So, are Tyranids and flying monstrous creatures obsolete due Death in Skies?
>>
>>47148995
No, why would they ? If anything they are better since flyers will be more common now and FMCs are good at taking them down.
>>
Soooo is the vendetta not a thing anymore?
>>
>>47148995
Nope, they get to ignore the Dogfight phase, role limitation and still do all their jobs.

Their only detriment is they don't have any flight wings.

There are some formation that hurt them though
Fighter in Intolerance pattern really tears the ass of flying nurgle princes with ignore cover.

700-points-of-CSM-building anon again. Basically I'm trying to get back into 40k and thinking of buying and painting 700 points of CSM while scoping out my local stores. Got some really good advice so far, here's where I'm at at the moment:

Sorcerer (Level 3, Terminator Armour, Spell Familiar)
10 CSMs with 2 Plasma Guns, Rhino
20 Cultists
Vindicator

This leaves me with 135 points left and I'm looking for suggestions - Spawn and Bikers have both been suggested to me, also thinking maybe Raptors?

I also really like the Terminator Sorcerer, but I'm not sure how to actually field him, ideas for that as well?

There is no good way to field a Terminator Sorcerer. Sorcerers on Bikes/Discs can roll with Spawn or Bikers, Sorcerers in Power Armor can roll in Rhinos, but Sorcerers in Terminator Armor are stuck sitting around with Cultists, being utterly ineffectual.

Land Raiders aren't even good for loyalists, and ours have less carrying capacity and no PotMS.

Space Marines are only good because they have crazy good formations and Grav Weapons. Even these new powers wouldn't be a huge deal if they didn't get to cast on a 2+ thanks to the Conclave. Most CSM units are just shitty knock-offs of loyalist units, our formations are garbage, and most of our unique units are also garbage. There are a tiny handful of good CSM units (Sorcerers, Chaos Spawn, Nurgle Bikers), a couple decent units (MSU Blastmaster Noise Marnes, Baledrake, Daemon Prince, the FW tanks and fliers), and that's about it.

Newish player here, I was looking to get into 40k as I have watched my friends play a bit and have been coached at small point games.

I want to play Daemons but mostly Khorne and some Tzeentch appeal to me.

Are those two gods a good combination and if not what are some decent proxies I could use for other gods' units to keep with the Khorney feel of my army.

My friend suggested I try Khorne Daemonkin but since I don't much like Space Marines aesthetics perhaps I could use the Chaos Armies from Age of Signmar
>>
How powerful would a Fire Hawks Librarian be if he was in the Legion of the Damned?
>>
>>47149358
All Tzeentch units are good, other than the Burning Chariot. Flamers are only really good in the Warpflame Host.

The good Khorne units are Flesh Hounds and Blood Thirsters.

Khorne units definitely complement Tzeentch units, although you're often better off just taking more Tzeentch units and then summoning Khorne stuff once the battle starts.
>>
Since the Vandetta no longer has skyfire, wha'ts the best AA option for IG ? Hydra batteries ? Shit is weak.
>>
>>47149312
>>47149351
Yeah, I had a feeling. Problem is, I quite like the Sorcerer and all the Sorcerer models other than the Terminator one are hideous beyond belief. My original intention was a fairly cheap support HQ that I could run with the Cultists and power up the rest of the army.

Thoughts? Advice for the rest of the army? Apart from pick something that isn't CSMs.
>>
>>47149412
Just play regular Space Marines with the CSM models is the best possible advice. CSM just aren't enjoyable to play with. Your marines are weak-willed pussies, everything is overcosted and ineffectual, and you're constantly going to be reminded of this every time you play a loyalist marine player.

Get a Fire Raptor for 1000 points. Look at running MSU Plagues with embedded Cyclopia Cabal sorcerers if you want to try Rhino rush. Nurgle Bikers are pretty baller, and a Nurgle Biker Lord is pretty much the only HQ we can field that won't get his shit pushed in by cheaper SM equivalents.
>>
>>47149381
Sadly enough, hydras. Your next best thing would allies, probably Skitarii Onagers with Icarus Arrays
>>
>>47149381

>cheap support HQ that I could run with the Cultists and power up the rest of the army.

