Yeah, you should stop using shitty programs and not even bothering to type the list out from the program to boot.

And I just realized my Scion squads are 2 under of maximum strength... should I actually cut them down to 5 each and see if I can upgrade the bikes?

So I just bought a copy of the rulebook, and nothing else. I have two 20-sided dice and a 6-sided die that has multiples of 4.

Is this enough to play, or do I need the big three volume set for $70 as well?

In the last thread yea, the main highlights:

>>47686822
So does that one relic thing finally clarify that even if its not from the relic list in the beginning of the datasheet section that it still cant be taken with other relics?
>>
>>47686884
That depends on the legion you want to play I suppose
>>
>>47686812
You will need wahtever codex you decide to play as well as a fair more 6 six sided dice as well as a tape measure.

Once you actually buy models you will need snippers, a hobby knife, primer and paints.
>>
>>47686859
>have you ever played a tabletop rpg before
No, WH40k will be my first if it arrives before Star Wars d20, which is the one I bought the d20s for .

Also I don't think the d6 is a misprint, as it has numbers and not dots. But that's just something I found in a thrift shop.

Looking to start my first 40k army, a Nurgle CSM force with some sort of really cool demon engine.

Which of these troops are worth taking and how do you take them?

The cultist are great in that they are cheap and fill the troop slot but nothing else.

The Chaos Marines are alright, perhaps a bit expensive with transports and stuff. Probably grab at least one of these.

The Plague Marines sound cool and seem tough but are really expensive.
>>
>>47686962
No.

>>47686958

>>
>>47687096
Jumping off of this, is there any way to get even more FNP? Could you push it to 3up invuln and 3up FNP with Iron Hands, Apothecary, and something else?
>>
>>47686822
>LoS through droppods is determined by the physical state of the model
Oh, fuck that FAQ then
>>
>>47687096
>>47687040
This was always a thing. The rule specifically says "Gives the model a Narthicthlum for x points". It never says 'replace'.

>>47686958
>>47686899
Oh goodie, BA are even shittier than usual now you can't stack Angelic Visage, Angelic Wings and Vitas Vitae.
>>
>>47686897
Dark Angels essentially got the Space Marine dex with Dark Angel goodies. And an interesting point about that - outside of the ravenwing, the dark angel specific units aren't all that awesome. One can also argue that the Lion's Blade strike force is a more restrictive and thus weaker version of the Gladius. Where am I going with this? Well, citing the Dark Angels as being updated and not being shafted is not a terribly accurate representation of CSM's odds.
>>
>>47687156
>This was always a thing
The rule says, "one Veteran may be upgraded to an Apothecary, taking a narthecium." He gets a special statline and everything. The implication of that was that he was no longer a Veteran per se, because why not just say "one veteran may take a narthecium" instead?
>>
so /tg/ me and a few friends are getting into warhammer and i kinda wanna start out by doing a set of narrative battles but the problem is we have 3 space marine players (A BA player, A Ravengaurd player, and a GK player) our other players are orks, necrons and eldar. I was wondering if their is any way to make this workout that the space marines would have them fighting each other?
>>
>>47687180
>>47687156
So the Narthecium works like the Standard, then? You can have it AND Veteran weapons?
>>
>>47687124
At first I was /Pro40k/ but after reading what Elavion Dremorill has to say on YouTube Comment section I am a /X-Winger/ now.

Also

>HUR DUR PRICING POLICY

Do people just repeat what they've read from elsewhere? I'd hate to introduce them to the world of metal historical miniatures... Their minds would melt at the prices. Almost as if hobbies are expensive or shit.

>2000
>£15 for Tactical Box

>2016
>£25 for Tactical box

>£15 from 2000 in 2016 is £22.50
>Same amount of models both periods
>Except 2016 Tacticals have more options and customizations

It makes me cry. But, the solution is always to buy from recasters then moan that GW has to raise the price, cause, I mean, if they halve the price, they'll totally get over double the sales, right?
>>
>>47686636
Yep. I overheard some guys talking about how the old models were better and that they should have bought them when they played back then in the "glory days" pronouncing it "kask-rin", was pretty funny.
>>
>>47687180
Oh right. I was thinking about every other thing, like Apothecary in Paladin squad.
>>
>>47686984
Cultists are the best choice because they're cheap. 2 minimum squads of them is a safe bet.

