
Have a reorder function to move units/beasts/solos up in their sections/sub sections
When copying to clipboard, make the beasts under a caster single space entries--and unit types separated by double space (Units, solos, etc.)
Permalink is hella long
If you ever have log in functionality, allow us to name/save the army

Again, awesome work, love it.

No I didn't. Warmachine was my first tabletop game and I started like 5 years ago. I'm doing a heavily themed base and one of the core aspects of Kaiju movies is having a sneaky look at a monster early in the movie as it's passing buildings or it's swimming towards the land. As such I would like to use that as part of the army theme.

The bone swarms just make sense to split into 2. There's no reason to chuck money away when you can double tap with a few spare skulls.

>>47755083
I'm not poor, I just have a way to do something cool for my army and save money so I'm going to take it. Same way I could buy 6 heavy warjacks or I could buy 2 and magnetise and have the same options on the table top. It just makes sense.

I need to vent.

I like warmachine, really i do, but this "new war" (pp is asking not to call it mk3, because it isn't mk3) is a big let down.

It's like the land of missed opportunity.
I'm not bothered about individual model buffs/nerfs (even though some of them are quite surprising)
This has nothing to do with "muh army"
It's the basic rules.

Cavalry impact attacks are still in the rules. WTF? if something was a clusterfuck it was that. Why wasn't it replaced with power attack trample?

Throws still require a STR check? again WTF, talk about simplifying?

Water is still rough terrain; it could have been made so pathfinder didn't work in water, to give better granularity.

No more Cmd checks ! so wait, with great big cmd stats it just means units will be able to spread out and ignore AoEs ? but don't worry Cmd stats have been reduced and banners become useful because they bring +2cmd !
But i've checked the rules and cmd stats are often the same as before.

You'd also think that being in formation would be more restrictive, because cmd checks are gone, but no, that's all the same paragraph.

The terrain rules are still just as bad as before, despite the cute additions.

Are you sure this took 3 years of work and playtesting? Because it looks like something an armchair games designer threw this together over the weekend.
I could do better than this without breaking a fucking sweat.

Never have i been so close to giving up warmachine.
>>
>>47758804
I forgot that mini feats are still a thing too !
a warcaster can't feat and run, but sgt john can use his mini feat and run !

But wait - you can't charge your own models, but you can still target and attack them? What's the difference? How is that explained ?
You can't run up to your own guys and hit them, but you can walk up to them and hit them? At least Mk2 tried to be consistent.
Fuck, even Mk1 tried to be consistent.

I feel like I'm looking at confrontation1 becoming conf'v2: AKA change none of the rules that actually needed changing. The thing is that was Rackham, they couldn't write rules even if they had a rulebook on how to write rules.
But this is PP. I expected better.

Dammit i'm annoyed right now.

Premeasuring !

Well this is a clincher.
This is something GW got right.
Some games, like Eden for example, have premeasuring but static movement values, so yes you can hang 0.001" back and the opponent can't charge you.

When GW introduced premeasuring they brought in random charge ranges, but look at the random; 2D6 + SPD
2d6, like with a fucking gaussian distribution in addition to base SPD, a random stat that could be counted on.

So you get boring obvious premeasuring
and decent premeasuring

Why did PP choose the wrong one ???
>>
>>47758936
Pre measuring was already in the game with control area and command areas. It was just a matter of making life a bit easier. It's like bunny hopping in FPS, it wasn't meant to be there but it became such a core part of the gameplay once people found it that it was officially supported from there on out.

It's like complaining that in Chess there is a known movement value and range for everything, so people will just avoid those ranges unless it benefits them. Part of the game is setting up no win situations for your opponent and maybe he will put models 13" from your 12" threat range models. In response you drop a couple of AOEs on his unit because they're not engaged.

It also speeds up gameplay when you know how to use it properly. Instead of spending 2 minutes umming and arring over if you want to do something because you're not sure on the range you just measure it, go "yea that works" or "no, not enough range" and move straight forward.

Pre-measuring enables a higher level of tactical play for a larger number of people. Which improves the quality of the game. It even allows newbies to enter the game a bit more confident because they don't have go guess ranges, fuck it up and get smashed for it.

Pre measuring is a net gain. It does remove a small part of the skill of the game, but it tightens up play across the board to compensate. Plus as I said, any player worth a damn was pre-measuring shit all the time with the control area. Harby having 20" of pre-measuring while Morghoul has 10" was not something they balanced the game around so they simply removed it and opened up Design space with focus.
>>
>>47758804

Hymn of Battle is +2 damage only. Vassal lost Ancillary Attack and Enliven no longer denies free strikes (unless you're playing Amon). Errants got changed (laterally, imo). Bastions got nerfed.

