Why do we need so many of these? These threads devolve into shit faster then anything else on this board. People post lists that no-one cares about, sperg out over their favourite primarch/legion and fight over them, turning the Horus Heresy into a general his killed any good discussion about it. Hell, no-one has said a single word about the new HH Novel, Eye of Terra, instead sprouting the same unfunny shit and ignoring that there's actually a fucking story out furthering the whole fucking setting.

This disgusts me.

So an extremely powerful psyker champion of the Sons of Horus who likes to turn into a suit of flaming terminator armour and hack the enemy apart. Neat.

Also probably should just ditch chart number 10, it takes up a tone of space and is made redundant by chart 11 anyway (a Beta psyker with ML 1 or Iota psyker with ML 4 don't make much sense either).

Also it is weird how little freedom FW gives you in making Knights Errant.
>>
>>46281164
Just make sure you at least give him pariah armor, because I don't see him getting a save vs an autocannon shot.

>Also probably should just ditch chart number 10, it takes up a tone of space and is made redundant by chart 11 anyway (a Beta psyker with ML 1 or Iota psyker with ML 4 don't make much sense either).
You can be strong but unskilled and vice versa.
>>
>>46281335
Pariah armor rules make no sense to me. Is the save reduced to 5+ if the gun is >S5 or is it reduced to 5+ if the gun is >S5 and also has better AP than 3? If so, isn't that a superfluous statement?

Or do I keep the 3+ if the model gets shot with something S6 or higher as long as the AP is worse than 3?
>>
>>46281253
You only roll on chart 11 if you roll a 20 on chart 10 first. So I don't understand how it's redundant.

Also mastery level doesn't imply strength, only control over your abilities. Strength is derived from the letter rating on chart 11.
>>
>>46281447
If you get hit with S6 or higher you are down to 5+.

It makes a useless caveat saying unless the AP was low enough to bypass the armor normally. So if it's ≥S6 ≤AP3 you don't drop to a 5+ because you get hit anyway.

>You only roll on chart 11 if you roll a 20 on chart 10 first.
lrn to Roman numerals
>IX is 9
>X is 10
>XI is 11
Chart 9 is the roll to see if they have any psychic potential, chart 10 is what their level is, and 11 is their mastery level.

>>46281397
Not to that extent. A beta being ML 1 makes some sense if they aren't trained, but being a weak psyker physically limits what you are capable of, so a very weak psyker (like an iota) is probably literally incapable of doing ML 4 stuff. Saying that skill and training makes one better is like saying skill and training makes one a better runner, it is true but all the training in the world can't get you to the regular olympics if you are 4 feet tall with stumpy legs.

>>
>>46281851
The skill doesn't make him more powerful it gives him more control/ smaller chance to perils. How is this hard to understand?

I haven't seen any written examples of Cthonian, and the 'gang glyphs' we see inscribed on their armour don't seem indicative of any kind of alphabet as much as they're random scribbles.

The Word Bearers' Colchisian, on the other hand, has the flavour of a mix of Coptic and Semitic. You *could* stretch that to the Cthonians too, since names like Horus and Abaddon are literally Egyptian/Coptic and Hebrew.
>>
>>46281040

Question regarding rapier batteries:
Unit entry describes composition as 1 artillery and 2 crew, but the model combines the gun and a crew member. So what im wondering is, if the entire unit is covered by a blast template is it 2 hits or 3?
>>
>>46283201
Can't wait a few months?
>>
An interesting observation from the new Red Book:

The FAQ gave the Mor Deythan Strike Squad and the Headhunter Kill Team Implacable Advance, the new book leaves the rule off both squads.
So they don't have it now, or the FAQ is still valid? Or what is it?
>>
>>46286092
Newest rules always trump older rules.
>>
>>46286216
Still weird to apply rules to a squad in a FAQ and then leave them off in a rules update.
>>
>>46285809
Who knows. I've been wondering the same, since I had an idea for a rapier conversions that's piloted, so one of the crew would be sitting inside of it, much like the official model has a dude riding on it.

In the old IG HW squad rules you were suppose to imagine a 25mm base beneath both crew members for hits purposes. Maybe make the base so that there's a clear 25mm area beneath the operator (so if it's an urban base, a sewer crate would be beneath the operator) that you can use for blasts and templates to determine how many models were hit. For the purpose of hit allocations, since hits are directed at the closest model and the operator is technically "inside" the artillery piece, the artillery would take the hits before the operator.

As for the Jet Dildos, they were one of the two types shown in the Visions of Heresy books, the other would have looked like the Samuel bike, but they didn't make those for some reason. Perhaps something that's still to come.

