i would say just embrace big guy randomness and have fun

the only thing you can do to make them really competitive is make disgusting min maxed kill squads without most of/all of the big guys. but it will take a while, might not come off, and you will hate yourself even if you achieve it (though not as much as your opponents will)

So, I won both a league game and a tournament game today, how did you do /bbg/?

Tied in the rookie league, demolished a guy's team in the box (8 cas), won a stunts game, and screwed myself over going for a surf in the 1st have instead of walking in for the Td, 1-1 tie.

There is a new 10 man round-robin season up in the BB2 league for those who are interested. Apply with a fresh team or use your old team from season 1.

These Dark elves brought their famous agile running game with one caveat:
It seems that many lineman of the team were members of an obscure Khaine Cult, who expressed their evil and anger by cutting themselves, dressing up weirdly, crying and sulking.
Many of them refused to wear the armored uniforms of the team, arguing that the coach "shouldn't censor their individuality" or "he just didn't get them". As a result, they got killed one by one in the field, as their choice of clothing often left the midriff or other vital areas exposed.
Nevertheless, the blitzers carried the team and brought victory.
In an insider interview, Tooby expressed his willingness to go on with the EdgeMast4ers, stating "He just likes to elf" and "Cloe was best elf" adding "Maki is my waifu".

Undead is easier to not lose with than humans, but humans are a lot easier to score with and to play defense with

The cherrypicking environment in Ranked means it's much easier to build your team to astronomical TVs without getting cut down by murder teams. You can't cherrypick in Ranked Tournaments either, so the spectacle is watching these gigantic farmed teams go at it.

Box is more "realistic", but generally has lower chances of watching 3000TV+ titans slugging it out and Legend blood watering the grass.

4 Blitzers, 2 RRs. Runner optional; you can get a lineman instead and bank 10k towards an apothecary (which you are going to need).

Most new players severely underestimate how vulnerable an AV7 player is - if an AV7 guy is hit by a regular block, there's a 41% base chance that he's out for 2 turns or even more! This gets even worse when you add Mighty Blow and/or gangfouling to the mix. Don't add expensive Witches or Assassins to your lineup until you've got a bit of a bank built up to replace them - death or serious injury is very likely in their future.

2 RRs are not enough, but they're the most you can afford starting out and having only 2 is good practice for being disciplined about making dice rolls.

The general "safe" order for perpetual league is to buy the apothecary, then a 3rd RR, then start thinking about expanding the team with Witches (assuming you don't have to replace any elves before then, which is likely).

Cripes, been too busy this week. Let's get to some Veteran League team reviews.

Red Fang Rockets (5/3/5): Coach MauledByTigers prioritizes two things on the team: Block, and then Guard. It's not an exciting or hair-raising combo, but the Rockets have two Playoff nominations under their belt and a W/T/L record more positive than negative. Their play the past few seasons has been slow, grinding, and implaceable, but with the basics under their belt it will have to be seen whether their coach tries for something more ambitious. Black Orc Rukrippa is the standout player and best exemplifies the Rocket approach to things - gang up, out-strength your opponent, and bash him until he stops moving.

Animeted Clothing (14/1/3): Despite the absolute best record in the League and two League Leader awards, the Clothing must be seeing red at having the /tg/ trophy denied twice in the last two seasons. Their incredible power on the pitch cannot be denied though and this may be their season with several 'roided out players, including the astonishingly agile Bull Centaur Cowboy Tanktop.

My Little Arsenal (3/1/3): Everyone's favourite halfling team (whether you enjoy seeing them win or get squashed) is back in the Vet League - a literal midget among giants. Success for them this season will depend entirely on the performance of their impressively developed Treemen Ignite and Fuse, and whether Coach Skudrinka decides to actually spend the inducement money the team will be getting in every matchup rather than launder it into New World tax havens.

Za Underwarudo (3/1/3): Despite a near-cursed start in last season's rookie league, Za Underwarudo is looking to turn the luck around this season after employing the services of several exorcists and shamans. Star Blitzer Skaven Door was able to stave off complete humiliation for the team in several games last season and has a good chance of developing into a killer to grace the league lists.

Candy Rappers (4/4/5): Star Skaven Blitzer Ludacrispy Treats scored the most casualties in the the second regular Veteran season. While he still trails overall compared to the likes of the Poundinator and Brood, this season offers fresh new opportunities for the Candy Rappers to inflict serious damage. The rest of the Skaven core of the team is also well seasoned with few injuries, and the Rappers are looking like a serious playoff contender again.

