FIX A BOOK
Challenge for you, /srg/- Pick a book and fix it in as few steps as possible. I’ve got pictures of Hardy with 12-year-old Czech dickgirls, so I can get a second edition pushed through editing, but any big changes or things that are too sensible will alert the bosses that something is up. Let’s see if we can correct the whole run before they notice.
Howling Shadows
> Put in all the fucking price tables, indexed in the back
> Take away the drake ability to change cyberware magically, because it’s retarded and inconsistent with all other shifting
> Put a “Awakened From” line in the paracritter box text, so it’s immediately obvious what the base animal is and you don’t have to try and pull it from the horrendous fluff
> Give technocritters a power that lets them use their Resonance as a Limit for Matrix Actions, because as is they have huge skills but no limit due to shit mental attributes

What have you got?

And it has to be a non-paranormal critter. You probably are going to need a Body of 3 or 4, I can't see a crab having more than a Body of 1 or 2.

Fuckhueg lobster, one of the few critters to make it to Howling Shadows, pg 52. Also has a Gestalt Consciousness, so making friends with one is making friends with many.

Well, on general principle a cop now would stop you for endangering animals or some BS. Corpsec gives no shit, they'll beat your ass if they think you're trying something. Hide them under your jacket, sneak yourself in through the back, go crashing through the front door on a motorcycle and start hucking crustaceans at anything that moves, all the regular ways runners get suspicious equipment into places.

The Shapechange spell works on any voluntary subject. Critter Form too, though only into one creature.

Theoretically Crabman could turn himself and his whole party into crabs, sneak in through the airvents, and stop sustaining the spell when they're inside.

Everyone will be naked and unarmed, and the street samurai and decker will probably be dead because you can't shapeshift cyberware, but you could do it.

Maybe someday the kami will reward us for our diligent service by removing this shame from history.

So, the the GMs out there: You have a session two hours after you finish work today. You were supposed to flesh out the run that the players accepted at the end of the last session. You did not, for a number of reasons and excuses that cover the whole range from 'was legitimately busy' to 'Hearts of Iron IV.'

All you have is a framework, and an incredibly vague idea of what they're after and what they'll face. Is that enough to fly with and hope the players don't notice?
>>
>>47681739
Possibly. It depends on the kind of run, really.

Lean on some minor gang for the thing? Definitely enough.

Infiltrate a place? Possibly not, but could be.

Take ten minutes.

Write down some hook that you've wanted to use in a run (some paracritter security, some weird layout, an unusual host, whatever). Extrapolate whatever the bare bones of that needs to be (does the critter need a big lawn to run around in, etc.)

Steal liberally from whatever the players say at the table about what they think it's like. They're going to be doing legwork this session anyways, right? Just hit up the binder if you need regular stats and wing it.

When in doubt: Steal shit.
http://cityofheroes.wikia.com/wiki/The_Radio
City of heroes/villains has a ton of missions can just be lifted for ease. Like this one:

>You're listening to the radio you were told about as it plays top 40 hits from Tir na nOg, when a new announcer breaks into the middle of a song:

>'You may not know what you're hearing! You may think you're going crazy! But man-oh-man, even if you are crazy, that doesn't mean that you aren't really listening to the one true station for shadowrunner information: Radio!

>RADIO!

>RADIOOOOOOO! Free Opportunity! That's right, we are Radio Free Opportunity, home of the best information for chummers with the right inclination! We have a special dedication going out right now! According to our callers, those misfits called the Halloweeners have their hands on a hot new mystery drug that's been causing quite an outbreak over in Redmond. But what I want to know is, why should they get all the money? So, if you're listening, if you were to steal the new drug from the Halloweeners and deliver it to the drop off point out in Bellevue, that reward would be yours for the taking. Just keep an eye out for Knight Errant! They may be waiting to crash the party. Now, back to our music programming with some forgettable artist who no one will remember in a year.'

>The radio begins to play music again. You look around, but it seems as if no one else heard the announcer.

>The voice of 'Radio Free Opportunity' is quiet, but you remember what it said. If you steal the drug 'Outbreak' from the Halloweeners, then you can take it to the drop off points and take the money yourself.

Drugs, Gang hideouts, mystery about the Radio, threat of Knight Errant showing up: Easy, simple. No prepwork required.

>Hey man, I think that my company is noticing the explosives going missing around here. Can you doctor the paperwork and deal with the guys doing the investigation?

I've always wanted to run a game where the team is actually an anarchist cell, but I've got no idea where to start for doing such a thing.

>>47682304

>>
>>47682296
Well, the main issue is players.

But the other issue is how do you get a group of guys who've never met before to come together and form a cohesive anarchist cell? I'm not personally fond of starting off with a cohesive team, I like establishing the way in which everyone meets and decides that yes, they can put their lives in these other people's hands.

