Working on my new mantis flake from a few threads back. I have no idea what kind of cards to give him or what deck mechanic he should use. Ideas? Thoughts?

Also, that anon who wanted to do some team-ups with this guy, let me hear from ya.
>>
>>47667134
Is it? Regardless of why she did it she caused a horrible amount of pain to Avacyn and her entire plane, a friendly reminder for you that Avacyn has killed angels for things far, far less horrible than this.
>>
>>47667134

The avacynian church isn't big on forgiveness beyond giving the werewolves a chance to live something like normal lives. I like to imagine she did at least lay Mikeus back to rest.

Of course, as we have seen, not all the werewolves were grateful for Avacyn giving the ones who wanted to stop being murderbeasts a second chance, but that's neither here nor there.
>>
>>47667557
There's no real room for forgiveness in a world like that, the humans of Innistrad are horrible and constantly work cause their own problems. Justice needs to be dealt swiftly to those who upset the balance else order could never be kept, how else could a plane full of so many horrors and so many different groups of asshole survive this long? Avacyn is just but harsh and Nahiri has upset the balance immensely, I have no doubt that if she was alive and knew what we did she'd kill Nahiri herself.

Nice try though>>47667134
>>
>>47667693
What do we know for sure.
>>
>>47667160
Mantis people are by default just "insect" creature type, and green has the most of them. Not to say you can't do it in blue, just that it's going to be, like, real hard.
>>
>>47667887
We know that regardless of her intentions or reasons Nahiri did this to Innistrad and I see no evidence that she's been corrupted by anything. She did this of her own volition to get revenge on Sorin, Avacyn would definitely kill her for this there's no way she wouldn't, Avacyn genuinely cares for and enjoys protecting the humans and Nahiri made her kill them.

Also, I hope you get the theme of the character.
>>
>>47667982
And Angels are naturally white. Doesn't mean we don't have black ones. And really, if it's sentient and became a planeswalker, then it could just have a mentality to have an affinity to blue.
>>
>>47668007
>Increased planeswalker abilities
ehhhh, nowadays planeswalkers only be default have the ability to walk, all other bells and whistles were removed during the mending, so if the curse is boosting anything, it'd have to be something other than his ability to walk. You could probably just replace "planeswalker" with "untapped magical power" or something to get the same effect though.
>>
>>47668091
It's not boosting anything besides being able to planeswalk with a group. It's reacting to his spark and giving him additional abilities. So, really it's the curse itself being boosted by his spark.
>>
>>47668074
nono, I'm not trying to dissuade the color, just giving him a head's up. I will stand by dissuading the creature type though, insect. A claim could be made for nagas being more snake than kamigawa's snakes, but even mark has admitted this is a questionable call. Change the race, but it's fine otherwise, they just happened to choose hardmode for building something that fits both their narrative and race.
>>
>>47668137
not sure why those would interact, but fuck it, fair enough
>>
>>47668150
>>47668074
just to clarify, I wasn't calling you insect, I was stating what the race should be.
>>
>>47668180
I know what you were meaning. So, no worries.
>>
>>47667982
Ok, I'll add an insect subscript on its race type.

As for the color identity, I was originally going to make it UG, but the more I thought about its personality and actions, I just didn't see green there at all. So monoblue for now.
>>
>>47668247
At least you have innistrad for secret bees, but what kind of cards are you actually looking for in your character?
There are a bunch of gain/pursue knowledge cards out there, but those are all pretty bland on their own, what you visualize your flake using most often spell-wise?
>>
>>47668007
>The Dread Pirate
I can't stop hearing "THE DREAD PIRATE ROBERTS TAKES NO SURVIVORS"
>>
>>47668345
Prisoners. But, yes. I'm happy that you caught the theme.
>>
>>47668296
Hmmm, probably illusions. Mind tricks, mostly. And telepathy. So all or almost all mental-based abilities. I'll start looking at some cards and get some ideas.
>>
>>47668363
Sheeet my bad.

