>>
continuing from last thread

>No, if you buy a Crisis Team unit with 3 models, those 3 models stick together like any other

but you can just buy 3 units of 1 suit each though, right?

>And burst cannons are pretty poor choice, you have plenty of other sources for massed S5

so just go TL plasmas for the CFD suit? you say that there are other options for S5 spam but im pretty limited on fire warriors due to the amount im investing into the suits, sure i have the ethereal but the double attacks only work at half range

Yes, you can buy Crisis suits as individual units, but each unit fills an elite slot, and generally you only get 3 of those

Armies of nothing but crisis suits can be fragile, without other shit around they can be easily focus-fired and each of them is only as hard to kill as 2 space marines, or 1 if they're hit by S8

Not everybody is Carnac. The guy is easy to spot, but there are copycats who are too lazy to make their own gimmick persona. Carnac is literally "This one sentence bit of fluff means X Y and Z despite that never being said. What? You want proof of those things being true? WELL IT MAKES SENSE SO IT'S TRUE". The Person. He is also a walking spouter of logical fallacies. It's best to just ignore him. He'll get bored and go play Hearthstone or something eventually.

The FAQ on Facebook is a draft. It is not 'legal'. You must wait till it's officially released on GW's site before any of those rules officially apply. However, many people are obviously applying certain stuff written in FAQ anyway cause it's so unlikely to get removed.

Thing is, it isn't even official yet. It could change (thou some shit is so unlikely cause it's written in the fucking BRB, like grenades for example) and thus people should wait till GW release the final version.

Until then, people will just have their BP rise up as they read shit which thinks dooms their army when simply explaining to GW on their Normiebook page will make them work towards fixing it. There is also an email, an email I have been giving out to Ork players on /40kg/ to encourage them (and Nid/DE/GK/BA) players to explain why the codex isn't very good and how to fix it. Don't be rude. Just make it a polar opposite. Just explain how X or Y could be viable...

The email, as always, is automated reply, but they do read it. So send it them, be nice, make it well presented and reasoned. It's the only way to make change.

Here is email:

>>
>>47097347
Yeah there's definitely going to be some changes (First draft yadda yadda, literally contradicts itself about ICs in the same squad manifesting the same power, etc.) but I think for the most part they are good changes and the player response FAQ is something direly needed in 40k.

Etc. If it's such a major problem (let's ignore the fact that they were essentially 'cheating') then why don't they go and try and fix it? We're told to playtest it, as you said. Well reply to them and go "I want to build this deathstar because reasons!" or "I want to be able to move flat out and still shoot accurately" or whatever.
>>
>Tyranids got nerfed to shit
WHY

Monsters can no longer get covers saves from models smaller than them and not jinking monsters cant vector strike. All this means is that flyrants really are the ONLY worthwhile unit in the codex but now they're COMPLETELY fucked over by ap3 skyfire weapons.

At least skyfire is harder to come by n- wait, psychic powers with no profile no longer need to roll to hit? never mind.
>>
Can we start a new general with no Chicken so that all these /pol/lacks know this isn't a political thread.

Jesus Christ.

So has anyone ever realized there army was a bit too oppressive or competitive and had to be toned down? What made you realize? What changes did you make?
>>
>>47097439
Because the interpretation was wrong. I ran multiple relics on my BA Captain. I pretended he was Brother Seraphan. Gave him Valour's Edge, Fury of Baal, Angelic Visage, Vitas Verdie and the Jet Pack. Stuck him in some Sanguinary Guard and played non-S8AP2 armies of my friends.

Regardless of your comments, the rules have been clarified.

Malefic daemons are pretty much impossible for any non-top tier codex to even have a prayer of removing more than ten models from the board. I just asked if I could start swapping summoning/possession/incursion for cursed earth instead to cut back on the impossible-to-deny-infantry-spawning.

Frankly I'd prefer if cursed earth was the primaris anyhow. It's what you want out of your malefic rolls to make your army usable without being broken, but you're forced to take summoning when you roll up a possession/infernal gaze/dark flame that you have no use for.

It was unclear at best. I thought that intervening models rule would at the very least give warriors a cover save if behind gaunts, who cover half of them.

But no, 25% only applies to terrain and it if a model is just a little bit taller than the models in front they can just 'shoot over'.

