That's something a GM will work out when replacing someone within the target location. More common is to impersonate someone with authority to be present, or has been transferred recently. The decker gets involved by ensuring the digital documentation looks legit.

Also; you should have some serious Mission Impossible gear or magic. Why even bother, otherwise?
>>
>>47167844

MI shit is crazy expensive and generally of fairly limited utility unless you are playing a really specialized covert ops style game. Let's be honest most people talk about playing operators but when push comes to shove Pink Mohawk is the best.

Snowflake.

In-character, it's because she's albino (and got the name for that before SURGE got involved.)

Out-of-game, it's because I have some awareness about the silly character concept and it helps justify playing her by wrapping things in several layers of irony.

Lily Casablanca.
Of course it's a fake name, and of course it's not a chick. He's a face-mage who always felt that female faces could get away with more, and when he had to ditch Denver after betraying his team to the Tir for a large payoff and a few useful favors, he took advantage of biosculpting and gender reassignment being light on the Essence. Now he's settled down in Seattle, playing the "perfect teammate" with the aid of a bit of bioware and not a lot of shame, trying to use his new appeal and his acting skills to create a new network and "live life on easy mode", as he puts it himself.

He has enough money, at least.
It's a character element that he's far from right about it, but he's just right enough and just good enough at cherrypicking to believe that he's honestly won the game of life. That's the one thing that really risks exposing him despite his acting skills - he thinks all women are as entitled as he is, and he draws an artificially large amount of attention to how easy it makes his life.
>>
>>47169110
The Fuck.

He's an insane hobo street gun-adept who goes around on his custom motorcycle and pair of roomsweepers. His name comes from the fact that when he does anything, it's usually insane and stupid (still somehow working, though, like knocking out a pair of guards by spilling water near the toilets and slipping laxatives into the guards' drinks) usually making people go "the fuck?".

So this a completely bullshit "lol traps are hot amirite" meets redpill circlejerk? Because I can't see pretending to be a girl because "lol it's easier" being something people would do in the 2070s.

Even then you'd think he'd come up with a less dramatic way of turning on the easy button because honestly a twinky male face aka stereotypical elf could easily masquerade as a female without doing gender reassignment.
>>
>>47169110
Steel Rod, fully known as "Steel" Roderick Valentine. Was a car thief before Crash 2.0, switched to B&E afterwards.
>>
>>47169830
First of all, this is the 2050s, and as such social norms haven't dissolved under SURGE, metasapients and drakes. Older social norms are still strong back then, and even in the 2070's there's not complete, perfect equality.
Second off, he's neither twinky nor an elf (because not all faces are min-maxed), and on top of that he wants the disguise to be perfect so he can use seduction as a tool.
Third off, he's trying to hide from the Denver shadowrunning community and everyone connected to it, because they want him to hang for betraying his group to the Tir during a run against them.
You really seem scared of the concept, don't you? I know I might come off as autismal with this long rebuttal, but I knew that I was going to get shit for a character that actually makes logical sense (the actual character background is much longer) because it includes something that can be taken as "magical realm". The character doesn't arouse me in the least, and you can disbelieve that if you want to.
>>
>>47169404

>dissolved under SURGE, metasapients and drakes
SURGE, drakes, and metasapients are all extremely rare though, most people could go their entire lives without seeing more than two or three of them, except for Evo employees but they're a weird bunch at Evo.
>>
>>47171077
SURGE made a huge splash when it hit, started a new wave of discrimination and apocalyptic panic, and generally was perfectly well public knowledge. Not a lot of people were affected, but it definitely got a ton of media coverage - even more than goblinization in its first weeks, I'd assume, since all the world's media outlets would be more likely to believe such an outlandish story now that the Sixth Age had lasted for more than six decades.

Is there any way to "pass" marks on? A face uses social engineering to get a mark on their commlink. Can they then pass a mark onto the decker?
>>
>>47171401
Unless you're a Techno the answer is not really, but the good news is that depending on what it is, you may not need to.

If it's a file and you managed to get a mark, you are probably not going to have any difficulty in making a copy and passing it to the decker.

The exception is if you were somehow given the owner's mark. Then you can give marks away like crazy on everything on the device.
>>
>>47171077
>SURGE
>Extremely rare

It affected 1% of the population, IIRC. That's a pretty significant chunk, enough that most people probably knew someone who got hit by SURGE in at least a small way.

