The problem is, nobody plays this format around. Going to beg my friends to build one also.

Build two decks from cards you already have and try to get someone to play duel. After that, do it with other people. You're bound to get 3-4 guys on it.

I decided it's time I put together a new deck, and I wanted to go with Orzhov colors, and I wanted to make the theme be about life and death, and taxing other players. Does anyone have any experience with a Black/White deck? I'm not sure if I like the Ghost Council that much, so I think I'll look for a better commander.

Most of my lists are budget till you add the landbase, the game seems cripplingly bad using only basics, guildgates and lifelands
>mfw
>>
>>47652146

I feel like I get on just fine using only basics and lands that come in untapped but are still budget like pain lands, check lands, and the new bfz and shadows over innistrad duals

It's great because the new bfz duals that check for basics are kind of terrible in an optimized manabase but they get more powerful the more basics you run and generally the cheaper your mana base

I know he runs armageddon in it but even I feel uneasy running less than 35 land.
>>
>>47651866

Fucking hell. I've been wanting to run that fucker as my commander for fucking ever.

Also, Viskopa Guild Mage. If in could run that bitch as a regular commander, I would be so happy. In fact, I played my PEDH deck with Viz at the head in a real EDH game once and damn near killed everyone.
>>
>>47652415

I run 35 land in every deck, I've found that if I go lower I have too many openers with 1 or less lands, and if I go closer to 40, I flood too often

I also run no less than 8 and no more than 15 ramp effects, it depends on what the deck wants to do
>>
I run 38 land + about 3 mana rocks is most decks, in cheaty decks like jhoira and mayael ill run 36-37, in pretty much every deck that runs green or white ill jave about 5-6 cards that destroy artifacts/enhantments just to kill off t1 or 2 mana rocks if my opponent, knowing they kept a hand based on getting to use their mana rocks then destroying them before they get any use out of them can be crippling
>>
>>47652415
Personally I think CMC is the most important thing. There are great spells that cost 2 or 1 mana, and Timmy's never gonna get to Timmytown with a mana cost of like 5 or 6 on every nonland card

My decks usually round out around 3.5. One costs on average around 4.5, but it's Zirilan so I can poop out Dragons for 3
>>
>>47651541
Fuckin' Brago, so much value.
>>
>>47652639

Yeah, take your avg cmc and then adjust it based on what you do in game, if you're running a reanimator deck, think of your 7 and 8 drop creatures as 1-4 drop reanimating spells in terms of their effect on your mana curve
>>
How should I try to use Diaochan? She looks super interesting but outside of going to edhrec and copying whats there I have no idea how to build her, any advice/secret tech?

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/marchesa-counters-combos-1/

Here's what I can up with: an amalgamation of a couple different combos and synergies. It feels like it's trying to do "too much", and I'm sacrificing or relying too much on Marchesa's built-in protection.

I'm looking to streamline before I commit to any purchases/trades. Budget's not really an issue, though have a back-up recommendation if you suggest anything over $80.

Most of the combos and synergies are listed in the tappedout link, but I'll be going through it to add more soon

My meta is pretty ruthless, if you dont have at least some sort of board presence by turn 3 the others will pounce on the weak like lions, if your t1 or t2 play is countered or destroyed you are pretty much out of the game or at least taken to the point where you cant recover and are an easy pick later in the game, we only have 1 Timmy and he playes alot of 1 and 2 drops now along with his krakens

Do you guys think Godsend is worth running in EDH? That +3/+3 is nice, but I don't think that exile ability would work all that well. I don't think it even works on the commander if it gets send to the command zone instead of exile.