It's been too long. I should watch that movie tonight.
>>
>>47668389
Such a great movie. You have no idea how happy I am that you caught onto the theme of the character. It's like finding someone who knows about something that was such a treasured part of my youth.
>>
>>47668007
I like it. It's like having an interplanar Flying Dutchman.
>>
>>47668007
No.
>>
>>47668652
Heh. I love the old actual lore of the Flying Durchman, but yes that was the idea.
>>
>>47668681
Don't provide criticism. If you don't like that guy's snowflakes, just don't comment on them.

It's a lost cause. Just ignore it and if you can't, leave the thread and let this project's horrid half-life drag on without your presence.
>>
>>47668719
You're a fucking asshat, you know that? I've always taken criticism well and do often make changes when need be. Just look at my last flake. Why do you act like this? It's like you live just to be an asshat to people who share the same interests that you do. Also, you tossed in a lot of bitching in response to an anon who simply said "no".
>>
>>47668719
I know it's useless to say anything, but it feels like if you aren't following the rules, then what's the fucking point?
>>
>>47668786
Ok, who were your other flakes. My problem is the taking others on a trip through the blind eternities.

>>
>>47668877
Yeah, I'm curious, too.

Don't spare the juicy details.
>>
>>47668796
I don't get it either but at this point, everyone else has just accepted him as a part of the 'community' and if you criticize any of the snowflakes he makes, you're the troublemaker and the rule-breaker, not him.

So all you can do is ignore him and accept him like everyone else or leave. Saying anything about him will just get you accused of being a troll.
>>
>>47668796
Go ahead and pick my flake apart. I'd like to hear your concerns. This far, I feel like you don't like the fact that he can do things that no one else can, right? And if so, I just wanted to make something more fantasy based in the theme of the Magic universe to represent old pirate themes. And I didn't want it to just be a rehashing of some other set's guidelines.

Don't waste your time with it. He'll just cite examples from fifteen years ago and pretend that the Mending never happened and that the rules haven't changed.

Just don't bother. He makes the rules of his daily snowflakes and no one else does.
>>
>>47668897
Again, you are crying about something that I just said is false. I got heavy criticism for my flake Miyja and I changed her accordingly to what was pointed out.

Speaking of mantis anon...

Here's the updated sheet. Yay? Nay?
>>
>>47669901
The people who make a big deal about summoning duplicates of "legendaries" are pretty caught up on the concept that a legendary creature is somehow more powerful than a non-legendary creature. Or that legendary even exists in the lore what so ever. Literally every single creature in MtG is legendary. In card wise, Legendary is a summon that particularly summons a specific individual, while non-legendary can be any individual of that type.

Which that's not how it works in lore as there is literally no difference.
For instance:

Non-legendary summon: I summon a Elf Ranger. Jim the 1/1 Elf Ranger appears.

Legendary summon: I summon Jim the Elf Ranger. Jim the 1/1 Elf Ranger appears.

That's literally the difference between legendary and non-legendary. If you are making a duplicate of something, you don't need to have some special bond with it, or have gotten to know it intimately. You just have to know what it is and understand how summoning works.
>>
>>47669901
Jesus, please don't bring up this topic. Don't even talk about the topic. Don't respond to anyone making any arguments. There are no faux-pas, there are no disagreements. Everyone, no matter what they believe, is absolutely 100% right about whatever they're talking about. Please don't discuss this because it's just a massive fucking waste of time for everyone and just gives the troll another reason to rant and rave.

The Snowflake Ball final 1/2
Belloski had managed to perch on top of the hotel when Dyna wasn't looking and was watching as his grand hall collapsed from a distance. ā€œWell that was a shitshow,ā€ Albin said, perched next to the manlet dragon.
ā€œNot entirely,ā€ Belloski grinned and he watched people climb out from the windows before the hall collapsed in on itself, ā€œI had that hall insured, and you got to play hero, and we got a friend.ā€ Albin let Rock go from one of his claws. ā€œSuch hostility, just remember who saved your life,ā€ he laughed a little after the pause, ā€œyes, your life isn't the bargaining chip I need it seems. What about, his life?ā€ He pointed with a claw to the squawking cock in front of the building. ā€œThat's what I thought. Albin, return him to his friend.ā€
ā€œYes sir,ā€ Albin said and picked Rock up.
ā€œMake sure it looks like you came from the ruins.ā€ Belloski added as the aven flew off.
Albin flew low until he was behind the ruins before coming up over them and flying over to Razorcock, dropping Rock off at a safe distance. ā€œIs that everyone out of the building?ā€ he asked.
ā€œRock, holy shit!ā€ Razorcock ran over, hugging his partner with both his wings. ā€œI thought I lost you man!ā€

