Because soft reprints of various cards at appropriate price points increases the supply marginally while still being responsible, same idea with MM/EM.

When Duel Deck: LoTV vs Karn ft Goyf, Bob, Ravager, and Mox Opal comes out at $15 unlimited, thats a more apt comparison.

>>46510171

The reprint isn't out yet, and won't be for an unknown amount of time, but the company printing the game has shown repeatedly that they will tank the price of in demand cards. But they won't do it until the set the card is selling boosters for is long out of print.

Modern is literally the worst format ever wtf.

This is my first post since starting modern 6 months ago. I promised myself I wouldn't touch /tg/ until I've had at least 6 months experience and here I am. FUCK YOU, memers.

This format is fucking shit. Game over in T4/5 yeah go fuck yourself. Limited sealed has a genuine lottery experience, EDH has the long-haul game experience (best format ever senpai), Leg is for people with $$$, and those without? Just fucking go to standard. Honestly, move to Standard if that's it. Modern is dead. There is no card interaction, Kitchen Finks are retarded, and Affinity or any Tron deck is literally cancer.

I haven't lost to anyone recently to warrant this post, this is literally my first ever modern post. Fuck this format. It's unbelievably gay.

Reminder that both tron and eldrazi are alive and well thanks to the fact that wizards decided to ban eye of ugin instead of eldrazi temple. Reminder that this deck has a literal 95/5 matchup against control decks in favor of tron. Essentially. Reprints that combat scarcity while keeping prices stable are the best way moving forward, and has realistically been Wizard's approach.

If we end up with a "reprint premium set" once a year, and select reprints in things like Conspiracy and Commander, it really has the potential to stabilize the market, allowing cards to have value but keeping them available.

Markets like stable prices with hold incentives, not necessarily skyrocketing prices. Printing to satisfy demand at a reasonable level, while letting popularity and scarcity net values positive is the safest way to maintain the secondary market.

>Ruin Processor
Why?
>>
>>46511060
Just from experience mucking around with various turbofog and excessive draw strategies, I'd be inclined to cut thoughts of ruin and gaze, I'd think about dictate of kruphix and more control elements, this deck tremendously accelerates just about everything you might run into and being able to push through it in time to get lethal can be hard. I've found useful tools in far/away and swan song especially.
>>
>>46511971
Dude. Its a decklist being posted on /tg/ the week of a banlist announcement, at this point Im surprised it only had 60 cards and contains something of a win condition.
>>
>>46512044
The deck isn't actually playing black, Toil and Trouble is just for Trouble, the cheapest sudden impact in the game. I would probably play 4x that and cut sudden impact and gaze though. Swan song would be nice, but the basic strategy is that I get to draw lots of cheap burn spells, my opponent gets to draw lands and creatures and other stuff that kills slower than I do. I feel like control elements like Swan Song would just dilute the formula and slow me down. The curve ends at 4, so I could probably get away with 20 lands or less. Especially since I start drawing additional cards after 2 to 3 mana.

Tried this. O-Sow is fucking weak without Urborg to convert enemy fetches. There's no fucking point to ramping harder in a deck that already ramps hard.

>ruin processor
Jesus Christ. Just run SSG and Chalice with that colorless life gain land if you're that afraid of burn. It has the added bonus of fucking over Affinity and Infect.

It's better off just running TKS and RS as big dumb fucking beaters, and World Breaker + Endbringer slapping shit. Don't be cute, be efficient.

>conduit of ruin into newlamog
Without the ramping + searching capabilities into Eye of Ugin, you're hoping to draw into a conduit of ruin. RG Tron has Sylvan, Map and that new SoI land tutor. This? Mull down to get one, while fucking over your ability to make tron.

How does this deck plan to decks that stabilize early? RG Tron has pyroclasm. O-Stone to do O-Stone things. You build tron and then what? Pray to every god you know to draw into Conduit or Ulamog?

It's fun to theorycraft with, but in practice, it's not good.

