I'm not sure what to tell you.

Are you getting bonuses to hit from the Battle Templar, or anyone else using mundane means?
Are you using your boosts to get bonuses to hit instead of taking a damage bonus?

At least you've kept the plot going.

Question about the Snake mystery:

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/oracle/mysteries/kobold-press---oracle-mysteries/snakes

If Coils says you can make a grapple when you hit with "an unarmed melee attack," does that mean that a Snake oracle with Coils and Fangs can activate their free grapple off of their bite attack instead of an unarmed strike?

The Dwarf from Dragon's Crown. He pumps up his muscles up to reduce damage, fights with his hammers, fists, explosives and by picking up enemies and throwing them.

>>
>>46723396
>>46723458
Its dragons crown dwarf.

For class... I dunno. Brawler?

He grabs enemies and throws them into each other, he can create powderkegs and throw them, he can call lightning, he can turn his skin to stone, can create bombs, has some flying leap stuff, and is capable of attacking *extremely* fast with his hammers or fists.

His skills improve his throwing attacks (they do more damage and he gets to treat thrown enemies as 'splash' weapons, doing half their damage in an aoe). Improve his punching attacks. Give him the 'eagle dive / glide' (which also drops bombs). Causes his thrown weapons to call bolts of lightning. Give a flurry of blows like effect. Allow him to bascially set himself on fire and deal bonus damage with all of his abilities. Improve his bombs. Give him greater damage reduction. Restore health / durability for picking up [items not immediately converted into gold]. Prevent interruption on attacks

Oh and create bombs / powderkegs.

I'd say his core skills are probably closer to non-shitty monk / brawler specializing in grappling & very strange bull-rush mechanics.
>>
>>46723442
There is no such thing as an "unarmed melee attack," as unarmed strikes are weapons that you wield, and thus you're armed when you use them. Presuming they meant an unarmed strike, then no, you would not be able to do it with a natural attack. A lenient GM would probably be okay with it, though.
>>
>>46723165
i would have sex with the boy in OP's image.
>>
>>46723708
Oh jeez, sorry, guys, I thought I was in the 5e thread.
>>
>>46723651
That sounds like a Polymath (Alchemist) that traded Steel Serpent for Broken Blade.
>>
>>46723693
But unless you have the improved unarmed attack feat you count as unarmed when attacking with your fists.
>>
>>46723495
I know, I beat it earlier today, but it was a bitch.
>>
So, I am thinking about making a Battle Herald. Bastard Sword, primarily two-handed, but using shield as a back up. Power attack line, so ideally a respectable physical melee threat and excellent support.

Any recommendations? Also, is Battle Herald worth it at all?
>>
>>46723758
The bombs on bomb satchel / powder keg are all limited use though, at least with how dragons crown functions. Occasionally you can find items that give you bonus "skill" uses for getting an extra life, or repair your items but in general the initial designs of dragons crown were not 'infinite adventure mode'.

So I'd treat them more as purchased items / consumables. Eagle dive is the exception but it's a really, really shitty air attack compared to anything the Amazon has. The 'class skills' of the Dwarf are far more oriented around hitting shit with hammers / fists and grappling & throwing enemies (and being able to treat them as splash weapons).

So IMO brawler is the thing that fits.

Pretty much anything but solar wind and tempest gale will help you meet your goals.
>>
Fixed the skills to include armor check penalty.

A GM can send a couple of these NPCs to hunt and assassinate PC mages, but they might still lose to Color Spray or Sleep.
>>
>>46723853
They're a combination of trip, bull rush and grapple. With some ki throw shit mixed in.

>>46723944
They aren't an integral part of the dwarves kit; most people ignore them as consumable skills is really wizard / witch territory. In addition barring extreme end game items skills only get restocked upon returning to town. For simplicities sake I'd say treat them as consumable items rather than try to build them into the class, because the class itself really plays as more of a setting sun style book of nine swords character (that only occasionally uses its throws on the powder keg it brought along to the adventure and then grappled).
>>

Pathminder anon here. I'm working on converting the site to run as a Flask Python server so that I can fix up the archetypes to work as toggles on class pages like people have requested.