3 Darkshrouds at that level but one sits with my land speeder formation so, counting that, 2-3 units (but it can be most of my deployment when things are so close, it also helps improve any other jinkers near by)

I actually just won a bid for a Skaarac recast that I'm going to be using my spare thirster bits to turn into a D Thirster stand-in. This FAQ had me tickled pink with FMCs arriving gliding because Thirsters are just about the only FMC in the game that wants to be in assault primarily, and as such they were the only one that suffered from the turn delay. But all that is past now.

>>47097613
Daemons have more WC than anybody between greater daemons, princes, horrors, and heralds. With paradox at only 25 points it's actually very easy to build a daemon list now that will routinely cast 3 WC spells on only 5 WC usage. Prismatic gazes/4d6 Flickering Fires/Boon of Flame/Summoning/Possession galore
>>
>>47097608
Nope, it's if you can't avoid shooting the unit at all now. a carnifex could be up to its waist in gaunts but as long as you can see it's upper half just fine it doesn't get a save, you can shoot over them.

>>
>>47096900
Legal yes, whether it makes sense is a different matter.
For small point games, I always prefer a fireblade with a strike-pulserifle team.
Ethereal can be very bad, if you loose him and his advantages don't really come into play with so few models on the table.
Commander price tag is just too damn high.
>>
>>47097738
>Yes, as long as the line of sight for the weapon being used is not obscured by the intervening models and does not pass through a gap between the models in the intervening unit.

>If that Infantry model partially obscures the target from the firer, then yes

I know im not copying over the conditionals and caveats, but it really seems like if interveining models even partially obscure something, you get a cover save

>>
>>47097776
Well to be fair, in that case you rolled possession on the unit and made the conscious choice to not swap for summoning because you either don't want it or already had it. So paradox for possession isn't all that bad a trade (though you're likely only making it when you're way out ahead) when you've basically just spent 75 points for a D Thirster.
>>
>>47097805

The made so that CS can't get special character because of the VotLW, then give them their character of which you already have the rules.

I'm going to have to ask for more clarification then. How obcsured is obscured.
A carnifex blocking everything but a tyrants head and shoulders is 'obscured'.
A guardsman blocking sight to a knights left foot is 'obscured'.
Where is the line between these two that grants a cover save?

Neither of these are true. Grounding has a high enough S to Instant kill it, but it still has to /fail/ the grounding test, and then it has to flunk the ++/+++, too.

Tau's best fliers are Forge World. And now the FAQ has clarified that the Y'Vahra can get 2D6 overwatch hits from wall-of-deathing with its torrent weapon while still overwatching with the other hand /and/ confirming that the torrent weapon can hit fliers/FMC with skyfire. So our best semi-flier got even better.

Before, it simply didn't work, because the rules didn't allow the GMC to die to tank shock, and it didn't allow it to move while anchored, and it didn't allow the tank to stop. Tank shock resulted in a divide-by-zero case where the best solution is for the tank to stop short and deal D3 wounds instead of instant death.

FAQ allows the anchored SS to dodge tankshock, though. With a specific note that Tank Shock was never intended to kill.

So the solution is to model a couple of gaunts sitting in trees, and put them on either end of the squad like goalposts. Then no matter what they'll be shooting between models.

Right, have gone through 1d4chan tactics pages and added the flyer type to (I think) every one that's in DftS. Have not however rewritten the tactica themselves, so there'll be a lot of Attack Flyers with tactica saying they're solid anti-air for example. So, if people could have a crack at their own armies' tactica entries for the flyers, that'd be groovy.

Three hits, hitting side armor, takes an average of 1.5 hull points a turn, requires you to point your rear armor at that flyer you just vector struck when you're done.

Fliers now come in three roles:
fighter, attack craft, and bomber.

Neither Attack craft nor Bomber have any extra special rules (including skyfire)
Fighters keep the optional skyfire, and have -1BS vs ground targets.

The only distinction between Bombers and Attack Craft is the benefits they get in the various attack patterns. For the record, Bomber's suck. Their benefits only ever benefit their bomb, of which most Bombers have 1

Make Gravguns Salvo 1/2, and Gravcannons Salvo 2/3. Ditch grav amps on everything but centurions. Make it so that against vehihicles, Grav just makes them count as moving through difficult terrain next turn, so holding still can save them, and only non-walkers get immobilized if they fail the Dangerous Terrain test.