Talk me out of playing 4x Chalice of the void in Tezzerator. It's great on 0 against affinity or living end, and sometimes lantern control, but better on 1. It beats storm, it beats Jeskai ascendancy, it's great against burn, it's good against infect, it's good against all kinds of zoo, it has really been good for me against delver, and has even been good for me against URW control, shutting off about a quarter of their spells between bolts paths and snares. Why shouldn't I run this card as a 4 of when I can discard it to thirst if I don't need it and play it for 0 and make a 5/5 with Tezz.

to be fair chalice is pro ass playing in tezzerator, the main reason why you probably wouldn't though is primarily because welding jar is so god damn good in tezzerator that having it auto countered kind of sucks shit. If you can get around that, then by all means, chalice the day away and proceed to shitstomp the meta by having that shit maindeck.
>>
>>46513075
Really, who needs Force of Will in Modern when you're powering this or other horseshit with Simian Spirit Guide out on T1.

I think it depends whether you want to be cute or good. I personally will always choose cute so I'm in favor of it.
>>
>>46513460
thats fair, i use jar primarily because artifact destruction is coming back with a vengeance and its always good to be able to protect your main stuff and not be thrown off guard. i've found over the many years i've played the more redundancy i have in a deck the better overall because it raises consistancy and makes it so if your board completely eats shit you can recover fairly quickly, overwhelming the opponent when hes pissed his trump card to win.

But really, why would you ever settle for less than the best deck?

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/new-orleans-shuffle/
>>
>>46511934
The problem I see with MTG prices right now is that Wizards has a bad habit of printing "marquee" cards every set. There are always 3-4 cards that are just a wee bit overpowered/under-costed. They use the cards to sell a set. The set printing ends, the cards dominate in standard, and then they rotate out and stay in modern.

Then wizards doesn't want to reprint it again in standard because it is "too powerful" and "was a mistake" and would be too dominate in standard, so they print a 'fixed' version, that is slightly less powerful.

The problem then becomes
1) The original card is still at the same supply, and with ever increasing demand the price will climb.
2) The slightly worse card just becomes original card 5-8 in a linear deck.

Take Goblin Guide for example. Wizards realized that was too powerful, so instead of reprinting it they printed monastery swiftspear, the 'fixed' version. So what happened was that GG moved up in price, and monastery swiftspear became GG 5-8, making linear burn more powerful.

Then you have the problem of a 'masters' set. If you have 24 boosters in a box with boosters costing 10 each, then you cannot put more than 240 dollars of card value in a box. If you do, players will simply buy the box, crack the packs, sell the cards, and repeat. If players "go infinite" like this the bottom will fall out of the market and prices will collapse. The response stores will have to this behavior would be to jack up the price of the booster packs to reflect the value inside, which wouldn't make Wizards any more money because they sell wholesale.

So naturally Wizards has to print "jank" cards and pack them in along any valuable eternal playable cards, because they want to avoid that scenario, but that also means that they cannot print more than a few value cards at a time, either in a commander deck or a duel deck or a masters set.

Its complicated economics, I am not surprised Wizards still hasn't figured out how to make Gofy a $40 card.
>>
>>46512715
Having been testing the deck for a while, the deck has enough eldrazi in it to consistently draw them even in the late game. Every time you play an eldrazi you generate card advantage guaranteed. EndBringer while seemingly nice, doesn't do anything when its first played meaning that any removal on it is a huge set back for you. Reality Smasher goes against what the rest of the deck tries to do; as the deck doesn't do anything to put pressure on the opponent until turn 3 at the earliest. Oblivion Sower synergizes well with the rest of the deck and can be used to steal your opponents manlands and even on turn three or four, provides more of an advantage than endbringer on average.
>>
>>46512838

Junk/d absolutely shreds Tezzerator and Ux "Control."

Do you really want virtually every threat in your deck to be Abrupt Decay targets, and the rest of the permanents to be Zealous/Pulse magnets?
>>
>>46513075
Yes, yes, please, -2 or -3 yourself on turn 1 for an Abrupt Decay target. Im sure that will shore up your matchup vs BGx
>>
>>46513864
>Then you have the problem of a 'masters' set
>So naturally Wizards has to print "jank" cards and pack them in along any valuable eternal playable cards

That isn't really a problem, its more of the nature of responsible printing. Wizards can't technically directly supply singles in limited quantities (outside of FTV sets), so having chaff to fill out a pack and balance the EV of a premium set isn't really a problem, it's more of a feature in the long run.

