Okay, normally I would never take the cop's side when shooting someone unarmed, but that dude was clearly fucking up by pretending he had a gun. I mean, police brutality is definitely a problem, but pretending you're going to shoot a cop is a dumb fucking thing to do. People actually shoot those guys.

Warning shots cost lives.

If someone reaches behind their back and pulls something that looks like a gun out and points it at you, a warning shot can get you killed.

Especially at that range. It is pretty clear that kid was antagonizing that cop in the first place.

Notice how the cop didn't draw his weapon until he felt he was threatened. The cop could've pulled his gun way before, but gave the kid the benefit of the doubt all the way up to the point said kid decided to go for a Darwin Award.

I don't know why people think guns are meant for anything other than killing. Cops are trained to use their guns if they're in a position where killing this guy is the only way to save their life or someone else's. And dispite what morons on Twitter and Facebook like to tell you, the overwhelming majority of officer-involved shootings go down exactly like that. They don't "fire warning shots" or "shoot to wound or disarm" because that's not what a fucking gun is for.

Cops use lethal force because literally nothing else is going to stop the situation without someone other than the maniac threatening police officers getting hurt.
>>
>>47276966
>one of the bullets as a warning
Warning shots are complete fiction and one of the dumbest fucking things you can do. They're explicitly illegal, and a bad idea all around.

The only time you ever draw a firearm on someone is when you intend to use it to kill. You don't draw to threaten, and you don't draw to warn.
>>
>>47276966
>Just fire a warning shot
You have not been in a combat scenario, do not talk about something you do not understand.

Props for trying though.
>>
>>47276966
>someone is pulling what appears to be a firearm from behind themselves towards you

>you have a fraction of a second before they can get their gun pointed in your general direction

>so you're going to aim away from them, fire at least once, and get shot if they don't stop then MAYBE get your gun trained back on them before they put even more bullets in you

>or you can shoot them and not run as high a risk getting fucking killed

Anon.
>>
>>47277097

You don't even need to be in combat to know "warning shots" are bullshit.

As >>47277067 said they're illegal because surprise surpise, they're a stupid and frankly dangerous move to make. For a variety of reasons.

Second, wheres the bullet going to go? hit something or someONE in the direction you fire is where it'll go.

Missing is different then pointing AWAY from shomeone and fireing. The bullet isn;t going to magically stop just because you fired away from someone.
You fire at the ground? Welp bullets bounce, you've potentially hurt yourself or an innocent person.
You fire UP? The bullet isn't going to space nigga, that shit will fall, with enough force to kill someone. (And it has. That's why firing your gun into the air on the 4th of July is illegal.)
Firing past someone? Bitch the bullet is traveling at the speed of sound, it's not going to stop till it hits something.

Guns are like cars. Everyone should have one, but if you can't be safe with it you don't deserve it.
>>
Eh my Drill Sargent advocated for the use of warning shots in certain situations.
>>
>>47277952

My analysis would be: If yes to animal souls, then as animals never experienced the fall, they go to heaven you can conceptualize heaven as a vast and ever expanding garden of Eden.

If no, animals don't have souls they're just machines made of meat. As such there's no issue with replicating them, as there is no violation of the soul. So the dog will go to heaven, because it's simply a thing that can be replicated.

I'm no theologian though.

While sex in heaven is up to debate, being given in marriage after the resurrection is definitely not.

Got what was coming to him, i guarantee the cop was warning him, probably had been warning him for like half a minute at least. He shoulda known better, he had his chance to back down, he persisted knowing what could happen. The officer did nothing wrong, that people can hold this up and say that somehow the cop is the villain and this criminal is the victim is bullshit. They have no leg to stand on. We had something similar happen in my city recently, cops came across this guy (who happened to be black) beating a guy with a metal pipe. They told him to cease and desist, he went after the cops with the damn pipe, and they shot his ass. Suprise suprise, there is an investigation, and all the retards are screaming about police brutality. What the fuck people? No one talks about cop killers, if a cop dies (and i assure you they do die) no one gives a fuck. They shoot the gangbanger and everyone looses their fucking minds.

The Five Weapon Safety Rules:

1. Treat every weapon as if it were loaded.
2. Do not point your weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot or destroy.
3. Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to fire.
4. Keep your weapon on safe until you intend to fire.
5. Know your target and what lies beyond.

Warning shots are idiotic. Shoot to kill or not at all. Knew a guy that shot an Iraqi kid in the leg after he was running away from the FOB with a bag of food. He ended up bleeding out and we had a massive headache for like the next month.

Ugh. People focus their attention on exactly hte wrong types of police abuses. Said abuses are totally real,. but attacking cops and pointing fake guns at them really is a great way of getting yourself shot and completely justified.

