Barracuda, Nightwing, and Thunderbolt
>>
>>47245591
technically all of their equipment would be considered relics

exitus weapons/spy mask
c'tan phase blade/neural shredder/polymorphine
animus speculum/etherium
executioner pistol/frenzon/sentinel array

like, they're all [Temple Assassin], just with different sets of relic gear. Kinda like how in 2nd edition you had a basic [Assassin] that could grab whatever wargear it wanted.

Best are
>Crimson Hunter
>Vulture
>New SM flyer
>Barracuda
>Croissant

Worst are
>Blitza Bommer
>Tau FLyers
>Dark Eldar flyers

Everything else just lands in the middle somewhere
>>
>>47245566
Crunch-wise, Eldar win. Crimson hunters are great fighter craft. Hemlocks are good for ground assaults against anything thanks to psychic powers and the D.

The only thing he needs to be good is some form of ap2 for characters and rerolls for his attacks so he can actually chop up chaff units.

Give his neuro gauntlet rending, make his power-sword master crafted then give the assassin himself rage and hatred. Rage doesn't do anything it's just there for fluff.

That would be way too strong on him, can you imagine what he would be like with smash?

Not too surprising. The Interceptor Drones are pretty sweet, plus the thing has a networked Markerlight and Missiles to work with.

The Sunshark has always been a solid fightercraft.

Avenger
Thunderbolt
Lightning (Lightning Strike)
Marauder Bomber
Marauder Destroyer
Valkyrie
Vendetta
Vulture
Arvus Lighter
Aquila Lander

And that's BEFORE you add in all the space marine ones.

Why is everything Orks get severely overpriced?

>>
>>47246068
>2-3 wyverns
>not super competitive meta
fair warning, but wyverns are not very fun in any sort of casual setting
>>
>>47246102
its not that casual, we have a couple kinda powergamey dudes, thunderstar and KDK with all the power choices, then a guy who alternates between steel legion, cancercrons and knights. several ork playrs of varying levels and a dark angels guy i havent played much, off the top of my head.
its not tournament time all the time but its not fun n fluffy either
>>
>>47245826
>smash
>That would be way too strong on him, can you imagine what he would be like with smash?
Yes, I know, that's why I want smash, I want to WRYYYYYYYY the shit out of everyone.
>>
Not that they would ever get in range to do it, but could a priest and three crusaders tie up a knight's in assault for two turns? 3++ rerollable seems like something that loses mostly to weight of dice.
>>
>>47246163
potentially, but the risk of both stomps and 6's for D makes it pretty swingy

>>47246163

The knight have D attacks plus stomp, one lucky 6 and all your guys are gone with no chance of survival.

>>
>>47246200

>>
>>47246173
>>47246186
I guess hoping a 70 point unit could survive 3d3 stomps without a single 6 is a bit much.

Too bad making the squad bigger doesn't actually improve its survability any.
>>
>>47245709
>Dark Eldar flyers

The Razorwing isn't bad at all. At 130 points base it can come in, drop four large blast markers on an annoying infantry blob, then spend the rest of the game whittling down other squads with its Disintegrators. Or bring it up to 140 points and it can use its Dark Lances to pick off vehicles or harass other flyers, even if it just forces them to Jink. It's vulnerable to Interceptor fire, yes, but so is every AV10 aircraft in the game.
>>
>>47246250
Open to suggestions and changes at the moment since I haven't gotten him yet, why do you think morghasts would be better?

Why are sigmar skeleton models so sexy?
>>
>>47246221
Toss it on a bits site, of course.

Or give the spooky ghosts to a Crimson Slaughter player.
>>
>>47246329
>why do you think morghasts would be better?
won't have to fuck around with the saddle area
cooler head
comes with two
still less expensive than a single mortarch
>>
Of course Eldar would have the best benefits from Death from the Skies.

I'm fucking surprised Eldar didn't somehow benefit from Angels of Death too in some random way, despite the fact that it was marine only.
>>
What's currently the weakest race, i.e. the race with the fewest viable builds?
>>
>>47246444
Eldar are Allies of Convenience with Marines. They could theoretically pick up an Allied Librarius Conclave and use a bunch of Geomancy librarians to try and roll Shifting Worldscape, as well as provide extra Warp Charges
>>
>>47246475

CSM or Orks.