One disclaimer: at least for now, it will probably remain only one archetype at a time (e.g. combined archetypes will still need to be included as separate data files), because automated processing of archetype combinations would be way too damn complicated for something that's not a full-fledged character builder.

Just had a fun session. Most of the group got thrown in jail except my myself and one other. We were brought before the king and said we can join the army or be exiled to another plane. Loooooooooooots of people only run adventure paths.

Rise of the Runelords ends at 17th level.
Curse of the Crimson Throne ends at roughly 17th level.
Second Darkness ends at 17th level.
Legacy of Fire ends at 16th level.
Council of Thieves (if anyone gave a shit) ends at 13th level.
Kingmaker ends at 15th level.
Serpent's Skull ends at 17th level.
Carrion Crown ends at 15th level.
Jade Regent ends at 16th level.
Skull and Shackles ends at 15th level.
Shattered Star ends at 17th level.
Reign of Winter ends at 17th level.
Wrath of the Righteous ends at 20th level/Tier 10.
Mummy's Mask ends at 17th level.
Iron Gods ends at 17th level.
Giantslayer ends at 17th level.
Hell's Rebels ends at 17th level.

It's probably not accurate to say most all campaigns ever end AT 17th level (the vast majority end way earlier), but a lot of APs do and very few campaigns go past 17th level.

There's always a little section on potential post-end questing that can take you right up to 20th.
For example, Kingmaker has the Brevoy war possibly bubbling over, dick ass River Kingdoms shenanigans and the return of Choral the Conqueror in all his rape-happy glory as well as my personal favorite ever, FUCKIN' FEY, the Quest, involving the Eldest being dicks and the PCs being forced to 'pay off' the debt they owe for killing Nyrissa by resurrecting the bitch

>>46727825
Frenetic? It sounds as if you had never played any of these games.
Combat in these games is a fairly slow affair, unless you're using Dual Blades in MH. It's all about knowing the patterns of enemies, their tells, the timing of their attacks, the timing of your own attacks and being able to tell when you have an opening.
The only time combat gets frantic is when you have too many enemies upon you at the same time. And if that happens, it's almost always by your own failure.
>>
>>46723567
Okay, so necromancy represents a form of motherhood in that game. I get that part. It explains why the Sorceress must have unbelievable back pain.

Why does the axe chick have thighs that could crush the Earth's crust? What does that imply? I am not complaining, I am asking because the Sorceress makes me actually take the fanservice in that game seriously.

>>46724214
Is it possible to have the current site as an option, still? So you could either click and have an individual archetype swapped in, or be able to see how multiple archetypes stack?

Considering that her occupation revolves around making things as life/motionless as possible, wouldn't it make sense for as much of her to be geared for that as possible?

Or in case of unruly earth elementals.

The ONLY thing it is good for is pumping out mostly-correct characters en masse. It is NOT a good rules source and is WAY too expensive to really rely on, especially since there are a ton of errors and incorrect developer changes in it.

If it helps, I and I'm sure others here know that feeling. Keeping a group together is a very delicate balancing act of people actively trying to be involved and those involved being willing to work as part of the group.

Was it an IRL group? Have you tried looking around online? PbP/Roll 20 aren't perfect, but a good online game is better than no game at all. A bad online game is exactly as bad as a bad IRL game, but at least you don't have to smell/see the people in a bad online game.

Anyone have much experience with Bardic Masterworks? Are any of them particularly worthwhile?

I'm going with a Rubato/Geisha (Neither Archetype overlaps) Bard but I've not a heap of experience with it.

The fact that Rubato Bards can regen a point of bardic music every round of combat makes them seem more tempting.

After that my character didn't want to kill him, but she was in emotional storm (the ex-PC was very similar to someone from my character's background) and one of her magic item activated "by mistake" and blinded him forever.