If you take a Lord with Mark of Nurgle, you can take Plague Marines as a troops choice.

A Daemon Engine? I would've suggested the Heldrake, but the recent flyer supplement made it near useless.
Idk what to suggest to you man, they're all so bad. Just play the one you like most.

I play CSM with Cultist troops, 2 squads of Plague Marines in Rhinos, sometimes with a Decimator. My HQ is a Sorcerer named Bufu the Winless because he has never won a game. He wounds or kills himself with perils so much its uncanny. Have fun.

Just start collecting another army now. It's inevitable.
>>
>>47687173
but they're not the worse marine book now, that's the big thing. i'd rather be in 2nd over 4th
>>
>>47686760
The new FAQ allows you to model a drop pod with all but one door shut, blocking LoS and having the unit inside deploy 6" from the tip of the single open door.
>>
>>47687196
That's the case for GK's, I believe. It says you can upgrade one of the models to have a Narthecium. That means it can carry Force Falcions as well, or whatever.

>>47687202

>>

>>47687266
I know, I'm just saying BA are the worst codex in the game because you're now 2nd.
>>
>>47687156
>>47687180
The good thing about this is that it sets precedent for other codices to do the same for their character upgrades buying unit upgrades. Although the only one I can think of that's of interest (well, not just the units character taking a special/heavy weapon) is tankbusta nobz wielding tankhammers.
>>
>>47687212

BA are worse than CSM. Cultists and Zombies are better than Scouts for saving points on your troop taxes, and Chaos has access to superior psykers and tons of Daemon and FMC support.

I can't think of anything BA does better than DA, SW, or vanilla that's actually desirable in a competitive setting. Death Company? Melee stuff? Fast, non-Battle Company Rhinos? Not good enough.
>>
>>47686884
Stealing an entire painted army is already rape, so to do it again couldn't possibly cause more harm.

At least BA Libbys can roll on the AoD tables I think

CSM psykers are worse than shit because not only do they get the 6th edition Librarian power selection they also have to gen at least one power from a discipline that is filled with nothing but shit unless you're Slaanesh and they lose psychic focus.

SM can actually summon far better than CSM through Conclave. Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to let them roll on both tables? And why did they defend this in the FAQ?

That paint scheme is so ugly.

>>
>>47687316
Fast Vindicators are neat and all, but when Vanilla and DA can squadron them up for ULTRA SHOT mode, it's less of a thing to cheer about.

Mephy isn't a threat to anybody. He's a T5 guy with 2+. He has no Invul save and he doesn't have Eternal Warrior. A single Demolisher Cannon will crump him. Lysander will krump him. Eldar and Tau will laugh as they dakka him.

If he had ++ and EW, then he'd be scary, but he's essentially a +1S +1T ML2 Librarian and the +1S is useless as he's got a S10 power.

When I can take a ML2 Librarian on a Bike + Stormshield + Gallan's Staff for LESS than Mephy and have better survivability, then something is wrong :*(
>>
>>47687395
I copied it too as I was a retarded who just bought models for fun rather than playing and it wasn't until I copied my friend in getting CSM that I realised how the game worked

I bought a Leman Russ and then realised I couldn't use it for CSM, so I ripped the turret off and stuck it on my CSM Rhino and said it was a Predator

They can use AoD, yes. All Space Marine Librarians can. The only one who can't is Loth.

The best option is probably making a ML2 Lib Dread and rolling for Electroshield (only got a 1/6 chance to get it thou) and getting Quickening. A Ven. Dread with 3++ is neat. Shame SW Vens get that default in front arc AND counts as an additional combat weapon so +1A. BA Lib Dreads don't get +1A that way.

Another neat idea is getting a Biker Librarian with Storm Shield and going for Warpmetal to make the Lib Dread 14/13/11 or whatever. It's also useful on Death Company to make them T5.

