Options include but are not limited to having your own small ability to manipulate the 4th dimension, having a friend who can do it, striking the villain when they get careless, hoping the BBEG has some kind of inescapable weakness, or attempting to burn out the BBEG's powers since those kind of shenanigans have to take some king of massive strain to use.

So where is that image from? I looked around and found fuck all...

Basically, he's a rogue Doctor.

In the Authority, the Doctor is Earth's Shaman. He's a reality warper that can do anything as long as he can think of it in poetic terms. Previous Doctors included Jesus, Mohammad, Buddha, and some other myth figures. The current (at the time) Doctor is Jeroen, a Dutch billionaire genius who ended up burning out due to the stress, going broke, getting the powers of the Doctor, and getting addicted to heroin and horse pornography to drown out his responsibility.

The scale of his powers? He once went to another universe and held Italy in place while the rest of the world rotated, drowning the entire country.

To get help with some shit, he promised to give the only living previous Doctor, a madman who had his powers stripped from him, his powers for one hour. The first thing the renegade Doctor did was get rid of the time limit. Then he proceeded to fuck everyone's shit up, including raping Angie as a child, just for shits and giggles. Until the rest of the Doctor's powers, such as empathy for every living thing on the planet, kicked in.

Wouldn't be the last time she gets literally screwed, either.

In another storyline, the characters all get the shit kicked out of them and captured. The metal chick has all of the nanomachines in her blood pumped out of her and replaced with an HIV positive drug addict's blood, stuck with a bunch of child actors who make her life hell, and an abusive husband. And she works a dead-end retail job where no one respects her, but that's normal for retail.

Ashley is his ex-wife. She wasn't dead. What he's reliving is the moment when he gave bad advice to her father, a police negotiator, about what a suspect was likely to do, resulting in her father's death. That, in turn, not only destroyed his career in the FBI but also lead to his divorce.

Try to hold back your cringe but I had a forum RP character who was fine.

Lifelong bodyguards for each member of the family line, leading up to a destined event. The character himself having been saved from several time travelling assassins and a few bombs that detonated right after appearing.

Making the bodyguard question why so many wanted to kill a baby.

Isn't everything "bad news" in the authority? That character was de-powered and had her memory re-written to be the wife of a an abusive husband with every STD known to man and have 3 or 4 children who hated her. Then she ended up as the brianwashed sexslave of some guy who made her bake cakes all day so he could dump them in the trash then make her give him blowjobs until she passed out, every day for years.

Authority started out okay it was Ellis' Watchmen the idea being that you wouldn't want a Justice League analog to exist a group of people with godlike power deciding they know better than you

Then Millar came in and left his signature brand of shit all over the property sure it was edgy and tryhard before but not nearly to the levels the series got later in its run

Strictly speaking Reverse-Flash is type of villain, a villainous speedster with a personal connection to the Flash. There are five Reverse Flashes: The Rival who fought Jay Garrick the Golden Age Flash, Professor Zoom who fought Barry Allen, Zoom who fought Wally West, Inertia who fought Bart Allen, and Daniel West, the only one to be named Reverse Flash, who also fought Barry Allen in the Nu52 continuity.

That's not really true, Ellis' run is fairly neutral towards the Authority. There is a more negative tone towards them in Planetary, but that's in line with the differences between methodology of the two groups.

Pointing out that something compares unfavourably to Sandman is of no real value; Something doesn't have to look good compared to one of the best comics ever written to be worthwhile.

The thing with four dimensional/time travelling anything is that generally if you beat them you're ALWAYS GOING TO HAVE BEAT THEM because of the nature of causality

So, stuff will either work out or it won't generally
>>
>>47040388
Actually, yes!

He wrote a few episodes of Sonic the Comic, a few episodes of the DCAU Superman comics, a very Silver Age Flash story in the 90s (the one where everyone takes "Flash can run faster than instant teleportation" out of context. In the comic, he stole the speed of everyone on Earth and an entire planet of sentient radio waves to do it.), Starlight (It sets itself up as dark and edgy, but it's a fairly good Flash Gordon/Buck Rogers-style plot), and Superior (which is a straight up love letter to Captain Marvel and Superman.)