Counting build numbers is stupid as fuck. CSM, SoB, and Tau all have only one viable build, for example. But I think it's pretty obvious Tau isn't hurt by this while CSM is even worse than SoB.
>>
>>47246475
Orks are the weakest. They lack any sort of good anti-armor, along with a multitude of other gaps.
>>
>>47246484
>Tau
>One viable build

Is that what you call having a bunch of great units in every slot?

Even if you're talking maximum cheese you've still got the Optimized Stealth Cadre and Riptide Wings as separate things. Add Crisis Suits and Buffmanders to taste.

Again, that's competitive level though. An army of nothing but Firewarriors would still probably mop the floor with an Ork list.
>>
>>47246508

Nobody at GTs runs anything but Stormsurges and Riptide Wing. If you're going to include shitty Tau builds just because Tau are overpowered in general, you might as well say every army except 1 or 2 has tons of "viable" builds, including Orks (hurr Nob Bikers, Green Tide, Blitz Brigade, CAD, etc).
>>
>>47246508
you don't know what viable means mate
>>
>>47245573

IDK if that Black Library mega is still up, but IIRC it had the campaign books for 13th Black Crusade and Medusa campaigns
>>
>>47246561
That it's capable of actually functioning?

If you're going to say that Tau only have 1 viable build because people only bring 1 list to tournaments, then Chaos Marines have 0 viable builds.
>>
Just curious, how viable is a Razorshark Strikefighter with Advanced Targeting System for assassination?
>>
>>47246553
If you're going to include the best CSM or SOB list as 'viable', then I would certainly say that any Tau list that is as good as those is also 'viable'

A list doesn't stop being viable just because it isn't the most optimal for an army.
>>
>>47246581
>chaos marines have 0 viable builds
But that's true.
>>
>>47246614
Then tell that to >>47246484
>>
>>47246553
you say this and yet you claim csm and orks have 1 viable build as well. They have no viable builds then.

>>
>>47247134
I mean technically they aren't wrong, now that you mention it.
>>
>>47247134

Have an upcoming "beginners" tournament, 750pts, not sure what to run. Looking to buy a new army to get back into 40k and looking for advice one what to run.

Tournament limitations:

1 HQ or Lord of War
1 Elites
1 Troops
1 Fast Attack
1 Heavy Support
0-1 Auxilary (any ONE of the following : Elites, Troops, Fast Attack, Heavy Support, Fortification)

NO Super Heavies, Gargantuan Creatures, Mighty Bulwarks or Fortification Networks.

Also has to be "friendly" enough not the be veto'd by the TO's, but competitive enough to have a chance.

Need some help deciding how to kit out my sword brothers for my CC crusaders.

Right now they have a storm bolter and a lightning claw. (initiate has a power axe) I wanted to design them for challenges, and the unit is meant for killing scrubs in a gun line. So far the lighting claw has been helpful in most instances, but when he faces a target with high armor and T it does not do much. Sometimes my opponent will have a guy like that hidden in a unit of scrubs or close enough to get a challenge. I want to give him an extra attack with a power sword and also to make him cheaper. But I also wanted to give him a fist or a thunder hammer, but both cost a lot and if he dies before he can get a swing off, its pointless. I know if I fight army's with high Int like eldar, it does not matter. but as for everyone else or for just generally equipping him, wat do?

They don't, but they should get some in IA14.

You can also run a 30k mechanicum list against 40k lists with you opponents consent, they're decently balanced. You can get the 30k mechancium red book from the /HHG/ op.

No?

They barely survived the first one, and that was:
>pre-Horus

A second one would just accelerate their ass-kicking by everyone but Eldar, presumably.

Actually, what effect do Tyranids have on warp storms? And what do Orks use for FTL?

Automata are mentioned as animalistic relics in the cult mechanicus book. Presumably they're still floating around in limited numbers just like the leviathan dreads, storm eagles, baneblades etc for the rest of the imperial stuff.

The lines get a little blurry with mechanicum though, as folks turned a blind eye to "tech heresy" during the heresy, as we know it in 40k. I wouldn't expect any paragons of metal lol

>>
>>47249166
Okay. Lets address this piece of ignorance.