Tell everyone to write a background that would lead them to anarchism, working with everyone else to establish which people are part of the same Neo-A collective, who is in an anti-corp vandalism collective, etc.

All the various groups come together for a big protest/push for freedom. All the players are in the same part of that (maybe they're building barricades together, as an act of solidarity). The cops show up, as expected, but they are acting super ruthlessly, killing and crushing instead of stunning and dispersing. All the players need to work together to get out of the tear gas with their lives and go to ground in a nearby basement (the area is cordoned off too heavily to force through).

A broadcast comes in from HQ. It's the various leaders of the collectives, led by that fringe paramilitary guerrilla. They announce that the counterrevolution has begun. Everyone within LOS is now part of your new cell, a security measure to protect everyone. Contact will be re-established with each cell as it becomes safe, but for now your only directive is to fight for freedom using any means necessary.

If your players have any experience with RPGs, and aren't complete assholes, they'll recognize an obvious set-up for a party when they hear it.

Using a past history makes much more sense when you want something as supposedly tight-knit as a secret cell of anarchists, but if you don't want it there's ways to adapt.
>>
>>47682519

Here's an article on how terrorist cells work.
http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/explainer/2001/09/how_do_terrorist_cells_work.html

It basically breaks it down into 3 groups
- Planning and support cells, usually less than 10 members, who focus on things like fundraising, procuring materials and intelligence and setting up safehouses
- Execution cells, who are brought in at the last minute to use the preparations of the support cell to do whatever it is they want to do (bomb a hospital, kidnap someone, etc)
- Operation commanders, who co-ordinate between the cells, and may or may not actually be present during the attack

These divisions change (one job's execution cell may be the next job's support cell), and that doesn't include things like sleeper cells, who may be activated to do any sort of role.

So you can have an NPC assume the role of operation commander and organize the PCs according to their skills. If they're a bunch of combat monsters, they're probably going to be primarily an execution cell, called in just before the job, given whatever legwork the planning cell did, and thrown out the door. More likely they'll get to play the roles of both support and execution cell over time- one day they are planting listening devices in a park, the next they're stealing a truck full of Lone Star equipment, then they're staging a brazen arson at an MCT lab. Keep the players guessing and uncertain about why they're doing things and what the end goal is, play up the lack of information- they don't know who the bugs were supposed to record, or where that equipment ended up, or what exactly was in all those sealed crates they were told to burn.

Also, I'm probably on a watchlist now, and not even for futaporn, so you better appreciate this.
>>
>>47682757
no, that's pretty much just a meme based on exaggerations.

>>47682940
They don't. But through cultural cachet, they just default on it and its rep. So that most people can recognize that something looks ''right' with their probably one success.

Probably couldn't tell it was a knock-off unless guns got brought into the equation, though.
>>

>>
>>47682977
Not enough to get it the universal "that's OFFENSIVE" reaction that's become a meme here, anon.
>>
>>47682849
Addendum- I don't know much about anarchism (though I recommend >>47682372 read about things like the Wall Street bombings, Haymarket Affair, and other anarchist attacks in the early 20th century) but I do know that anarchists loved robbing banks.

Fighting the power doesn't pay the bills, and there's an ideologically pleasing symmetry in stealing from the rich who steal from the poor so that you may fight the rich as the poor.

Does a Drone's Strength or Agility ever come into play for skill checks?

So a great dragon and two immortal elves walk into a bar.

The bartender assenses the great dragon, and says, "Hey buddy, I don't deal with dragons. Take a hike."

The great dragon grumbles and says "I could turn this entire establishment into a crater with a single word."

"Yeah, yeah. You could, but you're not going to. Get lost."

So the dragon mutters that it's all swill anyway, and leaves.

Then the first immortal elf walks up to the bar, and the bartender assenses him, and says, "Hey buddy, didn't you hear me? I don't deal with dragons."

Pure outrage lights up the elf's face. "I didn't choose my ancestry you fuck. They're no family to me. We were slaves to them, and the first thing I did when I escaped was try to kill my father. Who the fuck are you?"

"You were literally just in the company of a dragon, drekhead. Get out of my bar."

The elf's hand goes to his sword, but after a moment, he laughs creepily and says "I've had enough to drink for one lifetime anyway", and leaves.

Right now the bartender is getting tired, but he also feels energized because he just told off two of the most powerful beings in the sixth world and isn't dead (yet). Now the second immortal elf comes up to him, and she says, "Hey. Normally I would just leave, but I came a long way and I feel like I deserve a drink. I'm second generation. That means I'm only a quarter dragon by blood. Give me a double of your best whiskey and I'll see what I can do about making your death a merciful one."

