It's both an artifact and a creature, so it's pretty easy to cheat out or reduce its costs. With trample and shroud and 7 power, it puts your opponent on a pretty short clock.

Still, it's a pretty awful rare.

How did you get such an impression?

In modern, tarmogoyf + blue cantrips is a definite combo.

In EDH, blue green X decks are the scourge of the meta.

In legacy, blue green black is a common choice for delver and for shardless decks.

In draft, EM blue has a lot of crazy bullshit control that needs muscle behind it, enter green.

Simic is sweet.
