Repostan:

Friend and I have been doing 1,5k points and we're wanting to slow down a bit so we can play multiple games a day instead of just one, so we're halving it to 750 points.

Is there any basic guide on important units for a list that small?

We're doing one game with Flyers and one game without Flyers.

It's called Horus Heresy 5: Imperial Cults and Militia

The option you're looking for is in the form of Abhuman Helots, so your entire army is Abhumans. Second choice of Providences is for personal flavor. Warrior Elite or Ferals, and model your centaurs as plate armoured warriors. Survivors of the Dark Age for futuristic centaurs in carapace armour with non-shitty weapons.

Just model your abhumans as Centaurs. Larger bases optional, but recommended.

>>47577805
Actually, I can immediately think of a way to model this. Just buy the Snake Demon mini from Reaper Bones, and chop the entire torso off, then add Guard or Sisters torsos to it. Cheap Lamia Abhumans for only an extra 2$ a model.

Today I went to GW for the first time in years with my SoB.
Expecting to get absolutely assmangled, I built a list I thought was decent for 1650 (told that was their standard points). Went with MSU sisters, 3 dominions, 2 exorcists, 3 Pen Engines.
However; I played some space wolf guy, and all he brought was like 100 marines, footslogging.
Am I an asshole? I tabled him super early. Is this what I should expect at a GW?

Also, 1650 is something I've never heard of either. Where the fuck do you live that people use that points level?
>>
>>47578457

>>
>>47578518
>>47578498
I thought it was weird too, but whatever. Stops people bringing lists they saw online I guess.
Should I really expect people to be that bad at the game though? I used to homeschool a group of 11 year olds and even they made army lists that were better than his.
>>
>>47578518
>spam the everloving shit out of AP3/2.
I don't think Sisters get any AP2 or AP3 at all. Combi-plas, I guess?
>>
>>47578548
100-marine lists CAN be good, but you really need to know what the fuck you're doing. It's practically mandatory that all of them have special weapons, such as Lascannons and Plasma Cannons.

A gladius makes them better too, since free rhinos and razorbacks adds another layer that your enemy needs to peel through in order to get to the meat of the army.

I've also played against a 100-man space wolf list as my Raptors. Not a single one of his assaulty marines ever got to melee, as they were all shot to death by rending bolters, plasma guns, plasma cannons, and lascannons before they even got halfway across the table.

Inventive Necron Strategies I am trying out:

Squad of three sentry pylons with Obyrn or a cryptek with veil of darkness. Turn 1 deep strike your str 10 ap 1 multishot artillery into range and nuke field. Can take both of the teleporting options in big games and attack with two sets of arty.
>>
Living Tomb formation with several squads of scythe lychguard on the field. Drop monoliths midfield, enemy has to decided between being destroyed in melee or trying to stop more of your army from gating in. Basically shores up the weakness of both lychguard and monoliths.

Forgefiend with Hades Autocannons, additional Ectoplasma cannon (205)

Heldrake with baleflamer 170

2x Maulerfiend with Lasher Tendrils 140 ea

2x Soul Grinder with Phlegm 165 ea

dELDAR are shit right now. They're glass cannons that rely on mobility to survive, but instantly lose all of their killing power the moment they move and get shot at. Also, AV10 2hp open-topped vehicles all across the board.
>>
>>47579465
they're kinda fucked because open topped is a major disadvantaged right now with vehicle damage and the FAQ about jinking.

The covenant rules work okay, but the main armies 'use mobility to make up for fragility' doesn't work because they aren't actually as mobile, and what they have doesn't make up for their fragility.

A good special detachment could do a lot to help them, but right now they fall apart too easily.

