Hey /tg/. I decided to start a blood angels army, already primered my tactical squad mephiston red. What color scheme should i go for? I dont want to go with the one on the box, but not something outrageously different. Still the basic red, but changed up a bit. Also, what should I get for my army? Trying to be finshed by the end of this summer. Also, discuss your army and what you have. My brother plays dark eldar.
>>
Bump this if you see it, i want some opinions.
>>
>>47005049
4th company has black helmets due to getting wrecked by the black legion in an old white dwarf battle report.
Otherwise, some details in white or gold should do the trick. Try it on the pauldron trims and the knee protection. Eventually a vertical band on the helmet, those are easy to do and look prety good IMO.
You ca, also try a nice green if you fancy one particular shade, but I'm not too fond of those.

Btw, devastators are supposed to have blue helmets, assault yellow ones.
>>
>>47005178

Thanks, I'll look into getting some of those paints.
>>
>>47005178
OP, make sure you don't paint the heavy weapons in your tacticals with blue helms. It's only dudes that comprise a dev squad that have blue. Same with assault.

You could try flesh tearers. Simple scheme and they're pretty mean guys.
>>

I like them. I really like the various styles of helmet, and thing they look great mixed. Less cookie cutter and more like 'knights' with individualized armor.
>>
>>47006111

Well I know it had it's problems, but I found it odd that it was left out of the updated WAAAGH! Ghazghkull.

I have to wonder is it an attempt by GW to get players to buy new models by removing the formation and thus forcing them to choose something else.

>>
>>47006335
They only recently worked out how to do it properly with B@C, most Mk IV minis before that had the anteater mouth that looks stupid.

I'm still hoping for plastic Mk II/III, as then we'd have most of the armour marks covered in plastic (with a bit of swapping of bits between kits).

>>
>>47006491
>Keep this one strong
With three 40k Generals, I'm sort of temped to start a 40k General General, to help people sort of which general is which, and have meta commentary about the other threads.
>>
>>47006553
do it up
>>
>>47006335
The B@C kit is awesome. MK IV is awesome.
The newish Space Marines Tacticals and Blood Angels Tacticals are also good sets. A nice amount of Blinged if you water them both together.
>>
>>47006538
Better then Razorbacks? Or immolators? Or cheap as chips Trukks?
>>
So I'm not sure which general is the right one, so I'll just ask here.

What would your thoughts be on letting Tau Stealth Suits take a wider variety of weapons? Would your answer be different if it included multiple stealthsuits getting special weapons instead of just 1 in 3?
>>
>>47006553
I for one am supporting this thread because it started with a dude asking an honest hobby question, for once, and to spit in the faces of sperg lords.
>>
>>47006335
Mk IV is sweet. Definitely my favorite variant. I picked up a Betrayal at Calth box specifically so I could get my hands on enough for a Marine army.
>>
>>47006477
>If you took lists solely comprised of dedicated transports, who would come out on top?
Whoever brings Landraiders.
>>
>>47006228
I dont like them. I have zero beak helmets in my collection.
>>
>>47006553
The other threads have already fallen into arguing about which one is the real one. I don't think we need another one.
>>
>>47006569
Land
Raiders

And immolators don't exist anymore, silly
>>
>>47006569
I think immolators would win in straight up DT on DT violence...
Not counting Eldar . Fuck is there anything they aren't OP at..
Wait Necrons could be good with Ghost Barge broadsides everywhere
>>
>>47006578
>What would your thoughts be on letting Tau Stealth Suits take a wider variety of weapons? Would your answer be different if it included multiple stealthsuits getting special weapons instead of just 1 in 3?
I'm not sure what you're asking. Are you proposing a house rule where stealth suits get access to more special weapons?

I'd personally be opposed Tau are already one of the stronger armies. House-rulings giving Tau more options and versatility doesn't seem like a great idea.
>>
>>47006228
I only really like them when people use them for a specific purpose, like using them for a bird-themed chapter.