The Tau had skim drives and even back then the Skim Drives were not reliant on the Warp. They don't enter the Warp or interact with it. The Tau skim in the void between real space and the warp. That's why the Tau old travelling method did not get affected by whatever happens in the Warp (Warp storms, warp anomalies etc).

The Tau new method of travel doesn't even skim anything. It's just propulsion engines.

Old and new, the Tau do not rely on the warp to travel. They will be fine.

I have large CSM and Ork armies. Orks can do MSU with trukks, and have more viable units than CSM. To be honest I dont even see how its a debate, the Ork codex is noticeably better to build an army from. CSM just have nothing useful/worth the points - outside of Spawn and Sorcerers.

>>
>>47249356
Dude....

The 3th ED Tau got their skim engine from reverse engineering the wreckage of a mysterious alien ship on the moon of their home planet T'au. What species the ship belonged to was never revealed.

The Kroot were the guys who gained access to Orkish technological knowledge when their ancestors devoured Orks who crash landed on their homeworld Pech.

The Retconing of the Tau skim engines happened in their 6th ED codex.

Well Burning of Prospero is the first major Space Wolves engagement, he doesn't have rules yet, and that so happens to be where the Custodians and Sisters of Silence did a major action (Horus Heresy action, anyway).

Who knows, it could be, could be not. My assumption would be they'd do rules (they've already said they ARE doing rules and models, two years ago) and leave the models till Dark Angels and Blood Angels have gotten their Primarchs.

>>
>>47249413
Pretty good, only suggestions I'd have is cleaning up some of the rewards and maybe experimenting with the relic choices. For example, two greater rewards with impossible robe might be going a little overkill on survivability considering anything broaching that flying T6 2++ rerollable is likely a D weapon on a 6 which you just can't do anything about. Similar for the armor on the slaanesh prince, but I guess that is more related to how confident you'd be that the prince would stay alive before soulstealer just returns him to a full 4 W.

If you free up some points consider a ML on the herald, or maybe putting grotti on your nurgle prince instead of the bell.

What? It's allowed in his crazy limit. One Heavy (Broadsides) One Fast Attack (Pathfinders) and the rest are troops. Broadsides get +1BS and can dish out decent AT stuff. Possibly, though it's not a bad comparison. Both are essentially a case of a group spending more money on chasing investment in a profit making area despite diminishing returns, whilst letting unprofitable property collapse on itself without ever considering if lack of investment and lack of profitability is a spiral rather than a logical reaction.

that happens here where I live too, some areas of the city are lovely GDI green zone style utopias, others are hugely deprived and yet others look literally like the 'after humanity' pictures you get where nature reclaims a city. Their argument is that they can't spend on an area that doesn't produce tax but realistically who is going to open a business there until they spend money on renovating it?

My method of dealing with AV14 is to ignore it. What will a Land Raider do to me, snapfire its heavy bolter? Not worth worrying over when i can kill everything else. Spartans may be a problem, but i have never seen one outside of 30k. Every other AV14 can be hit on a lower armour value or has never seen a tabletop since the start of 7th. Anti-Air i was considering trying to get the Slaaneshi to use the Iron Arm Lash trick, even if it doesnt work its still 2d6 s7 shots, which should put a dent on anything that isnt AV12 all round. The Tzeentch or the Nurgle tables seem the best, Khorne is pretty lackluster and slaanesh isnt much better.
>>47250757
I've lost too many games due to slay the warlord point to go without giving tzeentchy as much stuff as possible, and he'll probably always be the warlord due to 3++ rerollable at worst. The slaaneshi armour is useful, armour is needed to help with all those skyfiring autocannons out there, although gravcannons are as bullshit as ever. Grotti doesnt seem worth the points, on the herald it'll never catch anything and anything the nurgle prince runs into is going to be IDd by the Balesword, the only use i can think of is against EW characters who will hopefully get a face full of nurgling ASAP and sit there the whole match. Any other suggestions for relics?

Fair enough, if you're not massing malefic rolls for cursed earth or taking fateweaver in the decurion for routine warp surges/grimoire somewhere then I can see just wanting to have a 4+ FNP in case things get touchy.

Grotti is more useful in skull cannon heavy line-ups but it almost always finds some use. Turning the slaanesh princes lash of despair into an instant death weapon on T4 is swell, and if you're spending rolls on iron arms you'll likely roll up an enfeeble as well.