Then again, he's also the guy who brought us Trouble (The Marvel 'soap opera' miniseries that tried to retcon it so that Aunt May was Peter Parker's real mother), Civil War, and the Unfunnies.

Yeah. Unfortunately, if it were JUST this page, they probably wouldn't have cut anything. However, Millar also wanted to have the leader of the Authority's replacement team have the government dig up Jenny Spark's corpse so he could fuck it.

There're many theories as how the time stream works. Is it like DBZ? is it like Terminator? is it like Time Cop? how does it work in this hypothetical setting?
>>
I'm a little confused. I had heard that The Authority was supposed to be a thesis on how it would be better if superheroes were allowed to change the status quo. Why is everything so much shittier than in the more traditional superhero comics they're supposed to be arguing against?

Humans cannot fathom a world where things are better

Ergo, any time things in a comic book might change for the better, we drag it down to our level

It has to be shitty like real life, or even shittier, so we can lie to ourselves and say this is the best we can do as society burns.
>>
>>47040833

>>
>>47041001

>>47041014
not that anon but for some reason I find the idea of a time bobby in a tall had with stereotypically huge mutton chops riding around in a miniature replica of Big Ben hitting time travelling villains with a billy club and issuing citations for time jay walking darkly amusing.
>>
>>47040933
There's three big issues.

First: Every writer felt the need to top the previous one, so the threats either got bigger or the Authority got more monstrous. After Ellis, they became super-celebrities, throwing parties in the Carrier, showing up to fights drunk, and wearing designer costumes and clothing. People basically took Ellis' thing of "They're trying to build a Finer World, but end up killing a lot of people to do it" and turned it into "They operate entirely through murder and are kinda fascist liberals."

Second: The 'Making a finer world' part was ALWAYS waylaid by the action. The villains of every arc usually got more focus than the heroes, so announcements like "The Engineer cured cancer" get buried by "This evil cult has brainwashed members of the Authority into being super-Christians" or "The government has created a super-assassin to kill the Authority."

Thirdly: They still share a world, and while the Authority was one of Wildstorm's flagship titles, they weren't really allowed to make a huge impact on things like world hunger and ending crime because they still had to exist in the same world as Gen13, WildCATS, Mr. Majestic, Deathblow, Planetary, and the remnants of StormWatch. Actually, it became a thing for a while for the heroes of individual comics to either beat up or force the Authority to admit that they're wrong and back away from a fight.

If they were in their own, stand-alone world, that would be one thing. But as long as they shared their world with all of the other Wildstorm characters, any change they made would be cosmetic at best or a crossover event at worst.
>>
>>47041093
And by 'more monstrous', I point towards things like the crossover where they decided that killing a little kid was better than teaching him to use his powers effectively, or the time they were fighting the psychic construct of an abused child and decided to summon up a giant form of his abusive father to beat him into a coma rather than calm him down and get him help.
>>
>>47041093
>Planetary
Didn't Planetary spin off to its own timeline thing?
>>
>>47041183
Planetary was just weird, but it shared a world with The Authority. Enough for a crossover
>>
>>47041183
Yes.

It's "what if the Fantastic Four were horrific badguys with contextual powers instead of literal powers".
>>
Punch him 'til he dies.
>>
>>47032653
In theory, easy. Practical? No.

To kill your parents, your enemy needs to find them. He can't find them if he doesn't know who they are (expect by say blowing up earth...)

Step one: Fake your own death.
Step two: create a new persona for yourself. No relations to your old life. Heck, change your DNA with retrovirus shenanigans. No old friends, no family, nothing.

Now the time traveler can only attack you when you are comparatively strong.

Option B: Be Adolf Hitler. Killing Hitler via time travel seems to be never permanent or the killer is forced to stop himself due to plot.

Millar.

Miller's the dude who thought that Batman killing everyone in the Taliban was a great idea for a comic.
>>
>>47041399
Wasn't that idea actually shot down , so he just did the exact same thing starring a random guy with a bandage "mask" instead of Batman?