Small, responsible reprints are the best way to control costs, and prevent market panic from shifting costs too high for an optimal amount of players. I totally agree, the "jank" is absolutely worthless, but it also prevents the market from flooding out. Goyf is a mythic for a reason, along with most of the money in the MM sets.
>>
>>46513918
I don't agree with that statement. I have about a 50/50 match up with jund and junk with my tezzarator build. I run counters and the like, and if they can't answer my combo before I've made a turns worth of fliers I usually win the game. Also my combo is very redundant, and between spellskites and academy ruins it's just really not that hard a match up as my dismembers, sac cards and counters almost always can stall out until I can get the combo engine going. If they start packing 4 abrupt decay I might be more worried but as is I don't have too much problem getting my combo to stick, and when it does it puts me just way to far ahead after 2 turns of thopter dumping.
>>

>If they start packing 4 abrupt decay
BGx has been running 4 Decays since Twin was banned and aggro became dominant.

Your entire combo folds to a resolved Scooze backed up by a held Decay or Kommand. And thats preboard, before the Stonys and Katakis/Shatterstorms come in.

>2 turns of thopter dumping
What is Maelstrom Pulse. You can gain life all day, when Sword gets Scoozed the game is over. Practically every card in BGx's toolkit is purpose build to pick apart a different piece of Tezzerator.
>>
>>46514161
But seriously it's X-0 vs Tron, 50% for Grixis control matches, tends to beat Jund/Junk decks game 1, then the delver board turns their plan on its ear game two. Weak matchups are Eldrazi and Burn, but both are better games post-board. Affinity, on the other hand, affinity I scoop to.

Orly? Because Junk has been running 3-4 since January, and it's been going great.
Jund might only run 3, but it backs them up with Kommands, and can easily cut a Terminate for more.
Next you're going to tell me is that Inquisition is going to get cut for 4x Seizes to combat this new "high curve meta."

>plenty of kill spells for there 1 of or maybe 2 of scooze
Sure buddy, just keep a Dismember up for one of the 3 Scoozes I run, and sit there and watch as Goyf runs you over backed up by Bob and a curve topper.

If my meta really spams thopters, I might even cut my 1 of Finks just to extra screw it over, I mean half my deck and SB already shreds the combo on board, might as well have every topdeck ruin the plan.

Junk is gonna turn some memes into dreams this week.

No, having cards in hand by turn 4-5 vs BGx would require a hell of a curve. Not to mention Terminate is about the only thing that can reliably kill a threat in Grixis colours, and it's also conveniently what you need to deal with whatever beater I turn the corner with.

Yeah if you curve inquisition into scooze into lily it's hard to beat. But you don't always get that draw. Jund and Junk are not impossible to beat, fuck I watch mono red budget burn players beat them all the time. You're deck has answers, yes, that's what playing GBx is about, but you don't always have all the answers, and after playtesting about 100 matches against Jund, the match up is about even. Haven't played Junk yet, but I will this Friday, I assume it will be close though, who knows.

You need: Jace, the Merfolk Looter.

I didn't say it to him last time. Another point I'd like to make is that if you're running a control deck, you have to point out a lot more things about your meta and how dhit goes before we can give accurate suggestions.
>>
>>46515035
I'd put languish in for damnation. Languish will sometimes be one sided for you.

Unless the meta is like 30%+ jund it's a good call.

Languish also breaks thopter combo so it might be a good idea with those decks creeping in.

>>46515492
TiTi will go down unless it finds is way into a T1 deck (which I doubt, but possible). If it puts up results though, the price will go up a lot (remember Origin's Jace).

What is the one card you want in modern that wouldn't be absolutely broken?
Flametongue is still up there with one of my favorite cards and I doubt it would be too strong.
>>
>>46517486
I think nobody actually wants in a flagrant effortless value-card in Modern. It will be attractive to play but it's not something that people welcome. I don't think anybody is happy about playing with or against Siege Rhinos.

That being said, I want Cabal Therapy. The most flagrant of value.
>>
I just started playing modern again, small lgs, with modern event every other week. I played Living End, my record has been 4-0, 3-1, 3-1, 1-3. I've defiantly noticed more people playing grave hate.