>>
>>47687404
Yeah mephiston is wank, last time I played against my mates BA I got my warboss in combat with him, challenged him and instant killed him after my painboy patched the boss up from the stab mephy got in.

The conversation after went "Wait seriously?" "Yeah man, he doesn't have an invulnerable save" then I tried to figure out a way to keep him on the table, but even after I argued that he surely has EW and my friend relented it turned out I'd done 3 wounds to him anyway.
>>
>>47687313
>>47687404
The Sadness that leaks out of me while reading this is insurmountable. But i liked em for their fluff before i heard of how bad their rules were so i guess im stuck with the worst codex of a set of Overpowered codexes isn't that bad right? Right?
>>
>>47687404
You'll get your mega-Vindicators soon enough. Anyone not a retarded asshole would let you squadron your vehicles like the other astartes codexes can anyways.

Mephiston needs an invuln, but he doesn't really need/deserve EW when other codexes more reliant on multi-wound models don't get widepsread access to it.

I don't think Librarians can take Storm Shields.
>>
>>47687503
I personally believe due to the fluff of him surviving a gene curse and being one of the strongest psykers that he deserves eternal warrior. I mean he manages to fuck up a building so much that he collapsed it upon himself and survives 4 days under it while raging hard and then still manages to get up and fuck up a ton of orks and continues to walk on he deserves some thing that says that he can be not splatted by ID right away.
>>
>>47687503
>>47687404
Just checked; Librarians only get Storm Shields while in Terminator Armor.
>>
So my best friend calls me up and tells me he's ordering his new army. I expected it to be Khorne Daemons since he had said he was looking into Daemons.

Nope.

He's planning to flood the table with Daemonettes. He's going for a pure Slaanesh Daemon army (1500 points worth).

So now I need my second army. What could I play that could give some fair and fun matches against his Daemonette swarm?

They can, but they can't take a Bike as well. Terminator Librarian (25 for Termy armour) can get a Storm Shield for 10 points.

So 35 points. Plus 10 for the staff. That's 45 points. Plus 25 for ML2. That's 70. On top of 65 already, that's 135. Mephiston is 175.

Of course, you can take a Bike for +1T. But then you don't have the 3++ which is what Mephy needs.

Doomrider may never join or be joined by other units.

Hypersonic Deathbike: A bike armed with a twin linked plasmagun. Doomrider may forgo shooting
to instead turboboost up to 48 inches. If he moves in this way, enemies may only fire snapshots
at him until your next player turn (unless they have Skyfire, accounting for high-speed tracking), and
enemy charges against him will suffer a -8 modifier.
Doomrider may pass over enemy models while making this move. Any non-skimmer/flyer unit he passes over
takes d6 automatic S6 AP- hits with the Ignores Cover and Rending special rule, allocated as per shooting.

High-speed Detonation: When Doomrider is reduced to 0 wounds, his controlling player may place a flamer template
over him, facing in the direction the model is facing. Any model under this template takes an automatic s6 ap- hit
with the rending special rule. Doomrider is then removed as normal.

>therefore WHFB must have been worse

And WHFB was barely played, anon. Now, this is the part where you tell me WHFB was totally played more than 40k all over the globe and it was some evil conspiracy or some shit.

As which point I then reply it's likely a combination of things which resulted in GW ending it, from pricing, to model count, to complexity of the rules.

You'll then go "the game wasn't complex or hard, ur a retaurd xDDDddondoneone!11one".

And then I'll go "People don't understand how codexes work in 40k, do you really think they're going to have an easy time understanding a much more complex game?"

And then you either don't reply or I fall asleep and you think you've won.

So let's end this now. You're right, I'm wrong, WHFB was the best thing ever and GW are just evil Jews who did it to spite you personally or some shit I dunno, this dance has gone on for over a year now and I've had enough of trying to explain that WHFB was not popular like 40k is and the idea that GW would do what they did with AoS is unlikely, but who knows, GW aren't smart.