>>47171401

If you have a mark on the owner's icon, you can use Spoof Command to have the device use Invite Mark to give your decker marks. Otherwise not so much.

For files, though, all you need is a mark on the file to copy, edit, or delete. It's one of the better use cases for social hacking.

Question: I've never DM'd Shadowrun, but I've played the games and read some of the books. I'm about to pick up where our current DM is going to leave off, and I got 4 runs planned before handing the reigns back to him. The last run though I want the players to contract low grade FAB-3 and the Johnson bugs out on them and calls Knight Errant. The scenario would be Knight Errant closes down the entire block and players have to evade KE and break out of the KE barrier without being chased so they can get decontaminated/wait out the virus.

I want this 'run' to be fast paced where the players feel the KE noose closing in on them. I know UV light and AMP can detect FAB-3, but what other methods can I use for KE to track my players? They would have physical descriptions from the Johnson but that's it.

mages. FAB-3 eats ambient mana, so they can see if there is a mana ebb/void
>>
>>47173653
To expand on that, an astrally projecting mage or a spirit on the astral could cover a ton of ground very quickly, making finding those ebbs fairly easy. Combine that with aerial drone coverage that goes to investigate possible locations the players are at, and Knight Errant can scour the city thoroughly in a fraction of the time it would take in the physical world.

Of course, if the players do something like enter an extraterritorial zone where they don't take too kindly to nosy spirits, or someplace like a toxic zone that can cover up their auras...

Well, depending on how big it is; the party probably isn't creating a huge pocket with the trace amounts they're carrying. That said, any wagemage can crank out several F1 spirits and send them off hunting, and they'll still go very fast.
>>
I want to make an AI specifically so I can super fucking infiltrate areas normal organics can't.

Is this a fair enough idea?

I mean, spirits and mages are going to overlook the shit out of a drone body, and a drone body can stay still in a hidden position for hours.
>>
I'm working on a Black Magician character and trying to incorporate Left Hand Path sensibilities to the tradition, and a big part of that (and mentioned in the books) is rejection of social norms and rebelling against the status quo. What exactly does this mean in the context of the Sixth World, besides inverted crosses and Hail Satan? It seems more sexually liberated than now, depending on ones parent culture, so I doubt sexifying things adds any magical oomph (also it'd probably just make things uncomfortable).

Also, how do you modify that drone from B&B for personal transportation if Rigger Cocoon is a vehicle accessory and not a drone one?
>>
>>47175680

Consider filling these categories. Sometimes the first one is optional.

>Big, Illegal Gun
For when drek hits the fan. You might need to be able to damage a high-force spirit, or a cybered up troll, or shoot out the engine block of a speeding cargo van. These guns do that.
Automatics: Ares Alpha with APDS is an /srg/ meme for a reason
Longarms: Pretty much anything with a 12+ damage code
Assault Cannons: They're all big, can't really go wrong

>Solid, but not Illegal gun
Automatics: FN HAR/AK-97
Longarms: most Sporting Rifles, Remington 990, Remington 950

>Concealable Gun
Automatics: A nice machine pistol
Pistols: Heavy pistol, or something smaller if you don't have any Palming

Have some APDS, Stick & Shock, and either Gel or Regular ammo for each, depending on if you prefer nonlethal or lethal.

True enough, think I'm just a bit paranoid. My GM really likes black trenchcoat and often throws scanners (and damn spirits) all over our runs. He's caught us with mad scanners in skylights before, that run wasn't a pretty sight.
>>
>>47176799
>mad scanners in skylights

Jesus.

That's the point when seriously consider rolling an Unarmed biosam or investing in scanner-defeating weapons like Sapphire Knives, Streetline Specials, Shiawase Puzzlers, or HK Urban Combats.
>>
What would a typical Knight Errant team/squad be comprised of?
>>
>>47177030

Typically, KE works in pairs, much like modern police. A patrol is two guys, and detectives work with a partner. Pairings are made so that the two complement each other. I imagine this means you'll rarely see two mages or two adepts together.