You better of with junk then I suppose.
But even still it's a little expensive, but maybe manageable for you. Would imagine stuff like:
Loxodon smiter
Abrupt decay
Lingering souls
Thoughtseize
Siege rhino
Scavenging ooze
Maybe kitchen finks
Tasigur/Angler, I suppose tasigur as for modern
Path to exile

Which gets you pretty far without Liliana and Tarmo. Basically you just cut out on that packet and go more heavily invested into siege rhino/lingering souls that are pretty damn good on their own. Also imo white has a way better sideboard plan with stony silence, kor firewalker, rest in peace and such.

I guess jund has a little stronger mainboard with kolaghan command and terminate + bolt, but missing siege rhino/lingering souls is going to hurt the budget version.
>>
>>46517742
Not a bad plan considering half that would just be buying extras of stuff in my Doran Edh deck.

Second question. Considering building Bogles for fun. Horizon Canopy is 80 each. Would it be worth(as in expected holding value) to spurge and extra 20 each to buy the Expeditions version?
>>
>>46518005
personally I don't think horizon canopy is worth it, even if it's a little bit mandatory for the deck. It's just a little bit of extra edge on demented deck, that's basically baby scrap put together.

I feel like canopy is kind of card that gets hit hard monetarily if it's reprinted.
>>
>>46518069
That's why I'm considering the full art version, if I buy it. Even if horizon canopy is reprinted and hits less than 10, the expedition version isn't gonna go below 50(basing this of current temple garden). But that is $400 to put into a deck that is less than $400. Feels weird.
>>
>>46517268
That's not tue 4 turn rule, the 4 turn rule is that a deck is not allowed to win before turn 4 in modern. The reason it's dead is because twin was banned and under the 4 turn rule it is a completely fine deck.

I already asked in other thread, but it seems dead. I usualy play DnD, but recently two of my friends started to play Magic. They bought the Blessed vs. Cursed and Zendikar vs. Eldrazi duel decks. I wanna join them by buying my own intro pack. Which one would you recommend?
>>
>>46518520
see if you can find the most recent event deck
>>
>>46518520

Don't buy Intro Packs, they're terrible and cost way too much. You're better off buying something like a deckbuilder's toolkit or getting your friends to buy a bunch of boosters together with you and brewing some casual decks together.
>>
>>46518546
I found both, Battle for Zendikar and Dragons of Tarkir event packs in local store. The DoT is much cheaper tho.
>>
All right.

I want to go all in on this Tezzeret thopter foundry / sotm deck.

When will the initial hype die a bit? Next week? I only was able to sneak the thopter foundrys before the swords skyrocketed.

Tezzeret also jumped to like $40..

I'm hoping to pay $10/ea for 2 swords next week once everyone's tcgplayer orders come in and $25/ea per tezz

That's what I'm guessing they'll settle at or around
>>
>>46518520
I have few options in mind. Deckbuilder's toolkits are cheap way to make a basic set of cards to allow you to build somekind of deck. It rewards you of your deckbuilding skill, so There is something a little more special in it what intro packs lack.

Other than that, intro decks and toolkits are garbage. At least you get few boosters from toolkit.

I would more recommend duel decks. Older ones, if you can or the 2 of the most recent ones. If you can find a duel deck anthology for a reasonable price, that's a good package of inherently about as strong decks to play with. Treat it more as a boardgame rather than MtG collection.

Other than that, there isn't much else. Old premium decks are amazing, if you can find them, but I'm quite sure they are extinct. Just look up some casual decks and get a real player to look over it and give you some ideas. Then buy it as a singles from shop of your choice. You can get some universally amazing cards in magic with about 1$ each, if you know what you are looking for. That's where the good player comes in.

>>46517120

>>
>>46521200
There's literally no reason to play this over other free programs.
>>
>>46521635

No you don't. Nice try tho.
>>
>>46510295
Ah, reminds me of my sage of hours bolster deck. Why take an extra turn when you can take all of them?
>>
>>46521653

It has an actual player base and a matchmaking system. I mostly play on Cockatrice, but finding someone to play can be difficult and many of the people you play there are massive faggots.
>>
>>46521654
Yes, you do.

http://www.grammarerrors.com/punctuation/commas-in-direct-address/

I'm sorry that you didn't learn this in school.
>>
How do I beat Abzan CoCo as Affinity? My opponents always seem to have an answer in the first 4 turns.

