From what I've seen the cyoa authors have very little to do with thread momentum, and having more to do with dedicated enough fans willing to start the generals 24/7, setting up the IRC channels and get the ball rolling with RP system recreation and being the GM.

There are very few people willing to devote that much energy and time into something like a cyoa. In most cases, its done by people that aren't /cyoag/ regulars.

Conduit and stardust died off as the authors left the threads and also applied directly to Quiet cyoa threads as well. With no Quietanon being there to disclose vague symbolical answers, the thread lost steam.

This also applied to a lesser extent to Monster Hunter and battlemage cyoa. Monster Hunter threads died due to Bliss meddling way too much with the 'official" interpretations of the cyoa and lore discussion and no one willing to step up with being the GM or setting up any RP. Battlemage ended in a similar manner, no one wanted to GM and Scientist really took too long with the battlemage update, which still hasn't been updated yet. And didn't really explain how the setting or detritus worked.

The current towergirl threads we have is a reboot done by a group of people completely unrelated to the original artist and his fans. They just picked up one day and wanted to continue the project in their own direction.

CYOA is a medium for presentation, like- film is a static medium that acts through presentation and a video game requires player interaction, CYOA is its own form of medium, however the choice and interpritation of those choices is how the medium functions, as is its brevaity, before it blends into something more table-top focused which relies upon 'players' imagination and interaction with DM and player.

But that is just my interpretation of it.

The great plains are the breadbasket of the world. I have great natural resources, especially food, and a pretty good overall location without needing to change anything

The downside is I have extremely hostile neighbors with Aztec wannabes to the south. While they are definitely a danger, they are up against modern tech and magic both without access to either. I'd like to get an upgraded citadel, which would pretty much eliminate any direct threat since they have no flying capability of their own, but at 5 points it's just too expensive.

The race change is an odd choice, but it hits all the important details. Aside from being fetish fuel, it makes a diplomatic victory easier and even dramatically improves lifespans. Asari "win" by commingling with a population while still breeding true. High charisma helps smooth relations and high intelligence is just a must for a tech-based race, plus it probably feeds the psionic powers. Ultimately we should be able to reverse engineer the tech and use it with a more portable power source.

The Realms aren't really that attractive to merge flavor-wise, but they're efficient purchases if you want the skills anyway. Most of the setting stuff I want is in enhancements.

Cyberpunk is a selectable enhancement, but there are no options to be good with tech or anything. I can't even be a space pirate.

Best pics I've seen in a while. Great text, layout, etc.

The points costs seem weak. And where are the costs on skills? It's like the points were tacked on at the end kind of as an afterthought. A few minor grammar mistakes, but way better that 90% of CYOAs. And a rare wit that balances humor, wish fulfillment, and that illusion of tradeoffs.

I'll give it a 10/10 despite the minor flaws.

Worth mentioning that the AAs are based on things like hard drive searches, so there's no point in arguing "but I'm not really a furry" if there's furry porn on there.

Magical realm is powerful. Doubly so if I can inflict fetishes on myself as "someone who willingly enters the room". After all, almost half of all fetishes are receiving-end anyway. As long as I stay in my room it makes for an absolute defense, as the edgelords and crazys can't hurt me while subject to my magical realm.

Creation: Water + Heat Shield allows me to make objects of unmelting ice that are not cold to the touch. Enchanting allows objects to retain heat shield permanently. Transform and heal are requisite personal powers, and they along with flight are also great choices for enchanting.

In the most recent versions, backgrounds do nothing, enlightenment costs are about 50% higher, and owners give around 30% fewer points. Net result is that I need half again as many points as I did before, and I only have about 1/3rd as many to work with.

Sunless Seas edge's out Spire for me.
I like how spire is independent and views you as an equal, but I like some dependency in a woman too.

Sunless Seas is bossy and seems to be lovingly dominant which is cute, and she has a way to cheat death, which is a pretty important attribute for a long term relationship when adventuring is common place and dying is pretty small of a deal.

Gesmene would be nice, but I've dealt with druggies, and even the nicest ones can be a bit hard to deal with just because they always seem, even when sober, to be a bit slow on the uptake. Also for the life of me I don't understand the powers of that world.

Malsanis has really specific powers, which doesn't seem so great. I might not just understand her world though.

Badlands is evil, and sure specialized weapons are incredibly useful, but she can't carry 1000 bullets on her easily, as well as reload them in quick time, plus just summoning a RPG works wonders I would assume.

Alright. I'm viewing the world as a big RPG where I have a bunch of quests I can start in any order. Paradise perverted is probably one I shouldn't let go on for too long. It might be entertaining for a bit with people growing multiple breasts and other such fetishes, but I'm not really a fan of futa and am gonna have to draw the line there.
For massive monsters, it says reverse the effects, but maybe I can just reverse the rampaging berserking parts.

And then we come to Taleri. She's sort of my end game. I'd rescue her pretty early, and get to working on her quest throughout the game. With magical enhancement, she's bound to be using spells even more often. However, I'm not actually going to completely fix her problem. In fact, I'm using my prince of thieves to sabotage her attempts unknowingly. I will however help create a potion that will shrink her breasts back down to a normalish size, but they can still grow. With my flesh magic and Scholarly background, I'll figure out what spell of hers went awry and use it on all the women in the realm. I can then mass produce my breast shrinking potion and sell it to magic users for a huge profit, but huge breasts will be very common.