>>47653262

Well yeah obviously exile effects don't work on commanders, doesn't make exile effects bad

If you mean that you don't expect to exile many creatures with godsend, that's accurate, people will simply choose not to block your godsend creature if they don't have a creature they are willing to throw into exile

And they won't attack if they aren't willing to exile their best attacker (or their best one that can be blocked by your suited up creature)

It's a decently powerful card but there are better equipment cards out there, there are some cheeky combos with it though, vigilance is excellent with godsend, and an effect like Indrik umbra (it exists on a couple other cards I believe) is obviously pretty awesome with it but also magical Christmas land
>>
>>47653272
We do play wraths but you dont always draw one opening hand every game
>>
>>47653368

If you don't draw a wrath (or a tutor for a wrath, or some other effect that stops aggro like ghostly prison) by turn 5-6 (whenever it is that these aggro decks are killing you), then you don't run enough wraths (and other antiaggro measures)

Yeah man I mean basically I run a toolbox list with a birthing pod chain. The majority of the deck is etb creatures and I believe I run 46 creatures and 37 lands to make sure I hit a creature every mill. The Zombies are more or less just to block, and build defence while I mill myself and reanimate fatties. Mill cards like Hedron Crab, Nyx Weaver, and Dreamborn muse can dump thing like a praetor (which I run all 3), Avenger of Zendikar, and Woodfall primus. I run a pretty even chain heavy on dorks then etb creatures to make the pod top notch.

Hope this helps a little

I don't want to run Mimeoplasm anymore. It left a very bad taste in my mouth and I'm pretty bitter.

I recently picked up a Uril, but three colour decks are kind of iffy in my opinion after this fiasco. Maybe something B/W or B/G would be neat, but I wouldn't mind sticking to something like W/B cantrips. Hell, I'd even be okay with something monocoloured.

Sorry I misread, my decks are pic related. Lists for the better decks:
http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/15-03-15-ghave-guru-of-counters/
http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/be-advised/
http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/31-01-15-wonderful-wizards/

I'll just go over what was wrong with your Mimeoplasm deck rather than giving you a list of cards to cut/add:
You went a little too deep on the +1/+1 counters aspect of his ability. Generally the more broken decks like this just pick a massive creature + one with broken abilities and call it a day. Instead of using cards like Mycoloth and Kalonian Hydra you use Death's Shadow and Phyrexian Dreadnaught to buff his P/T while gaining the abilities of an Inkwell Leviathan(for protection/evasion), Jin-Gitaxias(if you think they don't have an answer), or Massacre Wurm(if you want to answer an opposing token army or board).

Another problem is that you used a lot of inefficient self mill engines to get cards into the graveyard(grave stength, drown in filth, sudden relcamation) rather than good draw engines(frantic search, thirst for knowledge, compulsive research) which allow you to discard the creatures you want while drawing you extra cards

>>
>>47659232
Thanks for the advice, I see what you're saying, but I think it's beyond salvaging so I'm going to just scrap it.

After a quick scan, I'm pretty close to having the parts for that ghave deck and wonderful wizards one, but I think the general strategy is to just sink a shitload of money into a colour, buy up all the good cards in that colour with synergy, and slap them into a deck. Not to diminish anything, but in terms of my collection I don't have basic things like a force of will, or a dirty mike because I haven't been collecting for that long.

Now, based on that idea, I can probably run a moderately high level artifact deck of some variety. I have a Kuldotha Forgemaster, most of the good Myr, a Semblance Anvil, Strionic Resonator, most of the parts from that Darrietti artifact precon. I also have a heartless hidetsugu so something R/x or even mono red might fit, but then I know I need to pick up a blood moon and wheel of fortune to make things viable.

>>47660572
I had a good Rakdos deck a while back. I ended up taking it apart because it's basically just a boring combo deck. You land Rakdos, vomit fat bastards, and your opponents probably lose because they can't answer them. The deck consists of two parts, 1) things that enable you to cast Rakdos, and 2) huge fat cunts. For you to run anything beyond these, it has to be insanely powerful like Demonic/Vampiric Tutor or Phyrexian Arena. My enablers were things like Gut Shot, some 2-3 mana guys that pinged everyone at my upkeep, Honden of Infinite Rage, shit like that. Gatherer knows. My personal favourite play was Sidisi, tutor Artisan of Kozilek, play it for free, reanimate Sidisi, tutor something else. It's like she comes with a free 9/9 annihilator 2. The dream play is something like:

>T1
Vampiric Tutor something you need
>T2
Greaves
>T3
Lobber Crew
>T4
Tap Lobber Crew to deal 3, cast Rakdos which untaps Lobber Crew, tap Lobber Crew to deal 3, Greaves Rakdos, swing, cast Kozilek, Ulamog, It That Betrays, Void Winnower, and Blightsteel.