Now my character is sad about what she did to him. But man that was FUN.

You mean aside from gunslinger?
>>
>>46730602
For some reason our GM has a massive hate boner for Gunslingers. I can make an argument to play one but I know it's going to get shit on somehow.
>>
>>46730616
Refluff the crossbow gunslinger? Bolt Ace, I think?
>>
>>46730616
GMs here "hit on touch AC" and automatically think it's over powered, not bothering to read on and see for most early firearms that it's only the case at the first range increment.
>>
>>46730630
I was honestly thinking of taking 1 level dip of Wizard for the Spellslinger archetype, then either going full Enigma Mesmerist or Shadow Caller Spiritualist.
>>
>>46730648
>it's only the case at the first range increment.
That has literally nothing to do with whether it's overpowered or not. The vast majority of fights take place in a very small area, especially since most of the time at least some of the party will want to get into melee.
>>
>>46730723
No, but it has to do with why they're perceived as being overpowered. DMs see it and think it can hit touch AC all day, but it only can from the first increment where the monster is going to charge up, or already be in range to murder.
>>
>>46730723
They also never consider the fact that the gunslinger is just as fucked as a crossbowman in terms of action economy. Sure they hit on touch, but it takes more feats and possibly items than it should to actually get in a full attack.
>>
>>46730562
Kirin Style stacked on top of it isn't bad, plus if you have Combat Stamina which you can get for free as a Fighter you can get Int to damage on all attacks against an identified target.
>>
I was thinking of homebrewing a class called the "Arcane Dancer" (or Arcanodancer). It'd be a hybrid class of the Bard and the Magus. It'd focus on getting extra move actions and being able to switch between dance styles for buffing, debuffing, or offensive uses.

It'd be a more supportish role, with the main goal of the class to be disruption (crowd control) and buffing.

Would anybody be interested in playing an arcane dancer if it were homebrewed?
>>
>>46730784
Combat Stamina makes Kirin Style GOAT. But it's SUPER rare for a game to run with the stamina system, which is fucking criminal considering how much of an improvement it is on the base game.
>>
i have to be the full caster dude of my level from 8 to 14(?) party, which is probably going to be full of people who know how to deal damage. note that since our DM is doing a PB 30, but dumping stats is forbidden, i can keep two stats up pretty good.

I was indecided between arcanist, shaman, wizard and psychic. What would you suggest? what's the difference in term of how versatile/wich things i will be good at? what does the psychic even do at the table.
>>
>>46730997
Why would dumping stats be forbidden?
>>
>>46730997
Personally I would choose Aracanist, just because I prefer their casting style. Stat spread could go for 11, 14, 14, 18, 12, 10 before levels or racial bonuses.
>>
>>46731007
Probably because the DM doesn't like dump stats.

Really, there's no reason that you can't RP your careless, naive Chosen One Paladin as such, even if he has 10 Int and Wis.
>>
>>46731070
If your Wizard wanted to study magic because he was never strong enough to fight conventionally, it makes sense to have a below average strength score
>>
>>46731138
Yeah, but that's easy enough to role-play even with an average strength score.
>>
>>46723452
Yeah, that's an annoying one. You gotten past it, or still stuck?
>>
>>46730973

What are some of the best feats to use with combat stamina? It's looking to become a big part of my group's campaigns from here on out.
>>
>>46731138
Honestly, I think you can make interesting RP decisions for your character BUT they don't have to really be reflected in the mechanics. To a degree, anyway.

Your weak Wizard might be ABLE to lift 30 pounds with no problem, but hell if he isn't going to bitch about it incessantly!

Your naive Chosen One Paladin might have a good Sense Motive modifier, but he sure as fuck is going to take literally everything people say to him at face value AND assume it's 100% the truth.

Your BSF might actually have a huge Knowledge (engineering) score, but it's actually just a combination of dumb luck and parroting things he's heard from party members and more informed folks.