Everything else is just a bonus.

In Malsanis there's a perk that's just any type of surgery.
Compare this to canon worlds where a power might be something like eyebeams, flight or binding a specific kind of djinn and all the applications came from cleverly combining them.
I saw the Rorch WIP though and that's all your complaints taken up to eleven. There's specific perks for selling certain categories of things.

I get the feeling that it's supposed to be a setting for the conduit market CYOA by focusing on trains and commerce but it tries pretty hard to suck the mysticism out of the markets. I made myself Bound to my word and Benevolent, also Inspiring, Blessed and temporary leader. The theme of my magical realm is Utopian Omnibenevolent. There are sorcerers, superheroes, Gods, super IAs and so on. All have had their ontological nature woven with good intentions and an inability to hurt others. Everyone is immortal, including myself and anyone I deem my friend. Fantasy races invading the modern world is self defeating if the modern world is fiated to not be modern anymore. The dragon CYOA is definitely about pitting jets versus dragons, that's the most straightforward way to do it, so it's not just for it being 'still you'. It's for a valid reason.
A world in which dragons have always existed would have vastly different technology so you'd have to break immersion something fierce to have everything the same as on earth. There's a reason why 'monsters invade' is a trope, it works.

The hex is pretty good - nice weather, preexisting infrastructure and art, and far from any active enemies.
Wisdom (common sense, ability to learn, etc.) is the hardest stat to enhance or replace with computers, it helps civilizations keep running day-to-day, and the Fallout stat system is horseshit for anything outside its game.
The Transformations are very in-depth, but I'll just say that if I can get a Preset made out of it I'll buy additional stat boosts (+1 CHA, +1 INT), Strange New Life (shapeshift-intoable slimes), and even more Transformations (the obvious stuff - lifespan, faster shifting, yadda yadda), in that order; and come back to it later.
The Monolith's very strangely formatted; it doesn't say the purchases are cumulative, but the point values imply that they are. Also, clarification on the powers it has each level would be nice. As it stands, I'm assuming the three point option lets me transform my citizens (and myself) into any form possible within the species (which just so happens to include about anything with DNA, including other alternative humans), and includes the lower cost powers to 'retcon' minor purchases into other ones with the same value, make force fields around my house, and display statuses.
The Crystal Ball's just cheap and might be useful for parleying with multiple low- or non-tech hexes at once.

First, the shape shifting isn't what you think. It doesn't let you completely turn into someone else in a few seconds. It's closer to directible natural regeneration - changing eye color might only take a few minutes, but a full sex change is days or weeks on the low end, and significant alterations to bone structure need a month or two. This affects everything above the cellular level, so all organs are fully functional, but aging still happens up until your cells fall apart.
Of course, sticking to human forms is no fun, so they can also take DNA from another species and copy instincts, organs, and such from it. This follows the basic laws of biology, so not only would forming functional cat ears necessitate several other physioligical changes, but replacing vital organs requires either making a backup beforehand or staying on life support the whole time.
A sense for your own internal layout and condition, even if you can't sense every cell individually, is essential for shapeshifting so you can troubleshoot and fix physiological problems before you die of brain hemmorhage or something.
Soulforge is expensive, creepy, and doesn't scale too well, so everybody of this particular species can convert others. It doesn't affect the mind (besides the stat boosts and usually subtle Transformations), and each conversion must fall in two of the categories of [Willing, includes large blood transfusion, takes a long time]. When freshly converted, someone's effectively shapeshifted into the form they had before until they decide to change it.
Finally, both mental changes were mostly picked to help make diplomacy easier and spend three points - Wit helps my citizens think on their feet and react in ways that aren't 'fight or flight', while Chill primarily removes the panic response. It keeps fear and adrenaline and all that good stuff, but helps them maintain composure despite it.

Really, I think that the imbalance in the options is part of the test - seeing if you could pick out the gussied-up trap options.
For instance, a Mercator projection is skewed enough that the equatorial hexes are actually quite a bit larger than the polar ones, and anything besides High Tech is pointless - you could defend your hex just as well by buying Sufficiently Advanced Technology and having magical powers as well as guns, and keeping indoor plumbing, internet, medical supplies, and other modern conveniences.
The minions are basically only good as a tactical strike force, and even then, people could be trained (or just Transformed) almost as well for a much lower point value.

Maybe add some minor personal benefits to the realms and flavors? Subterranean could make your family even richer than normal through deep gold mines or lost world could let you make yourself into a swole Conan type of prince. Realms could work the same way instead of just forcing you to take lists of skills. Or at least stop the lists from overlapping, because if I want Arabian, Medieval, Nordic, and Roman realms I have to waste points on essentially "buying" Melee Combat four times.

Not really sure how i can do that unless I divorce skills from realm flavors entirely and that was kind of the point for those who only buy a single realm. You basically get 3 skills for free with 1 realm.

Are you sure you want to have a fuckload of customizable weapons and armor? 'Cos you're going to have to stat every single piece. You'll also have to explain what exactly the stats (not just the weapons/armor stuff, but also the main stats you choose at the start) signify. Will probably need to stat the beasts as well.

Overall, the starting equipment/bonuses don't seem that enticing, and there doesn't seem to be any particular indication of being able to get more or better stuff down the line.

Of course. Makes it easier to make a build if instead of having to place everything manually on a grid, you can just say "the dungeon has these features".
