>>
>>46250533
apart from the Nemean Lion reference, nothing about him really seems Zahariel-like. He's more like a Sigismund-like, given his sword dueling ability and jealous command. Also he's not a psyker.
>>
Has anyone tried out an arlatax battle automata yet? I can't work out whether it'd be worth taking one with paragon of metal and 2 of the claws and let it loose. It's offensive capabilites look great but the toughness 6 and 3+ save don't.

The Primarch Angron
··Master of the Legion [Beserker Assault]

Pretty straightforward tactics. Angron rides the pod with 20 dudes with surlak either joining him or the the inducti squad. Preator with butchers.

Spartans charge up, kharybdis drops in behind enemy lines a la hammer and anvil evilness.

Sicaran for the l.o.w targets

All hatred, all re-roll 1's to wound and the inducti are strength 5. Due to the apothecary both large tac squads have the ability to gain an extra attack if they wish too

Because thats how the table works, basically you make an HQ and roll 3d6 on whatever warlord trait table you want and choose one. Then as the campaign moves on your character gains rolls on some tables (Characteristics and other bonuses) but for the sake of doing this without a campaign I always just roll once on the characteristics and then once on the other table.

Figured the last thread would die fast so I'll post one more time. Would appreciate c&c on my Long March list I've been mulling over a while. It also scales up to 3k with Horus and more termies.

2000 Total

Legion Vigilator
Artificer Armour, Melta Bombs, Power Weapon, Refractor Field

Maloghurst the Twisted

Legion Tactical Squad
20x Legion Tactical Space Marines, Legion Vexilla, Nuncio-Vox, Extra CCW
Artificer Armour, Power Fist

Legion Terminator Squad
Dreadclaw, Chainfist, 4x Combi-Weapon,
3x Lightning Claw, Tartaros Terminator Armour
··Legion Terminator Sergeant
Combi-Weapon, Grenade Harness

Reaver Attack Squad
10x Reavers
Dreadclaw, Artificer Armour, Melta Bombs, 2x Power Fist, 10x Volkite Charger
Legion Apothecary
Artificer Armour, Augury Scanner, Power Sword

Legion Quad Launcher Support Battery
3x Legion Rapier, Shatter Shells

Deathstorm Drop Pod
Drop Pod Assault, Deathstorm Krak Launchers

Sicaran Venator Tank Destroyer
Auxiliary Drive, Dozer Blade

All combi weapons are plasma. Mal sits with rapiers and can score a WL. Vigilator scouts the blob up, hopefully with enough to outnumber later on.

Thanks guys

2000 points of IH Armoured Breakthrough

So the idea here is that literally everything except for the Medusas and Gorgons have IWND thanks to the Headless Primarch. Most of this shit is Fast. The Sicaran has BS 5.

Castrmen means the Caestus is a BS 5, twin-linked, Melta (lel), and Tank Hunter. Old Iron Handjob is giving it IWND and fixing it up on a 3+ each round, meaning I'm guaranteed to smash my phallus-replacement into the enemy lines.

LoW:
Iron Hand, Primarch of the Iron Hands

HQ:
Master of Armour Sicaran (Armoured Ceramite, Lascannon sponsons)

Elites:
9x Gorgon Terminators (2x Chainfists, 6x Power Fists, Sarge has Cyber-familiar)

Troops:
3x Predators each in their own squadron

Heavy Support:
2x Medusa each in their own squadron
1x Caestus Ass Ram (piloted by Spearhead-Centurion Castrmen Orth)

>>
>>46254159
I would probably just make him a WS 7 praetor with an AP 2 charnabal sabre. Doesn't need anything else, is far from the best build EC can get for melee HQs but good enough to at least do something in challenges.
>>
>>46254607

Yeah sure, and where did you get the photo from? Because every single time it's been posted, I or someone else has provided the answer, and if you got it somewhere else, that site likely provided that photo in addition to instructions anyway, and I'm pretty sure you got that image off /tg/.
>>
>>46254631

Is he a Praetor-level though? He seems like an absolute embodiment of the 'Champion' Consul type. And I can't think of a reason he'd have Master of the Legion.

Agreed on having an AP2 weapon though. Might be interesting to give him an Attack stat equal to the opponents WS to represent his arrogance.
>>
>>46254732
I did get it of /tg/, these threads in fact, and I kept it because I liked the look of it but I had no interest in going Alpha Legion at the time.

I'm telling the truth man.
>>
>>46254773

So you saved the image and didn't read all the posts linking the post that contained that image.

Tell me again why I should waste my time helping you when I've already posted the recipe over a dozen times?