Take either a cheap Lord to give your cultist blob fearless or a dark apostle.

Here are some good CSM staples that haven't been suggested.

>Obliterators
Very versatile and quite resilient you can give them MoN or MoT for extra resistance or just run them as they are.

>Baledrake
Even post nerf it still is the ultimate MEQ killer and is cheap. It is also decent AA with vector strike.

>Las Predator
Just good old fashioned anti tank, you can never go wrong with one

>Sicaran (FW)
Just says fuck to eldars of all sorts and overall better than a laspred at almost every levels. If you can, field one.

>Chaos/Renegade knight
Well it's a knight.

>Aegis defence line with quadgun
Underestimated piece of fortification right there. For 100 points you buy a 4+ cover for your cultists and a great AA gun for your support HQ to man.
>>
>>47148769

What do good IG lists look nowadays? Any more infantry lists around? It's been a while since I was last in this. Before the age of Sigmar shat all over WHFB, in fact.
>>
>>47149505
Yhea I want to know too, I'm currently building a mechanized IG list but I'm struggling with what to buy.
>>
>>47149116
So just add a unit of 3 terminators for him to roll with. Power axes. Also split the cultists into 2 squads of 10.
Deep strike if necessary, combi-meltas are useful.

That said I usually see either Tanks and Vetmeras or Infantry blobs with artillery support.
>>
>>47149449
Eh I had a Baledrake in the army originally, but people said (rightly) that I would look like a dick if I showed up day one with a flyer in a 700 point list (even if it is 700 points of CSM). Can't think what else I could take to round out the list though.

And before I decide on what to do with the sorc - what discipline do people usually take these days? Telepathy seems strong, especially if they're in a support / buff role.
>>
>>47149505
>>47149527
If you want infantry most will tell you to call your army Renegades.

What's good is what you can use to their full extent.

That said, cookie cutter IG is usually:

Tank Commander

2 x Armored Vets /w
Chimeras and vox-caster(for Artillery)

1x Vendetta

Culexus assassin

Emperors Wrath Artillery
Wyvern/Basilisk/Manticore, Command Squad /w Vox, and Tech Priest.

Add you own choice of toppings.
>>
>>47149576
Telepathy and hope for getting invisibility. You can also try Biomancy if you have a somewhat fighty sorcerer but I wouldn't recommend it. Everything else is trash.
>>
>>47149590
>not using deep striking scions for arty spotting
>>
>>47149590
Thanks, that's helpfull.

Since the Vandetta is now much weaker, is taking something else a good investment ?
>>
Fishing for feedback.

Working on a "Tzeentch Daemonkin" fandex, and this is the draft of the psychic disciplines. It's not going to have a "Blood Tithe" table equivalent, just a bunch of disciplines and some new wargear to turn regular Aspiring Champions into Psykers.

I went with D3 tables instead of D6 because it allows the tables to be more focused with less overlap. Flame is for mind dakka, Fate is for buffing with a focus on shooting, Deceit is for debuffs/utility, and Change is the mutation/melee discipline. Disciplines will have the same "up to half your ML on a single table" restriction from C:CSM.

For the purposes of Psychic Focus, psykers will get to choose the primaris from any of these disciplines.
>>
>>47149551
It's a psyker, you're better off trying to get your damage in somehow. Most psychic attacks are 24 inches or less in range anyway.
Besides, you don't have to deep strike the unit.
>>
>>47149619
Vendetta is just as good as it always has been, it just can't participate in "pay points for models that you might not field" phase which i feel is a good thing
>>
>>47149614
They don't anything for minimum troops.

>>47149619
Vendetta is and Attacks Fighter so it still kills ground targets good, but definitely some dedicated anti-tank.
>>
>>47149628
>>47149639

I thought that since its price hike, Vandettas were mainly taken as AA tools. But now they can't do that anymore...
>>
Some really good advice here, thanks /tg/.