>>
>>47579580
I think you did quite well, anon.
>>
>>47579667
You can multi-assault anon, its a disorganized charge but your green tide could, in perfect scenario, assault the entire army in one phase.
>>
>>47579667
and only score one objective at a time
and, at the end of it, is still just ork boys
>>
>>47579711
That is a good point. I mean strictly speaking, 10 units of boyz allows 300 of them, so it's not farfetched to have the mass cover the board and pushing the enemy to the table edge.
>>
>>47579698
Yeah I added it up on the site too but idk how pricing usually goes for already assembled armies.
If I do buy it I won't be getting new models anytime soon but I would have a huge army that I can try to paint.
>>
>>47579752
But that's just the problem. A good player can deploy at his table edge, and move 5/6" back to keep the orks out of range for 4 turns straight. Even longer as he keeps killing models, until your horde falls apart.
>>
>>47579755
Do it, anon. If you bought all this from an LGS that gives you discounts, and the max I've ever seen is 30%, that's still almost #$600. Sure, some of the painting will be harder, but you've spared yourself the hell of building Necron stuff.
>>
Ok 40k General. GW has put you in charge of the next supplements for your favorite faction. Your job is to make it so that it can both fox your faction, but do so in a fluffy way. Like legion tactics and formations for CSM, or something similar. What faction is the supplement for and how does it fix ir make better said faction in a fluffly way? The more detailed description, the better
>>
So what are some problem units for Dark Eldar? I just went over their troop choices and they seem solid.
>>
You should really split your ork list into two CADs, then you can put your buggies in MSU formation.
>>
>>47579846

>>
>>47579838
>Codex Supplement: Tau Empire - Xenos Allies

Pretty self explanatory. Features lots of other types of Xenos with tiny formations to help make a less mech-oriented Tau Army. Possibly some Water Caste representatives, too?

>Codex Supplement: Dark Eldar - Kabals and Cults of the Dark City

Features "chapter tactics" for specific Kabals and Wych Cults and formations with bonuses for mixing and matching them according to fluff.
>>
>>47579891
>lack of real useful firepower.
Going to disagree there.
The basic troops are rather limited, but that's true of most basic troops.

trueborn, scourges, reavers all get good weapons. The incubus weapon is just fine, they just need grenades or a rule that works like grenades. The vehicles all have decent guns.

Overpriced, and limited ability to make up for their fragility, that I will give you.
>>
>>47578053

Old Cron supplement.

Large faction of Necrons who still worship the C'tans and are putting the shards back together. Their sworn enemies are the Silent King, Eldar and Orks.

No bugs, no little bony skimmers. Their monoliths are immune to melta and lance effects and replace their current guns with the Doomsday Arks gun (but cost 300 pts).

Necron Lords are no longer HQs but come with warrior and immortal squads, which are now max sized ten larger each.

Heavy weapon teams with tesla destructors as foot weapons.
>>
>>47579838
Update of Iyanden supliment.

Go back to old Distort rules, and make the Wraithknight cost 400pts. These now become the official rules for those units because it's the most recent rules for them.

Wraithlord gets an option paying 20pts to become jump monsterous creature, but then can't take any heavy guns.
Formation of Avatar and Wraithblades and jump lord. Avatar can join the unit of Wraithblades, and wraithblades within the avatars aura get fleet as well.

Formation of Hemlocks, that gives a base 5+ cover save and rerolls on their spirit stones.

Codex and index Astartes supplement.

First half is written like the codex Astartes, mainly to outline the tactics and such the marines use, as well as present different "tactica" which are psuedo-formations (the good kind with lots of options, so more like the cron or marine formations, not the ork kind), however they involve both the way you deploy and how you play as well as the units you take, but gives you bonuses for that.

Like a steel rain tactica. It has normal unit requiments, but also requires you to hold half your forces in deep strike, but gives bonuses for that.

The index Astartes would be like the angels of death supplements, but for famous chapters that aren't first founding, like black templars, crimson fists, blood ravens etc. as well as first founding that don't have much support, like the dark and blood Angels and the space wolves.
It would also give different ways for creating and fleshing out custom chapters and their tactics and such.

I can dig it. anything that isn't suitspam I'm all for.