Retardedrulesanon is back for more: the rites od war entry is confusing the fuck out of me, but i think i got it. An army is composed of one or more detachements from the same legion or codex and can get an allied detachement which isn' considered part of the army. Is this true or does army mean "all your 2000 points"?

My guys time,

So I'm going to be doing a HH narritive campaign set during the wars in Ultramar during the Shadow Crusade, starting with a single world and the praetors of our fleets and slowly working up to a confrontation worthy of our primarchs.

As such we all need custom Praetors for our legions, no named characters until much later.

We so far have an Ultramarine, Iron Hands/Salamander Shattered Legion, Word Bearers, and my own World Eaters, so it will fit well enough.

But I'm crafting my dude with the idea of making a rival for the Ultramarine player, who plays them in 40k and HH. He usually runs Marneus Calgar in any 40k game over 1500pts as its his favorite model and he has a really nicely painted one. However I looked up the lore and learned this from the Lexicanium wiki:

The Gauntlets of Ultramar are an ancient pair of master-crafted Power Fists, accompanied by a set of ornate shoulder plates (compatible with both Artificer Power Armour and Terminator Armour) and a set of built-in Bolters that are as deadly as a Storm Bolter. The true origins of the Gauntlets are unknown; all that is known about these relics is that they were taken back from a fell Champion of Chaos by the Primarch Roboute Guilliman after the Gamalia Reclusiam Massacre, who afterwards often used them in combat.

Seeing as I cannot find anything else on them I had the planet for the campaign named Gamalia, bit ordered the Gauntlets from the Calgar model, and am modeling a WE Praetor with the Gauntlets, changing the heralry to match my dude.

Anyone have any good ideas for name or lore to make this guy kickass? My goal is to keep him alive and active until the final Apoc game where I send him against Gulliman to almost certainly die, but it'll be a fun story.
>>
>>46289598
Your wording is a little weird, but I think I get it. So, FW tends to use army and primary detachment interchangeably, possibly because of when HH started. That said, with Rites it's a lot simpler, unless the specific Rite says otherwise Rites only affect the primary detachment.
>>
>>46289598
I'm having some serious trouble parsing your question. Maybe it's just because I just woke up...

There's a rule in LA:CAL that says "you may not take an additional primary detachment in games over 2,000 points unless specified by the particular mission".
>>
>>46289029
That's why I like KR. Everything is in those cardboard boxes which stack nicely in the closet, when I need to go I grab the ones I want and throw them in a bag
>>
>>46289841
Hmm, I seem to remember Guilliman using them on Nuceria.
But anyhow, you can fluff your guy out by having him kill the Calgar stand in(a close friend from before the heresy) and claiming his gauntlets as a trophy
>>
>>46289841
That's fantastic. It really makes me wish I had a 30k community around here.

Crunchwise how are you going to represent that?
>>
>>46289841
Sigismund was away with the WE for a lot of the Crusade, maybe this is the guy he swapped with - he picked up the Fists liking of shooting people and master crafted power fists and decided to combine them, so he could punch while he shoots and shoot while he punches.

Then he goes back to the WE and joins the Shadow Crusade, wrecking Ultramarine planets until Bobby G smacks his shit in at Gamalia

So Quad Launchers with 'Shell Shock' mean Pinning tests are taken at -1 Ld, but Quad Launchers don't actually cause Pinning for some reason. So the rule is basically useless?

Full Auxilia Command Section w/ Plasma Guns: 130 Points
Leman Russ Vanquisher w/ Lascannon, Ceramite, and Tank Commander: 260 Points

6 Medicae: 105 Points

4x Lasrifle Section w/ Blast Chargers: 500 Points
2x Flamer Section: 250

2x Leman Russ Vanquishers w/ Lascannons and Ceramite: 410 Points

Valdor w/ Lascannons and Ceramite: 330 Points

Generally just throw extra points into hunter-killer missiles or whatever. Model wise I actually run Leman Russ tanks converted from 1/35 scale Renault R35 tanks because the Russ is ugly, the auxilia dudes are actually just old inquisitorial storm troopers that I use as grenadiers in my guard army and whatever I could snatch off ebay.

As for its performance, it has a decent bit of staying power and utterly rapes heavy tanks (unless the enemy spams like 6 AV 14 vehicles or something) with its three vanquisher cannons and its neutron laser. Light vehicles are similarly fucked but I rely on my blast chargers primarily for AA which they do well enough. The Achilles heel of this list is really terminators and MEQ blobs as I lack any AP 3 whatsoever and with the exception of 2 plasma guns my only AP 2 is lascannons and vanquisher cannons. Still I can make due against a couple squads of terminators generally by spamming Str 6 fire and I can generally handle a lone blob of marines, but any more than that and I am simply overwhelmed.