>>47149501
>a cheap Lord to give your cultist blob fearless
Not trying to cause offense here, but what would be the point? At the end of the day aren't cultists just a sponge that can hold objectives? On the other hand, I do like the idea of using the Champion in the Cultist Assault box as a cheapish Lord.

Other suggestions look good though, thinking about running the Sorc with a couple Obliterators.

>>47149534
I do really like Chaos Terminators, but I gather they have a tendency to, well, die. I suppose a cheapish Biomancy lord in a deep striking Terminator squad is a neat idea. What is the "min max" way to field a Terminator Sorcerer?

>>47149608
Yeah that was the impression I got. I've heard some people use Pyromancy though, is it any good or shit too?
>>
>>47149639
fair enough
though you can get them for the cost of not taking the chimeras
>>47149619
i honestly doubt many people will be using the flyer rules aside from the formations (and you don't want to play people who bring those to any game below 2000 points) or for the novelty of it

if you want good AA you can take a hydra instead of a wyvren in the artillery detachment , the CCS can issue a hydra the ignore cover order making jink useless and the 2 things you are using the formation for (twin linked and ignore cover) is built into the wyvren by default so you can just use a heavy support slot for it if you still want to take one

Even in the Wulf-wank, anti-TS, anti-Magnus bullshit fiction, it shows Magnus suddenly understanding the gravity of what he'd done by bursting through all the barriers the Emperor had set beneath the palace in his construction of a human Webway. However, it sounds fucking retarded & is still the Emperor's fault for not communicating & ignoring warnings of Horus' betrayal & approaching armies.

Boo-fukken-hoo, Magnus broke a bunch of psychic mirrors or whatever that could be rebuilt--but only if Emps had listened to him & fucked up Horus.
>>
>>47149746
most fliers are AV10 or 11, so you're likely to pen or glance. and aren't hydras twinlinked?

>Boo-fukken-hoo, Magnus broke a bunch of psychic mirrors or whatever that could be rebuilt--but only if Emps had listened to him & fucked up Horus.

Actually, It's said that Magnus created a permanent breach between Warp space and reality forcing the Emperor or some else to have to sit on the Golden Throne and keep it shut or else the breach will expand and daemons and the destructive forces of Chaos would pour over earth and undo it.

>>47149915
The firestorm redoubt has skyfire, interceptor and the cannons are twin linked.
Also you can upgrade the vengance weapons batteries to have the same gun, I think it becomes cheaper and you have two different buildings rather than 1.

>>47149948
Twin linked and can upgrade to bs 3 easily. More than enough.
>>
>>47149963
It's 1 glance and 1 pen on average against AV10 flyers. It's pretty good for 70pts imo.
>>
>>47149116
>>47149412
In practice, a single Level 3 sorcerer can't do anything more than a Level 2 sorcerer can. You'll end up casting the same number of powers and it's a waste of 25pts in such a small list. Consider running Crimson Slaughter for the Balestar of Mannon because rolling on Divination is awesome and it's got a Spell Familiar built in.

You're not putting enough space marines on the table; for all the bargain Cultists seem like, know that they are as useful as Gretchin in practice and cost 2x. Maybe take them anyway. This is the actual great shortcoming of CSM. You can't afford to put enough spacemans on the table because your shit costs literally 150% what you could get from Space Wolves specifically, maybe more like 135% from the normal SM codex + AoD supplement. I digress.

Plasma guns suck because you can't assault after Rapid Fire, and you're playing assault marines. Which means you're running the Mark of Khorne and you've bought CCWs for every dude. Take one Melta, give the Champion Meltabombs. I recommend two squads like this, with 7 marines + 1 champion in a Rhino. Buy the Rhino a Dozer Blade.

Vindicators suck because 24" pieplates are useless; it will either be perpetually out of range or destroyed immediately. I know, you want the STR10 large blast. I know, it's sad. 2x Lascannon 2x Missile Launcher Havoc squad. Deploy in cover, enjoy actually destroying something with your boring ass big gun mans.

Advice for ~750pt games: Substitute all ideas of cultist squads with Helcult. Kit out the Helbrute with a Reaper Autocannon and Power Fist + Combi Bolter. Give both cultist squads Mark of Tzeench (yes really). This little formation is a dickhead in small games.

