CS possessed lack absolutely any kind of bite, so while they're slightly more likely to get into melee (And even that's not guaranteed), they also have a tendency to do things like lose melee against a mob of shoota boys that they charged.

As a new IG player I have been thinking about getting some Scions and with this new box even more so.

Does anyone play them with their IG?

I think some specialists showing up and taking side objectives would be pretty cool.

Right now I have 20 Vets in 2 Chimeras, a Tank Commander with friend both Demolishers (though I think I want to try different variants), a Basilisk and 2 Wyvern.

It sits just about 1000 points total

It's possible if somewhat unlikely. Like >>47664766 said the Space Marines did their own thing at the time. Vandire was sort of popular when he removed the old corrupt Ecclesiarch, so they could have supported him in the beginning. They could believe that Vandire was a great ruler that was demonized by his enemies (which is certainly possible), or they still follow the Tendency's version of the creed and no one bothered to correct them.
>>
>>47665234
There would be very easy way to fix possesed:

>WS4 BS4 S5 T4 W2 I5 A2 LD10 Sv3+/5++

There. 2w and no point cost raise. Fearless T4/2w units with ++ are very annoying to get rid of if you arent spamming S8 and targeting them all at the unit.

Would it make them OP? No. Would it make them quite decent and worth the points? Absolutely

I've used my scions beside a list similar to that. It works well and has good synergy when they run around with the vets.

I mean I said it was useful and it is certainly helpful but multiple times I have hit my opponent with a full Salvo of 9 grav shots, took off a single hull point and/or immobilized it. For transports it is a really big thing but using on back field artillery is mostly just an annoyance for them.
>>

In the UK it is common to find stores where you have to pay to play, be that a monthly membership, or something else. Hell even paying just to get in the door
The best possible way to avoid doing this, because, the store employees and owner is there for business, not to suck anyones dick, they need to feed their families or themselves. Is to buy something from them anytime you come in to play, even if its something cheap, try to make some small purchase
Or, worse case scenario, because everyones going in to play and not pay for anything, the store can't afford their bills and goes out of business.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lL5x0gkYgKQ
>>47659498
Most stores won't give a shit about where you get your stuff from, some do, and they make it clear don't talk about it. But those stores are few and far between. If someone asks me where i got my thing i'll either say "game workshop" or "ebay" let them figure it out from there
If you don't buy anything from your local store at all, why are you even there, it costs them money to even exist, you could at least pay them back with SOMETHING hell even a can of paint or something. See video above

>>47659578
A single computer and a warehouse is all you need to sell online. Hell only one or two people can handle hundreds of purchases

As far as I know, some Tau battlesuits work with a neural interface like that jack in the Matrix. It would be one of the main reasons battlesuits are so agile, because they interface directly with a Tau brain. I remember there was a blurb about sometimes if a suit's arm gets ripped off, the pilot feels as if someone ripped off their own physical arm.

Even if that's not the case, I doubt it would be difficult to recreate or to make up a replacement. It's kindof like how great prosthetics work in real life. It'll never be flesh and bone, but it can be something almost as good and you'll make do just fine. In some cases (like foot attachments for mountain climbing) even better.
>>
>>47665241

What new box do you speak of?
>>
>>47666042
Just because the model is discontinued, does not mean the old rules are null and void. GW themselves have specifically said in their FAQ that models use the latest rules. So the Raven will use the current rules until it's updated.

FW also removed the Baracuda from sale, only to bring it back 4 months later or so as a new design.

>Tau produce battlesuits.

Which aren't gigantic machines with their own personalities, to the point the personality of the machine can and will overpower the mind of the person piloting it, and require their pieces to be built in a specific manner with certain sanctifications in order to ensure they fit and work properly.

The Tau don't understand how Machine-Spirits work, and that has on more than one occasion bitten them in the ass. They can produce their own copies of Imperial tech, but the larger the scale the less "true" it is to the original design.
>>
>>47665516

Most of the Heavy (ie. non- Ordnance) Russes are worthwhile, provided you kit them out right and have something for them to chew on.