Now, do you want to play a moron with 16 Int? Well, maybe you can make it work. It'll stress if it's believable, but as long as you can make the RP fit the mechanics, why not try that kind of thing?
>>
>>46731070

>>46730997
while my DM is definitely not a fan of dump stats, but his given reason was that we are part of an elite militar organization that only selects people after a hard well-rounded series of tests.

It isn't even a far shot from reality: when i was 17 i spent 3 days in a militar academy as part of a project and the Marshal told us that once he had to kick out one of his best students, who later turned out to be a really good rocket science, just because he couldn't jump into the water properly.
>>
>>46731280
Alright, that does make sense. In a party of murderhobos though, I would definitely have a dump stat
>>
>>46730768
They hit on touch which is massive, on top of getting dex to damage. Advanced firearms also hit touch within the first 5 range increments. That said, I think early firearms are fine, it's just advanced firearms when it starts getting crazy.
>>
>>46731248
Kirin Strike is one of the better ones for sure, but Pummeling Style's "full attack as a Standard action" is pretty baller, as is Strangler's "deal sneak attack on any grapple check"

Can you guys help me out real quick?
I'm trying to play a death-machine Juju Oracle. I've got undead goin' already, and have decided to try and put diseases in my loadout, as well. Using SoP's Death sphere, I can inflict disease in a cone, then spam Virulence (the Oracle spell) to make everyone fall over and die. The problem is, the save DCs for diseases I'm allowed to inflict are super low, highest one being Bubonic Plague with 17. The initial DC for the infliction itself is fine since it uses my normal sphere DC, but then the disease uses it's own DC which is simply too low, even with the -2 penalty from Virulence. I'm level 8, I can't be going around with DC17 stuff still! Perhaps diseases are just not viable with my build for combat use? I suppose I could use them on peasants instead of level-appropriate encounters.
So, in short: How do I make the diseases I inflict deadlier and harder to resist? If there's a better method than SoP's Death sphere available, please let me know, also!

Wh-

They can't FULL ATTACK, anon. You know what makes archery amazing? It's Rapid Shot/Manyshot. You know what makes DEALING DAMAGE even VIABLE? It's being able to hit with several attacks, each multiplying all your assorted damage bonuses.

Early firearms are garbage and if your DM is not at least giving you advanced firearms - and a better class than the gunslinger with its key benefits in an archetype or something - you are to be blunt making a big step down. Advanced firearms are the starting point.

But "5% misfire" is even worse when you do get to full attacks. You need to simultaneously have a misfire of "never" and either free action reloading or a swift action clip that'll last you through more than one round.

Otherwise you're just playing a shitty archer. And, to be blunt, gunslingers are inevitably shitty archers. Don't buy into the hype, "dex to damage is massive" anon. They're banned because people are fucking stupid, not because there's a problem.

These are the same guys who won't touch new products because "I am not familiar with it" by which they mean they are functionally illiterate and can only run APs that don't require them to think. They ban 3pp because it's "broken," by which they mean they are independently incapable of evaluating any part of the game's mechanics and they don't know what to do with something that wasn't "vetted." They strip out anything it seems like a lot of other people are worried about, because the kneejerk is all-consuming.

>>
>>46731810

>>
>>46731810
Such a game is likely a T3-4 only game, which I've had reasonably good success with. It requires some careful DMing because you don't have full casters to remove conditions and other such things but can definitely work.

It can work well, as long as the DM includes NPCs that can help with rituals and such.
>>
>>46731745
Wut. I've seen the difference between a well-made gunslinger and a well-made archer myself, playing both and seeing both ran in Iron Gods. 1-handed firearms take exactly one feat to be able to full attack, so I dunno what your first sentence is on about, and misfiring is the tradeoff to hitting touch and x4 crits, while still being able to be essentially negated by Lucky, Mysterious Stranger, Reloading Hands or any of the other ways of negating misfires.