If you're talking about a KE SWAT or HTR team, then I don't have a good source for that, but I'd imagine they'd be significantly larger.
>>
>>47175680
Generally, it depends on the firearm skills being taken, and the price range you are looking to go for. Let me start by skill type, then go into price range

PISTOLS:
>Low Budget:
2x Streetline special, vintage, personalized grip (440), throwaway weaons, nees a license
Defiance EX Shocker, Personalized grip (350), perfectly legal
Fichetti Executive action, suppressor, personalized grip (900), illegal, slightly less expensive than a stock light fire 75, good for plugging guards silently
Onotari arms violator, trigger removal (600) you need a smartlink system, but this weapon is the cheapest ass way of being accurate and getting a smartlink. Susceptible to hackers, needs a license
>middle of the road
Defiance EX Shocker, Melee Hardening, Personalized grip (850) same as above, only won't break when you smack someone with it
2x streetline special, vintage, concealable holster, personalized grip (740) same as above, only you can hide it better
Ares light fire 75, trigger removal, bayonet (top mount) (1350) taps guards even quieter than the Fishitty, illegal, smartlinked, susceptible to hackers
Savalette Guardian, extended clip (r2) trigger removal, foregrip, gecko grip (1155) basically a carbine, you can upgrade it from here, but if you want a rifle that can use the pistol skill, slap an improved range finder on top for an extra 2000
>high budget
I still recommend the street special for stealth holdouts, but additionally, you can sneak in a heavy pistol in a hollowed out commlink or something of the like, by adding unpowered breakdown (750). The MAD fooler is not there, but one can disguise a super warhawk as a particularly bulky tech item or the like. Additionaly, one can spring for ceramic components (not available at chargen) for 725 - 4000, that helps fool a MAD scanner, but this is incompatible with smartlinks or any "complicated tech" mods, so generally a vintage superhawk is the way to go when making your terracotta warrior
>>
>>47175680
If your team also does not have a decker, consider taking the AK-98 instead of the Ares Alpha as your illegal gat, as those have almost the same stats and the AK is vintage by default, so no hackers bricking your gun or detecting its icon with matrix perception
>>
>>47175680
This depends on whether you're a Pistols, Automatics, or Longarms kind of Shadowrunner.

I suggest a loud gun, your Ares Alpha, your AA-16, your Savalette Guardian with Extended Mags, Gas Vents, and a collapsible stock. The kind of gun you pull when you know you'll be going loud and you need the firepower.

You should also have a quiet gun. Easy to conceal and usually suppressed, this is what you carry on you when you don't want your gun to be spotted until you draw it and take a guy out. This gun can often be your "always carry with you gun" as well, just remember that suppressors are illegal. Machine pistols, Light/Holdout pistols, and you can carry a sawed off stockless double barrel.

Also valuable are throw-away guns which you can carry on runs where you might need to burn your weapon and leave it during a job.
>>
>>47177121
Generally HTR / hostage rescue have 5 members, 1 decker, 1 rigger (armored car or helicopter, corp's choice), 1 mage (combat, detection, or healing, depending on situation), and 2 (augs optional) gunmen. That is not to say that the other three cannot shoot, but these guys are specialists. As a GM, you want to make all of your enemies interesting, and HTR should be an interesting challenge (if not death sentence), so generally the 2 shooters are a breacher and a lmg suppressor. HTR teams use asymmetric combat, which means that they brick the Sam's ware with the decker, and stop the rigger's death-mobile with a choice lightning bolt. If the runners want to win, they generally need to engage in direct combat with their counterparts, much like how one uses their queen to keep the opponents queen from moving in chess.

A note on snipers:

Sniper HTR teams are different, as they stay far away from the runners, and utilize far more defensive tactics to the regular HTR team's offense play. You could see a marksman adept and a cybereyes spotter as a team, or any combination you can think of. However, for mot calls, the HTR snipers do not need to be called in unless the threat needs to be dispatched in 1 shot, for example in a hostage situation. So if your runners get smart and take Bob Bigwig the corp hitter hostage, if the corp cannot afford to lose him they will stake out and surround the building, and only rush in as a last resort if the snipers fail to pop the heads of the runner holding a gun to the head of Mr. Bigwig.
>>
>>47175680

Pistols-
Non-Lethal Option- Defiance Taser
Light Pistol- Executive Action for the BF
Heavy Pistol- Savalette for the BF and Predator for the rule of cool
Machine Pistol- Steyr TMP for low cost spray and pray with FA
SMG- Ingram X because it's an easy way to get legal supressor
Assault Rifle- AK97 for Restricted and decent damage code and cheap enough to dump
Go-time Rifle- Ares Alpha is illegal as fuck but if you gotta kill something it's a solid option
Shotgun- Remington 990 for legal boomstick
Mossberg for maximum bangbang
Sniper- Desert strike for long range killing and EBR for flexibility
>>
>>47177367

Hrmm I typically go with 10 squads + 2 support personnel that typically stay with the vehicle (Driver + Vehicle Gunner)

Field Commander running the PI-Tac
Combat Decker
Mage/Shaman
Drone Rigger
LMG or Grenade Launcher Gunner
4 Gunners
Field Medic

Roll20 is your best bet probably. /srg/ has some people who might be looking, but we are a flaky group of people. Playing the straight man is a lot of fun in Shadowrun because of how wacky your other runners tend to be.