But honestly it stops getting enjoyable when you realise that there's no middleground in the deck. You either go off early and crush everyone, or sit there slowly topdecking land until you reach 6 so you can start playing things. And Rakdos isn't that kind of deck that you want to be running 35+ land in.

Red/Black Demons and Devils leave alot to be desired unless you don't mind nearly killing yourself (which is sort of the purpose of them sort of,) or you don't mind throwing in some eldrazi to carry the deck. Of course, limiting myself to tribal stuff is probably why I'm having an issue.

>>47660635
You both hit on things I thought Rakdos would enable. I have pretty much a full set of Eldrazi Titans + Blightsteel Colossus and I was thinking that Sire of Insanity would be a pain in the ass in that deck.

That being said, I'm looking for something consistent. It sounds to me like it's going to be a little wishy-washy, but my bar is set pretty low. As long as it can beat an average casual-deck-that's-slightly-better-than-a-precon it might be worth while.

Well, at the height of his power my Rakdos deck could take down anything at my LGS, including the Prophet-using UG tryhards. Honestly Void Winnower is one of the most powerful cards in EDH and no one realises it. It's an Iona that everyone can run. You can't wrath because everyone runs 4 mana wraths, you can't Cyclonic Rift, you can't drop Consecrated Sphinx or Deadeye.
>>
>>47660684
What? I didn't play because I knew it'd be a shit game, so the LGS owner borrowed my deck and played instead of me. No one enjoyed the game, so I was right.
>>
>>47660686
Do you have a list I could take a peak at? I'm pretty intrigued. It's down to either a rakdos fattie dump, or a colourless Newlamog party, and I think your suggestion is pretty good.
>>
>>47660698
I don't have a list, but if you came up with your own it'd probably be very similar. Just don't skimp on the land you use, because Rakdos is a hungry boy. I'd recommend not using fetchlands too just because the filtering may cause you to miss drops. And it's an excuse to not spend money on fetchlands. The bounceland is pretty legit though since you only need 3 land drops to reach 4 mana with it. If you made a list I'd be happy to tell you what's shit in it.

Everybody likes to jerk off over black and mono black, but black mostly gets love from competitive EDH as a combo color. If you're not planning on running tutorcombo.dec then your only other option is to basically play graveyard stuff, which is the most easily hated out strat in the game.

Jund, mardu, and grixis are all amazing combinations because they have a way to answer anything and multiple win conditions. Red/black is the only color combination that can't effectively win through a rest in peace.

Most of the overlap in red/black comes from aggro cards that are shitty in a multiplayer format and graveyard/discard stuff. If you want to go the latter route and want to stick to two colors, GB is pretty much strictly better.

New(ish) to MTG (about a year playing). Play in s small group of coworkers mostly. Been playing mostly aggro but decided to try something else with Mizzix. Been looking over various decks on tappedout.

Can someone please explain to me the exact workings of reiterate + seething song/turnabout producing tons of mana.

Like, I'm a complete idiot when it comes to the stack, so a step by step explanation would be REALLY appreciated.
>>
>>47665877
Jesus Christ are you also just a morongutang or what like how do you THINK it works
>>
First let's take a look at what the cards do.
Reiterate
Buyback {3} (You may pay an additional {3} as you cast this spell. If you do, put this card into your hand as it resolves.)

Copy target instant or sorcery spell. You may choose new targets for the copy.

Turnabout
Choose artifact, creature, or land. Tap all untapped permanents of the chosen type target player controls, or untap all tapped permanents of that type that player controls.

Mizzix of the Izmagnus
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell with converted mana cost greater than the number of experience counters you have, you get an experience counter.

