This is one of my favorite fluff pieces. This encompasses the grimdarkness of the 40K universe.. The whole laughing thirsting gods angle with the uncaring nature of the universe. In his dying moments the guardsman understood how insignificant he is and how no one will remember his passing except this malevolent godling, and already the memory is fading.

They tried to do the right and honourable thing and stuck by their mates, betrayed and seeking redemption they set of on crusade right into the jaws of death. One of my favorite pieces of fluff is that story about Deathleaper performing psychological warfare on a guy, constantly killing all of his body guards but leaving him alive. It just shows how much smarter the bugs are than everyone thinks.

Imperius the Solar Priest tried to prevent the destiny that Abaddon was trying to engineer. For his effort he was brutally murdered by Lehor and Lyras. Gyre said that the Solar Priest essence withdrew but it will come back again and next time it will come back with fire and vengeance. Since all of them are alive up to 999 41K, we can assume that they killed him again.

Khayon took the ashes of Imperius, blood of Horus's clone, shards of Worldbreaker, crystal shards from crystallized psychic echo of Sanguinius death, and fragment of Sanguinius sword to a very skilled Thousand Sons weapon crafter called "Wonder Maker. From all of that stuff he created a really potent weapon.

Khayon is the only one who used his fragment well. Lyras made a facemask. Lehor used the fragment to create teeth for his chainsword that he would later lose in a swamp.

I only came across it recently, but I love the Plague of Unbelief

I can see why it was dropped from the Witchhunters codex since it's more of an ecclisarchy thing than sister-specific.
That goes for 60% of the 2nd edition Sisters codex. Really great stuff, but not really relevant to the army as it stands today.

I really like the Vraks books too, but that's mostly because of the attention they paid to outlining the flow of battle and paid attention to logistics and stuff like that.

I always really liked the ambiguous loyalty of the Dark Angels. The idea the Lion was buttmad and intentionally held off reinforcing Terra because he wanted to play both sides is pretty cool and gives even more personality to the chapter.

It's a shame GW confirmed the Dark Angels actually are Loyal with a capital L. I guess they just hate it when they realize they have something interesting.

Old Chaos lore, focused on the Nine Legions. Back when Chaos Marines ware described as the ancient nightmare, demons of forgotten times bringing hell to the domains of mankind. That's how I do them still on the tabletop, as I am part of the rare breed of fluff-list users.

In the Long War, The Imperium are the guys choking on their own dead while the traitors have grown fat and powerful from all plunder and glory.

I see in the Ragnar Blackmane novel that the Imperials are saying that the surface is lost. I reported it as such and added things from other sources.

There are some pockets of resistence on Cadia but (see picture related) the world is already dead.

The Crimson Slaughter, who are newbies in the Eye, pretty much kicked the asses of all the Legion Marines forces they encountered and proved their dominance so much that Abaddon was impressed with them and recruited them into his Crusade.

So I find the idea of 10K veterans being precious and irreplaceable elite forces to be silly when renegade newbies are their match and even superior like cases with the Crimson Slaughter and the Red Corsairs

Also I love how in the older codexs it said that there are as many patterns of imperial equipment as stars in the sky. I like this because it lets me convert and kitbash whatever I want which pisses off a friend of mine, that is a iron hands player and an extreme lover of the mechanicus and the Mars pattern everything.

To be honest I think Armageddon Steel legion can fit most fighting forces of ww2 in the European front. The tales of desperate sieges in ruined cities are reminiscent of the soviets. During the 2nd war of Armageddon they pulled a France when they thought the Orks couldn't pass through the thick jungles. They just take after the Germans the most when you look at their looks and emphasis on armor. Granted that there's the Valhallan Ice warriors who are clearly ww2 soviets. There's also the Tallarn Desert raiders who have similarities to both sides in the North Africa campaign.

Personally I like Dark Eldar lore the best. I find everything about them appealing, from the kabals, covens and cults to their history, their armor and weaponry and their lifestyle.

But beyond that I've always liked the aspects of 40K that aren't represented on the table directly. In many of the Black Library books I've read there's a good deal of content in them that isn't directly represented by any official GW/FW model, and that's good. There's a vast supply of interesting things in 40K lore that don't typically see the light of day outside of some obscure books.

That's one of my favorite things about the old art too. In a good amount of old art pieces the characters shown weren't ones GW directly supplied you with, but they inspired you to create your own or convert to make that art come to life.

Honestly the vastness of 40K, the diversity of the factions all coming together to make one setting and the huge amount of potential they all have is my favorite part of 40K. Also, the mystery factor. The things that are written about but never shown, like pic related. The sense of dread that these things exist. I also like when daemons are written about correctly, gnawing and tearing at the fabric of reality and relentless in their desire to consume and destroy everything. The flowery descriptions of daemons (which sometimes are portrayed as completely different than any of the daemons with actual models) are always fun reads in the books.

The whole point of Cadia, what makes it strategically significant, is that the pylons create a corridor of stability making it safe to enter and leave the eye of terror. Destroy the pylons and there's no stable route out of the eye for Abby's reinforcements.

And why would the eye of terror expand when even other warp rifts don't? Slaanesh isn't exactly the strongest or oldest chaos god. The eye of terror has been around since the fall of the Eldar, why would it grow so large just because they destroyed some pylons? Not to mention the Emperor holds it back as well due to him being anathema to chaos.

Do these fluff writers even think of this shit before making up ideas like this? Christ.
