"What character would you make if you were allowed into a game right now, with no other information given; post your build" edition

Noteworthy points:
>Drastically reined-in magic system putting casters on equal footing with non-casters
>Classes and the game as a whole designed to ensure everyone can contribute in a wide range of circumstances, even outside their primary niche
>Separate cash and Reputation economies keep mundane gear relevant and magic items special
>Custom monster and NPC design is a breeze
>Optional Campaign Qualities tweak mechanics to suit your preferred style and tone

Saving your valiant effort.

Anyway, probably either the elf sniper build or the elf martial artist/edgemaster build.
>>
>>46562152
I've never played fantasycraft but I want to because it looks a bit less restrictive and crunchy than DnD/PF and I'd play a Paladin.

Or a commander class (forget its name right now) and go into Paladin at 5 which is how I understand it works. Be martially focussed and use a massive shield to protect the weak and meek.
>>
>>46563930
Yeah, Paladin is an Expert class, so you can take it starting from level 5 if you meet the prereqs.

Captain is a good intro into Paladin, as is Priest or Crusader depending on your style. (Priest and Crusader have the benefit of access to Paths, which lets them pick up Bandage from the first step in the Path of Life rather than needing to spend a feat on it)

I'm considering running this in a few weeks when another campaign finishes up, and neither I nor anyone else will have played it before. What's the best way to ease into it?

Also, is development for this dead? From lurking it seems like Spellbound's been in development hell (not that it really matters much).

Too many options to come up with a build.
I usually wait to see what the others play to pare down my options.

I'd be interested in playing a Rune Knight, a Force of Nature or someone who fights unarmed, stealing his enemies' weapons as they attack.
My issue with the latter is that I don't see any way to not become weaker when trying to kill someone with their own weapon.
>>
I tried to read this five years ago but the page layout felt like my eyes were falling down a staircase. Have they made a version that fixes that yet?

Depends on how well your group can handle new things. I recommend using several one-shots so that you can get the grasp of different sets of mechanics and see how you like them; which will inform you on IF you want to use them.

>What character would you make if you were allowed into a game right now, with no other information given; post your build
Well, given no further info about the game, I'd be reluctant to bring out the characters I'm most interested in playing. I'd want a game I can count on to run decently long, and with other players who'd get into the RP side of it, to really do the character ideas justice. Plus some of them are a bit more out there so I'd need to make sure the rest of the group is cool with them first.

So I'd go with an old character I did once in a D&D campaign that never quite got off the ground. Former town guard whose home and family got wiped out when an invading army broke past the defenders. He feels personally responsible for this loss, and is determined never to let any foe past him ever again.

He'd be a Guardian Soldier, probably Grizzled, Single-Minded, or Stern, with Polearm B/M/S, Aggro B/M/S, and Master of the Battlefield.

Or, alternatively, picking up the first Step of your chosen Path for Paladin so you can complete it by the time you reach Paladin level 9.

Personally, I find the best way to ease people into any RPG is for at least the GM to be really familiar with it (either from prior experience or just spending a lot of time going over the rulebook and other resources like forums as necessary to get a solid handle on things) and have him kind of walk the rest through it at first until they get the hang of it themselves. That's how I first got into tabletop, and I've been introducing people with no gaming experience whatsoever to FC using oneshots with premade characters I put together in advance for them to pick from and walking them through it.

So does PCGen just not let you take proficiencies?

It's my go-to character builder for pathfinder but I can't make heads or tails of this shit

I need some YouTube guides on how to run this game. Vimeo and other knockoffs are also acceptable.

Is there a faster way to make NPCs and Cohorts that doesn't require me taking a week off?

NPC gen isn't that hard dude.

Not sure any such thing exists. Plenty of text out there on the web as far as reviews, Let's Reads, etc. but hardly any videos that I'm aware of, or even audio podcasts. Downsides of a lesser-known system from a small company with a small fanbase.

>Is there a faster way to make NPCs and Cohorts that doesn't require me taking a week off?
NPC creation is pretty quick and simple, honestly; just doing it with pen and paper, it only takes me maybe 15-20 minutes at absolute most to put together an NPC. And that's for a boss-tier NPC with lots of abilities and really trying to tune it for a particular purpose; simpler, lower-XP NPCs are *dramatically* faster to make.

That said, there is a handy online tool that can make it a bit easier, since it totals up XP and adjusts stats to TL for you.

Though I would advise applying templates manually, as it doesn't seem to stack qualities from those properly. Eg, applying the Dire template to an animal that already has Tough I just overwrites it to Tough II, rather than stacking up to Tough III.

Only mostly dead. They're a tiny company with few resources, and FC isn't their bread and butter line, so it's a bit low on the priority list for use of those limited resources. And they've openly admitted that Spellbound is way too big of a project for them and never should've been greenlit, but they're determined to stick it out to the end... However long that takes.