And then, every jack other than the Reckoner got cheaper, and Power Up happened, and Amon is crazy now with cheap heavies. Cleansers and Daughters have a purpose now. The new caster is good.

Menoth got better against the field, imo, though, as a lot of strong stuff outside of faction got nerfed (which most of the forum idiots seem totally oblivious to), and our jack game is better, going into a jack-heavy edition.

People are talking up Khador and Cygnar, but honestly as a Menoth player I like the looks of Menoth over Khador and at least don't feel overwhelmed by Cygnar.

So, I'm working on a dumb Wurmwood scenario list. Premise is basically "use as much forest generation as possible and Lanyssa Ryssyll to stall the enemy as long as possible." To that end: I need help filling the list out with stuff to complement the useless forest generators.

Pic is where I'm at so far.

Who's starting a new army with Mk3?
What is the army and what's your paintscheme for them?
>>
>>47759944
I'm deciding between cyriss and minions.

A while back I got a cyriss battle box and a few light and heavy jacks, but haven't expanded past that.

For minions, I have 2 casters, posse, croaks, bone grinders, swamp shamblers, and various solos I was using with my skorne but don't have any beasts yet.
>>
>>47757015
Ordered from LGS, found out that their entire distributor got exactly four of each Hordes starter. The store ordered that many the first day they were allowed.

Thousands of stores can't getting Hordes because mine preordered the entire fucking distributor run.

Not me. Getting back into Cryx and everything I got is metal. The stuff that came with black and white cards is ironically more detailed than a lot of the new models.

It's slightly more expensive than just a Gladiator. No reason to get it.

I'd be buying for the Gladiator. Full stop. I was amazed at the mountain of unsold Skorne boxes at L+L Outpost Germany. Kind of sad really.

Well why would someone at L+L buy one? Every Skorne player owns those models already so you're just buying an overpriced warlock. Not to mention lots of Skorne players will be jumping ship.

What's a Good pairing for caine2?
>>
>>47761096
pStryker, eStryker, Nemo1/2/3, Darius, Maddox, Haley3
>>
>>47761125
Not that guy, but what determines a good pairing? At the moment for Skorne I'm thinking of having a main eHexeris list that's full of fire damage, then a backup list to use against factions resistant to fire or continuous effects, but that's as far as my train of thought goes.
>>
>>47761240

Covering a broad spectrum of possible opponents, handling the weaknesses of each other.
>>
>>47761262
So I bring my most powerful gimmick, then a different gimmick for when my main gimmick doesn't work. Got it.
>>
>>47761240
In general, a list needs to do one of two things.

1. Ask questions of your opponent

2. Answer your opponents question.

Some factions do a lot of 1, some factions do a lot of 2. Cyngar is set up to be firmly in the first camp: bringing powerful lists you need to be able to deal with.

Of course, a lot of this is meta dependent, which is why list building is so crazy right now. No one has any clue what actually works or doesn't.

As far as your pairing goes, you need to cover your main list, most of the time. If your first list murders all the warjacks, you want a list that can deal with infantry spam. If your list is terrible on scenario, you want a list that can deal with it.
>>
>>47761240
eHexy kills all the infantry forever but you should pair him with a rasheth or xekaar armor cracking list because people are going to be trying out jack spam. pZaal should work too.
>>
>>47759596
>for Battle Driven.
battle driven also lost the +2 spd part of it so Knights Exemplar will still be shit
>>
>>47761625
>Skorne
>Crack armour
Heh. Meanwhile my Khador opponent just spams Juggernauts for 11 points each and laughs as his heavies cost less, have higher MAT, have as many boxes, and have higher P+S even after Enrage.
>>
>>47761807
Rasheth gun line has some pretty amazing promise, especially when the Dakaar hits

>>47761771

>>47761870

>>47761807

>>
>>47762078
>Why can't this guy work for the faction whose men he murdered and whose stuff he stole
>>
>>47761962
because then some asshole brings a bunch of weapon master infantry and you can't deal with enough of them before they make your list disappear.
>>
>>47761962
>be me

So does nobody even know what their lists do anymore until we get new cards?

>>47762244
Cards are in Warroom, will be leaked to things like WHAC soon enough.
The leaked pdf rules are pretty close though.
>>
>>47762224
So I guess combined arms is the way to go?
>>
>>47762280
Looks like, at least while the meta figures itself out again.
With the new rules for Power Up and increased 'Jack points, I expect we'll be seeing 2-3 Heavies in most lists, rather than the 1 maybe 2 in Mk2
>>
>>47762133
Nigger it ain't like Xekaar is the only Skorne warlock with tools to crack armour. Morghoul1 still has Abuse, Naaresh still has his feat, Rasheth has Blood Mark AND his feat which is actually huge compared to Xekaar. I'd sooner pair my infantry muching Hexeris2 with Rasheth if I needed to crack armour.