The bartender takes a good long look at her, wrinkles his nose, and says "Well missy. You may not have much dragon in your blood, but based on the smell, you've got quite a bit in you regardless."

drones use pilot rating + autosoft if the weapon is bolted on.

if the drone is wielding the weapon using a cyberarm, it uses the arm's agility which is by default equal to the drone's pilot rating (but you can increase the agility of the drones cyberlimb and use that instead).

strength is basically the same. drones by default have strength equal to their body , and you can upgrade a cyberlimb for more strength up to double (so a body 5 drone could have a strength 10 cyberarm).

Look at the damage code, then subtract the AP divided by three from it. So if it has a damage code of 10P and an AP of -3, then it does 11(10 -(-3/3)) damage on average before soak.

- Simply moving from device to device is not enough. Like a meatbag hacker, the AI must sever their connection to the Matrix entirely for a moment. An AI drops their OS score by loading themselves on a device that can accept them (their home, their meatbag partner's comlink, a drone, whatever) and forcing said device to reboot while they're safely tucked inside.

- It's a little more complicated than that.
1) As attribute, you will use Depth. Unless your drone is equipped with a cyberlimb and the task at hand (hue!) can be done with the limb only. Then you can use the limb's AGI instead. (Like a meatbag with a souped-up cyberarm does.)
2) As skill rating you can either use your own rating (AIs have skill points and can learn things on their own) + any specialization and relevant advanced program. Or an autosoft you learned/that runs from the machine you're into + relevant advanced program.
3) You can use smartlinked weapon. Your drone doesn't need any extra gear like a meatbag (it's got sensors already), but you must run the "smartsoft" program from either your core or the chassis.
4) the 'control rig' only give extra dice for Vehicle skill tests, not all tests. See with your GM what he's willing to consider as such.

Question: Can you recieve your mentor spirit before you gain your tradition?

Typically traditions dictate how you see your spirits; but I was thinking about going with the route of the mentor spirit showing up and going 'Yer a wizzard, chummer!'

That being said, what form would they take?
>>
>>47689508
Sure. A Spirit taking some interest in a freshly Awakened meatbag that has no idea what they're doing yet is perfectly possible
>>
>>47689508

Technically yes, since Mentor Spirits can teach the magical arts to a character. It's basically a story point whether you were taught the tradition by the Spirit (sharing its worldview) or whether your worldview attracted that particular spirit to teach you.

Remember that the attraction between Shaman or Mage and a Mentor Spirit is both ways - each recognizes something they appreciate in the other.

>Smartsoft is a rating 3 Autosoft
>For that much capacity, you can simply get +3 to the firearm instead of the +2 from smartlink

Am I misunderstanding drone capacity or is that correct

Is the fact it's 3 for +2 the idea that you could run it on your RCC and give multiple drones different kinds of smart guns instead of having to burn capacity on multiple guntype autosofts? (I.e, I have drones with Predators and drones with Alphas, but instead of running two separate Autosofts for those guys I can just run a single smartsoft for a bit more)

How possible is it for a spirit to merge with technology? Could tech spirits exist, or is this very much an impossibility?
>>
>>47689715
Tech and magic are highly incompatible. They are essentially invisible to each other. Sprites are about as close as you're gonna get.
>>
>>47689583
>Am I misunderstanding drone capacity or is that correct

That is correct, but the Targeting Autosoft and the Smartsoft add up. The idea is to run both.

This will be difficult on individual drones that have at very best 3 program slots. But as you surmised, that's where the RCC comes in.

>can I just run a single smartsoft for a bit more
Unclear. Rigger 5 goes to lengths to remind everyone all autosofts are drone-specific. Yet the targeting autosoft is normally weapon-specific. And a smartlink can be added to any weapon regardless.

In short, no fucking idea.
>>
>>47689715

There are plenty of Spirit types that could deal with Technology - City Spirits, Spirits of Man, Task Spirits.

Of course they will do things in a magical way, but they can deal with technology, just like there are spells that interact with tech, like physical mask and such.

What is a limit, is that Spirits cannot interact with the Matrix or Wireless links, so their interactions with technology are limited in the modern age.

Turning on the TV or changing channels like a poltergeist? No problem. Disrupting visual sensors or using illusions? Causing drones to fail by use of the Accident power? Sure.

Spirits cannot enter the matrix, download files, update your firmware or protect your stuff from intrusion by a hacker using a wireless link.

Merging with tech? Well, yes. You can prepare a vehicle for use for a familiar as a body, for example, causing it to become a sentient car. So it can be done. Will it be useful? That depends on how much use you'd have for the merged whole.
>>
>>47689744
Well

what about mechanical tech?