They do get to be useful for other types of shooting, so the cost is fair, but as a straight AA option they're worse than hydra

Fair points.

Stikkbomb chukka is same as the Flinga now, because it was dumb to leave it as-is when all Orks have Stikkbombs.

Zagstruk...huh. I guess a Big Choppa wouldn't bust him, but I'd raise his price by 5 points.

Most HQs already have it or access to 'Eavy Armor. Fixed some, like Meks & Painboyz.

MegaNobz have 2 HP.

Kommandos are specialized & tend to achieve optimal location. Points reflect balance & fluff of having to stay sneaky while carrying a flamethrower. May adjust anyway.

Ranged Weapon list has been updated; re-download.

Nobz in a Nobz mob are a different breed & threat than one embedded in Warbikers by nature of their company. Should Orks really get a unit of 43 point Klaw Nobz?

Smasha Gun added; re-download.

Gunwagons are for mobile Mek Gunz. New MGz are too small for a Battlewagon, too large for a Trukk.

Lootas have to haul around Deffguns. Also, Gitfindas are pretty special gear, & instead of allowing them, we just made Deffguns D3+1 (max 3). More hits either way, no price change.

You don't need to be omniscient to know standing next to psychic explosives when you have psychic sons who just might need to contact you is probably a really dumb idea. Wulfens are like that because you would never take them without their weapons, so the point cost has been balanced with that idea. They could have made 20 ppm with each weapon option costing 10 points more

Also I can't see which units can take the weapon (since I don't have battlescribe), but those weapons can only be taken by the Wulfen. If the Wolf Guard or other units could take them it would be OP, but as it is now you are paying either 38/42 points for models as fragile as the Hive Warriors or 50 points for units that are killy and resistant, but are only slightly faster than infantry units
If the Uge Choppa could already only be taken by a single unit/model ignore this part of the post

I don't really understand what you mean, but since the Space Wolves codex is really mid-tier outside of the TWC the answer should be obvious.

If not just bring an allied detachment.

since the scattering of the primarchs was supposed to be dangerous as fuck, occam's razor says they just died. maybe one pod landed on a gas giant, and another on a world full of tyranids or something. the two legions were stricken from history because space marines without a primarch were thought to be asking for trouble at the time
>>
>>47152962
sphess wolves made sure they were removed from history.
>>
>>47152975
IIRC the Ultramarines and Dark Angels simply absorbed their numbers because suspiciously those 2 had far greater numbers than other chapters.
>>
>>47152929
The new book contains all the relevant rules for all GW flyers (so not FW ones), and contains a formation that is 1-3 flyers making it incredible easy to take any flyer you want.

Remember you can take as many formations as you have points for.

None of the Primarchs were ever found. The Emperor just found twenty of the galaxy's most impressive men and quietly had them gene-seeded up before introducing them to the wider galaxy as his "sons".

Re-posting and cross-posting, because knights are expensive and I'd like to hear /tg/'s thoughts:

What's a cost-effective composition for a Forsworn Knight detachment? I'll buy like. . . A box of Renegade and one standalone knight. I'm thinking. . .
1x dual gatling, stubber, stormspear
1x reaper, thunderstrike, melta
1x ???

Gatling knight is there for maximum brrrt and to capitalize on preferred enemy if they bring a knight.
Melee knight is there to screen brrt knight and throw stuff.
For the last knight I don't know if I want to take a balanced composition, or maybe go triple melta (2x thermal, melta) to hunt TEQ and AV14

Should I suck it up and just field a trio of super gatling bros?

How come humanity was so woefully ignorant about chaos during and before the Great Crusade era, when any warp travel without an active Gellar field would result in daemons swarming into your ship and eating you alive?
>>
>>47154734

Maybe daemons ate everyone who found out about Chaos?
>>
>>47154734

This is a valid point: Every Primarch must've been on a ship with a malfunctioning field at least once.
>>
>>47154734
According to various HH fluff, the Legions DID fight Chaos. But nobody knew what Chaos was so assumed it was just another alien race. This changed when Ultramarines got attacked and the Daemons were just more wrong. I think Girlyman goes "oh so these are the things i've read reports of".
>>
>>47154734

They were much more reliable back when they were supplemented by the lost tech known as Sarah Michelle Fields.
>>
>>47154734

Not every daemon appears as a slavering monster.

