Actually Chaos. Welp. We can make amendments now that we've done all the rolls.

>Desert death world
>Tribal siege infantry
>Shock and awe tactics
>Accepting and adherent to the Greater Good
>Actively distrusted by the Tau leadership
>Carry blessed wargear or are augmented somehow
>We fight for the homeworld
>We are used as part of the Mont'ka school of thought, in a combined arms cadre
>Other auxiliaries in service to this cadre include the Tarellians and the Galg
>We have a loathing of Chaos

So. What do we make of it?
>>
>>46397553

>Siege
Wooden siege towers and ballistas?

>>46397553
Seems like some Mad Max shit to me. I like it.
>>

>>
>>46397771
>Mad Max shit
Cool idea. Planet may have been Civilised or higher before the Tau came, and whilst the leadership may have had it together enough to surrender, the rest of the planet's population centres had been bombed to shit.
>>
>>46397979
Explains why they can handle sieges whilst still being a tribal culture. Maybe we get something like Warboys with siege cannons on HGVs, directed by an Ethereal Immortan Joe?
>>
>>46397979
>>46398079
Ooh, I like it. Techno savages are always fun.

So why are they mistrusted whilst being adherent?
>>
>>46398305
Could be too violently fanatical to be tasteful to the Tau sensibility. Brings to mind too much of the Ork mindset, perhaps, rather than the measured asceticism the Ethereals prefer to cultivate.
>>
>>46397553
>>46397771
>>46398079

How's this for a concept?

>Maximus IV was originally colonised in M32 by the Imperium to exploit the vast deposits of Promethium deep within her crust. To survive the blistering heat of the trinary star system, colonists lived inside sealed arcologies built around the Promethium fountainheads to preserve the almost entirely imported water supply and resist the scathing sandstorms. Like miniature Hives, many citizens came to ignore or even outright refute the existence of the outside world.

>When the Empire came, the Planetary Governor chose to resist, only to have each arcology destroyed in turn, until only his seat of office remained. Even then, it took a week of constant bombardment to convince the Governor to finally agree to the terms of surrender.

>By the end of the five-year campaign, the citizens of Maximus IV had experienced an immense culture shock. Many citizens had taken to seeing the Tau as Angels of Creation, burning away the old, confining world of the Imperium and the arcologies and granting them a new, vast world of fresh air, open horizons and freedom. This faith was further reinforced by the delivery of Tau produced water condensers, which become revered as shrines to their new gods.
>>
>>46398719
I like it, sounds good.

Why do they hate chaos? Were there a few well-towns which fell, and were taken back in a siege campaign?

What's the blessed wargear and why is it tolerated?
>>
>>46398887
2 secs, writing
>>
Could you guys bump/add some stuff for the Vasenica Sector thread? (Guess this is what this thread is for.) Just so it doesn't die off just yet
>>
>>46398719

>Several condensers were lost as collateral damage before the Empire intervened. The new, savage way of life the Maximans had adopted was too brutal and too reminiscent of the Orks the Tau so loathed. In spite of fervent loyalty to the Tau, it was by Ethereal decree that conflict around the ‘shrines’ was to be forbidden.

>Instead, the Ethereals invited all Maximans who wished to prove their devotion to bring any arms they possess and board the waiting expeditionary fleet, to join their gods among the stars. Needless to say, few warlords declined.

>Once aboard, the Earth Caste in attendance took to replacing the cruder artillery weapons with more sophisticated Railguns and Ion Cannons. The Maximans saw such a gift as the most holy of blessings, with the gunners and drivers of such vehicles being revered as living saints.

>Soon after, the Maximans were deployed to quell a Gue’vesa world that had since become noncompliant. To defy the divine Tau was an unthinkable act, and the Maximans needed little convincing to bring their heaviest weapons to bear against the defences of the unbelievers.
>>
>>46399157
>Tearing through the ruined cities and fortresses, the Maximans found many icons and symbols that churned their stomachs and burned their eyes. Whilst an Inquisitor would know these as the icons of Chaos, the Maximans only knew them to be the sigils of the enemies of their divine masters. By the conclusion of the campaign, nearly every fighting Maximan had sworn a blood oath to destroy any who carried these icons with no mercy.
>>
>>46399218
>To the Ethereals, the tale of Maximus IV was a resounding victory. Another world had been brought into the fold of the Greater Good, and whilst the original populace could never be trusted to truly join the Empire, a periodic deployment of Maximan tribes to the most stubborn battlefields ensured a steady rate of depopulation to allow peaceful Tau settlers to establish a foothold on the world.

Well, I think I've covered all bases. What do you Anons think?
>>
>>46397553
>>46398719
This is good, explains how Siege Warfare and Shock and Awe were the specialities of the regiment.

It makes sense that the world hasn't been under the sway of the Tau very long, hence the distrust, but the cultural influence is rapidly swaying the populace. Anther generation or two and the Tau should have a fairly loyal vassal.

>Comprised of the Planetary Governors personal guard and warriors of the final arcology to fall, the Maxim 1st Gue'vesa Cadre was the only intact fighting force after the Governor's capitulation. These were the last die-hard defenders of Wisthold, some companies continuing the fighting several days past the edict to surrender. Normally such a force would be disbanded in the ensuing occupation, humans rarely make reliable allies until several generations of cultural assimilation.

>However, it has been a dark time for the Tau Empire of late. The ravenous Hive Fleets scouring worlds to the Galactic North, not one but two fresh Ork Waaagh!'s and the ponderous but nigh unstoppable march of the Imperium, the Tau Empire finds itself surrounded on all sides. In these dire times no fighting force could be spared. Besides it was deemed likely that that the Maxim 1st would only be an destabilising presence, armed or not.

> There are some places in the galaxy that the Tau tread lightly. Black Ryan's Reach, The Fortress of Faces, The Lair of Xchuti'gil... Daemon Worlds and other places of malign power. Places that are, if not ignored then... circumvented where possible. The concept of Chaos is simply not registered by the Tau, though there are some Ethereal's that suspect this force's malign influence could pose a threat every bit as lethal as the claws of the Tyranid. Reluctant to send professional Tau Cadre's to fight foes that may corrupt them with their very influence, the Tau often leave these threats to be dealt with rather more unconventional forces not heavily integrated into the Tau fighting force as a whole.

>>46399328
Looks really good, covered everything that I can think of.
One thing is wondering why these savages would be trusted with ultra high-tech weaponry, mind. Just thinking that as far as I was aware, it's somewhat rare for Gue'Vesa to carry pulse weapons.
>>
>>46399474
Original Maximus IV Anon here.

I like the direction you're thinking. Maybe we could combine the two, with the more disciplined Governor's guard acting as officers to the more feral tribesmen?
>>
>>46399529
I was thinking that their fanaticism left the Ethereals fairly certain that they would never be turned against them. It would also only be for the (relatively few) siege weapons; the average Maximan would still fight with a crude slug thrower or a bludgeoning weapon. The investment into a form of warfare the Tau do not excel at would also be a worthwhile reason to provide such a form of support.
>>
oops, I missed a bit between >>46398719
and >>46399157

>As these ‘shrines’ became contested as strategic resources, the Maximans took to salvaging the many defensive weapons from the arcologies and mounting them to the various heavy industrial vehicles used for promethium mining.

Everyone is saying mad Max but why not Fremen from the dune books. We learned seige warfare from crossing endless dunes to assault the stone fortresses/mountains of other tribes.

>>46399943
could do, that archetype would tick a lot of boxes. how do you make shock and awe Fremen though?