Spray silver, then use Tamiya Clears. I'll leave it to you to figure out which two Tamiya Clear colors to use since your brain seems like it could use the exercise.
>>
>>46254732
Not the guy who posted the image, but I'm looking for a good guide for my AL coloring. If you know could you help this pleb? Or, give me a link for such guide?
>>
>>46254732
not the same person but I posted this earlier this week . also I never got a real answer everyone says "just look it up" ive tried using washes/glazes to get this to work but it just wont.
>>
>>46254848
Nope I forgot it. Hence me asking here.

But thanks anyway I guess.
>>
>>46254904

You need to use Tamiya Clear, it's thicker than Citadel glazes and more vibrant and saturated.

>>46254890

Spray Leadbelcher or silver of choice
Airbrush Tamiya Clear Blue
Airbrush Tamiya Clear Green
Touch up with Tamiya Clear Blue

FW goes a step further and does several in between steps that use green/blue mixes for zenithal and washing but it's not required.
>>
>>46254758
I would probably make him more akin to a champ except in 40k at least he has a Chaos Lord statline and he is a captain and not a dedicated champion in the actual legion structure.

But yeah the WS idea is good. I would say make him WS 7, in challenges which he always has to issue and accept (even over all other models and characters that have the same sort of rules) his WS is equal to his opponent's up to a maximum of 8 (not that WS 8 would help him fight a primarch or anything). If his challenges were refused or he is in combat with a unit with no characters he is WS 7, if you are challenging Kharn you can actually fight him on equal footing, if you challenge some WS 3 Imperialis Militia guy he will just fuck around at WS 3 during the duel.
>>
>>46253695
Depends, they do make the enemy take a lot of saves but at only S3 I think heavy bolters would end up being better. They're only four shots per guy at S3 versus three shots per guy at S5... against T4 with a 2+ I think rating them at 3/5 is being generous.
>>
>>46254974
Thank you very much sir. God bless you.

>>
>>46254974
I don't suppose you have any tips on buying airbrushes and compressors?
>>
>still no vigil storm shield kit
fw pls
>>
>>46254848
Dude, you are a huge faggot.
>>
>>46255253

It's not as simple as buying a brush where people can just say "kolinsky". Ideally you want to pay more for your brush and compressor as that guarantees higher build quality, but you don't really need to pay more than $100 for a brush and $100-200 for a compressor.

Good brands for airbrushes are Iwata and Badger, you know you have a good brush if you pay $100+ and get dual action gravity feed from those brands. I think Paasche is also a popular brand.

Compressors have lots of brands. You mainly want one that can put out enough psi (which is very low for miniatures) and isn't too loud. You also need to make sure it's compatible with your airbrush, which you can do with some simple hoses and connection pieces. Don't forget moisture traps. Compressors tend to be very expensive. Don't expect to find one worth using under $100-150.

If you try to buy a $10-20 chinese brandless airbrush on eBay or one of those $100 all in one compressor airbrush starter kits, you're going to have a bad time. I'm sure it'll be serviceable but the action will be stiff and clunky rather than smooth and enjoyable and it will just be all around low quality, just like using a $1 brush and trying to paint eyeball pupils.

No, you're just fucking morons. As evidenced by the flaming homosexual taking the same side as you.

If he got that image, from /tg/ no less, he knows it's posted constantly here. That's how he got it in the first place. Even a complete newfag who never lurks manages to snag that image, because it's so fucking common.

That means either the recipe was given, LIKE IN THIS VERY THREAD WHERE I JUST FUCKING GAVE IT (AND BOY, GEE I WONDER HOW I KNEW THE RECIPE?!) so he should have it already, OR he took it from a thread where the recipe wasn't given to him. Wonder why that happens?

Because just like now, people are fucking fed up with newfags asking to be spoonfed how to paint that shitty AL scheme. Just fucking find it yourself it's easy as shit to find.
>>
>>46254402
A lot of the forgeworld glossy/chrome-like finishes are achieved by airbrushing some kind of clear color (blues and greens for AL, Reds and Oranges for TS) over a metallic basecoat. See there brass scorpion, for example. That's red over silver, where they airbrushed darker veins of brass to create that marbled look.

In case you're curious, if you're looking for a harder/not chrome marble, like the warlord titan's shoulder plates, you give second coat with an airbrush against torn masking tape over a lighter first coat.

Their metals are pretty simple, they do a lot of sponging for larger surface areas and weathering and basic basecoat -> dark ink -> highlight in chipped pattern.