So what you end up with is essentially an archer who spends a single extra feat to get dex to damage and hit touch AC. Advanced firearms make the situation even worse, since misfiring is no longer a serious issue (you lose 2 attack/damage, which still puts you at a higher damage/hit rate than a bow)

Time to post firearm houserules again.
>When firing a firearm, the attack resolves against the target’s flat-footed AC when the target is within the first range increment of the weapon.
>When a firearm attack is made against a creature with a dodge bonus, there is a chance that the attack resolves against normal AC. The chance is 20% times the dodge bonus.
>It is a move action to load each barrel of a one-handed firearm and a standard action to load each barrel of a two-handed firearm.
>When you hit with a two-handed firearm, add 1/2 your Dexterity modifier to the damage result.

>Rapid Reload (Combat)
>Choose either the crossbows or firearms weapon group. You can reload such weapons quickly.
>Prerequisites: Weapon Proficiency (weapon group chosen).
>Benefit: The time required for you to reload your chosen type of weapon is reduced to a free action (for a hand or light crossbow or one-handed firearm) or a move action (for a heavy crossbow or two-handed firearm). Reloading a crossbow or firearm still provokes attacks of opportunity.
>Normal: A character without this feat needs a move action to reload a hand or light crossbow or one-handed firearm, or a standard action to reload a heavy crossbow or a two-handed firearm.
>Special: You can gain Rapid Reload multiple times. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a new weapon group.

>Firearm Mastery (Combat)
>You are significantly faster at loading a firearm, as well as a better shot.
>Prerequisites: Rapid Reload (firearms).
>Benefit: Select one specific type of firearm (such as an axe musket, blunderbuss, musket, or pistol). The time required for you to reload that type of firearm is reduced to a free action. You resolve your attacks with that type of firearm against flatfooted AC when the target is within the first five range increments. You gain a bonus equal to your Dexterity modifier on damage rolls when firing that type of firearm.

>>
>>46731851
"Exactly one feat" is not a small cost for an archery build, and they're locked out of manyshot. You're delaying your progression, spending a fuckton of gold, and praying to the RNG gods not to deliver more misfire than you can handle so you can...what, land your fourth natural iterative, the one that comes online at level 16?
>>
>>46731851

>>46731912
Losing manyshot is hardly a massive cost compared to what you gain, and as long as you're losing it anyway you're not spending any extra feats to get rapid reload instead.
>>46731937
My point was that you need one more feat than a traditional archer, and you get dex to damage in exchange. What's so bad about gunslinger?
>>
My party is a conjuration wizard, fractured mind spiritualist, and a longbow ranger with an archetype that removes spells. What class should I pick to complement them?
>>
>>46731967
Gunslinger exists solely to make Guns SORT of work. Without Dex to Damage, they're 100% inferior to a Composite Longbow, and WITH Dex to Damage they're still inferior, but at least usable.

Guns are shit, and I ban guns and Gunslingers in my games BECAUSE they are shit.
>>
>>46732005
Right, so now you're just going over to baseless assertions. Just about everything has garbage touch AC, and the ability to hit on essentially every attack and get deadly aim+dex damage isn't to be overlooked. There are a number of ways of overcoming misfires, and advanced firearms make just about all the criticisms of firearms moot (misfires irrelevent, good range with the same crits etc).

Does anyone else find it considerably exhilarating to layer on divination spell after divination spell on oneself and then view an important scene in what amounts to Eagle Vision?

Earlier in an Osirion-based game, my wizard had cast See Invisibility, Pierce Disguise, Detect Scrying, Tears to Wine, and Greater Detect Magic on themselves before surveying a major conclave of a massive gathering of aristocrats and guild leaders. The GM was considerate enough to describe the many intriguing secrets revealed to my character under their enlightened senses.

as an investigator, can I stack polymath (diminished extracts per day) and sleuth (removes the ability to use extracts at all)?