>Tau Empire: The Bold and the Brave/Kauyon (couldn't come up with a better name)
All foot infantry, and drones. Expanded drone section too. The only suit available is the stealthsuit. The codex focuses on altering the battlefield, sneaky tactics, planting boobytraps and IEDs and essentially battlefield control and sabotaging enemy wargear like disabling jumppacks temporarily or causing them to roll d6 to move instead of a defined 6" range. Drones that affect the environment/current cover, or even create cover.

Wargear section is rife with stealthy or sniper-y doohickeys for optimum sneakan.

Yeah, I bought imperial knight renegade, started that project with a ton of magnetising/custom work, then got completely sidetracked onto an Anvil Strike Force with dreads and tank squads, sorry.

I have all the parts for Project Busty, but have been severely neglecting it.
>>
>>47580085
I'd go even further. Make the supplement the angels of death equivalent for the major craftworlds.
>>
>>47580229
I'd be in.
Sam hains core requires them to take multiple Vypers, but give the vypers an actual good upgrade. Also jetbikes are back to 1 special weapon per 3, this is not the most recent rule, therefor official.

Ulthwe core makes you take warlocks with all your guardian squads, but gives them some bonus.

Biel-Tan core is dire avengers and autarch, with bonus. A few extra things like dire avenger shrine but for other aspects.

Alaitoc: formations and detachments that reward taking lots of rangers.

Oooooh boy do I have some ideas.

>Thousand Sons CSM Supplement

- psykers with MoT must take half their powers rounded down from lore of Tzeentch

- un-shittify lore of Tzeentch so that taking spells from it is actually useful, make it a mind bullet & support-type lore

- Tzeentch primaris power is a 2-shot ap3 autocannon with 24" range, giving sorcerors something useful to do always

- sorcerors can also take spells from Malefic, Pyromancy, Biomancy, or Telepathy, and always know the primaris of lores they take spells from (this means that a ML 3 1k Sons sorcerer lord knows 5 spells, 1 Tz + Tz primaris, 2 other + other primaris

- MoT mandatory, provides Tz primaris power for free, +1 to invulnerable, reroll all ones always

- units of rubric marines and rubric terminators are led by aspiring sorcerors, who are ML2, cultists can buy them as a sergeant upgrade

- aspiring sorcerors leading units of rubrics can choose to exchange up to half of their known spells for spells from the lore of the rubric, which is a lore that exclusively buffs units of rubrics and could provide stuff like relentless, ignores cover, boosted invulnerable save, etc.

>HQs:

Ahriman

1k Sons sorcerer lords
- ML3 always
- taking terminator armor allows them to make one unit of rubric terminators troops

>Elites:

Rubric Terminators
- minimum squad size 4 models, 1 is an aspiring sorceror in terminator armor

Chosen
- brotherhood of psykers, every 2 sorcerors generate one warp die/mastery level, the unit caps at ML3
- unit size caps at 9
- can only take spells from MoT but each sorceror allows for an additional roll on the table

>Troops

Rubrics
- basically unchanged, slight points reduction
- mandatory 2 troops from the CAD MUST be rubric marines

Cultists
- stats/price unchanged
- unit champion can be upgraded to aspiring sorceror for however many points brings their cost to 80
- sorceror can sacrifice a cultist to reroll a failed psychic die in the psychic phase

> Buy catgirls to serve as household pets
> Sell catgirls to distant planets that are lacking in catgirls
> Create a burgeoning catgirl-trading empire in the ass-end of the universe, making trillions of thrones in the process
> using said trillions of thrones to create a dynasty of catgirl-trading assholes that lives until the end of time on gold-leafed bread personally inscribed by the left pinkie toe of saints.

That and their chapter organization must be very different from more orthodox Chapters when it comes to ranks and rituals.

You're sort of supposed to use the DA codex for DA successors but the regular marine codex works fine if you're not interested in any of the DW/RW specific stuff. Actually better in the case of the angels of absolution, as they canonically use sternguard which obviously cannot be used with the DA codex.