Early in the morning DIOMEDES opened his eyes, he was in a very fine bed and alone. ā€œWhat, what's happening?ā€ His armor, loincloth, and spear cast aside. The last thing he remembered was talking to Gaia before everything got fuzzy. ā€œGAIA?ā€ He called out getting out of the bed, walking naked over to the window before looking to take in the rest of the room. ā€œANYONE?ā€
Gaia stuck her head out of the bathroom ā€œAre you still here?ā€ She asked, clothed in his undershirt.
ā€œGAIA... WHAT HAPPENED?ā€ DIOMEDES asked, very confused.
ā€œLooks like you're good with more than one kind of spear,ā€ she grinned, ā€œfucking later, Dio.ā€ With that, she planeswalked away and Diomedes was left in the room, alone except for all the questions.

May I propose a marriage alliance between Snowflake threads and the currently dead Adversary general?

Specifically, if you want to play MTG matches using your custom snowflake, Adversary is an established and functional way to do it. One of the flakes in your OP already has an Adversary card from a long while back.
>>
>>47675914
*gasps*! We should make a small handful of flake crew members for The Lady Death. Maybe if we can get four other anons to make pirate-flakes and have team of five main crew members

>>
>>47676358
>turning a specialized thread for lore into a general thread for a game mode is a stupid idea.
To be clear, I'm not suggesting that one idea should cannibalize the other. I'm just saying that you might have fun creating custom cards for your Flakes and possibly using them in matches, since our interests seem to align. We certainly enjoyed it back when Adversary was being played regularly, and we didn't even have characters to be invested in at the time.

And for the record, Adversary dying is mostly my fault since I started slacking and even stopped posting the general. There were some issues with not having enough players, though.
>>
>>47676334
Ka'-kun here, I don't make any cards but am ok with the merger happening if it increases the longevity of both.
This may also mean a departure of flakes from the lore thread, seeing as we'd be taking the flake characteristic to a more creative-oriented thread. But, I suppose that's what some people wanted, so no harm done?

Which would be great if every group that's not humans or normal angels doesn't have "let's gang up on the humans" as job 1.

Even the humans gang up on THEMSELVES. Arlinn is nuts if she thinks taking angels out of the equation results in anything but human extinction one year later.

How do you determine what cards your character would use?
Is it just cards you think are neat or should they fit your walker's theme (if they have one)? Is there a limit?
>>
>>47679478
when I was designing Iosha and Nishal, I asked myself "if they were getting into a fight, what woul they do?"

and then I found spells that do what I thought they would do, and used those spells. I also set myself the limit of only modern cards, because I really dislike the way legacy cards look. There's no limit to the amount of cards you use, but it's best to not use too many because then people stop reading them. use enough to get your point across, not enough to make a deck.
>>
>>47679397
To be fair, they were managing with that until Edgar Markov made vampires
>>
>>47679655

Hence why I'm like 90% sure Demons engineered the existence of vampires as an attempt to force human extinction.

They can't BOTH survive without Sorin's constant meddling.
>>
>>47679697
Demons only started having more of a presence once Avacyn drove the more mundane evils back.
>>
>>47679511
HM I may have to cut my list down some then; so far I've been compiling two lists about their magic. Stuff that involves what their magic is and then stuff I think they should be able to do with it.

Out of curiosity what sort of cards do you think would work well for an illusionist/aether mage?
>>
>>47679478
I go with theme, other people go with whatever deck they think is cool at the time, whether it fits the character or not.
>>
>>47679478
There are two methods to doing this, you can pick cards that fit the theme and colors of the character, or you can create a character around a theme of cards.