Scions are about as dead as Vets in Assault. We're IG, our options to win assaults are a) Drown them in bodies, or b) Set up the fight so it ends in their assault phase and we can shoot them some. That said, Scions have done well for me by contesting backfield armor (w/ melta) and some campers (Artillery don't use the gun's T in CC, and can't shoot if they're locked...). It's the usual thing - they die the moment someone looks at them funny, but if you do them right they'll end up making their points back before then.
>>
>>47666330
why wouldn't they? If anything they'd be more likely due to the whole dwindling race schtick. Everyone must be able to fight at full strength.

When Mars went Nuclear against the rebelling robutts by releasing super-mega-neverfuckingreleasethisholyshit-viruses nearly all the code on Mars got fucked to a completely unrecognisable state. There is a remnant of this code in pretty much everything the Mechanicum makes now as they don't make new shit(with a few exceptions), they just find old code from the deadly depths of Mars or other places. It's why reciting certain prayers makes lasguns slightly less shitty and why Wyverns are angry as fuck. Of course Chaos fuckery on Mars made the situation even worse so there is also daemon infected code.

>>47666386

Except they do though? While the strength of a Machine Spirit varies considerably from machine to machine, they most certainly do exist in the 40K universe. There are multiple, canon cases of machines either acting of their own accord or displaying behavior that suggests independent thought/action besides what a machine is expected to do (the Land Raider that fought a battle with no crew being a good example).

As a general rule, the more complex the machine, the "greater" the Machine Spirit it has. While Lasguns are pretty much "normal" machines, at the macro scale of things like Titans and Starships Machine Spirits aren't just a thing, but may actually be full-blown AI's in their own right (the latter is typical only on the largest starships, however, and generally a carefully-guarded secret if it's even known in the first place). Part of the reason certain starship classes (like the based Slaughter Cruiser) have fallen to Chaos is because of an innate flaw in their Machine-Spirits that make them very vulnerable to Chaotic Corruption.

It's a thing whether you like it or not, anon.

And some of this code can be analyzed, deciphered, and purged by Tau engineers that actually understand what code is.

Mechanicum has as much understanding of the stuff they build as the druids or mayans knew about celestial motions. They knew it got cold when the sun was in a certain place of sky, and knew that it was warmer where it was somewhere else. They built great calendars to track the movements. Relatively, their shit was neat. They also had a lot of prayer and superstition to explain it. They didn't know what gravity was, or that the earth was round and tilted towards the Sun in Summer, and away in Winter. Comets were omens, not balls of ice.

AdMech knows that if you say a prayer and flick a switch and then say another prayer and flick another switch, a thing might turn on, but Tau know what an actual start-up sequence is. If it doesn't start, AdMech might think they used the wrong candles or didn't praise the machine enough, but Tau would know that a part is faulty and needs replacing. And it's the same with the AI programs. Imperium AIs go bonkers after a time, and need to actually be placated, but Tau could just wipe it and write a new one.

All that said, the original question I suppose depends on the Knight and the Pilot.

>>
>>47667181
GW is trying to move all of its manufacturing to an entirely different process that requires different parts and materials to do. Even with 3D printing becoming more affordable, Industrial grade 3D printing on the scale GW needs to roll out a new line is expensive. It's still relatively inefficient on liquid plastics. But once all the machines and logistics are in place, it should be a lot easier to reconfigure a line for a new pattern of sprue.

The old method required swapping hard plates and generating moulds by hand. Now they just need to plop in a new 3D model into a computer and the line should be printing different minis.

Once that's in place, it'll be easy to make new kits.

>>
>>47667446

bikes are a little bit bigger, but you could. You just need to remove more of the foam insert things. For instance, for my librarian, since he is bigger I removed 2 more of the inserts. And I tested it with a chaos bike. It fits width wise.

The thing is that you can just order the bike specific foam. Check out their site. It's a little confusing at first, but they have literally everything for each army.