Might switch the flamer sections for lasrifle sections eventually but I find them useful as a buffer against melee armies.
>>

No criticism about the list, but I'd be careful with your formatting. From the way you've written it you make it look like the Tank Commander's Russ is a HQ slot.
The Russ still takes a Heavy/Fast slot, the Commander only applies a buff that also costs a HQ.

So your Tank Commander needs both a HQ and a Heavy slot to exist. In this case it makes no difference, but it can cause trouble in the future when you start running out of FOC slots.

>>Transport Upgrade:cost
total cost

In my actual formatting I split up the commander and tank. Also, just a note all of my Leman Russ tanks are fast attack. Certain russ variants are fast attack and others are heavy support for solar auxilia.

As far as I can tell there's 3 ways to include robutts in a (non-Iron Warriors/Hands) legion force - Forge Lord w/ Cortex Controller, Praevian, and Admech Allies.

Which is the better way to go, or does it usually depend on a lot of other things as well?
>>
>>46293524
This purely me talking out my ass because I'm still assembling my first 3000 points of Space Marines, but I've been reading into Ad Mech because I don't want to paint tons of infantry (and they're pretty cool besides). Help me expand this list:

Praevin Pros:
+ Robots don't take up one of the precious Heavy Support Force Org slots.
+ Praevin joins their unit and benefits from their disgusting T score like a Magos Dominus

Praevin Cons
- Limited number of robots (1 maniple)
- Limited type of robots (Castellax or Vorax)
- Magos Dominus on Abeyant tend to have better options and survivability
>>
>>46293524

Depends what type of robutt you want.

1. Forge-Lord: Gets you Castellax or Thallax as a Heavy.
FL is a rock-solid HQ in his own right so this one can almost be considered 'free'. It takes up a potentially-very valuable HS though and your robots are plain, without any extra toys.
Best bet if you just wanted a squad without investing much into them.

2. Praevian: Gets you a bodyguard of upgraded Vorax or Castellax.
Very Legion-dependant IMO, Raven Guard or Emperors Children get some horrific output from this. The good bit is that it only needs a HQ slot, the bad is that it cannot be compulsory.
Probably my favourite, but Legion-dependant.

3. Allied Mechanicum: Whole book obviously
Demands investment from the HQ but you can take anything you want, and you get Cybertheurgy. Steals away your Allies though.
I'm not such a fan because you only really gain access to Ursarax, Domitar or Thallax. I'd consider the Castellax and Vorax to be better without taking an Ally slot that can be better invested on Troops. That said,, if you didn't want Allies anyway then you get the widest variety and best buffs here.

4. Brothers of Iron Rite
It's basically the exact same story as the Forge Lord, except that you get way more of them and they don't take your useful HS slots. Costs you a MotL though.
If you were taking a Praetor anyway and didn't mind the Consul hit, it gets you more robutt per point. But you spend more on your HQ slots and the only real win is that you can take multiple units.
>>
>>46293706
>Praevin Cons
>- Limited number of robots (1 maniple)

Its two, the praevian has a cortex controller which opens up another maniple of robots as your Heavy Support, you could have 2 praevians for 4 squads of battlebots.
>>
>>46293809
You're right, my bad. I'm just very opposed to taking robots in my Heavy Support slots because I usually need all of them.
>>
>>46292397
Thanks, old stormtroopers rock. I was asking myself how you afforded all those lasrifle sections. I recommend demolisher dracosans with some veletaris due to coolness.
>>
>>46293975
I actually have thought of a demolisher/battle cannon spam list that amounts to several velatris storm sections in dracosans with demolisher cannons as well as some leman russ demolishers and some leman russ battle tanks. Would sure help supplement my current list if I combined this idea with my current list to give me some means of fucking over terminators and MEQs.
>>
>>46291880
You won't be happy with the price and the rekt leviathan base.
>>
>>46294076
I want to go the mechanised route because I really love veletaris and their Martian Ray Guns. Sadly one dracosan and veletaris squad cost about 150 euro-bucks.
>>
>>46293756
>I'm not such a fan because you only really gain access to Ursarax, Domitar or Thallax
Don't forget the Thanatar! That's the biggest thing you'd be getting out of Mechanicum allies that you can't get otherwise. Also, you can take Thallax in a Legion list as optional heavy support already - it's just... kind of stupid to do so.
>>
>>46294175
You can always look for recasters. Z is selling Dracosans for 56 bucks and a squad of velatris for 32 bucks last I checked. Check out /r/yoyhammer, they are pretty good about recasters.