Either way, the cards and character should fit in theme.
>>
>>47679904
Name a flake that doesn't fit their cards. I'd like to see this.

>>47679478
I can only speak for one character here, but I gave Murdock cards I think fit with her background of learning magic on Kamigawa and creatures based on the small paeriod she spend on Shadowmoor that I think go wel along her character's personaility and the rest of the spells.

I don't know what the problem is with having normal angels, we already have Boros and we don't need Innistrad's angels going mad and Avacyn becoming Aurellia 2.0. Innistrad's angels were genuinely interesting and diverse which is why it's so frustrating to see a block where they only feature as mindless murderers and get butchered en masse.

>>47682618

It's simple
Think up a set of words that fit your character
Go to an online thesaurus
get all variants of those words
plug them into Getherer's Advanced Search with "or" rather than "and"
then pick your favorites from the long list that follows.

For creatures I usually decide what creature types work best for the character, then search through all creature with those types and pick the best fits.

updates on the ball story: I haven't done any writing because of moving bullshit, but I've been thinking about what I plan on doing. The thought process is going pretty well, but not a lot of it has gone down on any media.

Also: 1)fuck the reserved list, it's greatly outlived its function and is now more detrimental than anything to legacy and standard formats and 2)mana weaving is fine unless you're being a cuck and comboweaving. then you're ruining it for everyone.

The best box to buy and definitely get your money back is Shadows Over Innistrad. The set that probably has the most powerhouse cards in it though, probably New Phyrexia. Karn, Swords, Praetors, Chancellors, Phyrexian Obliterator, Wurmcoil Engine, Spellskite, Caged Sun, Mental Mistep, Sergical Extraction, Phyrexian Metamorph. Shit is such a cash cow. But, a box is pretty expensive.
>>
>>47691200
You 'weave' mana into your deck, you basically place one land then one card and so forth to make sure you're always hitting drops without getting flooded. Basically it becomes Hearthstone.
>>
>>47689139
Hmm...
Vronak wouldn't go out of his way much. He'd do damn near anything to keep them all alive. But, other than that, not much else.

Emir is a bit selfish at times. But, I think he'd put a team before himself if he were with them for a while.

ƍreth would probably do anything for anyone that didn't treat her poorly.

Zulkaz would do anything he was paid to do as long as it doesn't get him killed.

Raioh is kind of the same way as Zulkaz, just more likeable becsuse he's not a smartass and more prone to attachment.

Graveborn is technically already dead. So, he can't die for anyone. But, he's a pirate. He'll kill for his crew, and he'll let someone else die for his crew. Fuck everyone else.

Everyother flake wouldn't get along with teammates.
>>
>>47691314
That's so fucking dumb. I understand spreading cards up prior to shuffling after a long match that brought out most of your lands, but doing that shit all the time just because is seriously cheating. I'd shuffle a fucker's deck properly if they did that during a tournament when they asked me to cut their deck.
>>
>>47691386
Generally, you're supposed to shuffle your deck again afterwards. It's just a way to keep your mana from clumping after a long game.
>>
>>47691434
As long as you shuffle it properly afterwords, then fine. If you shuffle a deck seven times with a standard shuffle, it's supposed to be completely random.
>>
>>47691480
Emphasis on "supposed to". It doesn't always work like that. This is a way to ensure that your mana isn't clumped, because no one likes drawing 4 lands in a row. Seriously, in a casual setting I don't understand people's problems with it.
>>
>>47691521
In casual, everything should be lenient anyways. But, I can see in a tournament someone doing that shit being a no-no if they don't shuffle properly afterwords.

Also, what are your thoughts on riffle shuffling?

I personally hate it because I've seen what prolonged use does to cards. And I won't let anyone at a tournament riffle shuffle my deck.

It is not jsut that she is compeltely insane, ridiculously bent on vengeance and acts much like an edgy (and I hate to use this word but fuck it) teen with cosmic powers. It is not that she levels Sorin's homeworld in a petty revenge, but when she meets Nissa, the nazi-elf idiot that unleashed the Eldrazi, Nahiri greets her and helps her out too.
It is that they want us to think she is an antihero. One of the good guys, deep inside. Just how.