>lol infinite life and no poison counters allowed
>stony silence turn 2 gg

Every game I need Galvanic Blast and Cranial Plating in my hand by turn 2 or else I lose. What else should I try?
>>
>>46511439
Here's your (You), now stop bitching.
>>
>>46521684
Except with Cockatrice you build any deck you want without going through any loops, and test it with other people, especially friends. Cockatrice and Xmage are great when it comes to play testing or just plain screwing around.
>>
>>46521712
idk, whipflare? also, quit bitching. you don't know how good you have it. I play infect and my only out is dismember in the sb or sticking a rancor on blighted agent before spellskite comes down.
>>
>>46521801
>play living meme
>scoop to infinite life
>viscera seer ruins muh board wipe
>only option is mull til I find a faerie macabre and hope I draw well
I hate company
>>
>>46512715
Reality Smasher isn't that good in a deck that doesn't care about the opponents life total. While I probably wouldn't run ruin processor main board, I can at least see the logic behind it. I would consider testing kozilek the great distortion in a deck like his as a one of as it effectively wins the game for 10 mana as opposed to 15 against control.
>>
>>46521712
Pack more removal in the main or side. If they have stony silence then they have it. Side in removal, whipflare, thoughtseizes, and hate cards like grafdigger's cage. It's an unfavorable matchup to be sure.
>>
>>46521428
There are 400-500 people in my server at any given time and the majority of games are modern and standard
>>
>>46521801
>my only out is dismember
Why aren't you running Twisted Image?
>>
>>46515129
Yeah I've been trying to get him and Liliana but noone has any for sale/trade around where I live.
Gifts would be interesting actually. It's a bug midrange deck based off Gerrard fabiano's list. It isn't the best deck in the format but it's my favourite colours and playing a blue attrition deck makes me happy
>>46515444
I'll give languish a shot. There's a lot of affinity, burn and merfolks locally but also a ton of tron, jund, and coco. There's a good representation but u/r decks too.
>>46520744
Honestly I love that there's a ton of goodstuff cards and making them play around just one goddamn shadow of doubt feels really really great.
>>
>>46511370
>FUCK YOU, memers
We warned u senpai, u gun get d memes
>>
>>46522116
If that's your meta don't run languish
>>
>>46522485
Sounds good, been thinking of tossing in a few vendettas.
>>
>>46522523
I should clarify. Because vendetta kills manlands which my deck struggles with

I just wanted to use Strionic Resonator for something since it seems pretty cool.
>>
>>46522614
Abrupt decay is heavily played in this format friend-o. If you go a cyclops route you should try kiln fiend deck
>>
when people say tron do they mean Urza lands or boosting a creature with artifacts
>>

Urza lands.
>>
Hey /modern/, when are the Khans of Takir prices going to fall? I've been waiting to scoop up some of the cards from the set, it is supposed to rotate out this week doesn't it? Yet all the prices seem to be holding steady. Will it be a slow drop, like over the course of several months?
>>
>>46522851
holding steady? Are you trying to get fetchlands? Those won't drop in price much more.

Why is everyone playing Crucible?
You've posted several games and I get it's a good card against you but I didn't think people ran it in the sides often
>>
>>46522106
>twisted image spellskite
>they still have infinite chump blockers and a Melira

I mean I'm still bringing twisted image in, but it doesn't help against having to deal them 20 through a bunch of creatures.
>>
>>46522928

Fetchlands, meme rhinos (which actually went UP in price...), Monastery Swiftspear, and just filling out my collection with some of the Khans. I mean I was expecting maybe the prices would drop back down to what they were last year in early 2015, when you could pick up a Windswept Heath for $7.
>>
>>46523069
Shits gonna drop after release and once people realize how much of an advantage you give your opponents.

Glad I sold mine for $9 beforehand.
>>
>>46523087
crucible is a solid 1-of in lists that want to go long recurring fetchlands to ensure you never miss a land drop or lists that play things like boom/bust, armageddon, wasteland, cycling lands, etc.