Maybe white people don't get shot for this because white people are smart enough not to point fake guns at police officers.

>he wasn't carrying a weapon
So?

When will #BLM retards realize people can be dangerous without a gun? Fists and feet are used in murders more than rifles and shotguns. A reasonably fit adult can do a surprising amount of damage without a weapon, and that's before you get into the fact that they could just as easily try to take the cop's own gun in a fistfight.

Furthermore, it's clear the officer was backing away with his gun drawn. How much more fucking warning are niggers supposed to need than a police officer pointing a fucking gun at them before they decide charging at them is a stupid idea? If someone pointed a gun at you, I doubt your first instinct would be to lunge at them, like he very fucking clearly does.

It amazes me that BLM retards will look at that video and think it supports them.
>>
>>47280225
You think that's bad? Look up Mario Woods, dipshit rushes cops after stabbing somebody, and now he has his own day dedicated to racial tolerance, and people calling for SF's police chief to resign. Because some of his officers shot a guy who just stabbed someone, and then decided to try to stab the cops that were there to arrest him.
>>
>>47278900
I've heard of four of those rules. But #4 is retarded. Not all guns even have safety switches - for example, Glocks don't, unless you count that trigger safety of theirs.

Shooting an unarmed person is actually entirely reasonable in any number of circumstances.

There are literally hundreds, potentially thousands, of recorded incidents of police and military security forces not shooting an unarmed civilian assailant, the assailant taking the weapon of the cop/security personnel and then shooting the cop and/or others.

There are a shitload of actual unlawful police shootings due to either incompetence or maliciousness, but plenty often the retard had it coming.

Police (like everyone with a gun) are responsible for the disposition of every shot they fire. "Warning shots" have to end up somewhere, and misses don't miss everything. One of the rules of responsible self defense is you only ever fire in an attempt to remove the threat.

Had the dumbass in question had a gun, would a warning shot have removed the threat before he could shoot the cop? No.

>>
>>47276966

Back when I was in High School our liaison officer gave a lecture about policing in our history class and similar questions came up, his response was along the lines of:

"A fire arm is a lethal weapon and should never be employed as a non-lethal one, it is the ultimate escalation of force and attempting to use it in another manner may get other people, yourself, a bystander or the person you intent to wound or warn killed"

take a second to think about the shit storm if a cop used a wounding shot to incapacitate a non-compliant suspect and then they bled to death or where crippled for life

And as far as the number of shots fired goes:

"You can never be certain that a single shot is going to kill someone, you keep firing until they go down and the threat is gone"

IMO the problem with so many of the highly publicized police shoots isn't number of shots but how quickly an office escalates to lethal force, ideally they should only employ their firearms when they perceive a clear and present danger to themselves and others, and unfortunately "perceive" doesn't always mean "exist", but cops have to make split second decisions based off sketchy information, as in the original video, a cop gets called to deal with a theft, the thief then runs at the cop with a hand obscured in his pants and then pulls out something that looks like a gun so the cop blasts him.

Sad and avoidable? yes.

Justified in the context of the information available? Yes.

He fired twice or thrice in quick succession. It's not like he fired once, went over to check the junkies, then finished him off.

One is self-defense coming from reasonable belief that his life could've been in danger, the other is cold-blooded murder.

Circumference of rope x length.
You can find the length by untying the rope and measuring it, the subtract the area used by the length of rope used to tie the knot.
>>
>>47284741
I would guess you take the circumference as the length of the rope, get the 'radius' from 2pi*r.

Area then is pir^2

Circumference of the rope IS its length, buddy.

The expression you gave there is 4*pi^2*r^2 which ain't an area.
>>
>>47284741
It's a circle, not a disk.
E.g. in the spherical geometry again, every geodesic line (the equivalent of a straight line, i.e. circle of max length) is the boundary of two equal-sized parts of the sphere's face, neither easily defined as the interior or exterior of the circle.

Non-Euclidean geometries are trippy.

>DM mocks us both OOC and through NPCs
>"Why are all players so stupid?"
>"Why can't players ever do things that are smart?"
>"Lol why are you all so stupid"
This is a dilemma I have faced ever since I started gaming. The only way to win is to ignore everything and plan properly.

Also, there are a lot of reasons why people don't make great decisions in roleplaying games.
>All information comes from DM's voice, may be incomplete or inaccurate
>DM often fails to make it clear what info is important or relevant
>Being engaged in the game means being pumped and not thinking clearly, easy to forget things
>Need to filter everything through lens of what a PC might know or believe
>Time pressure, because others often dislike wasting game-time on problem-solving, and start groaning after 10 minutes of thought
>DM takes hours or days to construct problems, wants to make it hard, yet expects us to solve them in 5 minutes or less
>>

Not true. Imagine you have a slack rope hanging and tied like that - and then you increase the distance between the portals. The rope would tighten.