I miss kamigawa.
>>
>>47697082
Note that WotC is yet to depict Nahiri as a good guy yet and they've done nothing to indicate that we're meant to treat her like a hero. All of this is just a bunch of alt-right fear-mongering from people who think that the plot is going to mysteriously transform into feminist propaganda out of nowhere.

There is literally nothing to suggest that WotC is trying to depict Nahiri as a protagonist.

Vronak-chan here. Personally, I don't want to see anything bad to Nahiri. She's been through a lot and I understand where her vengeance comes from. She was basically raised by Sorin, he was her mentor and she looked up to him. After she did everything he wanted her to, bringing the Eldrazi to Zendikar when she didn't want to risk her home, even staying in her plane without Sorin and locking herself away in hibernation, sacrificing her chance to live any kind of life, only to have the Eldrazi return and Sorin nowhere to be found. They were all supposed to return to help seal them away again if they ever got free. But, Sorin never returned for her or her plane. Ugin didn't because he was killed. But, Sorin didn't all because he wanted to irradiate his own kind and couldn't feel the Eldrazi escaping after he created Avacyn. And now, she returns with her home scorched to an ashy crisp, only to find out that Sorin has been doing absolutely nothing productive. And that the reason he even created Avacyn and sacrificed her plane's well being, the problem with the vampires, and they are still alive? I think to her, Sorin gave up on her and her home for something he didn't even bother to achieve. Like her and her home were so insignificant to him that he put a task that he felt "ehh, I'll get to it whenever I get to it" above herself. She feels betrayed. She feels unimportant. She feels... Abandoned.

I don't think any of those three or four guy swas trying to drag politics and feminism in this man. I do think though, they are making Nahiri come out as "yes she's being a dick to people but you know what, they had it coming, also she's W and W is good right?". I don't follow the lore much but it seems to me they kinda stopped making straight out villanous characters in other colors than black and red really. Yeah NPh had a white bad guy (or well, girl. Sorta) but every color had one or more big bad guy in it. Heliod came out as an asshole but with the whole "gods can't be judged by mortal morals" thing. Jacetigue League has no black member and the one that should have been in instead got into a fight with them. Dunno, I kinda miss the time when color did not identify you as good or bad and we could have an "hero" team up of Toshi Umezawa, Kiku and Marrow-Gnawer against the blue Mochi and white Konda.
>>47697316
... case in point.
"I feel abandoned, lets' kill everyone on this fucking plane instead of even stopping to ask a few questions".
Regardless of taste, it is a very poor plot hook. I can't take a story like this seriously!
>>
>>47697403
Point out where they've done that so far. All we've seen of Nahiri is her ranting and raving about Sorin on a handful of cards and Gisa chattering about her new friend and how helpful she is.

There's absolutely nothing to indicate that they're trying to show her off as a good guy when they've all but confirmed that she's responsible for all of the shit occurring on Innistrad. I have no idea where you're getting that vibe from.
>>
>>47697403

I really feel like they were pretty overt that "gods can't be judged by mortal morals" is Heliod's perspective, not the flavor department's, that Norn is the face of New Phyrexia after defeating the Black and Red Phyrexians, and that Nahiri is going completely psycho.

Dromoka and Ojutai are also very recent examples of rather malevolent characters who are white.

Well reading around the lore stuff she's always kinda presented as "getting vengeance on sorin because he ruined her plane" honeslty. Look, it is not like I can't be wrong. As it can be wrong the other guy that said it before me. That was just the feeling I am getting.
>>47697573

>>
>>47697403
Vronak-chan here.
You have to understand that not everyone who is enraged makes a lot of sense. I'm saying that I understand where she is coming from. Not that she is justified or is doing what is right. I don't see her as a hero or an anti-hero at all. She is an outright villain. Doesn't mean I want to see her die in the stories. Let me put it this way, I feel about her akin to how I feel about Vicious in Cowboy Bebop.
>>
>>47697606
Vronak-chan here.... You know what? Fuck it. I'm tripfagging.