Not to shit on the fluff side but that's what... For maximum fluff, Dark Apostle and a shitton of Cultists? You aren't summoning shit. Honestly, it would be better to just take a varied CAD of Daemons (and go easy on the Horrors, but still stack a passable level of WCs) and then sink some points into that one respawning Cultist formation. Fluffy, can summon but can't summon to ridiculous levels.

But Sorcerers are literally shit at summoning (no psychic focus unless unmarked, perils on any doubles, mandatory +15 per model to reroll tests brings them to 75 ppm before ML+) and rogue psykers of any kind aren't in the CSM codex.

I wish I could say otherwise but if you're going that angle you would be better served fluffing a renegade Librarius Conclave as daemon-possessed (lolrandumb daemons = CtA with your Cultists) and having them do your summoning.

So my dark vengeance set came in
I only broke 3 models assembling them, so I guess that's good.
But playing some of the scenarios I have a few questions about the game.

1 - can combi-plasma guns rapid fire the plamsagun bit? It says one use (shot) but rapid fire is two shots. I don't see anything that says I can't but I wanna make sure.
2 - can my Helbrute move and fire his heavy weapon? One of the scenarios has him moving 6, and firing his multi melta right after. Does it count as snap firing or something?
How is scatter dictated in blast templates? I've seen videos where they would roll a scatter but mumble something about ballistics skill so it doesn't scatter.

Also why is plasma so fun to me? It's totally the worst choice of a special weapon due to gets hot but I just love it.
>>
>>47689550
It's a great model as well when you don't paint every second part of it red. The kannon arm is especially well detailed.
>>
>>47689597

The plasma portion of a combi-plasma is identical to a plasma gun in all ways, except it can only be fired once. Plasma guns are rapid fire weapons, ergo...

Walkers have special rules that let them do things other units can't. This includes swinging slow fists at normal speed and shooting while running.
>>
>>47689597

You subtract the firer's BS to reduce scatter inches. If BS4 shot scatters 8 inches, it gets reduced down to 4 inches.
>>
>>47689492
IIRC, no, they don't, actually.

They know the Primaris of their Chaos Discipline, but since they can only roll up to half of their powers from the Chaos Discipline (so a max of 2 total, unless specifically otherwise stated in the unit entry), they still keep their Psychic Focus in the Discipline of <Chaos God> even though they have powers from other non-Chaos Disciplines.

They essentially get the benefit of a Psychic Focus without having to follow all of the requirements other armies do, except that focus has to be in their Discipline. However, they can tack on other powers from normal Psychic Disciplines with no penalty to their Focus.
>>
>>47689597
>I only broke 3 models assembling them
How?

>can combi-plasma guns rapid fire the plamsagun bit?
Yes, you get to make one shooting attack with the combi-weapon, even if that attack makes two shots.

>can my Helbrute move and fire his heavy weapon?
It's a vehicle. Vehicles have Relentless. This means they can move, shoot (at full BS) and even assault after shooting a heavy weapon.

>How is scatter dictated in blast templates?
You subtract your BS from the scatter when you are firing directly (read: anything that isn't blindfire artillery).

> It's totally the worst choice of a special weapon
Plasma is great. It's only beaten out by grav.
>>
>>47689597

The problem isn't that they don't get Psychic Focus, it's that they get Chaos Psychic Focus, which replaces the potentially useful Psychic Focus power (Psychic Shriek comes to mind) with the god primaris that is usually mediocre if not outright terrible. Meanwhile, if you're rolling on a discipline with a fun primaris (again, Telepathy) then you have to swap a power if you really want it. Which isn't always a bad idea, but the god primaris powers are really that bad that you're often losing out on something fun.
>>
>>47689624
First two had the little bits that allow them to snap fit into the rest of the model on their arms break when I was getting them out, half my fault for not looking closer both times, but I really didn't expect them to be like dead on the bits.
Third one came off the sprue all ugly like and while trimming it down I accidentally cut through it. Going to pick up modeling glue tomorrow to fix them. I'm actually having more fun than I'd thought alone with books as terrain. I tried the little tutorial scenario, but the cultists failed their charge roll and got plasma'd the next turn, and my deathwing failed their reserve roll.
Ive yet to try cqc out but shooting is fun.
I need more dice

Wait a few months for the new models and rules to come out. The old hybrid finecast/plastic kit is fucking awful to deal with, and the current rules are fucking awful to play with.
>>
>>47689655
Yeah, I get where you're coming from, but you still basically get a free Psychic Power in a way no other army gets one.

