I want something like vanilla D&D that's not D&D

Hackmaster. Middl earth role playing. Rifts, but only if everyone plays at vastly different power levels

FantasyCraft because it's pretty good. Lots of creativity and customization involved, without the bulkiness or limitations of D&D.

You can be anything you imagine. There is actually a lizard/dinosaur race that is very flexible.