>>
>>47697669

>>
>>47697628
Vicious was the thing I liked the least about Bebop. Really came out as one dimensional. I assume the comics did a better job at getting his point through because in the series I did not really see it.
>>
>>47697606
That's her motivation in her own eyes. Her plane's died and she blames Sorin and because she's vengeful and spiteful, she's doing the same to his plane. She's effectively destroying an entire plane out of vengeance against one person.

She has motivation but no one's saying that her motivation justifies her to be a genocidal bitch. But denying that she has any motivation at all does nothing. She's obviously not thinking logically about this and is treating Innistrad and is definitely insane. Some people could even say that she has a good reason to seek vengeance but the way she's going about it is so completely batshit crazy and has so much collateral damage that she's obviously not meant to be a good guy.

Sorin could have stopped Nahiri from throwing a fit by agreeing to check out Zendikar and actually saying sorry for not being there to help her protect her world like he promised. That would have kept her from lashing out at him and would have meant that he wouldn't have a reason to Helvault her.
At the same time, although Nahiri has every reason to be angry at Sorin for his indirect responsibility for what happened to her plane (by preventing her from being able to protect it when he Helvaulted her), she's completely unjustified in going full-genocidal-bitch and luring the Eldritch Moon to Innistrad.

>tl;dr - Sorin's an anti-heroic asshole, Nahiri's a villainous bitch, if they even tried to get along with one another for two seconds, none of this would have happened. There's absolutely no way WotC's trying to make Nahiri look like the good guy in this.
>>

You have to see it from Vicious' view point. He grew up very anti-social and a sociopath. He never trusted anyone. Ever. And then one day while he was in the Army, he met Spike. Spike was constantly trying to get Vicious to lighten up and befriend him. And when Spike saved Vicious' life in battle, Vicious finally felt that he could trust Spike. Spike was the first person Vicious considered friend. And after the war the two continued to have eachother's backs and joined the Red Dragon Syndicate. And one day, Vicious met a girl that he fell in love with. Someone who didn't see him as a cold hearted monster due to his anti-social tendencies. And Hulia became his lover. He found a second person in his life that he could trust. And as we both know, that was not how it ended. He found out that the only two people in existence that he trusted, betrayed him. They had an affair with one another and then abandoned him. The last bit of trust and compassion that Vicious had inside of him died that day.

>locking herself away in hibernation, sacrificing her chance to live any kind of life
A few things. First, Nahiri went into hibernation because she was bored and tired of living. So she had a chance at life. But she was tired and bored of it, so she went to sleep. It was her own choice, which had nothing to do with anyone else.

>he wanted to eradicate his own kind
He didn't want to eradicate them at all, though. The main reason why he made Avacyn was to protect Innistrad from threats, both foreign and domestic. In fact, he specifically made her in such a way that she could NOT eradicate the vampires of Innistrad. He wanted to shield and balance his plane, not destroy vampires.

Her actions are in no way forgivable, and she is just as much of an arrogant child as anyone in this story. She is just as much in the wrong as Sorin. In fact, by now I'd argue she's even more in the wrong, because she is actively trying to kill a plane. Whereas Sorin's previous neglect of Zendikar was not intentional, but a side-effect of him trying to shield his own plane from external threats. And even then, he came 1000 years later to try and save Zendikar. He was almost successful, too, if it weren't for the ELF. And then he went to find Ugin to enlist his help against the Eldrazi.

Has Nahiri had it rough? Sure. Could she have been more mature about it 1000 years ago? Sure. Could Sorin have been less of a dick when he was hungover, instead of just telling her to fuck off? You betcha.

But that in no way justifies murdering Innistrad and gutting one of the more interesting planes in this game.
>>
>>47697628
Yeah, well Avacyn was even more enraged and had literally done nothing to deserve death before hand. But thanks to cunt mcgee here, she's gone.

So I hope Nahiri gets her hear ripped out.