How straight man can you be in Shadowrun? Now I want to make an ex-Lone Star beat cop who got fucked over and made to take the fall for his superiors.

>>
Does anyone have Serrated Edge, Amber Waves of Grain or Killing Pawn?
>>
>>47178323
Our group was both very pink mohawk and surprisingly generally moral - not killing unless it became necessary, for instance. We had a troll DMPC that was adored by one and all for his ability to take copious amounts of drugs and distract cops by stealing their cars.

And then most of our group ended up ded or separated, and my character lost control of his legs. Pretty dark end for what had honestly been a fairly lighthearted game.
>>
>>47178388
Yeah, one time our team planned to kidnap a persons mother to blackmail him, and my elf bio-sam shut that shit down and we had to think up an inferior plan as a result.
That elf was fun to play in that he was really really good at killing shit, but he hated killing shit and just wanted to live a normal life. At one point he spent three rounds trying to stabilize a dying guard who had taken a stray bullet and was bleeding out in front of him instead of picking up his rifle and providing sniper support.

I allow it at my table, since ghouls are stated to go blind due to the formation of cataracts, not a deficiency of the optic nerve.
Also, apparently Reduced Sense(Blind) DOES work, but only as the critter weakness Reduced Sense in SR5 which states the creature could just have a weak sense or be totally deprived of it.

Question,

as a GM for 4th ed, am I justified in telling my players that im not allowing them to play as changelings?
I want a fairly grounded, realistic game as opposed to pink mohawk, but one of my players told me they plan on playing an awakened SURGE character.

Iunno, am I being a dick? I feel like I might be.
>>
>>47182193
You're not.
Special characters are special for a reason, and you should feel perfectly entitled to forbid them for any reason or none at all.
You can tell your player that you want more centralized themes, that you've had bad experiences and want to play it safe, that you just personally don't like them, that they hurt proper and relatable characterization through being defined by their specialness, or you can just sit down and talk to him about it, making it clear that he's not going to play it if he can't properly pitch it.
You're never a dick if the game hasn't begun yet. If the player can just up and walk away, you're not putting them in a bad situation or deceiving them, you're just asserting your right to run the kind of game you want, just like the player has the right to play only in the games they want.
"Player agency" is a buzzword nowadays that's used to conceal diluted, Wil Wheaton-tier handholding made to make Tumblrspawn and Facebook rejects feel like they're being "cool and geeky" without actually having to risk failure, dissapointment or consequences from being an asshole towards the GM. You're the one doing the most of the work, and you're the one who controls the themes and plot of the game. If the player doesn't want to play along, he's hurting everyone else - he's hurting your intended game, and through that he's pushing a more diffused, argument-filled and decentralized game on the others.
Tell him whatever you want, as long as you don't do what some "ebin trolls" on here do and sit him down at the table before trying to shit over his character five ways to Sunday.

There's a handy advice sheet in the pastebin in OP. I've attached it here too. It's pretty solid stuff; I'm also new to GM'ing SR (I've done D&D for years now) so it seems to be a lot more freeform, more reliant on description of areas and players to come up with imaginative solutions.
>>
>>47182193
I hate to agree with 3e fag, but >>47182254 is right in his first line, if nowhere else.

SR is a game that benefits greatly from making characters together, in close concert with the other players and the GM. There's no problem if, during character creation, you ask that people stick as the 5 core metatypes. It's a dick move if you let your friend build his character, then reject it because you don't like SURGE.

Side note, you may be able to work out a compromise depending on what you feel is 'grounded and realistic' and what the player wants to make. There's plenty of nastiness in what SURGE can do to someone, and how they're treated by society. They don't all have to be sexy catgirls, they could be some freak dealing with racism in a way even trolls don't face.