My other relic suggestions would be try two greater rewards and skullreaver on the khorne daemon prince as well. If you get a bad reward just give the man BoB for rampage and watch him turn out two S:D hits at initiative 8 while hitting 7 other times as well. Paradox is also great for malefic tzeentch daemons as the guaranteed charges greatly enhances your psychic capabilities.

Also rolling tzeentch as warlord seems standard because that WL trait tree is BONKERS

I mean, i could buy a Fateweaver and use the same cookiecutter build as many people and be better for it, but i like the idea of how this army works. Backfield objectives capped by the tough herald and bulky plaguebearers with the Bell, and two Psychic Shriekers to keep squeaking at things to take advantage of the lower LD. Summoning isnt something i like, and i dont have the models to run serious summoning anyway. I could roll with some malefic, i'll do some trial runs with this list when i buy some more nurglings. I'm trying to keep the Khornate relatively cheap since everything is such pointsinks already, but if AV14 vehicles/GCs start causing problems then i'll take your suggestion. Not many Wraithknights around but as soon as i see one the D will be needed.

If i play 2000 points, this is what im planning instead, as a D-thirster is just that good

70-Herald of Nurgle, Greater Locus of fecundity
105-Plaguebearers, Plagueridden and Lesser Reward
270-6x nurglings

35-Furies

360--Tzeentch Prince w/ ML3, Flight, 2 greater rewards, 1 lesser reward, Impossibility Robes
250--Khorne Prince w/ Flight, Lesser Reward, Greater reward & Armour of Scorn
330--Slaanesh Prince w/ Flight, ML3, 2x Greater Reward & Armour

I highly they'd be able to fit an orbital markerlight system into that thing. They're likely to be quite big and not useful in regular combat use.

You'd be best off giving the Noise Marines CC weapons and a Doom Siren and having them be a close combat squad.

Sonic Blasters are best for a small squad sitting back on an objective, where the Lord will be wasted, and a Blastmaster is best taken as 2 in a 10 man squad with no other weapons, but they'll be shooting things much further away.

see thats better. no nobody dies of aids.
>>
>>47252286
dont they still only hit on 6s?
>>
>>47252286

I lost interest in full scale titan mathhammer when they gave them invisibility in melee and immunity to haywire, taking out the couple of reasonable ways for normal scale stuff to try to whittle them down without using D.

Maybe if they give them the titan hunter special rule that the tiger sharks had, letting them shoot through voidshields.

Contemptors (like several other things like fire raptors) are being 'made by an unknown forge world, but have been witnessed in rising numbers lately.'

the 1d4chan says that it is possible to get the Blade of the Relentless with the PF/LC combo, however battlescribe says no, so can I or can I not take the BotR with PF/LC.
sorry in advance if it seems to be a dumb question with the Two Melee weapon rule

Read the codex. Battlescribe is sometimes wrong about wargear options.
1d4chan page-authors are obsessed with crunch, so they're most likely correct.

Who cares? Eldar can one-shot a Warlord with like 1500 pts

new at 40k here, can some help me understand if I got this right:

- roll to hit
- roll to wound
- roll armor save or invulnerable (or cover)
- roll feel no pain

is this the correct way to play?

They've been wrong just as often as they are right. Every editor varies in their ability to understand or twist rules.

Yes

Supplements use the same wargear rules as the parent codex, so as CSM you can replace one (and only one) weapon with a relic.

So not knowing much about your dex, it sounds like you can't get BotR, PF, and an LC on one guy unless he started with three weapons to begin with. Does Termy armour give you three weapons? I don't Space Marine, loyalist or otherwise.

>>47253069
You have a Bolt Pistol and CC weapon, unless you get terminator armor, which swaps those out for a combi-bolter and power weapon.

I don't think there's any way to get more, barring nonsense like buying a bike and swapping out the bolter on that for something.

He'll do a quick stopover as a Titan Princeps First
>>
>>47253117
Is swapping out the combi bolters on bikes not a thing anymore?
>>
>>47252126
He chose to pass the mantle when he was crippled, instead choosing to become more of an advisor.
>>
>>47253142
Why would it be? And even if it was, CSM can't take a bike and termi at the same time, so there's still no relic + LC + PF.