Simple machines, some moving parts here adn there, but nothing too complex.
>>
>>47689744
Hm. Then I'll need to find an alternative. My idea was basically that there's something trapped on Mars, and it ate EVO's Gagarin base (it transfers itself into tech, eats it up, and takes it for the hive.) It then proceeded to be discovered by an Ares station who have made a deal with it to basically let it return to Earth in exchange for helping them fuck up their competitors. (Whether either side will hold up to the bargain has yet to be seen)

I just have no idea what it should BE now. An old super AI? Aliens (though that'd mean I have no idea why they want to go to earth?)
>>
>>47689750

Another rigging question, then:

A drone can fit a number of autosofts equal to 1/2 it's device rating rounded up. Am I correct in assuming that you can only fit that total rating in there? i.e, for a drone with a device rating of 3, I can either fit 1 rating 2 Autosoft, or 2 rating 1 autosofts?

Or am I wrong and I can have 2 Rating 2's?
>>
>>47689759
C-Can you order a spirit to download the newest trid of Trolls gone wild?

Like, how does a spirit even begin to *react* to that?
"Sorry, I can't do that?"
Makes hilariously bad attempts to interact with the computer?
Brings you the server where TGW is stored?
Berates you for having shit taste?
>>
>>47689800
You can run Autosofts up to the drone's Pilot rating in each slot. Higher rating autosofts must be run from the RCC.

For instance, an Aztech Crawler (base Pilot of 4) has 2 slots (DR = Pilot, 4/2 = 2). Each slot can contain an autosoft up to rating 4.
>>
>>47689800
>>47689842
clarification: a drone's device rating is equal to its pilot rating
>>
>>47689817

Depends on the power level and intelligence of the spirit (Force).

A Force 1 Spirit would probably flop around helplessly trying to figure out what TGW even is.
At Force 3-5 it might tell you that it cannot, but it might tell you how to download it yourself. Or it might use some form of control power on your commlink to initiate the download.
At force 6 it might bring you the physical server, and likely the network security team on its heels.
At high enough Force and Intelligence it might decide to mentally control or bully a hacker into downloading it and dropping it in an anonymous file drop-off for you to pick it up.

In no circumstance could a spirit enter the wireless or matrix, so it still could not actually download it for you.

Bonus points:

"C-can download the newest trid of Trolls gone wild?" with the spirit proceding to create an illusory full-3d and LOUD representation of the entire show until you order it to stop and waste your services.
>>
>>47689777
Or maybe I could handwave it as a unique type of spirit and just go for rule of fun/cool instead of sticking to strict canon, especially since no one in the group has played Shadowrun
>>
>>47689768
The more complex it gets, the harder it is to interfere. check out the object resistance table.

>>47689777
AI/rogue sprite makes sense, aliens seems weird for Shadowrun, but you've read about what was found on Mars? Dragon skellingtons and the like? There's some solid hooks there you might be able to mine. Depending on how much you want to fuck with lore, it could even be a new type of insect spirit that can interface with tech. After all, sprites are new in this mana cycle, insects should get something new too.
>>
>>47689777

It doesn't have to be a spirit in order to be some form of mechanical consumer. If the Gagarin base was researching nanomachines, their programming could've become corrupted due to a solar storm or other cosmic effect, with the result that they start hardwiring machines and drawing all the technology together for some unfathomable programmed purpose (like creating an enormous sattelite uplink or whatever).
This also means that they are going to consume and convert technology that is required to keep people alive - tough deal, chummer.
Bonus points if the main source of the nano hive is a lead researcher whose body holds one of those nano-hives, being the only person kept alive actively by the system.

That might give the PCs a hint where to look - it's the only place with power, light and an active soycaf dispenser.
>>
>>47689777
I'd suggest homebrewing something like insect spirits, but instead of inhabiting people, they inhabit tech. It wants to go to earth for the same reason bug spirits would: more stuff to infest.
Failing that, I'd go for an AI developed by super advanced martians who were killed by the Horrors. It wishes to increase the processing power available to it, which would in turn require it to go to earth to get more power.
>>
>>47690028
I really like this idea, thanks! Also, somehow I got trips on my first post and dubs on the reply, so I am now adamant that this is a good idea
>>
>>47690028
I just got a thought. What if the lead researcher is dead in all but body? He's basically a corpse puppet being held up and used by the nanoswarm as a flesh body. Still walks, still talks, not remotely human.
>>
>>47690201
More likely trapped as a sentient soul inside a body controlled by a swarm of nanomachines. Addled with neural stimulation, he might think he's going through an average work day - drink coffee, hit buttons, have lunch, sleep - but is doing the nanomachines' work.
PCs might detect his mental activity, might see a shuffling body in a dirtied white coat, and might use spells or tech to try and snap him out of it.
Imagine his horror when he has a whole nano-hive growing out of his body.
>>
>>47690225
Don't forget when he realizes all his coworkers are in the closet waiting for their bodies to be of use to the colony