What's supposed to be happening is that Carrie Kelly is escaping from a lab after rescuing Ray Palmer, who's spent years trapped in a petri dish fighting protozoa. The words and pictures chosen to depict this scene could hardly be any worse.

>>
>>47040833
Congratulations, you've created a villain that's simultaneously intelligent enough to time travel in order to kill you as a child and dumb enough to not realize that your parent's names and address are a matter of public record.

>>
>>47044406
So, tell me. Why does one take steps to counter a time traveling foe's information gathering efforts before they realize they're ever going to fight them? Because I can't see any reason to do so before you've fought them at least once, and at that point it's already too late.
>>
>>47044533
You aren't paranoid are you? That's a mighty serious character flaw you have there.
Agreed, you can't know that a time traveller is after you 'till it is too late. But those preparations help you against a whole lot issues. Annoying time travellers is just a bonus.
>>
>>47044638
Perhaps, but the original statement assumes that they're already able to narrow the location to the municipality level. At that point, it's really only a matter of putting in the research. That's assuming that they aren't willing to kill anyone that isn't you doing this. And they've got all the time in the world.
>>
>>47040833

Better idea - it doesn't work because multiworld theory is true.

He goes back in time and kills you as a baby, splitting off a new timeline where his evil is law. Good for him.

But the you that he was actually trying to kill still exists, and never sees him again.
>>
>>47046327
There is even better option.

History is not something "solid". You can go back to the "past", events play out... and the outcome is different. I will give you probably the best example possible.
Say you want to jump back 15 minutes to make a bet for winning horse, say One. You go back, place your bet, but different horse, Two, wins the race! Frustrated, you jump again, bet on Two and... horse Three wins the race.

And if those two theories are combined, you end up with situation where you not only won't affect your own history line, but also there is no guarantee for events to play out the same way as they did in your history.

Primer and Looper both played around this concept in somewhat creative way, but the first was just mind-numbing and the second wasted all potential it had for shitty action flick.
>>
>>47034050
Omega Men right now.
>>
>>47044081
As a point of order, depending on how the time traveler's powers work, he might not have any more ease of determining YOUR identity,

LIke, sure, if it's a matter of locking onto your bio-termporal signature or something, he can teleport in when you're out of costume, but if he has to do it by just teleporting to locations and times, he's still gotta take a crap shoot on it.

Unless your actual name is a matter of public record as well, in which case you were retarded for doing that.

Which now brings up at least one salient argument against the Superhuman Registration Act.
>>
>>47047632
Well an infinite amount of crap shoots will eventually hit the target. Time travelling and teleportation combined create the ultimate carpet bombing equivalent of searching for something. You got a finite number of places times the target could be and you yourself have infinite time and places you can be.
>>
>>47040629
Have you read Sonic comics?
That was a rollercoaster.
Shit got EDGY.
>>
>>47047632
>>47047769
i say it depends on his power of observation in the 4th dimension. while there he should be able to view all of time, from beginning to end, at once. he'd see when you were born, when you decided to hide your identity, when you decided to fight him, and when you did
it gets dicey when/if he sees himself in the 3rd dimension.
>>
>>47047769
Assuming the time traveler is immortal. Otherwise, each failed attempt still costs them personal resources, arguably more potent ones than usual.

Of course, many time travelers are immortal, so for those guys, yeah, no reason to not try.

But even then my time frame is potentially limited by my abilities. Can I use, in Continuum terms, "Gemini events", where there are two versions of me at the same point? If that's not available to me, then I have to schedule each option at a time past me didn't. If I can, then I STILL have to divide my search time, because, for instance, I can't have 300 of me knocking on every door in an apartment building at the same time because it's definitely going to draw a lot of attention, and there's functionally no one time everyone is going to be in their apartment simultaneously.

>>47048236
True, if I have full perception of Time, then it's of negligible difficulty to find you when you're vulnerable.