Personally, I want to pick up a couple to make some Plague-doctor nurgle marines.
>>
>>47006578

That would make them too good. Cheaper units never get to spam or have multiple specials

See scouts and tactical marines vs devastators

One 18" melta per three on a sneak type squad is plenty.
>>
>>47006613
Truth. I really don't get the nostalgia over those helmets they look retarded.
The 90s Marines looked ridiculous
>>
>>47006648
>>47006656

Yeah, that was basically what I was proposing. Letting Stealth suits swap out their burst cannons for flamers, missiles, etc.

Probably right that it's overkill though. Mostly I just want a way to differentiate my third stealth team from my other two.
>>
>>47006630
Lander radier is 230 right?
Will is stand up against and equal number of points of other things? Like 4 Raiders with blasters? Or 8 Trukks?

>>47006631
>Not counting Eldar . Fuck is there anything they aren't OP at..
>Wait Necrons could be good with Ghost Barge broadsides everywhere
Don't have the codexes so I'm not that familiar with Ghost Barges or Eldar Transports.
>>
>>47006656
Egh. It's still only two or three special weapons on a T 3 squad, no matter their cover save.
I would much rather face a few squads of them who a bolter wounds on 3s Tyan riptide/stormsurge/ whatever spam.
>>
>>47006588
Same here. The 40k generals have become extraordinarily bad over the past ~6 weeks. Almost no genuine content or discussion. At least we have civil attitudes in here.

So I just split a Renegade box with my buddy. The best loadout is two miniguns right? Seems like neither of the other gun options can compare with 24 str 6 ap 3 shots.
>>
>>47006652
>Personally, I want to pick up a couple to make some Plague-doctor nurgle marines.
That sounds pretty awesome.
>>
>>47006708
Eldar Transports typically have front armor 12, good transport capacity, great guns, the ability to jink due to being skimmers, and access to invuln saves.

Downside is they tend to run 100+ points at the lower end, but it is really nice to have a transport option that isn't 'explode if you look at it funny' cheap like a Trukk, or 'so expensive that a single meltagun can change the game' like a landraider
>>
Does the Ork Kill-Krusha Tank make a decent transport?
>>
>obviously using psychic powers
>immune to nikea because police legion
>kill teamed loyal legion
>acused of mutation to other legion when he was filled with furries fucks
>couldn't even reach Terra on time
>almost killed by terminators
>didn't comply with the edict of Guilliman
>stupidly getting lost
>legion descends to new level of furries
>finally getting what they deserve, being purged by loyal sons
I hope their betrayal to the Imperium is discovered and the thousand sons reivindicated as true loyal sons.
>>
>>47006708
Wave Serpent Spam almost singlehandedly ruined 6th edition.
Ghost Arks can fire their not Egyptian space barges weapons at two different targets and with gauss they glance anything on a 6.
Both are skimmers, and the Wave Serpent is fast.

>>
Grats on choosing the best first founding chapter. It's a shame that our rules are pretty fucking awful.

I would recommend you buying a Furioso Librarian adn a coule of Storm Ravens and Thunder Hammer assault terminators, our BA specific Terminator kit is pretty ballin.

The state ouf our book shouldnt affect you that bad so long as your brother isnt a mewling fuck who likes to power game. Beware of Dark Eldar at lower points values, I've found them to be deadly at lower levels.

A sicaran battletank wouldn't be remiss, I like to pair them with Baal Predators in a sort of hunter-killer formtion.

Of course you can't miss out on the Death Comoany. Grab a chaplain and about 10 Death Company and throw them into either the aforementioned ravens or buy a Land Raider Redeemer.

Again, welcome to the army.

>Will people refuse to play a knight army?
I think most people would be reluctant too without a chance to chance their list.

Without a chance to tailor at least a little bit, a good portion of the opponent's army is going to be incapable of damaging yours.

With a heads up, I don't think they're too overpowering, but you might want to bring a back up army, if they don't want to play against an all knight list.

If you want to build your army up slowly, I would advise getting a squad of death company and a Chaplin as a HQ choice, give the death company chai swords and bolt pistols but replace one marines chain sword with a power fist, give them all and the Chaplin jump packs. To make the list legal you might want to get a death company dreadnought and kit him out to be cassor the dammed- he would make up your second troops choice and thus make your army bound, from there look at expanding into having more close combat units and maybe a vindicator or two, also don't forget to put your tactical squad in a metal box (rhino tank), it's basically essential - have fun collecting!