It doesn't say that the diminished extracts replaces or alters the base alchemy class feature, just that I can cast 1 less than usual to a minimum of 0, which I would have by default if I got rid of that ability entirely

Discuss
>>
>can't use minor creation to make spell components
Went from a 8/10 spell to 4/10 in one sentence, I know it has some niche uses but honestly seeing as the stuff you create disappears after a while, what's the point?
>>
>>46732600
No you cannot. They both alter the "extracts" class feature and are thus incompatible.
>>
>>46732600
No. Diminished extracts clearly alters extracts, even if it doesn't explicitly state "this ability alters extracts" and any decent GM would slap you with the book for attempting to get him to rule otherwise.
>>
>>46732600
No. What you're trying to do wouldn't be fair, if we pretended Sleuth was in any way desirable for any purpose. It would mean certain archetypes would "cost" less than they're supposed to. 1 minus 2 is not 0 (neutral trade), it's -1.
>>
So yeah, the game last night dragged on needlessly long. The enemy had a strategically sound position and it would have been a pain either way, but certain things made the fight longer than needed.

* The other summoner kept splitting his attacks amongst different targets, nearly all mooks. Said targets were already defined to have DR as well.

* When the summoner finally did something useful (incapacitate the enemy spellcaster by having one of his minions grapple it), the party druid almost immediately kills the summoned monster with an area effect spell. When I told him "Oh great, now he can cast spells at us again", the druid player replied "WITH PENALTIES!" as if he was the king chessmaster in the group.

* Said druid player also shows very little respect to the DM. The DM spelled out what books he would allow. Said player keeps trying to take third-party feats, spells, equipment, etc. in hopes the DM misses that.
>>
>>46732704
all the good archetypes that replace casting with something else take up way more requirements than sleuth does, it only works with this situation
>>
>>46732842
If you are trying to argue that Sleuth doesn't alter or replace the Extracts class feature, then you're just straight up lying to yourself. You KNOW it alters the ability specifically by removing the ability to use it at all.

There is no debate to be had here. You can't have less than nothing, and you sure as fuck can't take a reduction to a class feature you don't even have.
>>
>>46732842
Sleuth expects to be subtracting a full feature, not a half a feature or any other alteration of that feature. The reason is because it is *supposed to* be adding stuff that is exactly equal in value to that full feature - not part of it or an altered version of it.

That said, Sleuth is literally one of the worst archetypes in the entire game, possible The Worst. The only one you would even be cheating is yourself even if you do decide to cheat into it.

Quit being butthurt over the fact that it doesn't let you have multiple totems anymore, that makes it unnecessary, not actively bad like Sleuth.
>>
>>46734071
It's an archetype that does absolutely nothing. It has literally no place in the game, since writing it down on your sheet changes no part of your character whatsoever. It's the "worst" because it has no purpose in existing.

>>
>>46734114
A neutral change will never be worse than something that is actively harmful to you. You can be grumpy that they wasted an eighth of a page on an archetype that does nothing, but it's infinitely better than something like Sleuth that goes out of its way to make you not good.

>>46734239

>>46734265

>>
>>46734309
There's not a DSP archetype that removes the alchemy or something? There seems to be one for practically every class
>>
>>46734311
Yeah, don't. They're pretty solid by themselves, and dipping into another random class will only dilute what you're capable of doing.

Dips are very rarely a good idea in PF, unless you're a martial trying to pick up a very specific low-level ability (such as Fighter bonus feats, Paladin Divine Grace, etc.). In the case of a class that lives and breathes by its class features (of which a spellcaster like the Magical Child is one), you don't EVER want to multiclass out UNLESS you're getting something of SIGNIFICANT value, which is very rare.

>>46734387
Polymath is a class template for Investigators and Alchemists that lessens the number of extracts they make per day. It doesn't remove them.

The Vigilante archetype for the Stalker DOES get Inspiration AND an Int-focus, making it likely the strongest skillmonkey in PF.

I'm the chaotic neutral cleric of a chaotic evil god. Is there any way I can get the ability to channel positive energy instead of negative energy, preferably with as little decrease to my actual ability to channel as possible?
>>
>>46734505
Yeah I'm pretty sure you're allowed to choose. I haven't played a cleric in ages, though, so I could be wrong
>>
>>46734538
Nope. Only Neutral Clerics of Neutral deities get to choose.