Generally when people hear SURGE, they think either minmax or snowflake. It's rare to find people who don't want to go all-in when making a SURGE character, not just a regular dude with weird skin- they either have a plan to pick certain characteristics to squeeze out every last die they can, or they want to play some coherent, inevitably-beautiful new 'species'. If you tell the GM that you want to roll on the charts and play whatever comes up, they'll likely go for it.

I've actually got no problem with the latter, I'm not a sperg who whines when someone wants to use the options the game presents for unique biology, but it can be eye-rolling when someone shows up with what is clearly a serial-filed-off anime character.

Got a couple things:

The Scythe is an Exotic Weapon, so unless you've houseruled it with your GM, Blades doesn't cover it and you need a separate Exotic Weapon skill.

You've don't have any specializations. Heavy Weapons (Machine Guns) is an obvious one, maybe Pilot Ground Craft (Motorcycle). Perception (Visual) generally also gets a lot of mileage.

If there's any more way for you to get Recoil Compensation, you might want to. Machine Guns take double Recoil penalties. Also, you decided against the Assault Cannon?

I think Wired Reflexes 2 might be overkill for this build, honestly. Pre-Jazz, your Initiative always gets a 2nd pass but rarely (~35%) gets the 3rd pass. Post-Jazz, you'll nearly always get the 3rd pass but rarely (~30%) get the 4th pass.

With WR1 (and like, a Rating 1 Reaction Enhancer to make snake-eyes roll 11), you're still guaranteed the 2nd pass pre-Jazz and practically guaranteed the 3rd pass post-Jazz.

What I'm saying is you could pretty safely go down to WR1 and use that nuyen and Essence for things like more STR/AGI boosts, maybe a Reflex Recorder or two, stuff like that.

Odd levels of Body are generally better, since they're the ones that give you extra condition boxes. You could put a point of Body into STR without losing much.

Unless you already bought them with Karma, the single skill points in misc skills probably aren't worth it. It' generally more efficient to pick those up in-play later and specialize a little more at chargen.
>>
Playing a street level game and just came upon a windfall of 80k nuyen. Any must have 'ware or equipment for a gunbunny/face in that price range? Smartlinks and guns have been painstakingly acquired already.
>>
>>47184335
80k personally, or for the team?

Assuming personally, I might reccomend tailored pheromones. Really helpful for the face occupation, and let's you worry less about social limit dropping with essence dropping
>>
>>47184376

Muscle Toner (you can get Rating 2!) or a Reflex Recorder for gunning better. Actually you could even afford Rating 3 Muscle Replacement for +3 AGI and +3 STR at a pretty steep Essence cost.
Tailored Pheromones for Facing.

Thanks. I incorporated your changes; used the saved money from WR2 for some extra bullets and misc gear, and upping my other 'ware. Kept a couple points in Blades just so I have some recourse if I leave the monstrosity at home-good catch on the Exotic skill.

And yeah, after talking with the GM it seems like I won't be fighting many tanks, so the HMG is a better choice overall.

>>

Tailored Pheromones is generally solid but keep in mind that if you aren't always facing it might have less overall utility than doing something for your agility.

Used or Omegaware (if you are using that option) Muscle Toner 3 is 11R and 72,000 and is a massive powerup for a gunbunny. It's probably the biggest combat powerup that you can get for a street campaign.

The other major option is used/omega toner 2 plus used wire 1 which is 77,250 and pretty easily found with even a mediocre negotiation test.

For street campaigns wired 2 is pretty rare and being able to avoid having to spam Jazz or Kamikaze is pretty nice.

Depending on your GM WR 1 cannot be stacked with Jazz or Cram.

Some people go with the interpretation that WR is incompatible with any source of augmentation including drugs and magic not just incompatible with other bioware and cyberware (other than reaction enhancers).

So in short you need to check with your GM before going Jazz + WR 1.

It says 'exotic weapon' in the fluff text describing signature weapons, but nowhere in the rules for the Collapsible Scythe itself does it say that it is an exotic weapon.

Meanwhile, pic related is from the next page, and shows the two ways CGL says that weapons need exotic skills- as subheadings for the weapon, or putting in the weapon's textblock 'This weapon uses the Exotic ___ Weapon Skill.' Their lack of even basic consistency in formatting is frustrating, but at least there's something definite.

Counterpoints:

Herolab has a better line for rules clarifications from CGL than we do.

Scythes (like chainsaws) aren't actually designed as weapons like spears and axes are.

That being said, I don't think counting it as a Blade is unreasonable. The decision is best left up to your GM, in my opinion.