Also, my brain hurts now.
>>
>>47285159
Portals vanish from moving surfaces.
>>
>>47283920
I will point out that the rope is sitting in the air with nothing visible to support it. That means we are in one of two situations:
- A zero gravity room.
- Those two portals aren't linked to each other. Instead each visible portal is linked to a portal that is off-camera.
>>
>>47285159
What stops the rope from falling to the bottom of the portals ?

>who's not even much of a physical threat
The only prudent course of action is to assume someone charging at you poses a threat. He's a fit male in the athletic prime of his life. And anyone would be a threat if they're close enough to try to take your gun.

Charging at a cop who has a firearm trained on you is quite simply suicidal. Pretending to have a gun to get the cops to shoot you is literally called "suicide by cop" for this reason.

Surely not keeping a round chambered (which I also think is stupid for a carry weapon, but this is Canada) also counts?

>>47282180
What part of "not all guns even have safeties" missed you? My sidearm literally does not have a safety switch. If you pull the trigger and a bullet is in the chamber, it will fire. There is no switch that makes that not the case. My safety is keeping it safely holstered and handling it in a safe manner. Which you, you know, should be doing anyway, therefore a safety selector is utterly redundant.

I do use the safety on any firearm I have that has one, out of an abundance of caution, but it's hardly a cardinal rule when major and popular brands often forego even having a safety selector.

This. A firearm is a lethal weapon. "Warning shots" are retarded. "Shoot to wound" is Hollywood logic. If you are firing a weapon at a person, you have already made the decision to end their life - the gun is just the means to do that.

There are lots of cases of police getting people hurt due to bad training or """racism""" - this quite simply is not one. Even that retarded BLMlike video said he held his hand out as if he had a gun.
>>
>>47284512
"Drinking alcohol" does not inherently lead to "getting drunk." Getting drunk in public is pretty fucking stupid and you absolutely should be held responsible for what you do then. In fact, getting drunk in general is a pretty bad idea. Drinking alcohol in moderation is just fine.
>>
>>47287645
>Surely not keeping a round chambered (which I also think is stupid for a carry weapon, but this is Canada) also counts?

By law, you can't have your firearm loaded anywhere it is not legal to discharge said firearm. You can't carry a pistol around without authorization, which usually goes to people in protection jobs (such as armoured car drivers) and those working in wilderness areas. Theoretically you could get a carry weapon, but it's very rare unless you can prove that there is a verifiable threat to you and the police would be unable to respond (for example, if you have a stalker with a police record). Fortunately, we're not so terrified of the government that we insist that citizens should be allowed to dish out lethal force at will.

>Unfortunately, our royal overlords don't trust the plebs enough to allow us the means of effective self-defense
ftfy

In almost every state in the US, carrying a firearm in your own defense is a legally guaranteed civil right unless you're a felon or have a few other disqualifying criteria, though of course there are serious repercussions for misuse - even an improper brandishing is jail time and revoking of gun rights. But I think it's insane to have a law saying a carry weapon couldn't be carried in a useable state. As I pointed out, not all firearms have safeties, so are SIGs and Glocks just banned from use in Canada?

How many situations are you in where you need a gun? And how many of those crop up randomly on the street, and not at your home where you have access to your weapon?

It always surprises me how amazed Americans are when they find out that most nations aren't living under such fear of assault in the streets that they insist that having a loaded gun on their person at all times is a right.

Also, no. As I said, your gun needs to be unloaded unless you're shooting, so you could have your SIG or Glock and it would be perfectly safe.
>>

>How many situations are you in where you need a gun? And how many of those crop up randomly on the street, and not at your home where you have access to your weapon?
Even anti-gun advocate organizations admit that defensive gun uses happen tens of thousands of times per year. More middle of the road estimates put them at 200k-300k times per year.

I'm sorry you don't think people should have a right to effective self-defense, but this has nothing to do with being American. I think people's lives have value, and that they are worth protection. I'm sure the police will be just minutes away should you get mugged by a very polite robber who lets you stop and call them, though.

FWIW, I do have a family member who had to draw their carry weapon, though no shots were fired. It turns out most people tend to just run for it when you point a gun at them, preventing anyone from being hurt. Who knew?

If you stop using Kleck and Getz, you see how rare it is. And though it does happen, it is a false conclusion to declare that these situations required a firearm to be resolved, especially in a peaceful manner, and especially when you compare it with statistics of accidental gun violence. I think people's lives have value, and they are worth protection, including from non-peace officers who think they should be the ones using lethal force as they see fit without any real training in crisis management.