You two are going to buy ALL the codices?? Shit man just get them from the OP and save yourself a shitload of cash.

If you want to do the DA "greenwing" gunline you probably want to build yourself into a demi-company formation, it's the best way to make use of your tactical squads and the extra ballistic skill for overwatching can allow you to play pretty aggressively against assault focused armies. Plus if you do end up not liking DA then the units all translate over to vanilla space marine lists.

Thanks for having my back against the "Space Marines are mutants" meme, m8.

While I'm obviously a big fan of the "the stalwarts of humanity against tides of daemomic and alien evil are inherently inhuman" irony of Space Marines, it's silly to use the term "mutant" when it doesn't fit either in real life, nor in canon for what a mutant is

This is an example of guided evolution, rather than through mutation and natural selection.

Though one could also make the case that Space Marines are not an evolution because they do not pass on their traits.

>Though one could also make the case that Space Marines are not an evolution because they do not pass on their traits.

I guess it depends on what the Magos Biologis define as evolution in the 41st millenium, but by 21st century standards it's inherently separate for heritability, as you point out.

Personally I'd love someone whose very knowledgeable on physics, biology, chemistry, fiction and humour to take a leading role in 40k fluff writing, but for now, we have what we got, which isn't much of any of the aforementioned
>>
>>47583382
> Space marines don't pass on their traits
Someone has obviously not read how space marines are created. They literally reproduce asexually, by stealing the children of their host organism, and implanting the genes of a dead space marine into the child. These heavily modify how the child develops, effectively turning them into more space marines.

it may not be reproduction as we humans understand it, but it essentially IS reproduction to space marines.

I'm very picky about mine, but sometimes you just want more than what the anime/book/comic/game/movie/etc offers, you know?

There are a few decent Dark Eldar ones I read, but the best one I ever found was a Halo one called Institution. It followed an elite from his people's trial that was sort of a passage to adulthood, his experience joining the Covenant and training to be a soldier and actual deployment to the battlefields of the galaxy.

It was over 100K words I believe and had about 15 chapters and it was superb. Characters evolved and grew, plot points from well back in the story came around again later to haunt the main character and it had a level of depth to it that most things don't even come close to in regards to regular life and the culture of the people that live it.

Not 40K I know, but as far as fanfiction goes it is one of the few I can highly recommend.

Sisters update.

-Tweak Acts of Faith to be somewhere between the old 4e version and how it works now - a few universal acts that everyone can use; with each unit getting one that's just for them. Add Acts of Faith to the vehicles, too, with effects based on their role (so, Rhino gets an act for a speed boost; Immolator gets a dif. buff depending on its weapon; Exorcist gets Twin Linked; Penitent Engine gets Crusader)

-some kind of dedicated anti-psyker unit. Tentatively call 'em the Witchbreakers; have them generate psychic dice, but only in the enemy psy phase for defense; give 'em Acts that grant them Psishock; and a HQ version that can AoF to Perils the nearest enemy psyker. (spoiler, they are psykers themselves)

-Buff the Canoness a bit. She damn well shouldn't have to pay extra for a good invuln save; and ought to have an option for Artificer Armor.

-Expanded armory and some price breaks. A power sword that's worth 15 points in the hands of a S4 T4 Space Marine isn't still worth 15 points in the hand of a S3 T3 Sister. Drop Power Weapons to 10 points (like in 4e; it seemed to work) Add Power Fists/Chainfists/Lightning Claws to the options. Let Seraphim Superiors have Wargear access again - I miss my express Eviscerator Delivery Service. Some more Relics wouldn't be amiss either - I miss the Brazier of Holy Fire; and the 2e 'Dex has some neat weapons that could be 'modernized.'

-Make the basic Sister 11 points again - they just aren't quite worth 12. Especially not in an edition where Space Marines are only 14.