True and true. I can't find anything online by any devs where they talk about the scythe, so I don't know if the Herolab people asked for clarification, or if they just guessed based on the section. Without even that, I can see why an Exotic Skill is a possibility, but I wouldn't say it's the correct interpretation. Still, that's up to my GM to sort out.

I want to tickle a catgirls belly!

I mentioned this last night in passing, but I ended up making my former-lone star runner.
His backstory is that he was a member of a Lone Star anti-gang unit in Atlanta, during a raid he ended up getting hit bad with a nail/pipe bomb, almost ended up dead but he pulled through. In order to get back on the beat quicker, he accepted partial muscle replacement and bone lacing. During his recovery period and time serving in the gang unit, he also developed a mild addiction to Jazz. After returning and being the butt of many Robocop jokes, he uncovered pretty significant corruption in the higher ranks of his precinct. While trying to investigate this, he ended up bringing his findings to a member of the corrupt cops, and as a result, a lot of illegal shit went missing from the evidence lockup and footage surfaced of him selling all of it to gangers on the street.
Now he's on the run, running in the shadows to get the contacts and resources needed to clear his name/take down the Lone Star captain who framed him.
Despite his status as a criminal, he does his best to only escalate a situation if necessary, using less than lethal weapons, intimidation, and restraints to minimize loss of life, especially those of fellow officers/security guards.

But that's significantly different from any other weapon. Something I've noticed about the Exotic Weapons (at least in Melee) is that they are generally things that have a high possibility of hurting you if you use them wrong -monowhip, kusarigama, chainsaw, etc.- or they are shields. A scythe is an unusual polearm, but it still follows a lot of the rules of polearms, and you see lots more people in history who figured out how to use scythes in battle than you see using whips or shields as their primary offensive weapon.

Yeah, but at the same time, the Shadowrun scythe is explicitly supposed to be a grim-reaper inspired harvesting scythe which is not a historical weapon at all (unlike the fr more practical war scythes in your reference image).

And before you ask, I've seen the fencing manuals detailing reaping scythe combat - it's mostly a "this is what you can do if some asshole challenges you to a duel with farming tools" manual rather than a serious exploration of the scythe as a weapon.

The collapsible one uses blades, the same way regular polearms do.

>>47190259 is correct in that the intention is obviously to use it in 'harvesting' arrangement as opposed to the way they have set the blade in the picture I posted. However, my broader point about what CGL seems to generally use as qualifications for whether or not something is Exotic - (if it has a high likelihood of incorrect usage hurting the wielder, or if it's something entirely different from what people think of as weapons) and that while scythes require some specific knowledge to use in war it's not impossibly different from other polearms that there there could be no crossover of knowledge - still holds up.

>if it has a high likelihood of incorrect usage hurting the wielder, or if it's something entirely different from what people think of as weapons

I like that point quite a bit, but I don't think it clarifies the scythe issue. Here's why:

You use chainsaws as a "this weapon can hurt the wielder" example, but it doesn't have rules that support that (as compared to the monofil whip).

Page 448 of the Core Book is the first place chainsaws get a mention as an Exotic Weapon, and that's because they are "too unwieldy to make a good melee weapon."

Harvesting Scythes are also really fucking unwieldy compared to a typical polearm. The blade basically points the wrong way.

But as I said earlier, there's definitely not a clear answer and I'd really love some explicit confirmation either way. I see adequate justification for both interpretations and in the meantime it should probably be left to individual GM's.

Seeing as it's not a legal weapon for chargen, it's hardly worth taking Restricted Gear for, and the stats aren't super impressive, it's not even going to come up often.

What weird-ass rules should we argue about next? I like how Spellblades make hardly any sense at all.

They're super goofy mechanically. Hits on the spellcasting test don't really do anything (unless you roll too good and take Physical Drain), Manablades are terrifyingly powerful and Powerblades are just sad.

Also, are they a Combat Spell? Does it matter?

I love the fluff concept though. Wizgangers motorcycle jousting with magic lightsabers should be an integral part of anyone's Shadowrun random encounter table.