Could nanohives be reasoned with? Or are they way too alien to listen to what puny humans have to say if it's not related to completing their goal faster?
>>
>>47690252
Unless the hive somehow achieves AI-like processing power and awareness, no, they'd simpy be tools for their programming. They do what they do to achieve their goals. They cannot be reasoned with unless they somehow were programmed that way (unlikely) or somehow got awareness from consuming the base's home social computer and thus gained the ability to relate (akwardly) through that.
>>
>>47680796
Run faster.
Remove the choice of Strain II for runners.
Actually make infected fit the new fluff ( virus is changing, infected can go to frenzies when hungry, modular powers )
Remove attention who're qualities ( Tough and targeted, Wanted etc), or make them require explicit GM approval.
Put actual text explaining how shapeshifters work. Remove that silly rule of raising animal and human attributes differently .
Add lifestyle cost modifier to the naga.
Reduce the costs of SURGE I and II, make all classes ncompatible with infection.

>hive absorbs one of the crewmember's stashed Japanese porntrids
>tries to 'service' the infiltrators like all good maids do
>>
>>47690300
That sounds interesting. By the time the Runners have actually gotten through the Ares base and are preparing to head to Gagarin, it turns out that the nanohive have become intelligent and are now way too uncanny valley to allow to live, even if they're way more reasonable now (atleast with the collective info from Ares, info from the lab, and the nano remains, you could probably make a solid several mil if you marketed this shit to someone like Saeder-Krupp correctly)

>>
>>47690591
The information you are looking for is right in front of you. Eat it yourself.
>>
>>47690528
Again, depends on its programming. Nanites designed to create an information bridge would be more capable than if it was designed to create a space barge. Unless changed, nanites cannot go beyond their programming. If they become aware (so an AI swarm basically) then you might stretch this definition and they might be capable of accessing the net through wireless (cold) links. They cannot Run Hot, so they'd be basically limited to cold or text interface, to reduce lag to its minimum. Once nanites gain some form of awareness, though, they would be able to program agents and send them over, further reducing lag issues - but without ability to change based on countermeasures or unforseen circumstances.
>>
>>47690596
Very easily. You just don't broadcast the real one and broadcast the fake.

The real problem of having a genuine SIN is that there is a lot of data about you 'somewhere', and that even if your fake SIN gets accepted, the scanner could come up with a "potential match" on your real ID, which could bring you into trouble. Also, any misdeed where you leave genetic evidence (blood,...) can be backtracked to your real one provide the one doing the backtracking has access to the data.

>>
>>47690695
TO GET BY, YOU MUST RETRIEVE THE *RED* KEY. IT IS NEXT TO THE K10 BESERKER PACK.
>>
>>47690790
It's easy, because it doesn't need to be hard. Not broadcasting a SIN is bothersome enough in civilised areas.

Joe Wageslave won't go dark while he's on his wageslave business. Because if he does, he will have a police patrol on his back asking what the fuck he's doing there, why he isn't broadcasting his SIN and why he turned it off in a matter of minutes.
>>
>>47690790
Basically, it's not strictly illegal everywhere to not broadcast a SIN, but it's suspicious as hell and basically illegal in the sense that a cop that pulls you over is going to find something to charge you with for wasting their time.

And if you're in a corp and dark, good luck ever getting anything expensed while you were not broadcasting, being though of as shirking work, and so on.

how rare are alpha/beta/delta clinics and how much pull would you need to get cyberware in one. could I go to DocWagon for surgery and if so how high of a grade.

>>
>>47690915
Alphaware-grade is easy to find, even illegally in a street doc's hangout. Beta is a lot trickier, and there are only a dozen or so deltaware clinics across the world.

>could I go to DocWagon for surgery
Probably not. Their business is saving people's life, not rebuilding them.

>can Spurs be weapon foci?
Yes.

>how does critical strike work
Spurs (like all cyberarm-implanted weapons) use the Unarmed Combat skill, so you take Critical Strike for Unarmed Combat and get +1 DV with them.

>penetrating strike
Spurs get 1 extra AP per rank of the power.
>>
How would you go about creating an XCOM-style ability tree for Shadowrun?

Serious question, I need help with this.
>>
>>47691061
You'd need to class it out, first of all. Having every tree available to every player is gonna either lead to some strange-ass combinations or to new players getting angry at the complexity. Five available trees per character seems to work: Two universal ones, two based on archetype/class, and two based on race.