-Give the Exorcist multiple firing modes - it's a pipe organ on teh back of a tank, different hymns for different effects. Tank Hunter hymn; Skyfire hymn; Shred hymn... And while we're at it, the damn thing fires Melta Missiles - the melta rule as written doesn't really make sense for a warhead rather than a beam, but perhaps on a 6 to-hit, the warhead lands just _so_ and you get the extra dice of AP.
(too long, continued below)

Continued

-On the same note as Melta Missiles - give Retributors access to the Missile Launcher, with Melta and Frag rounds, and an option for Flakk. Also, make their Act grant Relentless; move Divine Guidance up to the 'everyone can use this' acts

- aircraft. Air power seems to be here to stay in 40k, the girls should have some options. One fighter; one bomber(dropping either AoE ignores cover fire blasts or clusters of Meltabombs that only hurt stuff under the center of the small template - but if it's under the center, well, S8 AP1 Meltabomb time) Give the Fighter an Act of Faith for Vector Dancer; and the Bomber one so's it can make a Flat Out move in the shooting phase and do another bomb run if that takes it over another target(No Rest for the Wicked)

-More vehicles. Let's raid the Space Marine armory again and nab some Land Speeders (both the regular 2-gun version and perhaps the Storm for another transport option for minimum squads) and perhaps a Predator. Flamestorm cannon; Avenger Bolt Cannon; or some kind of rapid-fire Melta cannon turret options; Heavy Flamer/Heavy Bolter/Multimelta sponsons. Act to let it fire like it was stationary that turn.

-Special Characters. Let's add some HFY badasses who aren't glorious martyrs, but glorious SURVIVORS who keep on smiting the Emperor's foes. Pask/Longstrike equivalent as well (bonus points - base her vaguely upon Tank Girl, because 40k is the most fun when it's not taking itself too seriously)

-some formations that aren't jsut for Apocalypse. Everyone else seems to be doing it; and the themes of faith and fire ought to lend themselves to some good ones.

>>
>>47584894
more the "at half range; do extra damage." That works for a beam - the closer you are the more focused/intense it is. for a warhead, if it's going off, it's touching the zogging target, so the half-range part is what doesn't make sense for me. On the other hand, turning the Exorcist into a rapid-fire Vanquisher would be just a wee tad bit OP, so I thought about how else to sort of work it.

Its pretty good on anything with Relentless or that won't move the entire game. Great versus save 4+ armies like Skitarii or Guard (with carapace armor).
Since it's Master-crafted and most things that can buy it are BS4-5, you're likely to not miss much, and with Shred you're probably going to wound also.
For its points it's pretty ok.
>>
>>47585128
Neutron Laser is in most situations a straight upgrade to the Eradication Beamer.
Only time the latter was ever helpful was when I was facing blobguard and the S6 AP5 Large Blast erased hole swathes of the buggers in a single shot. This of course this made the damn thing near useless versus their tanks though.
Stick with Neutron, it's great versus almost everything, be them blobs, vehicles, or characters/MC.

If your local meta has a ton of Flyers,FMC, and/or Skimmers (or if you lack anti-air in general), consider going with the Icarus Array. It's a damn great Anti-Air platform, especially in the Start Collecting box's formation.
Be warned that it becomes absolutely useless if the enemy didn't bring any Flyers/FMC/Skimmers though as every weapon it comes with has Skyfire and you'll be forced to Snap-Fire at all ground targets.

Heavy Phosphor Blaster is dick and overpriced, just take Kastellans.

Second game I won and it wasnt as close, but still pretty fun. I took a lot of wounds off of some special bloodthirster, and took out a load of bloodletters early on. He kept pushing forward and D weaponed a dreadknight with his special bloodthirster and killed it. Then I shot at that thirster again and killed it, but the other special thirster took out my other dreadknight with his initative 9 attacks. I had draigo in a large terminator squad though, and he was able to cleanup most of what was left at the end. With force, hammerhand, prescience, and misfortune abound, along with being gk against daemons I was able to do a ton of wounds to basically anything dragon and his unit came into contact with.