>>47007783
The latest releases just demonstrate nothing has changed at GW. Game design is driven by what they think will 'force' players to buy more shit.

Instead of wasting time on stupid shit like a flyer phase that makes the game take longer than it already does - and flyer formations that they think will sell kits - how about they just produce a quality ruleset and see how that fares?

The 40k general threads have come to reflect the playerbase. All of the guys that brought me into 40k, and taught me how to enjoy the game - have stopped playing. Whats left are powergamers playing grey plastic armies. These are the /generals/ of your generation of 40k fans. I dont care a whole lot, but I do feel sorry for you guys. Wasting time swearing at eachother and whatnot. No one seems to be truly interested in Warhammer 40,000 anymore. It's about out-listing your opponent. And here its just become a copy of /v/ or /b/.

Some of us are still here, and we will always be here, no matter the shit other people say, it is just the malcontent who seek an outlet for their frustration by filling this place with their shit.

>Whats left are powergamers playing grey plastic armies
I'll be honest, I've never played a grey army. I've played ones where certain models were grey, once an entire unit was grey. But I've never played against more than about 10% greys. The most grey I ever played was against a guy who wanted each member of his Honor Guard to be unique, but hadn't finished planning them all out, and refused to paint the first one until he'd finished planning all of them. He put a shitton of work into his army and was embarrassed by the grey

Where do you live where you have EVER fought an entirely/mostly grey army?

No, rules are not in the WD. (For either new flier.)

There's no point playing an all knight army unless your army is filled with anti-tank or you play a similarly powerful competitive army.

If you allow me to count all my weapons as melta instead of plasma or whatever stupid shit I have glued to the model, then sure I'd play them.

But now that knights have objsec you can't expect casual lists to be able to win. The knights out-sturdy you, out-shoot you, out-melee you, out-speed you, AND out-cap you.

Blood angels update when?!
>>
>>47009801
It's the same as the stats for the normal dc dread in the new codex. But don't worry - you still get +2 attacks on the charge (and +1 for having 2 identical ccws?)
>>
>>47010043
He's probably referring to the fact that vanilla dreds all got more attacks.

Thing is, they didn't up the attacks of the yiffdreds when they updated that codex recently, so all bets are kind of off.
>>
>>47010088
The reduced attacks might just be to balance it a bit as a 7 attack dreadnought might be too strong
>>

Why? Regular SM get 6 attack dreadnoughts on a much better frame, why not , let blood angels have something special.
It's only a regular dread as well so it's much easier to deal with than an iron clad.

Ork Dakka list

Had 5 Big Meks with Shokk Attack guns supported by nine kannon/zapp guns, three looted wagons, and 45 Lootas

Also brought one of those free cover wall things, can't remember the name, but the entire army moved maybe a collective 5 inches the whole game, just sat there and DAKKKKADAKKKADAKKKAAAKAKAKAKAKAKDKDKDK

Can someone explain why orks have such poor leadership? They're supposed to not fear death and warbosses are supposed to massively inspire them.
>>
>>47007380
Okay seriously, fucking stop. We know you're assmad about there being several generals and you want to shit up our little camp. Go home furfag, and shit in your own lawn
>>
Man, reading through the Only War core book makes me love the IG even more. If I was feeling indecisive ablut my army, I feel much better about them now.
>>
>>47013744
It's a holdover from previous editions combined with how Mob Rule has been changed.

Supposedly, Orks used to get a bonus to leadership based on how many wounds were in a unit or something, which meant that a large blob of Orks with a Nob leading them would effectively be fearless until they took too many casualties, which is exactly how it should work.
>>
>>47013744
Orks used to have a fluffy rule where nobz and warbosses could buy either an iron gob to show that they had a dead 'ard chomp or a set of horns as a trophy from a big kill, either of which (but not both, it didn't stack) increased their leadership value by one, because as you say the boyz around them would be inspired.

This wargear option was removed without any stat changes to counter it 8 years ago, leaving even ghazghkull fucking thraka with leadership 9.
>>
>>47007437
As a Chaos player down to my very soul, I can at once say DEATH TO THE FALSE EMPEROR, but also, Bangles get props. They are pretty awesome and I have some. Sadly they're not well off. I shall hold out hope that my armies one day dont shit themselves on the table any longer...
>>
>>47013829
>>47013813

So i guess it's just a fuck up by GW? I always got the impression that orks would rarely feel like retreating since they believed they wouldn't die and they love a fight
>>
>>47013853
>So i guess it's just a fuck up by GW?