>A good cleric (or one who worships a good deity) channels positive energy and can choose to deal damage to undead creatures or to heal living creatures. An evil cleric (or one who worships an evil deity) channels negative energy and can choose to deal damage to living creatures or to heal undead creatures. A neutral cleric who worships a neutral deity (or one who is not devoted to a particular deity) must choose whether she channels positive or negative energy. Once this choice is made, it cannot be reversed.
>>
>>46734638
Also, Versatile Channeler specifically has a statement that disallows folks who worship Evil or Good deities from taking it.

>Note: This feat only applies to necromancers, neutral clerics who worship neutral deities, or neutral clerics who do not worship a deity—characters who have the channel energy class ability and have to make a choice to channel positive or negative energy at 1st level. Clerics whose alignment or deity makes this choice for them cannot select this feat.

So it sounds like the short answer is: nope, there isn't a way. Unless you figure out a way to make your friends count as Undead so that you can heal them with Channel Negative Energy. Which I think is a Domain power.

Paladin, obviously. Tough, shiny, and with CHA to make the ladies happy. Take the Bodyguard/In Harm's Way feats so you can selflessly protect them, take Weapon Bond so you can give your "weapon" a power boost in times of emergencies. For mercies, you're definitely going to want Fatigued, Dazed, and Exhausted. Definitely take a trait to get Perception as class bonus to help detect traps (unless you're into that), as well as Sense Motive to help you avoid becoming a shounen protagonist.

Best of luck.

Aegis and/or Alchemist.

Remember that having six arms doesn't necessarily mean you can USE all six arms for weapons. Barbarians, Paladins and PoW martials have really good survivability, compared to most other martials.

Barbarians have gobs of HP, DR/-, and with Superstition can have crazy big saves.
Paladins get tons of immunities, swift action Lay on Hands to self-heal, and big saves from Divine Grace.
PoW martials have counters and class features that help them stay alive.
>>
>>46736534

Well, a half-orc Sacred Tattoo/Fate's Favored Invulerable Rager Barbarian with the Superstition tree can get some hilariously high saves, plus DR = 1/2 level increases survival vs. HP damage.

Pretty much all the PoW martials have pretty good survivability, Paladin and Superstitious Barbarian are also hard to take down.

Sounds balanced, but over complicated and not super fun.

Personally, I've given up on having a balanced version of guns that also feels fun for the players. My solution is thus:

>I run a lot of campaigns set in a place sort of like Hyper Light Drifter X Adventure Time (i.e. its a fantasy setting where the "lost ruins of a great ancient civilization" are the ruins of a dystopian semi-scifi version of real life).

>Guns are rare, and so are bullets.
>The only people that have them tend to be extremely rich kingpins or very successful adventurers.
>Finding guns or bullets in the wild is pretty much limited to extremely dangerous ancient ruins.
>No one knows how to make bullets except maybe the occasional master alchemist can make shotgun shells or shitty knock off bullets for a high price.
>Similar deal for guns: maybe a master blacksmith can make a crude pistol or shotgun, after dismantling and studying an already existing firearm for months on end, and it will still be super expensive.

>Guns themselves are super strong
>ranged attacks vs flatfooted ac always
>very high flat damage, very little variance
>most firearms dont require action to reload unless changing magazines
>super over powered

Basically the only reason guns dont destroy the balance of my games is because the party probably wont find a gun for like 5 levels, and even then they'll only have like 2 bullets for months.

Out of the 5 campaigns I've played in this setting, 4 of the parties only ever used guns as a panic button. Stuff like "John if you don't kill the mindflayer this turn, we are going to get tpk'd" and "Holy shit he's gunna bomb the wall! SHOOT HIM!."