Speaking from experience, since we have almost no re-rolls, the sheer amount of hits outdoes our usual 2+'s or 3+'s. I can save as many fucking lascannon shots on my Dreadknight as they throw at it, but GOD help me if a Guardsman squad takes aim. I'll roll 3 1's to save minimum.
>>
>>47585712

It's getting to be quite a lot of points sunk into one unit (I assume they're rolling together), but otherwise it's not bad. The only complaints I can make are:

>You'd have to shoot both the Grav-Guns and Primarch's Wrath at the same unit, meaning that if your shooting a vehicle than Primarch's Wrath won't do jack shit since it's S4 (iirc), and if you're shooting at a unit with a good armor save, then the enemies would still get their armor save from Primarch's Wrath's shots since they're only AP4.

>You might get more out of your points by cutting 1 man from the squad and taking an apothecary. This would give the other 4 Grav-Gun guys and the Captain a Feel No Pain save if they fail their Armor/Invuln save.
5 Grav-Guns+Storm Shield is a tad overkill anyway.

>Consider buying a melee weapon on the Captian. Currently his other weapon will most likely go unused and the squad will most likely be tar-pitted and/or destroyed if something gets into Assault with it since they lack offensive firepower.
>>

At least one of your troop squads is going to be camping a backfield objective for most of the game. Drop their meltas and upgrade that Rhino to an Immolator. Looks okay apart from that and a complete lack of AA.
>>
Realistically, how many melta's do you need to pop a heavy like a Land Raider or Lemon Russ in one turn?

I tend to think you need 3 for a transport and 5 for a tank
>>
So if I just place my drop pod on top of a vehicle and roll scatter dice, so long as there is space all around it, i'll just scatter to immediate side?
>>
>>47586249
BS4 vs AV14, 6 melta shots gives you an expected 3 hull points of damage and roughly 50% chance to explode. It takes 8 or 9 meltas to reliably wreck a Land Raider in one turn.
>>
>>47586283
Nope, you scatter less to avoid obstacles, not more. You'll automatically mishap if you place on top of a vehicle, if the rules even allow it in the first place.

>>
>>47586397

>>
>>47586418
Nope. Never let your enemy have the charge. Light them up, then more down whatever's left in the assault. If they somehow survive a round of shooting and two rounds of close combat, shoot and charge again.
>>
>>47586440
>then more down

An Explodes! result is a 7 on the Pen chart, AP1 gives a +2 to Pen Result, and so a roll of a 5+ on the chart would cause an Explodes! result, giving you a 33% chance per die to roll the said result. On average you'd want at least 3 AP1 Pens for an Explodes! Result on the chart (this all is assuming the vehicles is not open-topped).

If you were in "Melta Range" versus an 14 Vehicle (you couldn't penetrate it if you weren't in this range since S8 plus a further roll of a 6 would only equal 14), than you'd need an average roll of a 7 on 2d6, which is a 58.33% chance. Since you need 3 Pens you'd most likely need to have 6 shots Hit to get the desired number of Pens.

Assuming you have BS4, then you'd have a 66% chance to hit per shot. If you need 6 shots to hit then you need to fire about 9 shots to get the desired number of Hits.

So to explode a non-open topped AV14 vehicle in a single turn you would want an upwards of 9 Meltas, all in "Melta Range", to statistically do the job.

I'd still take one or two extra however.

isn't there like a thing for drop pods that works like the teleport homer?
>>
>>47586456
Well what are the odds if you count exploding AND hull points into consideration?
>>
>>47586498
oh, locator beacons...

how does that work?
>>
>>47586498
Locator beacons, but they don't work well with pods as they need to be the table before the deep strike.
>>
>>47585845
>You might get more out of your points by cutting 1 man from the squad
What do you mean?
Command squads are 5 guys, no more, no less.
>>
>>47586341
Alright, both are solid choices, especially for what you're doing. I'd stick with this setup for the Command Squad (all on Bikes of course):

>Veteran:Grav-Gun, Storm Shield, Bolt Pistol/Chainsword
x4

>Apothecary

This would give everyone in the squad, including the Captain, a 5+ FnP (if you decide to roll Iron Hands route, this would give everyone in the squad a 4+ instead), making them much more resilient to large volumes of small arms fire. Combine this with their 3++ to protect against small volumes of large arms fire and you got a damn resilient squad. This is also 10 points cheaper than what you originally posted.