Also ebay, although the prices tend to be higher than the guys you have to dig for and email as shady as it is. Haven't ordered in a while but when I last ordered from Chinaman years ago (don't even know the password to his catalogue or his email anymore) his quality was very good, even if the resin was brittle as hell. On the topic of ebay I once bought Elysians whose hands were like backwards or something. Not sure how to describe it and not sure how it is possible but it gave me a headache until I realized what was actually wrong with the hands.
>>
>>46294323
Miranda Irene and Sylvia White both have websites that keep current buying info available, and they are better quality.
If you already have Z you can save enough over the cost of an army to replace the miscasts, but it's not worth the stress compared the the better softer options imo.
>>
>>46294323
Nah Z's stuff sucks dog cock and the really good recasters no one is willing to share their info publically because the recasters have told their clients specifically not to.
>>
>>46293706
>>46293756
Thanks.

I don't think I'd want to go whole hog on them, so I think Praevian would be the way to go.

Admech allies would give the best range, and if I decide to make an admech force at some point it'd be an option (they are indeed cool as shit), but moderation and wanting "Legion" automata makes the non-allied methods seem cooler (also the other allies are cool too)

I'm leaning more towards vorax - partly because some scouting predator-bots seems really cool, partly just for the models.
And having a Fast Attack unit that doesn't eat an FA slot is neat.
>>
>>46294323
Thanks for the advice, but it would feel shot to only save 20 euros while keeping FW from recieving money.

In addition to the Templar Brethren Solarite Gauntlet (which has an awesome getting-ready-for-a-shoryuken pose) there's also the Sternguard Veteran power fist and the Forge World Character Conversion Power Fist which looks really cool, like a Reaver Titan fist and you can see the space marine's power armored hand inside the palm.

>Not a terrible idea, though it should be 32mm in this case, since that's the new size for marines.
What the fuck? When (and why) did this happen?
>>
>>46296532
Probably not that different to regular BA.

If you look at examples of precursor Executioners and Red Talons that FW has done they just have their guy's logo (twin axes for Rann, Talon for Mor) on their armour.
>>
>>46297078

They got sick of feet hanging over the edge so they started giving the new BA plastics 32mm. It looked decent (to them and many players) so they rolled with it. I personally hate it but that's because my 25mm marines all have running legs that don't take up a lot of space.

Necron Overlord also went to 40mm because his model is stepping on a rock and won't fit on 25mm. Necron Warriors are also 32mm.

GW says you can use the 25mm bases or 32mm bases, whatever you like. But new boxes only come with 32mm.

2) Subtle Hellenistic designs incorporated into their aesthetic (patterns especially)
3) Their human auxiliaries use the same name as some Seleucid (?) military formation

Sons of Horus/Luna Wolves, Imperial Fists, World Eaters prob have the best heroes.
>>
>>46296532
Blood Angels are described generally as "a sea of red" in some HH stuff, so while many companies probably had different color schemes/honors, they were likely still primarily red. You could likely just do the Flesh Tearers' chapter scheme, albeit with the Blood Angels icon instead of the saw blade. That could be on the right pauldron with the company numeral.

You could also give them the Death Guard treatment with a bunch of scratches and shit, since Nassir left them on his armor.

Mk III, with some Mk IV as they slowly replaced their armor with later marks. In the heresy, everyone used every mark due to the need for battlefield repairs.

Can't go wrong with Black for weapon casings.

God that reminds me of the time when my Alpha Legion friend "borrowed" some Red Butchers.

He gave them all lightning claws and gave the sergeant a power dagger as well.

He went into combat with an assault squad and issued a challenge. It was with my blood Angels.

My dude had artificer and a power axe. He knew that his weapons would bounce off me so he retracted the lighting claws and pulled out a knife.

He hit with all his attacks, stabbed my sergeant in the balls and then killed two other blokes. With a fucking knife.

We had a laugh at the mental image.

Does anybody feel that all of the paint schemes online for Blood Angels are... I dunno, too bright?

It's always this bright red. I prefer the idea that they have this deeper red (like y'know, blood) on their armour.

Does anybody know a tutorial with a dark red BA paint scheme.

Pic is an example of too bright. Although nice looking to be fair.

To be fair, if you go darker red, you'll end up with Word Bearers. Though if you keep the iconography clear it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Not really, my best guess would be that you'd start with a darker metal base, perhaps with a zenithal of a lighter metallic to really catch the light, which gives you brighter highs, but darker lows.

Not necessarily Tamiya, the FW clears probably work too, but yeah, airbrush for the most part.