But that was really my initial point: the range of powers covered in "Time traveler" generates enough variance in ability to make it hard to determine how easily a Time Traveler can hunt you down.

Like, even locking onto my temporal bio signature is no guarantee that when you arrive I'll be in my civilian identity, or that anyone around me will reveal my name unless you've already researched it.
>>
Every attempt he makes at killing you only makes you stronger. Like that Invader Zim episode. Zim keeps trying to kill Dib by attacking through time, but his dad keeps building mechanical life-supports until he's an unstoppable death machine.

I think I'd like that style if I knew it was coming out of some indie artist instead of an industry vet. Got a lot of crude energy and excitement to it, and the proportional missteps kind of bring that out. But I'm sure he's got enough experience to capture that same energy without drawing massive DSL and paper-bag clothes.

>>47041846
And I'd assume this was that same indie artist's highschool scratchings, because that's where the style kind of breaks down.

Looper's time shenanigans made absolutely no sense on a technical level (pretty sure they said they didn't even plan it out all the way themselves). Like why can't they kill the past version of someone that time traveled to the past if it's perfectly ok for them to mutilate them to the point where they probably couldn't live without machines? How does that cause less damage to the timeline? How does Bruce Willis' timeline exist if he actually killed his future self in his timeline yet he's able to change JGL's timeline by making sure he survives, thus leading to JGL having a wildly different history but Bruce Willis is still affected by shit that happens to JGL? I liked the movie, but its time travel mechanics were retarded.

Mark Millar is wank, full stop. He's about on par with Bomb Queen for thinking "cunt", "nigger", and rape = artistic brilliance. When The Killer at the end of Wanted lectures us for not breaking free of our mundane lives, the book lacks someone telling this character he's a work of fiction and real life has consequences when you don't have horseshit superpowers.

>>
>>47055011

Those first few years of Ultimate were the best things some of the now most reviled comic book authors/artists in the industry have ever done. Greg Land with early FF, Bendis and Spiderman, Mark Millar and his rest of the stuff.

The first one to go completely off the boil was of course X-Men as it always is. The Land lost the will to fucking actually do his contracted job and just started tracing porn all the time (the absolute pinnacle of which was when he fucking forgot which black actor Ultimate Nick Fury is a copy of and did him as Denzel Washington or Dwight Johnson for the Thanos arc) Bendis goes on to Avengers and then runs it into the ground, and Millar...

Millar licks goats.

Fleetway.

I also liked some of the other backups. Shinobi, Kid Chameleon and such.

Also, some of the Knuckles strips had pretty neat artwork.
>>
>>47057936

The art started off as terrible, but just kept getting better and better and better. Some of the stories from other properties had some good art though. It's just a shame they stopped doing other SEGA property sidestories. I'd have loved it if Virtua Cop or House of the Dead had gotten comics.

The whole concept of what Chaos Emeralds were in the sonic setting was actually kind of great.
Essentially, Kintobor creates physical objects that are literally able to absorb evil from the universe. Then he has a lab accident and becomes Robotnik due to exposure to the stored evil in the emeralds and an egg from the fridge that had gone off and he was in the process of chucking it in the bin.

But, the Emeralds have, by existing, created an inbalance where it's physically impossible for good to beat evil, because there's not enough evil left in the universe... UNLESS you use those chaos emeralds to do it.

The ONLY times anybody comes close to actually winning against Sonic, it's because they're packing Chaos Emeralds. There is one exception to this, and that was the Brotherhood of Metallix, but that's literally it.

I can't help but feel that, outside of that one lab accident, this was all according to Kintobors keikaku.

>>
>>47060270

Sorry, I meant Evil can never beat Good, because Good is now the stronger force because a substantial wack of evil is locked up inside the Emeralds.

The only way for evil to win is by using the sequestered evil power in the Emeralds, which is shown to be enough to grant the weilder full reality warping abilities.
Even then though Sonic managed to trick Robotnik out of it, and the guy just completely lost his desire to do much of anything afterwards.

The man then literally woke up a sentient armageddon monster because he was just tired of it all.