For example, I run a ML3 Slaaneshi Sorcerer. I typically run:

Sensory Overload (automatically get because it's Primaris)

1 roll on the DoS

2 rolls on another table, usually either Telepathy or Daemonology depending on the particular opponent

Voila, four powers, and one of them automatically swapped out for either Summoning or Psychic Shriek. It works pretty well most of the time.

It can be annoying that we can't spam four powers from one single Discipline, but we do get added flexibility other armies don't, and that is something to bear in mind.
>>
>>47689703
>forced to roll on a specific, shitty table
>lose out on useful primaris powers
>somehow this is more flexible
You Uncle Tom motherfuckers are far worse than GW.
>>
>>47689703
Eh, I suppsoe Slaanesh is workable. I'm probably overly bitter because I'm a diehard Tzeentch player and see his table as a tax at best and a curse most other times. There are probably some interesting combos to be pulled off by Daemons using the same logic, though.

>>47689749
His point was more that since you're not getting a free primaris anyway you may as well spread out your rolls across tables. Not usually the best choice but it can sometimes be fun or even halfway decent not often though
>>
>>47689776
>you may as well spread out your rolls across tables
>implying we have a choice
>>
>>47689749
>Discipline of Slaanesh
>shitty

It's not super OP by any definition, but it's more than useful. Better than Pyromancy and Sanctific Daemonology (unless playing a pure-Daemons army) by a long shot.

Nurgle is "okay," if extremely army-specific (it's dangerous to horde armies, but terrible otherwise), while Tzeentch is unarguably terrible.

This system doesn't allow us to "stack" our powers from a single table like most other Psyker armies, but it also doesn't penalize us for taking from more than one discipline, which isn't nearly as brutal when you realize that most disciplines only really have about 3 powers actually worth manifesting, including the Primaris. It is less powerful, but more flexible. notice how I never said the word "better".

>>47689776

>Not usually the best choice but it can sometimes be fun or even halfway decent not often though

Eh, Psychic Shrieking a foe before hitting them with Sensory Overload almost always murderfucks an infantry unit pretty harshly when they connect. If you're running a Slaaneshi army, the Slaanesh discipline is surprisingly synergetic with the rest of the army when played correctly.

for all the shit it gets, the first 17 episodes or so of If the Emperor Had a Text To Speech Device actually do a decent enough job at explaining the fluff

though the reality is more complex than that. 40k fluff has been rewritten dozens of times by dozens of authors over and over again for the past few decades. It is hard to know what is "canon" and what isn't. What a lot of people accept, is that the uncertainty is just part of the setting, and perhaps mirrors the inaccuracies and inconsistencies within the Imperium's own historic records.

Yaaaay

I used balthasar -> nuln oil -> auric armor gold -> golden griffon dry the nuln oil kinda screwed me a bit on the wide trim on the carapace, it got a bit uneven in places and was difficult to get clean with the auric. I'm not sure how I'd do it a second go around. Probably just not be an idiot with how I applied the nuln.

But yeah I'd use balthasar for the trim.

look up "Our Weapons are Useless" in the big rule book

tl;dr: if you can't harm you opponent in assault, you automatically lose the assault and fall back, unless you are fearless, in which case you end up stuck against an unbeatable foe

so an ironclad can lock down anything s6 or less that is fearless (like space marines with krak grenades).

You can sometimes find fancy iron halos loose on eBay from kits where the halo has to be glued on by itself.