Another option is to do one per SKILL, with bonuses like specialisations being available. Say, in the Heavy Weapons one, you get the ability to ricochet grenades around corners at no penalty, instead of the minus four such a trick shot would give normally.
>>
>>47691119
>two based on race
Really? Race can't be nearly as mechanically important as class.
>>
>>47691141
If you go to extremes like troll or pixie, it does. Some things are just plain easier (or harder) to do when you're an over 8 feet pile of tough bone and muscle or a flying 15-inch tall Tinkerbelle.
>>
>>47691170
Fair, but can you really think of 12+ unique skills for a pixie ability tree?
It'd be simpler to have race affect stats only and leave the ability trees for class or weapon type stuff.
>>
>>47690902
>>47690873
>>47690790
Basically, Joe wageslave has disincentive to turn their shit off. When they're in a private area or have reason to not want to be bothered, however, they will run silent. This prevents them being bothered by conversation, ads, etc - contrary to being seen as slacking, it can be seen as focusing. (possibly even on work)
>>
>>47690915
You can walk into a corp clinic and find most non restricted alpha ware available off the shelf. Beta usually requires registration. Delta is 'tens of places in the world' rare, and has to be built custom while you're being operated on.
>>
>>47691262
Honestly, for Joe Wage it's better to just put up an ARO that says 'napping/concentrating do not disturb' and attach it to their persona.

That way they're not taking a -2 penalty for no real gain unless a runner team has just gotten in 100m of 'em.

Because all the in house personae can still see the guy and taking a hide action isn't an option for most wageslaves.
>>
>>47691141
I originally was gonna say five and forgot to not change that to one based on race, but as >>47691170 said, I can see why the unusual races might have two. Maybe have a sixth empty slot that you can, if you're not one of the odd races, put one from another archetype's list into. So, if you were a human decker and street sams had "Guns" and "Melee", you could take the "Guns" tree and be a decker that could shoot.

I was about to snatch that tree, but now I'm conflicted.
I'm going to be using this skill tree system for some Shadowrun newbies, how can I make Razorgirl/Ronin/Gunbunny more immediately comprehensible?
And how do I minimize overlap between the Samurai trees and the weapon type trees?
>>
Gonna share my campaign building details for some possible corrections and advice.

Trying to set up a Redmond story, where party will be inexperienced and getting into the world of shadowrunning per se. First task they'll be getting is to teach some random gangers a lesson because they broke into one of his apartments and stole some memorabilia. Then is goes uphill with a mission or two of small-scale office / research hub assault. Then a local night club dancer needs their help because her acquaintance because her friend is addicted to BTL and is being held on some gang's territory don't judge me, this mission was nice in SR:R.

Eventually the party will come into confrontation with gang X, one way or another. BBEG I have in mind is gang's warboss who died on his trip to SSH and got possessed by a master shedim (not sure the scale isn't too high here tho). So he coup d'etat's leadership and starts to expand his business, eventually aiming to conduct a large-scale astral rift ritual at an abandoned stadium on the turf; the final run will be infiltration and assasination, and if party fails Metroplex guard or some megacorp will just bomb all drek out of the place.

The hard part I'm getting is to create lots of believable NPC who will be possible to relate to. And all in all, compared to D&D amount of details is way bigger.

Starting rules I'm going with are sum to 10, magic and resources no higher than C, physadepts with no higher than 4 magic, magicians with no higher than 3. Availability 10, starting lifestyle capped at Low. 'fraid 120k money as C priority won't already be looking too street-y in game, but still researching setting's economy to build a more vivid picture, etc.

These things really helped:

The first character to get turned down is Lofwyr, a full Greater Dragon, because the barman doesn't want to deal with dragons.

The second character to get turned down, Har'Lea'Quinn is an immortal elf (read: a half-dragon, the result of a dragon and an elf going at it). See above, barman wants nothing to do with dragons and their get.

The third one protests that (unlike the other immortal elf) she's but the daughter of two immortal elves and has no direct link to dragons, nor does she wants anything to do with them. Since she's the current paramour/fucktoy/... of aforementioned 'half-dragon', the barman tells her she has "more dragon in her than she thinks". Geddit?

Bear in mind that I have no idea how X-COM works, whether you are trying to use this just to explain archetypes or whether you plan some unholy homebrew.

But assuming the former, you could explain it through qualities.

>The Razorgirl gets qualities like Adrenaline Surge, Pain Resistance, Daredevil, and Uncouth. They're fast, they're loud, they'll pick a fight because they love fighting, they're D&D barbarians.

>The Ronin gets things like Guts, Perceptive, and Code of Honour. They're reserved, careful, have specific rules that they follow, but they're driven and trustworthy, and if they take a job they'll get it done hell or high water. They're D&D paladins.

>The Gunbunny gets Hawk Eye, Jack of All Trades, Black Market Pipeline, and Emotional Attachment. They've got all the gear for any task, and if they can bring the tools to bear they can wipe the floor with most anyone. They're D&D classic fighters, or blaster casters for you kids.

>>47693278
It was meant as a counterpoint. Faces confront people socially and get what they need that way. Infiltration (what I meant to change Stealth to) get into places physically and get what they need that way. Surveillance doesn't confront anyone - they quietly shuffle things around and do the legwork so that they get all that they need without anyone knowing they were involved.

I'm planning an unholy homebrew. The combat plays identically to XCOM but the setting is Shadowrun, essentially. Some of the trees will mostly be composed of XCOM-style abilities, while the rest will be original Shadowrun abilities.