That's basically the recent Ork books in a nutshell. They've gotten a lot of stuff removed and point costs increased with nothing good to replace it.
>>
>>47013813
Mob rule was leadership = models, so 12+ was basically fearless as you couldn't fail the check. Then that was changed to 9+ models in a unit = the fearless USR.

Neither of each form of mob rule really affected any unit other than boyz. The new form of mob rule at least does that right, just very little else.
>>
>>47008537
Most of my Chaos is grey. But I'm also busy as hell and can't usually find the time to paint. Which is a damn shame because I got me a new Chaos Lord and he looks bitchin and I wanna bling his shit up

Fuck Captcha, leave me alone
>>
>>47013764
I love Only War, I'm running a game of it now, a Light Infantry Regiment. No one's even died, it's a Christmas miracle
>>
>>47013902
Yeah. It could work if they made Nobs count as multiple models for them or something so a Boss Nob could add to it further.

I definitly like the idea of Orks being Fearless at a critical mass more than the current Mob Rule though.
>>
>>47008537
My girlfriend's army is grey because she won't let me paint it for her and she won't paint until we finish college for ???? reasons.

While on the topic of orks, what do you believe the direction of a good ork codex would be? I often hear complaints that the current codex had no clear direction as to what an ork army is supposed to do/be.
>>
>>47014016
From a personal standpoint (and someone who doesn't play Orks), I like the idea of Orks as an army that centers on numbers, and Waagh to multiply those numbers.

Leadership being a factor of unit size makes sense, and encourages large units. Ork shooting should be based around getting lots of shots, so they need to be better about handing out twin-linked on more units.

Waagh shouldn't have become a constant thing you can do every turn using formations or traits or whatever. It should be one big thing that happens once or maybe twice per game, but affects ALL of your units and does so in a major way.

They should also have a lot of cool upgrades and wargear options. This ties into the twin-linking thing, but Orks should be scrapping stuff together and slapping guns on things all the time.

When you see an Ork force, it should be wildly different each time, but there should be 3 things in common. There's a lot of them, and once WAAGH comes they're going to hit you HARD.

Yeah I agree with that, although I'm not keen on army wide fearless as morale should definitely be a part of the game for all armies. The only fearless I definitely think should be in the army would be from the WAAAGH! and mega armour, as the fluff for the lucky nobz in the armour basically states they see themselves as being completely bulletproof in it.

>>47014016
I typed out a bunch of stuff there then realised I was basically describing the tactiks pages from the 2nd ed codex. Basically a well rounded army with reliable support units and a focus on assault is what I think orks should be like, GW seem scared of going out of the basic statline with orks. Why not drop furious charge from lootas but give them BS3? Just basic things like that would improve orks so much.

Also more weapon options would be fantastic, for melee we have either big choppas or power klaws - that's it. Power axes, mauls, big 'ammas and all sorts would be orky as fuck. There's no reason for them not to exist.
>>
>>47014439
Well, my idea specifically was that you count half the number of models you have, with Nobs counting for 4 and Bosspoles adding 3, and that would be the unit's leadership, with anything above 11 being fearless.

Thus, a squad of 30 boys with a nob boss would effectively be at 18 leadership, and they'd stay fearless until either the Nob and around 7 boys died, or twice that many boys died.

That's towards the upper end though. Most units would just be getting fearless for a brief moment while they were at full strength, and then get slightly higher leadership until they drop back to the standard 7 once casualties start to mount.

It makes morale still a factor, but it makes it behave differently, sort of like how it works for Tyranids.
>>
>>47014439
I've been thinking that orks should have options available to them relating to forcing enemies into assault, like traktor gunz that bring enemies forward or kommandoz having the option to take a force field gun that can push enemies toward the orks charging to them.

Just interesting support options would be good, and more options to get orks quickly into close combat, it doesn't make sense that nobs with huge choppas even exist if they always always get shot up before combat.