4 of the 6 charges were valid before Avacyn went into the helvault.
>avacyn and her church have killed countless vampires, werewolves, and humans.
I hope we can agree that this is par for the course.
>the church exploited the poor and lied to the people.
"Because of the lack of physical safety, the poor spend a larger portion of their income of enchantments and non-physical means of protection. Tithing is required for everyone, and the church charges a small fee for every blessing and spell. Even at unstaffed little altars, payment is expected, and many of the faithful diligently pay even when there is no one to enforce it. Not unexpectedly, there is resentment among some for the amount of money required of the poor to uphold their faith. This resentment increases dramatically as the effectiveness of the Avacynian blessings diminish." Pwalker's guide to Innistrad and it was mentioned in The Lunarch's Journal that they knew of Avacyn's origin and where she went and deliberately kept it secret.
>the church is responsible for the prevalence of demons and devils on Innistrad
Part of Avacyn and the church being a thing was that the darkness was pushed back enough that something worse took its place.
>the church has a wall dedicated to executing vampires in the cruelest way possible.
"Bloodless Wall. When vampires are caught, they are chained to this wall and left to starve to death." this is from the Walls of Thraben section of Pwalker's guide to Innistrad
>the church, under no influence from Nahiri, is responsible for a bloody inquisition because of the corruption so deeply ingrained in it
Yes, Avacyn going crazy and the madness of Innistrad did start the inquisition, but as the Pwalker's guide to Innistrad pointed out in the introduction concerning the Skirsdag, "This secret organization has human members in all levels of the church, nobility, and the trades."
>the church has known demon worshippers at its head.

Nahiri's action seems odd, since in her last story, she even speculates Sorin may not have responded because like her, living forever has left him adrift in life and he succumbed to the apathy that led her to hibernate in stone (admittedly, Nahiri lived a long, full life prior to this, but after a long time didn't see the point in trying to live with the mortal Kor).

Hell, when she goes out to look for him, she's looking forward to trying to show him there's still a lot of living to do and he shouldn't give up on life.

As it turns out when she gets to him, Sorin HAS been out of it for a long time, but more because he used up a ton of his power creating Innistrad's protections than apathy. It seems odd that Nahiri was more concerned for Sorin than angry about him not answering the call to arms in her last story and then in this story has zero forgiveness for Sorin accidentally protecting his plane so thoroughly he couldn't be alerted and doesn't give a fuck about what's up with her clearly drained friend.
>>
>>47702086
He also responds to her by saying "I don't owe you anything." when she asked him to come to Zendikar and check on the lock with her.

I think the pirate crew idea was terrible because of the whole post mending not being able to take large things with you.
That said, say the Pirate Crew is an organization like the gatewatch wouldn't be too bad (except for the fact that it's all for a book reference)
but that's just me.

Yeah, like.. The biggest problem here is that large things aren't so easy to pull with you anymore, and you can't transport other beings through the Blind Eternities; only Planeswalkers could survive the trip.

Probably some of the other 4+colored flakes/devoid flakes or Vornak with his unlimited legends works or whatever.

Graveborn isn't able to planeswalk with the ship on his own. It's a side affect the curse is having on his Spark. As I see it, he is able to extend his curse to other objects and people. Effectively making them all apart of himself. And in conjunction with his spark being amplified, he can take them all with him.

>>47707023
Vronak isn't powerful as much as versatile. I'd say the most powerful Planeswalkers are Gaia and Des' Kurokami. But, I think she only made him for her snowflake epic. So, expect to see him dying at the end of it.
>>
>>47707597
Why is that? Planeswalkers, Eldrazi, and planes themselves exist in the Blomd Eternities without being dissolved into nothingness. Is a planeswalker making a ship and crew apart of himself, extending his power and abilities to them really so hard to believe? I like to think of it like Cable & Deadpool. When Cable's blood was mixed with Deadpool's blood, when Cable teleported, Deadpool was forced to teleport with Cable. Willingly or not.
>>
>>47707597
The way I see it, this is a flake thread. So even though we try to stick to the rules of the game and the multiverse, some of those rules are pretty vague to begin with. So with a decent enough explanation and some suspension of belief, I can tolerate more minor lore infractions. And having a Flying Dutchman in the multiverse sounds metal as fuck.
>>