Looks real cool. What I did cause I'm a poorfag is I have this deep picnic cooler bag. I got a big foam slab, like the ones they use for beds, and I cut it into slabs that fit the bag. I cut custom holes to fit my models correctly and then I created a bottom by PVAing one of those cheap foam camping mats to the back. Result is basically army-specific custom trays I can mix and match as I please and my bag can hold about 4 or 5.

Large models and vehicles can be a pain in the dick but magnetizing and pinning works wonders.

It depends entirely on your meta.

I enjoy my Dark Angels and since I am in a Loyalist (See: Space Marine) dominated play group we are all fairly balanced against each other.

When I play the lesser codexes (codexi?) it is really easy to tone down my list and for against the few tryhards I attempt to play against I attempt the full cheese.

For 1000-2000 I have multiple builds available and already written out/saved on Battlescribe.

You are as "That Guy" as you choose to be, and that can be said about any army.

Codices is the plural of codex.

Fellow CSM players, I won't talk about powerlevel, but I want to ask you a question.

You think CSM would be FUNNER to play if you could field more shit? The fact that playing CSM is quite boring cause you do jack shit and have no real synergy between any unit aside, I find I can't even have fun with the "field cool shit" aspect because even at 2K I'm fielding a low amount of models and nowhere near enough of the stuff I like.

You know how you pick a legion or warband, write them fluff, convert shit and paint to fit the theme and your army looks really good together as a coherent force? I can't seem to do that. I have to leave half the shit at home and it really bugs me and kills the mood.
>>
>>47667886
If your having some fun you could give them all combi-gravs and put them with your HQ, keep the apothecary and drop the champ. Kit the HQ out for assault and see what standards Vanilla marines have available to them then put them in a drop pod and use it to aggressively contest objectives.

A battlesuit list is still fun provided you only use stealthsuits with maybe a single Ghostkeel as a centerpiece. Any other suit is unfortunately quite strong and if you spam them you'll realize you will steamroll most people without even meaning to.

But there are units that aren't suits in the codex and foot infantry is fun and viable. You just need actual strategy.

>FUNNER to play if you could field more shit

Oldfag reporting.

The reason CM are a punching bag list today is, we got the nom to be the first codex to be formatted in Jervis Johnson's trademark dumbed-dow- er, "streamlined" look back when he and Alessio and Gav were trying to figure out what that new format was going to look like. Unfortunately, the next dex after ours was the SM dex and the negative response to Codex: Dry As Toast meant that the scripture for the Chosen People could be NOTHING like the bloody, amateur gelding C:CSM got. The pendulum swung so hard the other way that CM are today nothing at all like SM and "streamlining" was largely abandoned. Well, okay. Live and learn, I guess. Except they didn't learn. They never learn. The last vestige of JJ's "streamlining" brainstorm is the bizarre manner in which dexes are all now written twice with redundant "unit flavour text" filling the first half of the book, and then repeating all the unit types in the latter half with their points included.

Anyway, instead of getting our armoury back and our Legions back and our non-generic daemons back in the next edition of the CM dex, GW just gave us "Gavdex 2 - Craptastic Boogaloo (Now with 100% more dinobot and goatsebird!)" tl;dr:

Yes, when written in the full three dimensions - instead of just one - any faction becomes more satisfying to play.

>fun is what you make it
>depends who you play with

I agree, but I will say that 40k is definitely a hamstring to fun. The balance is really bad; but the ruleset itself is getting worse too. Formations, super-heavys everywhere, game breaking psychic powers. Its a lot tougher for two players to have fun playing 40k, than HH, or Infinity, or Kill Team, etc.

I play a ton of "Free to play" games, this games survive by having poor people play for free and then some "white whales" who have a lot of money that buy constantly cosmetic shit or pay2win items, usually this "white whales" are never more than 5-10% of the bulk of the players. The premium players need a bunch of peasant level players to also play the game so they can brag with the rest of the community how overpowered/beautiful they are/look, and the free players need white whales to keep buying shit so the game won't shut down. As long as you can have enough white whales throwing money at the game the game survives, so this games lifespan is somewhat short when investors start seeing less income and think their money is better spent elsewhere the game dies.