That should make it more of a side-grade compared to plasma.
>>
The easy way to fix grav weapons is to convince GW to give them to Orks. They will be inmediately weakened.

Flamers are short range anti-infantry.

Grav Cannons should be like a debuff gun or something. The Heavy weapon list already has most niches pretty well covered.

I didn't say not to nerf them, only that changing their role is unfair. Armies are built around units being able to perform certain tasks. Grav weapons are gratuitously overpowered and work against pretty much everything, but that doesn't mean that they need to be changed from the ground up. 30k grav weapons don't even vaguely resemble 40k ones. The only similarity is the name. At that point, you might as well give them a dark lance statline. Keep the INTENDED functionality (something that works better against more heavily armored units) and nerf the shit out of them so that they're not the obvious and only choice.

>>47100819
They have a purpose, but they're not related. Grav weapons in 30k are almost exclusively anti-vehicle weapons. They are only useful in 30k because of the abundance of high-AV vehicles and dearth of d weapons or other sources of haywire (at least for legions). Nerfing grav weapons doesn't keep people from using their old lists, but makes their old lists less fucking ridiculous.

Oh, wait, you want something that's crazy good against elite infantry and the highest AV vehicles. Because that role is a positive one (sarcasm in case you can't read that).

Grav in 30k are completely different, but they have a positive role in the game. So changing them from something that shits up the game to something good is a positive change, even if people have to use those models for a different purpose now.

Considering how many people want to outright remove the things, giving them a different role is a fucking compromise.

How is changing their entire statline, from range, strength, AP, firing characteristic, and special rules a compromise? That's like saying hop splat guns are still around because you can technically still find the model. What you're talking about is removing them entirely and coming up with something new to fill the place of the model. That is neither a nerf or a compromise.

The (presumed) intended role of a grav weapon is to be BETTER at killing heavy-armored units than light armor units, hence giving a real option between plasma and graviton. Plasma guns work on everything, but grav guns (should) just work better against only the most heavily armored units. That's why grav guns have more shots than their plasma counterparts. You're supposed to want to choose plasma in more general lists and grav weapons when you know you're fighting lots of 2+. UNFORTUNATELY, GW cocked it up and made grav weapons so good that taking anything else is a joke. Their problem isn't the graviton wounding mechanic, but that they're readily available on relentless models, have too many shots, and that grav cannons are extremely good at killing vehicles because GW can't do math. If you just increased their cost, changed their anti-vehicle rules, and either dropped the number of shots or grav amps on grav cannons, they'd be fine. There would be a reason to pick anything else over them.

For the record, I have never used any grav weapons. I'm usually the first person who wants the game to go back to the times before all of this bullshit. That being said, it's in the game now and the base mechanic can result in interesting weapon options. The execution is just terrible

So about the grenade thing:

Winners: Walkers and monstrous creatures.

Losers: Swooping Hawks, Fire Dragons, Tankbustaz, Demolitions IG Vets, Vanguard Vets, etc.

This change makes Knights even more ridiculous in melee. They need to nerf Stomp attacks at the very least. Another thing that have to happen is for the suicide squads to take a hidden power fist or two, at least for Space Marines.

Also, Tactical Marines limited to one krak grenade in close combat is a HUGE indirect buff to regular and venerable dreadnoughts. Walkers are back to being nigh-unkillable in melee vs units that arent dedicated.

The big problem here is that Orks just lost their best way of dealing with Land Raiders...
>>
>>47101398
So do heldrakes get a formation or just a set of special rules if you take them as a flier wing?

Not that I can really complain since those benefits actually seem comparatively very strong to some of the others listed here
>>
>>47101427

Not As Strong as that though, jesus christ orks are suprisingly ok in this update
>>
>>47101427
Those all seem like pretty sweet benefits. +1 strength or an extra shot could both be awesome on the right flyer, and that extra 6" would really help the new flyer and its short range guns.

so changed the number of shots, effective range, firing characteristic, and half the special rule?

of course, you can add in that against things with bad enough armor that the grav gun isn't a good option, basic marine weapons remove them fine. so you don't actually have to worry about the downside of grav.

