Song of Swords is a realistic fantasy tabletop RPG that draws inspiration from historical fechtbuchs, weapons and armor. Its combat system is fast and it can be used for both fantasy and historical/mundane settings.

Call of the Void is a pulpy sci-fi tabletop RPG about fighting space-nazis and hunting giant whales with harpoons made out of the moon. Its combat system is more modern, based in the early 20th century, but can probably handle combat up to the present day.

The thing is, Builder is on the cusp of releasing what we finally need to do fechts in their system. We'll be able to see the competition SoS is up against. Unfortunately it seems we have to wait until Thursday to get it.
They are to release the wound tables, damage formula, weapon stats, and armor stats. You can rig it up to work with what they've released so far, but soon we'll be able to do actual fechts in their system.

To boost your attack once you know how many dice he spend on defense? If you have reasonable chance to beat him, use Feint. Otherwise keep your dice for the next exchange.

You'd have to be adding in a large amount of dice then. Since Base TN is 6 for everyone to begin with, you won't be able to make the odds favor you heavily. You'd have to trick him with a low-die attack and then Feint most of your pool into it. Like we used to do in the old Riddle days. Besides, if he has a spear and threw white while you have a longsword and threw red, he has +4 CP for reach, so he can afford to invest more in defense against your first attack.

Also, in case it's not clear, range bonuses only take effect during the Refresh, and there are no range bonuses in a grapple.

Not in Builder you can't. You can only Feint from a Swing or Thrust, into a basic offensive maneuver. Beat is an advanced offensive maneuver.

That's the thing. They don't have ATNs or DTNs. Everything's done with your Base TN in Builder, which is normally 6. They mention pikes and other longer-than-EL polearms having disadvantage in a duel on page 104, so that leads me to think EL and shorter spears won't be at a disadvantage in defense. We don't know for certain until they release weapon stats, which according to a developer today is coming "soon."
We also know that shields defend at a Fixed TN, but don't know what those TNs might be.

"Advantage" and "disadvantage" are game terms in BoB.

I think Pyromancy might involve burning arc for effects, as to what those effects are I couldn't tell you.
Sorcery involves drawing magic from the warren you're in to produce physical effects like force on an object, we actually got a .pdf with some samples I think.
Thaumaturgy is a mystery to me, I know it's about otherworldly entities turning you/your enemies into puddles of molten lead but that's about it.

A female ogre will still be incredibly strong, but much weaker than a male.

Now we have our sub-attributes.
The average roll results in 100. A perfectly average member of our race would have 100 in each sub-attribute.
The most important sub-attributes for combat are Hand-Eye Coordination, Agility, and Strength. We've actually rolled quite well here! But if you're unsatisfied with any of the results, you can reroll them.

We get up to 4 rerolls. The reroll uses a different dice loadout that results in an average roll of 135 instead of 100. But beware! Each reroll confers one (1) random mental illness. You can get a stronger body in exchange for a less stable mind!

Yes, our Bodily Attractiveness is 1. This confers a -99 modifier to all of our 3d10 rolls which use Bodily Attractiveness. I suspect this is because in an older version of FATAL (which this generator was made for), ogres had a much worse penalty to bodily attractiveness. But the dice never lie, and so you've given this ogre narratophilia for nothing.

The generator may be done helping us but we're not finished yet. Next is a part I need YOUR help with. We need to give our ogre some skills! Besides his sub-attributes, the skills are what the ogre will actually use to fight with. It includes things such as Wrestling, Brawling, and weapon usage.

In FATAL, you roll a die for each year your character has been alive, spend the points from that roll according to how your character spent that year of their lives, and proceed to the next year. Graciously however, Byron Hall suggests an alternative method if our character is over 30 years old. We may roll all our skill points rolls as a lump sum, and distribute it realistically. Our ogre is 79 years old, so we have a lot to do!

Hand-in-hand with skills are our occupation! As an ogre we have a very small list of valid occupations, which are listed here. >>46365129

I'm buying my equipment right now, and while I've got a pack animal with a cart full of goods, I need to actually have some armor, because bandits exist but are officially denied as existing by the government.
So obvious armor, while not always illegal per se, can still get me beaten or executed, because japan.

So, good folks of stabbing dicks, how can I armor myself in a way that both isn't obvious and isn't useless?
I'm already planning on sewing mail into a cloth vest/shirt and into a scarf, but that leaves my limbs woefully exposed. I think I could also swing an old jingasa without being suspicious, but that again leaves my face and lower head completely exposed.

look at the design for a coat of plates/brigandine, those should be pretty easily disguised as long as you don't take it off around anyone. Still only covers the torso though.

maybe brigandine + jack chains, worn over a linen shirt and under a jacket/robe? Should minimize bulk/clanking and give some measure of protection for the limbs

Armor works. And it works well. A +3c hit still becomes +3 damage, it just gets turned into bludgeoning. Based on the wound tables you will still fracture bones and inflict knockdown if you're dealing level 3 bludgeoning wounds.

Comparing damage tables, it looks like they have three things to juggle - TN shifts, Impact, and the actual cookie effects. As a trend, I notice cutting damage seems to be the worst overall (TN shift at every level, high impact, and higher blood loss). Since cutting damage is the least effective against armor, this is a nice touch, as it means against a lightly or unarmored target a cutting weapon is the most likely to end a fight.

Piercing weapons have the same base TN shift progression as cutting, but are lower impact. This seems to track to what Easton has said about piercing weapons being as or more lethal than the cut, but not necessarily as immediately as incapacitating.

Blunt weapons have the same impact as cutting weapons, but a lower TN progression.

Their forums are already discussing eratta. Apparently at least one of the authors has been going through some family health issues and hasn't had a lot of time to work on the game. Probably why this was dropped on the forums instead of made an official update release. Expect corrections/clarifications to come.

It looks like they have less impact than the other types of wounds, but this might be a balance in the way damage works.

Cutting is the best against lightly or unarmed opponents across the board. If the other guy is in clothing, leather, or a gambeson, cutting wounds are absolutely brutal... but they rapidly become useless against anything in metal.

Blunt weapons are the ones that deal with armor the best, but they are arguably do the least overall damage - Impact is the same, but the TN shift is less, and short of caving in someone's skull or rib cage, the wound is survivable.

Piercing weapons fall into a spot between the two. They are as lethal as cuts against unarmored opponents, and while there is no cutting weapon that gets around armor, there are piercing weapons that can get through maille and even plate. Thrust-based piercing weapons (so the majority of piercing weapons) can also use precise thrust to target gaps in armor, so in every way they are better at dealing with armored opponents than unarmored opponents.

It looks like piercing is the compromise damage. If they did as much impact as the other two, why would I ever want a cutting weapon?

This kinda makes sense, now that I think about it. You can suffer a fatal thrust and not be taken out of commission. We have accounts of rapier duels where the "winner" will die minutes or hours later for just such a reason.. whereas cutting wounds are more liable to end the fight in a spectacularly messy fashion.

Well, cutting damage is far more effective against limbs and arms in particular which are often closer to the enemy and can be easily damaged with a cut. Piercing damage is less dangerous to limbs but can damage internal organs and aorta more easily, carrying high risk of infection and fatal bleeding. Bloodloss from severed aorta will kill you much faster than chopped off arm and it's very difficult to stop.