As for the Captain, I'd switch him out for a Mastery Level 2 Divination Librarian. He may be less durable and have access to less firepower than the Captain, but he can easily give you squad a myriad of bonuses such as Twin-Linked, Ignore's Cover, and Shred just through Psychic Powers. He also comes stock with a Force Weapon of your choice for easy Instant Death application in Assault, and since he's a Psyker he'll make your bikes resist Psychic attacks more easily. Just running his on a Bike with Mastery Level 2 is 110 points, making him extremely cheap for his usefulness.
If you have extra points you can give him a Grav Pistol so he can concuss an enemy Character or MC before charging in to kill them in one hit with his Force Weapon too.

At the very least it's something to consider. He's make you Command Squad more shooty than you Primarch's Wrath Captian+Bikes would ever be.

>>47586525
Both kill a Land Raider at about the same time. Your magic number is ~8.5 shots.
>>
so neither scouts nor land speeder storms get locater beacons?

wtf?
>>
I feel like dark lances should be AP1
>>
>>47586525
Hmm, well then you'd just need a roll of a 6 when rolling for Armour Penetration, giving you a 72.22% chance per hit to deal at least a single hull point of damage. Overall, I think I'd be MAYBE a single less Meltagun you'd need to Wreck/Explode it. I'm lazy and I don't wanna do the math so that's just an estimation, take it with a grain of salt.

The above is of course assuming that you were still in "Melta Range". Assuming the vehicle has 4 Hull Points (standard for Land Raiders, but Leman Russes have only 3), then you'd to roll 4 6's to wreck it. Given that it's a 1/6 chance to roll a 6 for Armour Pen, then you'd need 24 Melta shots to hit it to get the 4 6's. Assuming you're BS4, then you'd need fucking 36 Melta shots do take it down in one turn.
Don't worry though, you only need fucking 27 if the vehicle has only 3 Hull Points.
>>47586626
I mean you cut out one Grav Gun+Storm Shield Biker and replace him with an Apothecary
See >>47586639
>>
>>47586710
this sucks man, i wanted to do sternguard combi meltas w/ droppods using scouts w/ locator beacons, but I'm stuck using squishy 4+ armor save scout bikes.

scout squads are at least useful w/sniper rifles and camo cloaks, bikes are stuck jinking if they want a 3+ save.
>>
>>47586734
>using a melta at more than half range
you see now why i wanted the locator beacons.
>>
>>47586786
Just put the pod right next to what you want to shoot and it's unlikely you'll be out of range.
>>
>>47586684
And here's the math.

Average shots required to pen (Melta vs AV14):
1 pen / .5833 chance to pen = 1.714 hits / .66 chance to hit = 2.6 shots per pen.

Probability of getting an Explodes! result (AP1 vs closed top):
>One pen (2.6 shots)
33%
>Two pens (5.2 shots)
57%
>Three pens (7.8 shots)
71%
>Four pens (10.4 shots)
91%

Now, wrecking a Land Raider by Melta damage:
4 hull points / .7222 chance to glance+pen = 5.539 hits / .66 chance to hit = 8.39 shots

So 8 shots gives you a pretty good chance of Explodes!, but not quite enough hull points to wreck it in one turn. 9 shots gives solid odds of killing it both ways. I don't really feel like doing the math to find the odds of surviving 9 shots, but off the top of my head it should be somewhere around 10%.

>Supplement: Da Klans

>Deffskulls

New upgrade in Orky Know-wots: Blue Warpaint. A model with Blue Warpaint gains a 5+ invulnerable save. 10 points.