>>
>>47707824
And thank you, Gaia-chan. I'm glad that you are fond of the concept. Were you going to be making an Inigo themed pirate flake for the crew?
>>
>>47707656
Are we really using characters created by the most talentless of hacks as an example? Do we really want to refer to Cable in any positive way?
>>
>>47707883
What's wrong with Cable? I think he's had some great story arcs with Deadpool and Hope.
>>
>>47707907
And I think you need to read better comics then Marvel, honestly.
>>
>>47707656
Because it took some power for even old walkers to do that iirc, and then thanks to this curse he can somehow do that.
>>47707824
And I'm sorry, but I don't feel the way and it is compounded by the fact that people are expanding this lore breaking ship for the sake of book references.
He can summon the ideal of his ship and his crew being an organization akin to the gatewatch is so much more palatable than what we have now and it's effectively the same thing,
>>
>>47707875
I will, yeah. I'm just waiting for inspiration to strike.

And salty sea tales were some of my favorites as a kid. Two of my favorite books were the Sea Wolf and Castaways of the Flying Dutchman. So having a salty crew of seadogs sounds a-ok to me.
>>
>>47707939
I do. Most of the comics I own are graphic novels from DC. Second to that is all the trade-paperback volumes of The Walking Dead.

>>47707956
And thanks to random "because I said so curses", we have a Demon planeswalker, a near-oldwalker level Liliana, a planeswalker going around killing other Planeswalkers like it's nothing, and a we still don't know if Granny Sengir lost her planeswalker abilities. And because of strange unknown reasons, we have a dragon walker creating a plane post-mending. The lore is full of "because I said so" contradictions.

>>47708104
Heh. Good to hear. I don't think anyone else is going to make profiles for the others, do you want to make one for Fezzik as well or any of the others? And I'll make profiles for the rest that you don't.

>>47708334
Of course, since you only read clearly american mainstream comics. Keep in mind that mainstream in the comics business is not a pejorative, it means aimed to the biggest part of the readers. You should really go for some classics, or at least new but good stuff like Hellboy or Prophet.
>>
>>47708265
>>47708334
honestly, when it comes to "quality comic content" I ignore what most people go on about. Comics are printed monthly. They're pulp. Granted there are a few exceptions, but it's not something that should be read and scrutinized as a pinnacle of the artistic form. I read shit series understanding that they're not supposed to be great, just something to make me go "this is neat, I like this."

>>47708365
what's a good point in Hellboy to start reading? I've wanted to start that series for a long time but I never have.
>>
>>47708365
I wouldn't call The Maxx as mainstream. Good stuff though. But, I have a long list of trade-paperbacks that I need to get. Like Saga, Lost Girls, Origins, Severed, Empowered!, Y the Last Man, and Fables.
>>
>>47708384
Lately they have done some sort of recap series that covers a specific kind of stories in each volume. A lot of the short stories can be read as one shots, however you should start with Seed of Destruction and Wake the Devil and keep in mind that Wild Hunt marks the beginning of the ending arc.
>>
>>47708441
I absolutely hate how empowered is drawn. Being that drawing is the part of the job i take care of, I tend to think of drawings of the story. Find yourself a copy of Battle Chasers, instead. Saga is cool though it has a problem that 4/5 of american comics have, that is an absolute disregard of the panels' background.
>>
>>47708468
>more of drawing rather than of

>>
>>47708468
I can understand not liking the artistic style of Empowered!, but that is just their choice in style. Not everything can be Fables. But, I actually hear great things about Empowered! from people who have read it. So, I'm willing to give it a try. And I do plan on picking up Battle Chasers one day. I'm not too keen on some of it's art choices either. But, that won't stop me from keeping an open mind for the story.
>>
>>47708524
I hope you seriously don't read that stuff for the story, I mean I have piles of comics books that I copied the dawings from but never read. If you really want to read a good story go for Sin Cott or Hellboy. Or actually grow out of your american safety zone and read Borderline or Corto Maltese. If you have the guts just pick up french BD, even the most mainstream stuff like Long John Silver, Prophet, Okko or Elias the Cursed. Story ranges from decent upward, and the art is solid gold.
