In one of Gav's books (Kill Team, IIRC) Ork Mercs were negotiating with the Tau. IIRC, The Orks got fed up and left.

Orks don't give a damn about any of that. They don't fear death and don't care much for pain, so neither their own bosses nor anyone else can oppress or terrorize them. They were made for endless war, and the galaxy accomodates them.

Do you have any idea how orks work? Apart from fungus people? Orks have extensive arrays of entertainment, from goff rockers, rokkit-bike races, squig-baiting, betting on umies doing the burny dance or just the classic "load up on fungus ale and then brawl untill enough teeth are on the floor to buy another round."

Don't go out at dawn or the hellions will drag you off for fun, don't go out at day or a noble nay find you displeasing, don't go out at dusk or the homonculi will find you entertaining, don't go out at night or the wyches will get you.

It's actually the Chaos campaign outro but yeah. The key thing about the Guardsman in question is that he was a latent psyker, untrained and unprotected. Also, the cinematic itself (though those aren't always 100% reliable) showed a bunch of cultists performing a ritual to open the rift that the Alpha Legion appeared from, so it's possible he started or joined a Chaos cult too.

The idea that one unguarded soul is all it takes is repeated in GW lore - a specific example being the Gheistos Cataclysm in the 5th edition rulebook (referenced briefly in 6th edition Codex: Chaos Daemons).