The intended role of the grav gun is shit. Getting rid of it is an improvement. Just like getting rid of the d-scythes new role of 'good against literally everything' is an improvement.

From codex:csm

The miasma of wrongness that surrounds these fell creatures is due not only to their monstrous hybridisation, but also to the keening angubh of what remains of the individuals that used to pilot the machines. The steersmen inside the HC'ldrakes, having become consumed by the power
and independence granted them by their fighter craft, have literally become one with their vehicles. At first, the transformation is of the body- the pilots shrink back into the interiors of their machines until they see with the craft's auto-senses and speak with its vox-grilles. Eventually, as the machines themselves achieve daemonic sentience, the transformation affects the pilots' souls. Mter so many centuries swooping through the Warp as pitiless hunters, the steersmen's spirits meld with that of their war engines until they are entirely subsumed. The pilots' physical forms become atrophied, foetal balls that bum deep in the cores where natural beasts would keep their hearts. Trapped and subservient to the murderous desires of the Daemons with which they share their prisons, the withered, blackened pilots scream in the darkness, their trauma and rage magnified by the vox-arrays of the Heldrakes into haunting cries.

Warp Fury and Fueled by Murder both basically slap Shred on the Baleflamer under conditions, and Icon of Slaughter raises the Pursuit value from awful to average.
Yeah, that seems really powerful. Totally compareable to free Armorbane on any hitroll of 6, free markerlights or +1 shot for all weapons.

>>
>>47101504
You'd actually just be changing the number of shots and half the special rule. Bolters being good against things that grav weapons wouldn't be is irrelevant. You took the grav weapon instead of the bolter (except on bikes). It's supposed to be an opportunity cost. Space marines used to take a bunch of plasma guns because they were a great option. Now they take grav guns for the same reason. The only difference is that grav guns are that much better than plasma ever was. They need to be balanced, not removed.

The intended role cannot just be shit. You may dislike it, and that is your prerogative. You disliking the idea of something doesn't mean it should be removed. The same can be said for d-scythes. They were always pretty powerful, but nobody really complained about them. The idea was fine. The issue, again, is implementation.
>>
>>47101427
FUCKING A
2 SHOT MEGA TELLYPORT BLASTA
that would be the ultimate ground attack plane
>>
>>47101667
okay, first.
Space marines will always have a bunch of bolters, because you can't replace all your starting weapons. So they won't lack the bolters and can still take out the units the grav cannon can't hit.

Second, d-sycthes weren't complained about back under the old rule, because they didn't have the same role. They weren't good against everything, because they sucked against vehicles and were pretty bad against MCs. Now they are good against everything, hence new role, hence shitty overpowered.

And third. I'm gonna admit I was just recommending changing the basic grav rule. Attack profile, range, shots, etc on the weapon would stay the same. Because the basic grav rule is in my opinion something that cannot be balanced. Just like d-scythes. It's an inherently bad rule.

>>47101734
I think that we're talking past each other a bit. I was making the allusion to plasma guns for a reason. Plasma guns are pretty much strictly better than bolters. People bought them because of this. People also buy grav guns because they're pretty much strictly better than bolters (except for a few artificial scenarios). Yes you will always have bolters. The opportunity cost isn't "I could've had a bolter", it's "I could've had a plasma gun/melta/whatever". Grav guns should be a good choice. They're an upgrade. The tradeoff isn't supposed to be relative to bolters, but relative to the other special weapons you can upgrade to. The point (I believe) was to give an alternative to the plasma gun. Plasma guns are straight better than bolters against everything (except the space pope). Grav guns were supposed to be a more specialized weapon. They were supposed to be better against the most heavily armored targets than plasma guns, but worse against lightly armored things, as S7 wounds most things on a 2, while the grav weapon would be wounding on a 4 or worse. Also, plasma guns would be glancing AV10 on a 3 and work reasonably well against everything up to AV12, while grav weapons would need a 6 to hurt everything, making them terrible weapons to use against anything but AV14. Unfortunately, they fucked up something awful and created a weapon that kills pretty much everything.

You actually made my point by bringing up d-scythes. Their original role was to provide mass anti-infantry power that was also AP2 to work better with wraith cannons. Like grav weapons, they became reviled because their implementation (right off the bat for grav and an edition later for d-scythes) failed to achieve the intended/original purpose and instead became the weapon of choice for killing absolutely everything. I do not believe that the graviton rule cannot be balanced. There is just no other weapon in the game with a similar rule.