Why does UR Storm have to be so bad? I just cant believe I wasted $60 on Ascensions and Past in Flames. I could use this and Preordain to make the deck better.
>>
>>46523490
Just build Legacy Belcher, cheap besides the LEDs and they usually run 1 of Past in Flames in side for the games where opponent can't interact and you can just Tendrils.
>>
>>46523573
decks like this are just dumb, I don't know how anyone can recommend them
>>
>>46523490
How did you not know that Storm was Tier 3 at best?
>>
>>46514515
>>46514557
>Revoker
>Needle
>Discard
>4cmc PW
>5/5 citadel

yeah no, you are just stupid and have neither played against or with Tezzeret ever

you and that other guy should just shut the fuck up about decks you haven't played

Scooze can remove sword, yes, but Tezzeret wasn't a deck if it would fold to gy removal like you imply

same goes for Abrupt
>>
>>46523599
It wins. Not everyone plays blue and FoW is only in about 40% of openers, empty the warrens wins even that if they don't realize to cut off your rituals/can't do it because you have more excess guides etc.
>>
>>46523665
yes but I assume that most magic players actually want to play magic and decks like oops all spells or belcher don't do that
>>
>>46514557
Tezz doesn't give a shit when it's sending in 5/5 flyers or 5/5 indestructible while inevitably killing you with drain.

That's the biggest mistake people will do both playing Tezz and against Tezz. They'll focus too much on the thopter sword combo and when Tezz can end the game by himself
>>
>>46523702
Sequencing Belcher especially post-board is already more demanding than something like Burn for example, it's all a matter of degree.
>>
>>46523702
it's more of a novelty thing. also, some people just like winning.
>>
>>46523628
I knew it was bad. I just didnt know it was this bad. I just cant find any modern deck that interests me besides Burn. I am building legacy deck though.
>>
Is there a deck in modern that takes all the cards out of your hand and kills you because of it?
I just played some guy on xmage that used a rack I think it was called and I'm incredibly salty tbqh

Fuck that shit, how am I supposed to play against shit like that when I have no fucking cards to play with
>>
>>46523956
Yeah its called 8 rack and it's a shut deck and you're a fag for losing to it.
>>
>>46524002
How do I win when I have my early cards taken first and then the rest after that

Serious question
>>
>>46524031
You rush creatures out and respond to any thing that strips cards out of hand by playing instants in response.
>>
>>46524060
Not everyone plays burn
>>
>>46524060
and lose another card? You're bad.
>>46524031
you play only the cards you NEED to play and leave cards in your hand that you don't need to discard.

I have around 120 hours in M15, and even more in M14.
The fact that they made the game F2P ruined a lot for me. I used to be able to grind the themed story missions and play versus my own decks controlled by the AI to unlock new cards and test decks.
I dislike playing online without having access to all the cards, so I'm stuck playing against bullshit computer decks and even then there is a weekly gold limit.

Ohh, and let's not forget that BFZ is a shit format and made draw-go control literally unplayable in standard because of New Ula / Kozi.

Honestly, just use XMage / Cockatrice for PvP / drafting and Forge for PvE / casual messing around.
>>
>>46523914
which legacy deck. storm is a real deck I'm that format. It's actually 2 real decks and a ton of other less good ones too.
>>
>>46523739
>4 cmc 3 loyalty planeswalker that can't defend himself
>Ending the game at all, let alone by himself in aggro_lightingbolt.format
Sure familia, I bet you think JtMS would be a "game ender" in Modern too.

>Scooze can remove sword, yes, but Tezzeret wasn't a deck if it would fold to gy removal like you imply
>same goes for Abrupt
Thopter Depths was never a deck at a time when Scooze, Decay, and most of Modern's answers and hate existed.
Affinity can barely scrape out solid winrate with SBs packed with artifact rape, but now you're gonna tell me that Sword/Foundry and Tezzeret animating lands is somehow faster?
>>
>>46524090
Burn takes more thought than that anon
>>
What are bogles' worst matchups? It does really well at my FNM when I've played it, about as well as Soul Sisters.

Tron/Affinity maybe? I can usually crash through their defenses, but not many people play tron at my store.
>>
>>46524585
Probably Tron yeah, you fold to a single O-Stone/Ugin. Scapeshift if they play sweepers and combo you out on turn 5-6.
>>
>>46524031
You either have to zerg them down or try to play around the Rack, keep cards in hand, etc..

Its a pretty annoying deck to play against but its like Tier 3 at best