You guys extrapolate the situation like buying 1 marines box online is going to make the difference between the owner eating lettuce sandwiches and his son going to college. The difference will be from him making I don't know 5k vs 8k a month after expenses, sometimes it's just "another business" to them, they just hire teenagers or autist fatguys to run the store and come once in a while to get money out of the cashier, it's not their beloved wargamming store it's just one more of their business.

There's a symbiotic relationship, players need stores, but stores also need players, if people just go to an empty store they'll be less likely to come back again to buy overpriced kits they could get cheaper online even with shipping, and if the stores charged money to play or hang out new people would be less likely to even step at the store.

As someone said previously, it's not our fault the internet is making things easier/cheaper, the stores need to adapt to the current times and find a way to keep attracting people and yet match prices with online retailers somehow. Just like they have to deal with second hand market, some business buy and selll used minis to resell and make a profit out of it.

I think 30k is for people that started into the hobby as a teenager and now have so much disposable income they can buy overpriced stuff and don't give a shit. It's certainly not for everyone, but the problem is how it makes the community even smaller and the prices ostracize and create an elitist niche that will hardly grow but will keep a small stable community of fatguys sperging over their ultra expensive resin (I wish I was one of them).

Four way. Custom scenario. The twist was the objectives were unstable plasma generators. In our foolishness we gave them a ripped shooting attack with Haywire that targeted whoever was holding it.

Fuckers took out a LR, Riptide and finished off a Knight before the game ended. We decided the armies weren't fighting each other, they were fighting to seize and destroy the plasma.

So without being a WAAC faggot what would be the best set up for a Death Company Squad against Nurgle CSM and Daemons? I have an extreme urge to throw a thunder hammer on at least one of them and I'll figure out what to arm the rest with once I know what parts the squad comes with but what's a combination of fun and usefullness? Worst case scenario if they're too powerful I'll just not use them and save them until my friend one up's me on something else. This is a rough list of what I'm up against.
Also we haven't yet taken to the skies or gotten transports so right now it's mainly infantry vs infantry. I want this squad to be a surprise like "oh and btw, I got a little something new for this game" and I just whip them out instead of a tactical squad or termies.

>havent looked into DC
Nigga what are you doing they are literally the best unit we got.
also on the more helpful side you wanna probably give 4 of them bolters and just chainswords or maybe a powerfist and the other one you want to give a power sword and bolt pistol it tends to be the best loadout for them at all.
>>
Why can't Inquisitors take stormshields? Is the option just mistakenly not listed (since it's in the armoury, just for 20 points, which is pointless for an acolyte)?
>>
>>47671646
So bolt pistols and chainswords for 4, power sword and bolt pistol for one? I guess I should ask, since bolt pistols count as CCW in melee does that mean they pistol whip a nigga and attack with their chainsword? I'm going to reread how having a melee weapon in each hand works as I find it kind of confusing. They have A 2 so they attack twice.. but if they hold a melee in each hand they... get +1 attack? So is that 4 attacks or 3? They also have rage so... fuck it, let's say I charge with this squad. How many attacks does a Death Company model get using a bolt pistol and a chainsword?
>>
Do you guys keep track of how many units each of your squads has eliminated through all time?

A normal DC model will get 5 attacks with a bolt pistol and chainsword. I recommend that you give them just ordinary bolters instead as they will be able to shoot them in rapid fire range and charge with them in the same turn. also thunderhammers are not really worth it unless your friend has many multiwound models or anything that can survive instant death.