>>46257113
Not particularly viable in comparison to, say, plasma rifles, due to their Heavy rule. I mean, they could definitely work if you had a table where the enemy could be bottle-necked and then drowned in those difficult terrain templates, but the unit lacks versatility and has to be moved with considerable thought so you don't miss out on that one golden opportunity to fire the grav guns.

At the end of the day though, do you like grav guns? Get some grav guns. Make them work or have fun trying.

Short answer: Not really.

Long answer: It really depends on your opponent. FNP is nice, as is Scout, and the ability to take jump packs. They're very good against Mechanicum mainly because they rely on high toughness to compensate for their shitty saves. They can all issue and accept challenges, which is nice. Meteor hammers are strong on the charge, striking first with four attacks. Excoriator chainaxes chew through MEQ bullshit at AP3 and with Shred they're your go-to for eating gay Mechanicum robots. Falax blades are superior to power swords against TEQs. Hook lashes are kind of bad, but can wound MCs thanks to Fleshbane. Just don't use them against Death Guard.

Real talk, though. A unit of Vets with power weapons does the same thing whilst costing less and having Furious Assault.

If I'm not really interested in the characters, termis or dred, is B@C really worth it? Would be getting it for the plastic Mk IV tacticals, but feel it's probably a better deal to just wait for them to appear as a standalone box (looking at the current price of 40k tacticals).

How do you apply Blood for the Blood God to models without getting the look of "I like slathering red goo on myself?"

It's for my World Eaters. I want them fairly drenched in gore.
>>
>>46264170
1.) Take brush, dip in paint
2.) Wipe most of it back into the pot, you don't want the brush drenched, but a fair ammount on it.
3.) Place the model you want gored up, on some paper, or a plastic sheet
4.) Slam the handle of the brush on the edge of a desk or table, or your hand towards the model. This will give it a random, splattered look

The only potential problem I can think of is the pod with Sev and friends. It's very expensive and in your only pod. Against an army with a strong interceptor presence (read: a deredeo) you might get ass blasted before you can deploy. Also the regular drop pod will leave you exposed for a turn before you can charge. Having said that you could just drop it behind cover and pick up an objective turn 1 and set up a nasty charge for turn 2.

The most frustrating thing about Sevatar is fitting him into a Terror Assault list, but I think yours is pretty good.

I'd drop some fists for axes and try to squeeze some points for combi-weapons on your termies so they don't have to sit around doing nothing on the turn they come in.
>>
>>46264170

A good way that I found to get that "meaty" gore in chain weapons is as follows:

>Get a brush you dont care about

>Mix about 1:1 of a dark red and a very light red with 1:2 Elmer's to paint with some sand (amount depending on use, ie very heavy for hacked up models on scenic bases to represent their guts spilling out)

>Find place on model where gore would accumulate, like where chains on chain weapons spin into there housings

>Daub some into that recces then steak (quickly so much doesn't accumulate) along the weapon in direction it would be swung

Don't overdo it, but it can give weapons a gross meaty look, highlight or wash as you see fit
>>
>>46259659

If the enemy puts AC on more than like, 2 vehicles, you're winning the points trade there.

Especially when you can just use a saboteur to blow up said vehicle for the same price as all his AC upgrades
>>
>>46263637
>>46264359
Also I'd be curious to see how your Raptors work out in that configuration. I see most people try and leave at least 3 models with no upgrades to use as sacrificial wounds, maybe more if it's escorting a fire magnet like Kurze. But on the other hand Kurze confers stealth and shrouded. On turn 1 you will have a 2+ cover save from that and the 5+ From the Shadows rule. Depending on how you've already modeled your dudes I might run 2 or 3 naked and spend the points on either flamers or some more combi-weapons for your termies. Either way this unit will be a CC nightmare.

Flamers will always be good vs the kinds of targets you will want them to go after. If your meta has a lot of rhinos melta would be great at busting open that thin candy shell. Alternatively if you are running lots of chainglaives melta could make the unit into a decent anti-teq force, by helping you outnumber them so you'll rend on 5+ from TfM.

Time for the noob question: world eaters who have access to chainsword can take axes instead. What does having access mean? Can i give axes to my veterans or does having access only mean being able to buy?
>>
>>46265699
Fucking hell not this shit again
>>
>>46265699
"access" means poor wording, basically.