>>47101945
no, you made my point by attempting to use d-scythes. The basic rule for them fundementally changed.

It used to be S4, with special results on a 6. And was fine. Then they changed the basic rule, to something that was broken as fuck.
The current grav rule is broken as fuck, to save it you'd need to change the basic rule. Now maybe the wounding on save part could be fixed, maybe. but the rule, as it exists, is fundamentally over powered.

The only way to balance it would be the only way you could balance the current rule for d-scythes, make so absuredly expensive that putting it on anything 1W means it too fragile to be worth the points.

If by implementation you mean that the rules combination, like say d strength combined with template rules as a combination, is bad, then I might be with you. D strenght can be fine, templates, can be fine, combined on infantry that can be in a transport, broken.
So gravs base wounding could be fine, but combined with the rest of the things, broken. A rule needs to be changed or removed. Maybe those rules can be relentless and the anti-vehicle shit. but the rules need to be changed. point value won't fix it.
>>
>>47102081
I don't know what that means.
>>
>>47102271
At this point, I'm pretty sure we already agreed. I was arguing the d-scythe point to show that the original role was fine because you were arguing that the intended role of grav weapons is inherently bad. Neither role was bad, but the eventual implementation is terrible. The graviton wounding rule can be fine. The graviton anti-vehicle rule can be fine. Neither is fine when coupled with that many shots and the existence of grav amps. We both agree that something needs to go. I just say that it isn't the entire graviton rule. If I had my way, I would probably just remove grav amps and the auto-immobilize and give grav cannons a price increase on cents. I'm not sure that the rest of the grav weapons are really that offensive.

diagree because of fucking grav bikes. Relentless platform for the salvo weapon is too damn good. the downside compaired to plasma weapons is just not that high. Maybe if the gravbikes had a range like the plasma bikes the DA have it could work, but how salvo and relentless work together seems to have escaped GW completely.

I mean, take the gauss salvo array. It's not a problem weapon necesarrily, but it only exists on a vehicle, ie relentless platform. Why is it salvo then? it's just a heavy/assault with the higher range and shots

Competitive scene is beyong fucked and more toxic than Nurgle.

Casual scene is good in a lot of places.

GW basically increased to the max the amount of rules and things you can do and special abilities etc. This on one hand allows you to play very fluffy armies with evocatives abilities. On the other it can be abused as hell.
>>
>>47102487
Single grav weapons on bikes aren't really that bad. The problem is bike command squads. Being able to spam pretty much any weapon is bad, and the power of grav guns makes them that much worse. They really need to limit the number of special weapons you can take. I also think they need to do away with the flat wargear costs. I think that 15 points for a grav gun is fair on a tactical marine. It is absolutely not fair on a bike. That would imply that plasma guns and grav guns are just as good when practically all of the downsides of grav weapons are ignored. I agree that I have no idea how they missed this. Then again, power weapons cost the same whether you're a guardsman or a chapter master, so I don't know why I had any expectations. The problem with grav bikes is less a problem with grav weapons and more a problem of "everything's fucked".

well eldar don't have it, though the reason on most of those differences between weapon prices are rather arcane.
And of course eldar don't have nearly the valume of units that can share wargear.

Of course they also include power lances as power weapon of the same cost as power swords and axes. How many things have you ever seen modeled with a power lance.
Because the only time I've seen one, it was counts as a different weapon.
>>
>>47102623
I am mostly baffled because GW DO differentiate point costs sometimes, see shield generators and stimpacks for Tau - so there are precedence for doing so.
>>
>>47102831
but is there clear precident for GW understanding how relentless and salvo interact when giving prices and options?
>>
>>47102817
I totally modeled a power spear once. I even used it a lot. It made a lot of sense as a BT player right after 6th edition hit. We still had our 4th edition codex and still rocked in melee. Land raiders were expensive but not totally worthless. If you can guarantee that you are charging and that your opponent will die, there's no reason not to take power spears. When you have seven S6 AP3 attacks on a character and 25 S5 AP3 shred attacks on your LC terminators, nothing survives long enough for you to lose your charge bonuses. Since that time, I have never seen a power spear.