Another way to get rich red (which can be done with a brush, just a fair bit of work).
Vallejo Model Air Turn Signal Red (which is basically pink) and then wash it with a few coats of Army Painter Red Tone wash.

Would be a pain in the ass to highlight, but it will give you a gorgeous rich red metallic.

See attached image for an example. More coats (and perhaps adding some GW Carroburgh Crimson) should darken it up a little bit.

Sure, although I think that Solar Auxilia would look better as storm troopers, scions, or kasrkin than regular guardsmen grunts. Besides the militia army is way more versatile in terms of infantry. They actually have good Ogryn. 35 point Ogryn that can be among other things (could choose up to 2 provences)
+1 attack
+1 more attack
+1 s
+1 t
power armour

I may eventually have to make a cults army focused on Ogryn capable of beating Lorgar in a wrestling match. 40 S/T 6 Ogryn for 1560 points total.

>>
>>46308336

They're like super storm troopers with tau guns. Also enormous tanks. They're what I wish IG was
>>
>>46308385
Are they all BS4 or anything?
>>
>>46308336
They are pretty much a cross between a heavier Imperial Guard and storm troopers.
>All your dudes are 4+
>Your basic lasguns outrange bolters by a good bit
>Velatris are fucking brutal

Besides that you have better access to tanks being able to take certain Leman Russ variants as FA and the rest as HS so up to 18 tanks in a single FoC theoretically speaking. Your basic transport is tough and has a ton of potential damage output if you take the demolisher cannon. So if you want to spam tanks but like short range demolisher cannons you can take tons of them in a list. The downside is that everything is fairly expensive with the exception of troops. Your tanks are expensive, your transports are likely more expensive than the soldiers they are carrying, the flyers you can take inflate in price fast and are fairly soft.

Playing against HH armies is pretty hard since your vehicles are so expensive and your infantry can't take special weapons, but against 40k armies where MEQ blobs aren't really a thing and people like to use light vehicles a lot more they are absolutely lethal. Their ability to use blast chargers, volkite chargers, and their multilaser spam (hull multilasers and pintle multilasers on tanks) are extremely useful against light armour and even MCs as they will start failing armour saves eventually.

Granted the weakness against HH armies may be due to my list which tends to focus on a handful of tank killing tanks and footslogging blobs.
>>
>>46308489

Yep, they also gain WS for being base to base with each other and can take some fun weapons. Vets can take volkite chargers and go full Mars Attacks
>>
>>46308500
>>46308519
Jesus that's fucking brutal.

I might look into them. Give a break from the constant marine on marine action.
>>
>>46308489
No, basic troops are BS 3, vehicles are also BS 3, but Velatris storms who get Volkite chargers (S/AP 5, assault 2, 18" range IIRC) are BS 4 and can absolutely shred blobs since that is what Volkite weapons do best. As for vehicles tank commanders can be taken as HQ choices for BS 4, and the HS tanks get +1 BS (I assume this stacks with tank commanders) as long as at least two tanks in the same squadron are shooting at the same target.

I may have to take the Volkite Russ with a hull and pintle multilaser eventually, two in a squadron with tank commanders in each tank just to have 20 Str 6 shots at BS 5

Make some Mor Deythan, get rhinos for them.

Snag some drop pods for the B@C Contemptors, use them as Cortus.

Never buy a Darkwing as a FA choice, use them as DT's to keep your FA free AND give you another gunship.

RG is more about how you use things rather than what you bring. Use vets, Mor Deythan, and Furies to scour scoring. Never fight fair in CC. Hamstring Spartans with Lightnings loaded with Krakens and shoot deathstars.

>i always thought sniper heavy bolters was MLG-pro plays?
Not really, they are still only AP 4. Honestly your furious charge vets seem to exist just because. Power fist doesn't need furious charge since either way it will wound marines on a 2+ and you already have meltabombs for tanks. Even then the furious charge doesn't help much unless you give them power weapons.

I would say drop one unit of vets and beef up the other, power weapons if you keep furious charge, plasma guns or missile launchers if you keep the snipers (AP 2 and 3 respectively means you can actually hunt marines) also give the sergeant a combi-weapon on the snipers.
>>
>>46312372
New
>>
>>46312250
Orginally the FC vets were tank hunter vets, but then i figured with 10 MB, you dont need TH. the fist comes out of a disscussion with another anon about the fact that its only 5 points more to have a fist over a sword, and they are generally better. What should i replace them with? i am worries about losing out on anti-tank.

the sniper HB get rending though, so the main point of that squad is to throw as many dice down range as possible to get some lucky rends.