And when you wake up in that cheap motel room with an indeterminate quantity of dead hooker parts strewn around you like some sort of meat nest and an altar to Maria Mercurial made of spinal cords in the shower cubicle, just remember to hang in there, be positive, and go for the eyes.

hey /srg/ help me understand something. im just getting into the game and I want to make a mage, im still reading through the book and I know their are variations and expectations but as a general rule magicians are the spellslingers, adapts use magic to buff them selves and mystic adapts are a mix of the two right?
>>
>>47192262
First off what edition?
>>
>>47192169
Oh, never mind, looks like grenade smoke dissipates a lot faster. You'll only kill someone with tear gas if you have a code of honor.
>>
>>47192262
Basically.
>>
>>47192262
Adepts, first of all, not adapts.
Mages can cast spells, summon spirits, and do enchanting/alchemy. Aspected mages can do one of those.
Adepts buff themselves with permanent and temporary powers, yep.
Mystic Adepts are mages who cannot astrally project, but can buy power points (and with those adept powers) with karma.
>>
>>47192270
my bad, 5th edition.
>>
>>47192262
Sorta-kinda.

Mages cast spells, summon spirits, and can create magic preparations. Some of those spells are capable of buffing themselves or others.

Adepts get magic powers which provide active and/or passive benefits. Mechanically these powers are very similar to augmentations.

Mystic adepts are capable of doing everything mages and adepts can do, but trying to do all of that spreads them very thin.

/tg/'s been too fast in the past couple days.

I've been wondering, if a drone's speed is never determined by its agility (when you give it legs), how is it calculated in combat? Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, but I can't find how to translate vehicle acceleration and speed into combat speed when fighting normal people.

The marginally better new speed rules somehow didn't get make it into Rigger 5, but the freelancer who wrote them posted them somewhere on the forums.

>>47193956
I know you can make a ground drone move at the speed of 14. If that chart goes on the way it does, that's 98,304 km/h.

Is a stay at home rigger a viable thing in 5e, or do the mechanics screw it over?
>>
>>47194408
noise is a thing which ruins stay at home matrix-ing these days
>>
>>47194430

On average, how much would one be facing? I know there are noise reduction countermeasures, which might help, but I'm just wanting to know if, like, -10 to all drone related rolls would be a thing
>>
>>47194408
>>47194430
>>47194542
for host hacking, i believe there isnt a penalty.
For non-host targets, at least -1, like average 5 iirc, up to 10 max.
>>
for a mech-face is it better to go cyberarms or muscle replacements?
>>
>>47194570

Alright. I'm mostly wanting to effectively live vicariously through drones (long story), so almost exclusively drone related skillsets. But I also want to make sure it's not gonna be limited to an absurdly short range.
>>
>>47194645
Here's the chart for matrix noise distance, most of the time a "stay at home" decker or rigger will be in the 10km-100km range, which is 5 extra noise.
Antennae ears, a datajack, the signal scrub program, high rating RCC, and a satellite dish (which caps distance noise at 5) can help mitigate this.

Well, in that case, it doesn't seem too hard to get your noise reduction down. Didn't I read something about wallpaper you can line a room with for noise reduction as well?

I dunno, even up to -8 doesn't seem like that big of a deal

Though now that I think about it, there are other forms of noise reduction, such as rain, spam zones, jammers, and shit like that, but they'll be issues even with tag along riggers too.

Next I just need to figure out which drones to actually get... damn I need to really give rigger 5 a read.

>>
>>47190827
Get a backup gun with an underslung flamethrower? A good ole shotty for when things get a bit too personal for grenades?
>>
>>47194745
No, that wallpaper is to add noise to anything outside the room coming in.
The main thing is that while other riggers use their noise reduction to counter rain, spam zones, etc, you're going to have to counter and extra -5 on top of that, which isn't hard to counter on it's own, but the second you get hit with a directional jammer you've got and extra 3-6 noise to deal with that you can't compensate for because you're using all your reduction on distance noise reduction.
>>
>>47194430
Noise, an average Host's rather insane dicepools and to a lesser extent Overwatch Score makes stay-at-home decking challenging. Not impossible, but challenging.
>>
>>47194911
In the case of hosts, you could always have your crew plug a datatap into what they need hacked, presumably the tap can be accessed wirelessly (since everything else in the fucking world can) to bypass host firewalls.
>>
I'm throwing a security team at my players this upcoming session (5e game),

They've already tripped the alarms, alerting the goons to their location and they know they're on their way, they have to wait for their decker and rigger to retrieve a file from a server.

It's a party of 4 players with fairly powerful characters, so I'm thinking around 6 or 8 corpsec goons (nothing too serious)

I'm thinking of a leader/decker that coordinates the rest of the team, has a fairly strong PAN with a few team wireless devices slaved to it

A heavy with an assault cannon

two or three rifle wielders

A rigger

And possibly a hermetic mage.