Here's muh 1850 list I'm bringing to a tourney this Saturday

I hope to win through sheer wound count and opponent irritation at my shenanigans

I know for a fact I'll win probably half of the games just because they won't be able to blow me off objectives or kill my shiny Stompa quick enough

One thing that makes this particularly nasty is that in this tourney you aren't allowed to let your LoW be more than 40% of your points (IE 740 points outta 1850)

BUT because Buzzgob's stompa is some bullshit point wise, I can drag him along for the ride, and probably not be looking at opponent titans on the table

On top of that, I'll have muh meks sitting all inside the thing to whack out any damage that might actually get through the D6 AV 12 shields

>you don't charge it to the card, you pay cash, you just have the card as a deposit

...so? if something is stolen or whatever, GW charge the card, which the parents can issue a chargeback for if they weren't there

Setting an account up is an option, however this goes back to how much the deposit would be in the event of something being stolen/intentionally broken, I'm not being unreasonable when i say thats going to be pretty high compared to the cost of renting the army for a few matches, many parents won't want to risk that deposit to be honest

1. That's assuming you go with an account agreement
2. The card holder is not the one renting the army, after the account is created nothing is stopping the child coming and renting an army with his own money and without his parents permission, that is more than a valid reason for the card issuer to allow a charge back, i know this because i've had to dispute stuff like this many times and i do accountancy for a car auction, its quite common for parents to put a deposit down as part payment for the car, then if the child doesnt pay they get mad when we keep the deposit

>Honestly, you've never had a fucking video store card when you were a fucking kid?

you seem to be under the impression that video stores are immune to chargebacks aswell, they are not, also in the past when video stores were more common it was alot harder to issue a chargeback, this is no longer the case

What I'm getting out of this FAQ is that if you modelled your drop pod with closed doors, you're the problem, because the doors *should* always be open, but you can circumvent that by WAACmodelling. (Note that its not that modelling doors closed is stronger than doors open, it's that doors open is the default and any aberration is modelling for advantage).

Also that pods should count as buildings.

thats almost certainly not what they intended, and if you analyze the question you can see that it was intentionally phrased in a way that avoided addressing that exact issue. (well that and being able to deploy from the edge of your ramps instead of the base of your droppod)
>>
>>47691430
>Honestly, you've never had a fucking video store card when you were a fucking kid?

If you analyze the fluff, you'll see that the only case a drop pod would have closed doors is if the occupants are fucking permanently trapped inside.

If GW considers the drop pod doors part of the model, unlike the doors on vehicle transports, then modeling them shut is autism. That's the ruling that GW has handed down.

You jest

And I got a job, car, and credit card all at the same time. Well, the car slightly before. But at any rate, the last time I rented a movie was long, long before my first job.

Allow 7, so you can take a commander and a full unit of Stealth Suits.

According to GW, the drop pod doors are part of the model, thereby counting for LoS, disembarking, movement, and so forth.

According to the both the fluff and common sense, the doors must be open(ed) once the pod arrives on the table from deep strike.

So, if your pod is modelled with doors shut, you're an asshole. It may or may not grant you a functional advantage, but it is modelling that affects the rules, and doors-open is the default.

>it costs them nothing to take a bunch of beat up old mini's and let kids play with them for a while.

A major point of their stores is that they use them as advertising. They dislike people useing unpainted minis because it makes the hobby look ugly and they used to have rules about this.
Also, if I'm the type of person to use shitty minis anyway why buy new ones when I can use the stores for free?

Charging people to use nicely painted armies sounds like a good idea although it puts pressure on the store to have a painted army of at least 1500 points for every 40k army.

>>47691766
you could make smaller armies for 500, 750, 1000, and 1250 point games, or just rent out units peicemeal
>>
>>47691766
I mean store painted mini's that are kinda banged up or show a bit of wear.

Don't know if anyone saw this on Facebook:

>Whoops, we got one wrong there.
For the last question on this page, the answer should be 'No'.

>Please refrain from cutting all the arms off your Apothecaries, they need them for their nartheciums.

>Q: Is it possible for an Apothecary to carry items from the Special Weapons and/or Melee Weapons lists (e.g. by a Veteran purchasing upgrades, and being subsequently upgraded to an Apothecary)?
>A: No.