Monkey Majik (1/3/3): A dismal performance in their debut rookie season don't have the Majik down - with several developed players, including AG4 Chimpanzee Chi Chi, the team has places to go, assuming they can keep their AV7 apes out of any bad monkey business this season in the rough-and-tumble Veteran's League.

Doomstar Requiem (2/3/1): Move over, Animeted Clothing - Doomstar Requiem is here as the brash upstart Chaos Dwarf team here to take the glory for Mingol-Zharr-Naggrund, and also your qt Chaos Dwarf anime waifus to boot! The dark gods have favoured this young team - while not nearly as skilled as other Veteran teams, Chaos Dwarves Murderface and Skwigelf have been blessed with razor sharp claws, which should help even out the odds against other Veteran heavyweights.

Naggarond Knife-Ears (5/0/7): The Knife-Ears remain the sole team defending the honour of Malekith this season, despite losing a Blitzer, Witch Elf, and Kicker in a brutal season 2 that nevertheless saw them make the playoffs - and also remain the only team without a single tie to their record! The very dangerous but brittle Witch Elf "Porcelain" Kyocera, who made her debut in season 2, will be a key facet to their no-compromise "win big or lose big" approach this season.

Vintage Veterans (2/5/4): With One Night Rack taking a break this season it may be time for the other Necromantic teams to come out of the former League champion's shadow. The Vintage Veterans are undoubtedly the swiftest Necromantic team in the league, with nimble players like Flesh Golem Fronk (recently picked up ballet!) and Werewolves Grey Vixen and Moon Moon. While speed is on their side the Veterans can hopefully pick up the offensive slack this season by leaving their Wolves off ball-carrying duty and instead doing what they do best - disemboweling opposing players.

Wurld's Ej Face Fumpers (3/3/1): The Face Fumpers are the flamboyant mirror to the Red Fang Rockets, featuring a surprisingly ball-centric game (well, for an Orc team, that is). The team has an amazing thrower/catcher pair in aptly named Urluk Sharpshoota and Throd "Da Serjeon" Brainrippa. Rumours of Brainrippa hanging up his helmet and going into a fulfilling post-doctorate in Mad Doktorship have been greatly exaggerated; no worries fans, he's here for at least another season.

Big Bad Evil Guys (1/3/3): Blood Bowl domination fell a little flat in their debut rookie league season for the BBEGs, but they did their fair share of the hurting and are starting to develop key skills on the rest of the supporting team. While the team still lacks skill and depth compared to most other Veteran teams, the imposing presence of the Galvatron/Skeletor/Mumm-Ra trio on the pitch coupled with generous inducement donations (courtesy of the League of International Villainy) this season will go a long way towards evening up the odds on the pitch.

Buddhist Elves (5/4/6): With Buddha now in his 3rd incarnation as Siddhartha (and a helpful understudy waiting in the wings), the Buddhist Elves have all they need for a playoff spot. Linemen, Catchers, and Throwers, you say? Never mind them; everyone knows a Wood Elf team is just two Wardancers and a Treeman. But seriously speaking, the addition of Catcher Nirvana to the team gives the team a much more credible fast scoring threat.

Foot Blooters (2/1/4): Despite getting mauled early in their rookie league season (a recurring theme with elves in the /tg/ league), the Foot Blooters struggled on to the end and now face an even steeper uphill battle against the far more ferocious Veteran League teams. All is not lost, however - while bad injuries dog the positionals the lineman core is slowly but surely developing competency. So long as Coach Yogzototh can continue to stem the (literal) bleeding, he'll be able to build this team into something fierce. Hopefully this can happen before the end of the season.

Bretonnian Werewolf in Tilea (5/4/6): Tilea is now the big wolf in the pound with ONR out of the picture, but in their first game this season suffered the untimely death of star Emily Perkins, our pick for the player to watch this season. With Perkins out, the team is going to have to lean very heavily on the rest of the talent, which is fortunately quite excellent - ST5 golem Peter Boyle and talented ghoul Mitsu Murata.

That's it for a Veteran's League overview. Sadly I probably won't have the time to do as many match reports this season - I encourage you guys to go ahead and do your own.