Not just that, but Docwagon has its own lines of ware and its own medical research.

People need to remember a big AA is still big. It might not be diversified like a AAA, which has a finger in every pot, but a big AA is akin to something like today's Google or Amazon or Bayer. And they make use of that extraterritoriality too.
>>
>>47694611
> It might not be diversified like a AAA

Not even that. The difference between an AA and a AAA is a seat on the corporate court.

>>47694708
Offically, and in some cases of relatively small AAAs (Horizon) and relatively large AAs (Universal Omnitech, Proteus AG, Monobe, Zeta-ImpChem) it may be accurate, but most AAs are more narrowly focused than most AAAs. To get AA you need to have a strong multinational presence, but you don't necessarily have to diversify into all the industries that AAAs have a toe in, thanks to their Court seat given them leverage in decisions like who can get a monopoly where and who can buy out how much of another corp.

Most AAs, like the Atlantean Foundation, Lone Star, DocWagon, Lockheed, and Ford focus on doing one thing (or one network of related things, like medical care, policing and incarceration, or making planes) and doing it well internationally. They diversify a bit, but they still have a core industry they focus on.

They are ok and seem pretty knowledgeable about the flaws of the game.
Their editing is definitely better and what I've heard in a workshop at a convention was promising.
They plan to release a new Germany in the Shadows book soon, don't know if that will ever be translated, though.
I've talked with the chick that is in charge of Shadowrun stuff for Pegasus in Germany and she seemed very dedicated and shared my frustrations about the abysmal editing of CGL, so at least German Anons can hope.
Can't remember everything about that talk because I've had quite a few meads by then.
Positive impression tho.

They don't have original RPGs, they have some tabletops and card games.
They're known for Cthulhu, SR and Munchkin here.

There are qualities for representing insanities, and at that point is up to the GM to enforce proper roleplay.

Though I would love a rule that says, upon infection, you roll 1d6. Anything but a 6, your character goes irrevocably insane and is immediately removed from player control.

And that anyone who tries to build a non-ghoul infected at chargen has all their dice taken away for a period not less than sixty (60) days.

I'm launching a shadowrun actual play podcast in the near future (probably Septemberish). We're lucky in that one of our players is a professional sound designer for film, so he's gonna be taking our audio and adding in background ambiance, some music, sound effects, the works. We got to thinking the other day, wouldn't it be great to have some advertisements for megacorps and products in the podcast, to help break up the show a little and cut between scenes?

I'm writing some of these ads myself, but if any of you have a clever idea for a radio ad for something in world, we might record it and add it to the podcast (and have a separate mp3 if you want to use them in your own games!). These could be for anything, movies, guns, commlinks, grids, games, Docwagon, Nerps, Lonestar contracts/crime hotlines, whatever you can think of.

According to the 6th World Almanac, there is something called the Scandinavian Union so I guess Sweden is a part of that. Nothing in this book about this Union though. There are perhaps more infos in Shadows of Europe?

Actually I have and it does give some flesh around the bones, but my Finnish pride requires more. More opportunities for Nordic runners
>>47699732
Shadows of Europe has Sweden and Scandi stuff.

Silly thing is that in Shadows of Europe Erika basically owns and rules Finland. We know that Erika merged and became NeoNET so one AAA corp literally governs a nation.
>>
>>47699943
Yep, good old Aztechnology.

Wait, you weren't talking about them?[/Bad Joke]
>>
>>47700047
Aztechnology is kinda different due to the power gap between Atzlan and Finland. Atzlan is big enough to do running or similar stuff there, but 1984 on crack Finland, not so much.
>>
>>47699943
>>47700047
There's also Nam, where the communist goverment took one look at the extraterritoriality rules and instantly declared themselves to be a corp so they could annex neighboring nations just by buying land.

do cyber torso have attributes?
if I have 2 cyber arms and legs at the same stats do I average between the 4 or add my natural in
what about if I have a cyber torso do I average with the torso included and the stats it has if any
>>
>>47700772
>do cyber torso have attributes?
Depends on whether you classify them as cyber limbs. The book is slightly sketchy on that, but most ignore the book being less than certain, and say 'yes'.
>>
>>47700772
I say Cybertorsos count as Cyberlimbs. The only real advantage of augmenting a Cybertorso with Strength and Agi is to boost your body's average.
>>
>>47701352
What would you need an agility or strength score on those for
>>
>>47701987
Also they're not limbs anyway

5e, page 455
>Cyberskulls and –torsos are included in the “cyberlimbs”
category, though they are in fact shells rather
than full replacements (or actual limbs).

The North Sea is a toxic cesspit. Sweden has become the world leader in clean energy and it's government is one of the most corp-hostile in Europe. The regulations on pollution are borderline fanatic. They heavily favor local corps to the point that they have an entire subdivision of the military dedicated to protecting them.
>>
>>47686099
I want this.