Instant and sorcery spells you cast cost {1} less to cast for each experience counter you have.

Basically you need a Mizzix with a few counters. Tap your lands to add mana, cast turnabout to untap your lands. Hold priority, cast Reiterate with buyback. Let the copy resolve, untapping your lands. Then you play Reiterate with buyback again. Repeat ad nauseam.
>>
>>47665877
>>47665877
When you cast a spell, it goes on the stack. Starting with you yourself, each player at the table gets priority to also cast spells (or do other shit) while yours is on the stack. spells cast in response will similarly go on the stack, and resolve before yours. 99% of the time when you cast a spell you aren't one of the people doing stuff in response. For example let us assume you are lightning bolting some dudes commander. You would cast the bolt and pass priority cuz you just want it to resolve before you do other shit. But your opponent could cast giant growth on their commander in response to save it. But suppose you have reiterate in your hand and you wanna kill two peoples generals? You cast bolt, don't pass priority (in those rare cases where you actually do something in response to your own thing, we say you "hold priority"), so don't look at your resident blue player and ask if it resolves (he doesn't have priority yet), and you cast your reiterate targeting your lightning bolt.

So to go infinite with seething song you cast seething song. Song is on the stack. You hold priority and cast reiterate with buy back. If nobody counters your shit, reiterate resolves and makes you like 20 mana or whatever. Seething song is still on the stack. Repeat step two as many times as you want. You now have as much mana as you want.

Tokens are pretty bad offensively for Voltron but they provide a decent defense against sac removal. White also has mentor of the Meek to fuel that color pairing's horrendous access to card draw. Odric 2.0 + Kalemne is fun too with tokens. Depending on what's in the deck, anon could devote some slots to a sub-theme.

I know nothing about budget because I mostly play online, and while Mimeoplasm is one of my favorite commanders, you have to play him as fatty combo or he's as fucking casual as it gets. You never want to copy Mulldrifter or get +2/+2, ever. Running it is fine if you've filled out the rest of your fatties and graveyard insertions, and it dies to graveyard hate faster than you can cast Sol Ring.

Commanders I find genuinely fun even without turbobroken cards:
- Jhoira, unless your playgroup thinks you're super Spike. Jhoira can do broken as well as she does fun. Chaos Jhoira is best.
- Marchesa. God damn you cannot fuck up a Marchesa deck. Play creatures, play spells that reduce your own life, play a few politics cards that require votes and run ETB effects. Throw creatures at whoever has the highest life total until they don't.

- Any shitty low-cost commander, such as Tymaret. Being able to drop them early and having a single thing that you can do means two things: you're rarely seen as a threat until AFTER the Dictate of Eberos drops, and if you like combos, you can try your best to pack a deck with similar ones and win when no one is looking. Or you can make everyone ELSE suffer with discard, life loss, and other such effects. Unless your meta is one of those super competitive "I want to combo out within the first six turns because fun", this will work.

Oh, and my personal recommendation? Try getting a Jund or Grixis landbase together. It doesn't need to be super fancy, but Jund infect (Infect + Bloodrush + Haste + Trample + As much aggro as you can fit) is good, and Marchesa is good.
>>
>>47659152
Oh, and consider picking up Meren or Newzuri. Meren in particular is pretty good if you're looking for graveyard stuff in less colors.

So, /tg/, what are your favorite pet cards and why? To be clear, I'm talking about a card that isn't used commonly either in your commander, in your colors, or at all- such as my current favorite pet card, Pyxis of Pandemonium.

You'd think it would get immediate hate, but in every game I've played so far, people are hesitant to blow up artifacts unless it hasn't picked up steam. Having six or more cards completely removed from your library and the possibility of them all entering is too tempting- I've had players quite literally use up cards to steal it, just so they could crack for 7 and trigger the mass entering. It can shift boardstates wildly and is fantastic against players who just stuffed a bunch of counterspells and instant/sorceries in their deck to try and combo off, since they're getting less out of it.