Sometimes weird daemons just grab someone's body, possess it, and carry on with whatever weird-arse scheme they have in mind. It's hard to know why daemons do things because they are literally made of warp-stuff. We can't possibly understand their higher motivations.
>>
>>47154797

Ah yes, those Xenos who make the walls scream and bleed, and who pop out of nowhere sometimes when you're in the warp.
>>
>>47154734
The ships got taken over. Every single person would die. The ships then merge into Space Hulks or are spat out to drift in space. Or perhaps that quasi-Space Hulk which is Imperial/human that keeps randomly appearing, is those who didn't survive.

Who knows. They probably didn't survive until Geller made the fields which protected them.

Can you think of any case in 40k fluff where a failed Geller field resulted in the ship escaping?
>>
>>47154440
>>47154549
>Samefag

ITC only recently nerfed invisiblity, but that didn't stop people from abusing it.
It's clear the ITC has a marine bias and encourage the use of deathstars while nerfing things that directly counter them (tau combined fire)

>Can you think of any case in 40k fluff where a failed Geller field resulted in the ship escaping?

About 50/50 odds of it happening in any novel with space travel, if the writer wants to spice up a dragging travel scene a bit.

Having a daemonic incursion sucks, but it's actually more common to have small, managable bouts of horror millitary force can see off than an outright apocalpytic flood of daemons raping everyone to death.
>>
>>47154860
Orks WANT the shields to fail. I mean Imperial ships.
>>
>>47154895
I mean a FULL failure. As if they entered without any fields at all. Which is what happened BEFORE Geller fields invention. In 40k fluff, when it fails, it's temporary if the writer wants.
>>
I wonder if modern day (40k, not heresy era) Chaos ships travel without Gellar fields.
>>
>>47155512
They do. The daemons and Chaos Gods don't care at all, they'll rip them to shreds.

If the Emperor had been more open about the existence of Chaos and had disseminated information about it freely among his troops, would things have turned out differently?
>>
>>47156544
No. Lorgar would have tried converting Chaos to Emperor worship.
>>
>>47156544
No. The Emperor was a master procognistor, meaning he could see the future. He knew all of this would happen, but not exactly what would happen.

The main reason the HH happened was because the Emperor delayed his return to Terra for about 10 years to help everybody to kill the Orks in Ullanor Empire.

Had he returned when he wanted, he could have finished the Webway and returned to bitch slap any potential shit-fits that happened.

Another way he could have avoided all of this shit would be given Sanguinius the Title. I have still yet to work out why he hadn't. Cause he was a mutant?
>>
>>47157109
No. Emps knew that he was going to end up on the throne, and didn't want Dorn or Sang to follow him on the Vengeful Spirit.
>>
>>47157142
It depends if you consider what the Emperor says as a lie or not. He doesn't want Dorn or Sanguinius to come with him. He says he cannot see into the future due to a 'black wall' or something blocking his ability.

So he either lied and could see what was going to happen. Or he wasn't lying and couldn't see what was going to happen.

Either way, Big E knew the Heresy was going to happen anyway, but not exactly what was going to happen. When Magnus blows the Webway, he screams "DAMN MAGNUS THE RED" not "HOLY FUCK HORUS IS COMING TO KILL ME AND RUIN EVERYTHING!"

He knew it'd happen, the limit is whether he lied, as I said, about what would happen prior to teleporting to VS.
>>
>>47156544

No way. Morons who think Chaos should be made public are idiots. Hiding it isn't a great alternative but it's the best humanity has got. Look at the Davinite priest and warrior lodges. Even something like that was able to corrupt the legions. Chaos cults spring up even when Chaos is fucking secret, imagine if it were open knowledge like Scientology.