Admittedly, that 1 other party had a habit of saving their bullets for killing bbegs in like 3 turns... but whatever, i've learned since then.
>>
>>46726956
>That last spoiler'd
Yeah, because after an entire campaign of sandbox exploration, kingdom-building, and epic warfare, obviously what the players really need is to get bitched at all-powerful beings and forced onto an un-fun railroad.
(Still, it's probably a good thing when the worst thing in an adventure series is one of the multiple, entirely-optional, ways to extend the campaign.)

You "lose" a caster level in that the first level of Agent of the Grave doesn't give you a caster level.
>>
>>46737047

Well. Animate Dead animates a number of HD worth of monsters. As far as the spell is concerned, 10 1HD skeletons is the same as 1 10HD skeleton.

Personally I find the strongest necromancer in regards to number of HD you cant control is the Juju Oracle, you can control 6HD of stuff per caster level instead of 4 per caster level. Stack feats that boost your caster level (Mage's Tattoo, Spell Specialization, Undead Mastery, Spell Perfection) and grab an Orang Prism Ioun Stone. You can hit like 150HD of undead at like level 13, its crazy.

If you're not a huge power-gaming faggot about it, its not that broken, but its so hard to resist that kind of power when you know it exists...

Most the two DMs I play with regularly have banned this shit out right.

Gunslinger guides and builds say that bolt aces can resolve all their attacks against touch AC.

The only way I can see this happening is if you take Sharp Shoot (resolve ONE attack vs touch AC). The guides seem to be implying that you take signature deed to ensure you are resolving your attacks vs touch AC, which isn't allowed since on:
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/gunslinger/archetypes/paizo---gunslinger-archetypes/bolt-ace
it says that:
>>Performing this deed costs 1 grit point. This deed's cost cannot be reduced by any ability or effect that reduces the amount of grit points a deed costs (such as Signature Deed).

So are all the guides wrong? Are they old and Paizo decided that gunslingers were overpowered (kek), resulting in a nerf and the guides weren't updated? Or is there some other way of resolving attack rolls vs touch AC that all these builds are using that I don't know?
>>
>>46738455
It was a nerf. The line forbidding Signature Deed was added in UC errata to all sorts of deeds, as was the nerf making Signature Deed once per round.

This, as far as I know.

Bolt Ace gunslinger is still nice once you get Inexplicable Reload, though, since it means you can dual-wield Repeating Crossbows and give absolutely zero fucks about reloading feats.

Unfortunately this implies that you take the -2 penalty for firing a light crossbow one-handed, on top of the -2 penalty for TWF.

That inexplicable reload sounds nice though, and as long as the player had enough balls to tell the DM that "loaded means I have a full magazine of bolts, not just having one bolt in each mag" it might still be decent.

If he misses every shot with Full BAB and 18 or better Dex, then it's his dice, not the class. The slog to level 5 for Dex to Damage is a huge kick in the dick for ANY gunslinger type, and it's why nobody ever suggests ACTUALLY PLAYING a Gunslinger of any sort.

Really, the tl;dr is: if you want to be a ranged guy who isn't a spellcaster, the answer is always 100% "dude with a composite longbow".

True, you take some extra penalties to hit; maybe it would be better to go with a single Heavy Repeating Crossbow instead.

>>tons of attacks at slightly lower BAB tends to be slightly better than fewer attacks at a higher BAB
Huh, interesting - a heavy repeating crossbow with gravity bow would be a nice idea. 2d8 isn't too bad, and with rapid reload and crossbow mastery it's a free action to reload.
>>
>>46738922
Crossbows can all be fired with one hand, they only need two to reload, like guns.

Also, weapons can be made in other sizes.
>>
>>46739081
>Crossbows can all be fired with one hand

Oh, good point.

So, if a medium character wanted to, they could wield a large crossbow in two hands since a large character could wield it in one hand, but the medium character would still be taking a -2 penalty for the size difference?
>>
>>46739267
Theoretically, perhaps.

Although that likewise MIGHT mean that you wouldn't have enough 'hands' to reload it.

Wouldn't be an issue with Inexplicable Reload though.