I got out a copy of Shadows of Europe and the fact that a swedish special ops squad can drop on your head if you target the wrong corp is amazing.

4e, Karmagen, 750 Karma, Free Knowledge Skills + Free Contacts.

Character was an animal trainer in Sweden before his bio-corp made the decision to focus on bio-drones rather than trained animals, since it was cheaper than the years-long process of combat training an alpha and his pack.

Took his severance pay and started his own security firm, pay-by-the-hour corpsec.

I've got sixty-ish karma unspent, and I'm not sure what to blow it on. Is there anything I missed (Aside from ammo for the taser, which I just caught), or any suggestions what to buy to round out the character?

Is there a way to heal stun damage? Or at least convert stun into physical?
I'd like to play a heavily armored, unarmed adept, but stun will murder the hell out of me.

At least with physical, I can punch it off.

Also it pairs great with Empathetic healing. You can pull off allies damage and punch it into your enemies.

I don't know how the Pain Editor works in 5e but back in 4e it would let you fill up your stun bar but stay conscious, so that all future stun rolled over into physical damage.

It'd work -very- well for someone who's all about pain and transfering his wounds around from himself and his allies into enemies.
>>
>>47705085
The same in 5e. While active, it also grants you one extra Willpower at the cost of one Intuition.

So grab Prototype Transhuman, Restricted Gear, Pain Editor, Pie Iesu Domine, and Adept/Mystic Adept with Transmit Damage, and Empathic Healing. Pick a tradition that's not intuition based and be a holy flagellant Pain Adept.

Backstory can be secret church experiment out of Amazonia near the Christ the Redeemer tesla coil, or something.
>>
>>47704420
>>47705363

Didn't In Debt also give you physical damage?
>>
>>47705490
Fits with the above as well - You got hit by the Christ the Redeemer tesla coil, awakened due to massive trauma from the electrical shock, and damaged the coil with thaumic feedback or some shit. The In Debt is what you have to pay to fix the damned thing, and the damage from that and Pie Iesu Domine is your pennance for hurting an image of the Lord Almighty.
>>
>>47705559
The statue nukes anyone who gets near it, I'm not sure how anyone would ever be able to get near enough to fix it.
>>
>>47705490
In Debt is a good way of affording the bioware you want to start with, too.

The one issue I think is hitting hard enough with unarmed attacks assuming you go mage-heavy on this character to actually get rid of your damage stacks in combat.

Though, Hilariously, the Transmit Damage says 'Target' rather than 'enemy', so as written you can punch a wall or beat a heavy bag to heal with it.

Was there a rule for trading nuyen to karma and karma to nuyen or was I imagining things?
>>
>>47682093
That's pretty fraggin wiz, chummer. 10/10 for the suggestion.
>>
>>47708296
At chargen you can exchange up to 10 karma, each point granting you 2000 nuyen.

Missions and some GM allow exchange at the same rate (in one or both ways) during play, but it isn't universal.
>>
>>47708330
Gotcha. Was there a suggestion price for post char creation?
>>
>>47708363
No, the rate is the same:

1 Karma <=> 2000 Nuyen
>>
>>47708141
A strong case can be made for pretty much any special attribute type to spend one point of essence on 'ware.

And that case only gets stronger as the available grade goes up.

Could a human male impregnate a female troll? What do the books say about interspecies sex, if anything?

Yes, and the child will be either troll or human. No half trolls in shadowrun

Yes

It happens. Quite often, probably.

No. You are a pure metatype (or a metavariant), no mixed expressions.
>>

no, I want to use spells to turn into animals and back

Unless you had some really strange surgeries done to you. But in that case, it means that you look strange pretty much everywhere and get strange looks anywhere you can be seen.

But that's not expressing as a mixed metatype. That's expressing as a pure metatype, then getting surgeries to change your physical appearance to something else.

Does lofwyr have a goal besides growing his hoard/wealth and all the things related to that?

He has a vested interest in keeping the Horrors out. But he does that discreetly.

All dragons have goals beyond personal wealth and power, otherwise they would be predictable and (relatively) easy to manipulate. However since dragons perceive reality different from others (and Great Dragons moreso) good luck understanding their motivations.

>Also, I'm probably on a watchlist now,

You know, when I'm writing a cyberpunk campaign, I worry about how all this traffic looks to someone on the other end of a monitor.

People have been busted for googling how to murder someone prior to someone getting murdered. All that really has to happen is one of my plot-lines veering too close to reality, and then it happening within proximity to myself. BAM, instant suspect.
>>
>>47710895
>So does everyone

Definitely, but Lofwyr (and the other great dragons, and some of the immortal elves) was there to give them the boot in the fourth world. He knows what the stakes are.