My grandmother bought me this 40k mini... oh wait it's actually a Minion warbeast.

Decided to split the model up into 2. It's easy to do and it lets me have some fun with the wargames factory skeletons. I think it turned out reasonably well and I will work on the second one later. Going to have this one smashing up through a road, while the other will be leaping out of the ocean.

I had a lot of fun using eHexy and a mammoth in mk2, and want to see if it's still viable. It gaining some RAT makes its shooting more useful with black spot. If it doesn't work out then I'll swap it for a battlegroup much like yours.
>>
>>47762732
Well, do you remember croaks in mk2 killing everything with boosted pow 12s? Because incindiarii with croaks can still put some good dents on stuff if they're not just wiping infantry out.

I've also toyed around with this version of my rasheth list some. I want to see how Rhadeim does with all the shit Rasheth can do for him. He'd make a fantastic arc node, and can get around to do stupid damage with his AP spear on a blood mark target. Haven't actually played it yet.

I feel as though you're missing a huge trick with Hexeris2 in that he can channel through a Razor Wurm that's 28" away, and a Sentry can sit in the middle of the field and vomit Ashes to Ashes on any infantry nearby. Just run your Wurm behind their lines and watch them squirm as turning around to kill the 7 point light is a huge pain, but if they don't they can lose entire units or get a Black Spot in a nasty place.

I feel like Discordia is much better with her than Imperatus. It has a great shooting attack that capitalizes on Rhythm of War (and, from what I've found via a bit of playtesting, tends to be a game finisher if it hits the enemy warnoun), it's accurate in combat, and it boosts her ability to turn her army into a huge impenetrable brick for a turn or two. It also adds to the control element, shutting down animi and spells that could boost movement to catch you.

This would also free up four points for Sylys, who you really want.

General idea seems solid though.

Lord of the fist can still kill, get heart token, buy attack, kill and so on while using the bird. Thresher feels like a way to kill a larger clump of models or to deal with constructs.

With the backstrike change a Raven hit means he's putting a MAT 8 into the back of something."

If he didn't have heart eater then Thresher would be skornergestic. Since he does have it and can take advantage of dual attacks then it's just a decision point.

>but can we presume that the necessary units will be the same?

from what we've seen for most factions I would say not really, convergence being a half-faction means it's more likely just from having less stuff though
>>
>>47764912
No, because mk2 themes were a snapshot of a caster and what army they used. The mk3 themes are a sub-faction of the faction. Like manowar or iron fangs for khador, arcane tempest or trenchers for cygnar, or army of the western reaches for skorne.
>>
>>47765009

That's not how the Mk2 ones were? My primary army is Menoth, and most of the casters have related themes. Feora takes Flameguard units, Kreoss takes Exemplar units, etc.
>>
>>47764993

Any ideas for building a Convergence army then? I'm gonna start small, 50 points, but since I have no models at all for them right now it's still gonna take a bite out of my wallet. I know very little about the way Convergence plays other than some people say it's more complicated. I'm picking them for the same reason I picked Menoth which I knew nothing about when I started: I really fucking like the way they look.
>>
>>47765029
Right, because some casters are assosciated with a certain unit type. Feora is a flameguard caster. Not all of them are like that. What's Amon's unit type, or Harby's, or High Reclaimer's?

Like look at Khador. Kozlov is an Iron Fang, Strakhov is an Assault Kommando, Butcher is a crazy person, Zerkova and Karchev are greylords. What's Harkevich, or Vlad?
>>
>>47765059
Harby is actually associated with Paladins, and High Reclaimer is a fucking Reclaimer.

Amon is an Initiate of the Order of the Fist

so is skorne basically forced to take gunline Rasheth in every single one of their pairings? he seems to be the only warlock and list that can go toe to toe with a lot of shit out there. the combination of no forcing for animii, no channeling, arm and def debuffs on demand, rat 6 infantry (with dakar), powerful artillery, and fatty still having his ability to place down "fuck your infantry" clouds to control charge lanes and block LOS seems like skorne's only hope and a list that covers a lot of match ups.

am i wrong or is gunline rasheth basically skorne's only A tier warlock? (possibly even stronger, thats a whole lot of accurate high POW shooting...)
>>
>>47765520
I think the new BB caster is going to be able to deliver his army against most lists, even gunlines, so long as he can get far enough forward to feat on them. He's got the best defensive feat in the game, and it really gives his army an extra turn to get stuck in.