How does /srg/ do encounter building?
>>
>>47195092
Can you PAN and run in stealth mode?
>>
>>47195092
This was mentioned before but the big three things to compare:
>PC numbers and enemy numbers
>PC initiative and enemy initiative
>Enemy attack pools vs. PC defense pools
If the enemies are inferior in all aspects, the PCs are going to stomp them.
If they are on par in most aspects, or the enemy are superior for one, par on another and inferior in another, you'll have a roughly equal fight.
If the enemy is on par for most and superior in one, it will be a tough but possible fight.
If the enemy is superior in all of them, your PCs are going to die horribly.
>>
>>47195137
Yes. Even a motherfucking Host and its whole WAN of linked devices can run in stealth mode if needed.
>>
>>47195092
tactics make things fun

shut down all of the lights where the runners are then throw in the gas and flashbangs if you really want to fuck with some heads.

rush the runners with spirits, drones, and suppressive fire.

Rigger can fuck off and dick around somewhere else. If he's a spider he can use the building's in built defense like its killer coffee machine or vending machine with assault rifles hidden in it. The mage can counter-mage somewhere safe. Make sure he doesn't stand out and looks just like your average dude with a gun so he doesn't get geeked first. The guy with guns do what guys with guns do. Also have a "commander" who knows how to utilize small unit tactics. Also combat drugs for EVERYONE, no one gives a fuck about addiction.

Also what corp are they fucking with?

that also works, will totally fuck with the decker and rigger as they are then forced to deal with the spider in the matrix and save their meatspace friends.

However this takes away any fun from the other guys who are geared and spec'd up for combat.
>>
>>47195387
Do it like in the "Hong Kong" game, put 'em on a timer. Murdertroll the murder troll can murder a way to the exit for the group while Datajack oveerides the drones to deliver their sleep gas somewhere else. Preferably in the spider's control room, for shit'n'giggles.
>>
>>47195387
>However this takes away any fun from the other guys who are geared and spec'd up for combat.

They get to experience the joys of SR5's barrier rules as they try to shoot their way through the door and/or walls.
>>
>>47195387

So, pull a GLaDOS. Have the enemy team burst in there with hermetically sealed suits while the venting starts.

>hey guys, just got a command coming in. Doors are locked and they've started venting tear gas! Looks like it will take 60 seconds for the tear gas to be vented from its housing, Through the building, and into this room!

The decker feels useful because the only way they would have seen that is if he was in their system, it gives the meat team usefulness because they need to protect the decker while he tries to stop the tear gas, and it gives the whole thing a sense of urgency because there's a time limit (even if it is 20 combat turns, which will almost never happen)
>>
>>47195479
alternatively since this is MCT, drones. Immune to neurotoxin due to the fact they have no neurons
>>
>>47195492

Durr. I forgot about the drones. Yeah, that could work, but if they're delivering the delicious Neurotoxin, it van be dispersed immediately, and if they're fighting, not venting, then the team still has a HTR team to deal with after the fact.

Still, could work

So, I'm getting a job at an airport soon.
And a thing I notice first and foremost is GODDAMN is this place a shadowrun waiting to happen.

There's passworded high access areas. There's a wing of rooms that cost a fortune to rent out that are under high security locks. There's a fingerprint based ID card system. All employees get wide range access throughout the complex if they have an appropriate ID card. There is a centralized ID office with all the information and ID production facilities. Administration is handled by offsite facilities, and can be tampered through a much smaller building. The uniform is nothing special, and you could acquire it for a relatively small amount of money.

Do you think I would get in trouble if I mapped the place out and made a run module out of it?
Also, is investing in a slimline bulletproof vest as wise an idea as it seems?
>>
>>47196090
>Do you think I would get in trouble if I mapped the place out and made a run module out of it?

Maybe? Depends on whether or not your module is a rundown of potentially confidential security procedure. Also if it's easy to track that module back to your actual identity. Read your employee manual cover to cover once you start.

>Also, is investing in a slimline bulletproof vest as wise an idea as it seems?

Try checking if the airport's layout is easily available somewhere. If not, I wouldn't do it, or take inspiration but change the layout of your run.

>>
>>47196574
9/9 is the max (for humans at least), you can get to 10/10 by using redliner which gives you +1 STR/AGI per pair of cyberlimbs at the cost of removing a box from your condition monitor.