New Detachment: Deffskull Warband. Detachment Rules:

- Loot 'em! Vehicle wrecks count as objectives for the Ork player.
- Thievin' Gitz! Lootas may be taken as Troops choices. In addition, Lootas gain the Objective Secured special rule.
- Looted Vehicles. A Deffskull Warband may include units with the Vehicle special rule from any Codex. These vehicles use the same Force Organization slot as they do in their codex, and can take any upgrades they could otherwise take. However, all such vehicles reduce their Ballistic Skill to 2, and gain the "Don't touch dat!" special rule.

>Speed Freaks

Red wuns go Faster!: Any eligible model taken in a Speed Freak detachment gains the Red Paint special rule for free. In addition to its normal effects, models with Red Paint gain the Jink special rule. Models that already have the Jink special rule (even those without Red Paint) gain a 3+ cover save when Jinking instead of a 4+.

New Detachment: Konvoy. Detachment Rules:

- Eat dust! Warbiker Mobs, Deffkoptas and Warbuggies may be taken as Troops choices. In addition, these units all gain the Objective Secured special rule.
- Faster! Faster! WAAAAAGH! Any unit that Turbo-boosts gains the Fearless special rule until the beginning of its next turn. In addition, units that Turbo Boost may still fire their weapons as Snap Shots.

>(even those without Red Paint)
Why even have this if Red Paint is free? Do you really get offended if the model's paint doesn't reflect it's wargear?
>>
>>47586811
well, i figure its 3" from the base of the pod and 2" for disembark, and you need to be within 6", so unless you roll a striaght up 12 on the scatter die, i guess you're good.
>>
>>47586815
>Four pens (10.4 shots)
>91%
Sorry, that should be 81%.
>>
>>47586823
do ork bikers still get their 4+ cover save for exhaust smoke?
>>
>>47586860
I don't think I'd take more than 5 regardless.
>>
>>47586869
Sure, but it'll take two squads or two turns to kill the Land Raider. Honestly, your best bet for alpha striking a Land Raider is a Skyhammer force with a grav squad. 23 grav shots with rerolls to against vehicles is 4.5 notpens, and it only takes 3 to wreck a Land Raider.
>>
>>47586915
I try to avoid grav cause its cheesy and its expensive as hell.
>>
>>47586852
Disembarkation is up to and entirely withing 6 inches from access point(s) of the model, so you'd measure for the drop pod's doors instead of their base. This can be argued since drop pods have no documented access points from what I recall, but RAI it seems fine.

This more less means you can deploy 6 inches from the pod wherever it decides to land, so if you place it 1" away from the target, you'll only be out of range on a roll of a 12 going exactly away from it.

I don't think I need to tell you how low of odd that is.
>>
>>47586915
>>47586938
Haywire might be a better choice if you have access to it in your army.

10 Skitarii Vanguard in a Drop Pod with 3 Arc Rifles and an Arc Pistol on the Alpha can put out 7 Haywire shots if pod lands within 18 inches of the target. Use Doctrina Imperatives to boost their BS4 to 7 for a turn and you got a damn good chance at killing anything.
>>
>>47586971
The ramps of drop pods are cosmetic. You measure from the base.
>>
>>47587000
its also the points.

a command squad with 5 melta's/combi-meltas and a drop pod is 175 points. Which is a good trade for a land raider but kinda shitty for a LR
>>
>>47587048
the edge of the base, not the center. But your right, the ramps are just for show.
>>
>>47587048
>>47587075
Sorry to sound perhaps a little annoying, but where is this rule located?
It's always bother me but I've never been able to get closure on it.
>>
>>47586837

No, it's for models like Warbikers and Deffkoptas which cannot take Red Paint, but which are very classic Speed Freak units.

mmmf.

I can't think of any good ideas for a list.

fluffy.

god dammit, the point costs for camo cloaks option in battlescibe on stormbringer squadron is broken. I wish I knew how to go in the raws and edit it manually.

Anvil strike force, make a Comtemptor your warlord and give him an honour guard of two more in the unit.