Also I haven't read anywhere that you can charge with Rapid Fire weapons, I thought Relentless only allowed Heavy, Salvo, and Ordnance weapons to be fired after moving... I mean I guess that makes sense. So 4 bolters, and 1 with a power sword and a bolt pistol?

thats the usual way that i run them as it seems to work the best if you want to throw a powerfist on one of them it wouldnt be bad but i would keep him with a bolter. Two problems: One is your Heavy Support Leman Russes. Don't squadron them, take them separately. You have the heavy support slots to do so and without a tank commander all three tanks will always have to fire at one target. That can be overkill sometimes and by taking them as three seperate squadrons you can either target three different units or focus on one unit as need be.

The first advantage of squadrons is that you get to take more tanks for a given number of heavy support slots (not useful if you only have three tanks and three empty HS slots and no artillery or AA). The second advantage is that allocated wounds must go to the nearest tank in the squadron, so you can have wounded or more important tanks hide behind stronger or more disposable tanks. That's why the Tank Commander gets an escort tank: It's a bodyguard/wound absorber.

If your tanks are all equally valuble, you should take them separately and fill out all three Heavy support slots.

2nd: Need more troops. 20 guys is just not enough. At least one more squad. Otherwise the enemy will focus down any troops on the points and suddenly your a vehicle-only army with no objective secured units. Enemies can melee you tanks to death, take objectives your tanks were occupying away from you, and deep strike right next to your vehicles without any infantry screens to block their shots. More dudes will make you more flexible. They don't ALL need a chimera, either. Some can footslog to protect the tanks or sit on objectives on your side of the board and not move.
>>
How do I go about shooting an executioner? It's 3 blasts with 3 inch plates. Do I roll gets hot 3 times and scatter 3 times? If I roll multiple scatters, do I scatter from the original firing position for the 2nd and 3rd shots or do I scatter from the new spots?
>>
Would tank squadrons be better if they were allowed to fire at different targets?
>>
>>47671873
If something is too expensive and you just want to play with friends, why don't you proxy most shit? It's not like anyone is going to care you didn't buy a $150 model and use a base with a printed face on it or something.

I mean they probably wouldn't spend $600 on minis if they didn't know if they liked the game, if they actually try it out they might get into it and start buying little buy little, if they're real friends and get into it you can actually pool models and just lend them to each other when needed since you're just going to play together.

Wow! You can wreck one land raider if you hit it with six special weapons?!
>>
>>47672043
the restrictions on squadrons are on reason I don't like the idea of giving them split fire based.

There should be additional benefits for squadron, because the move to formations etc means the benefit of not taking of force org slots is minor, and the downside of movement and spilling over hits is bits.
But squadrons having to shoot together feels more right to me. At least for their big guns.

However I think they should bring back the S5 or. less category for vehicle weapons, and let those split fire base.

Deredeo Dreadnought with the War on Murder Legacy of Glory. It can kill a flying daemon prince in a single round of shooting, and similarly destroy nearly every flyer in the entire game.

It also has a great advantage over other anti-air units in that it can target and molest ground units as well.
>>
>>47672043

For that matter, the different guns aught to be able to target separate units. I mean, each gun is controlled by a different person or computer, so each should be able to target a different unit. Whereas a monstrous creature is controlled by a single mind and thus should only be able to fire at one thing (just try hitting two targets with two guns at the same time; not easy!)

Well it's a not long story but it basically goes like this. My friend used to have some old Warhammer models, we discussed how we'd like to get in to it again, I got drunk as shit and was like "guess what I just ordered, buddy. A BLOOD ANGEL BATTLEFORCE, IT'S GOING DOWN NIGGER!" but at the time my friend didn't really have anything he could use as an army... so we decided to split the Dark Vengeance starter kit. We were going to more or less leave it at that until we got some paint but he got an extreme desire to get Nurgle daemons and bought the Daemons of Nurgle starter kit and just recently a (8mm, lol) Great Unclean One. Yesterday I got drunk as shit again and asked /tg/ what to get next, ya'll suggested a Death Company, and bam, bought it off amazon. The more I read about the Death Company the more I love it so I'm quite excited about this squad since, other than the furioso, it's a true blue Blood Angel only unit.