Forge World should have said "Any model with a chainsword may replace it with a chainaxe for free" or "Any model that can purchase a chainsword may purchase a chainaxe for the same points cost" depending on which they intended. Check the wording on Imperial Fist Solarite Gauntlets for an example that isn't vague. Basically we just need to wait until the next FAQ or someone posts a Forge World support email.
>>
>>46265782
Did they seriously not deem it necessary until now? I mean betrayal is pretty pld and i found many people talking about it. I hoped it was faqed already

Sigh, daily reminder
>>
>>46266279
Here we go again. Lots of people, myself included, don't like the ambiguity of the WE chainaxe replacement rules and want a ruling direct from FW before learning toward the 'free stuff' side.
>>
>>46266279
Note how all of those list as an option, or eligible to take, where as the axes list only access, and is distinct from the other for free wording.
I'd still play it as free axes, but the precedent is meaningless here.
>>
>>46265699

"Access" means a whole lot of things to a whole lot of people

To some on /tg/ "access" means a model must have a chainsword as part of its wargear to get a close chainaxe, so vets could take them for free because they have chainswords as part of their wargear (or rather they have "access" to either a chainsword or close combat weapon as part of their wargear)

Others think that a model that has the ability to buy a chainsword has "access" equal to a model that takes a chainsword or CCW as part of its base war gear, creating the option for say, tacticals that they could either buy a chainsword/CCW for 2pts, or take a chainaxe for free

While I have no involvement in this personally (I don't play WE, nor does anyone at my club) I tend to subscribe to the second interpretation because we know from the FW website that they haven't changed the wording in the new legion book, and from book 6 we have several examples of wargear options in which models must have a weapon equipped as part of their wargear to get access to a different one (Warblades and assault cannons come to mind) and examples of ones wherein models must merely have the option (or, as they put it in the BA handflamer rule and Xenos deathlock rules, "access") to take another weapon.

This was their chance to clear it up, if they had meant or you to buy the chainaxe they would have changed the rule to read "part of wargear", but they didn't, kept the wording the same, and published a whole bunch of similarly worded rules.

>inb4 I get those "you's" arguing that "access" and "access as part of wargear" are two completely separate things

I honestly don't know why FW hasn't put out a faq for this yet, it would literally take a one line explanation (change "access" to "access as wargear or options") to completely clear up an argument that has gone on for years at this point
>>
>>46266313
It doesn't help that, as meaningless as this may be, FW email scrubs ruled against the more common interpretation.
>>
>>46266279

"World Eaters don't have access to a Chainaxe until they've paid 2pt for a CCW!"

> White Scars don't have access to a Glaive until they've paid for a Power Weapon
> Glaives are 30pts each

> Blood Angels don't have access to a lade of Perdition until they've paid for a Power Fist
> Blades are 45pts each

> Dark Angels don't have access to a Plasma Repeater until they've paid for a Plasma Gun
> Repeaters are 35pts each

I am the first person who asked (sorry to shit up the thread) amd i agree axe should be free for tacticals, but i wanted a cofirmation that veterans can't get it, because eventhough it's unlikely and they probably can't, nothing makes ot absolutely clear they can't. I know they probably can't, but the fact that access to is usually used in another way doesn't mean it cpuldn't mean possess too.
>>
>>46266493

So you don't even play WE, and wanted confirmation on the only thing everyone actually agrees with. Dayum son
>>
>>46266493

I've always thought that they intentionally cut access short to have both meanings, a model that has the option to take a chain sword or combat blade as part of its wargear (such as vets) has access to a chain sword, a model that can buy a chain sword (such as tacticals) also has access to a chain sword
>>
>>46266472
Welp, that settles it.
>>
So my group is running a custom campaign and I might have a chance to have a slightly buffed Siggy fight a slightly weakened Horus. Should I try it or just opt for the old fashioned shooting him off the board?
>>
>>46266539
I am starting WE ,i worded it like that because i tended towards them not getting it. It doesn't seem that obvious to me and so i asked about the part apparently everyone agrees on. It seemed strange to me because access is usually used for models/units that can buy it, not that have ot already

>>
>>46267236
>FW didnt FAQ it because they presume the players possess at least some reading comprehension.
Which is funny because players have consistently proven that they either don't, or will pretend not to, in an effort to read the rules they want

A lot of Legion-specific units are pretty overcosted or just underwhelming in terms of their special / unique rules. Rampagers, Phalanx Warders, etc. I'd honestly be more interested in seeing which ones people think are worthwhile like Invictarus Suzies, Tyrant Siege Terminators, etc.
>>
>>46267566
>I'd honestly be more interested in seeing which ones people think are worthwhile
Night Lords special units are pretty legit
>>
>>46267237
That depends. With the changes introduced by the latest red book (the Age of Darkness Legions) some of the Legion specific Terminator units received a buff.

For instance:
Phoenix Terminators are pretty epic now, they've been buffed a fair bit thanks to changes to their stats (they're all WS5 now) and their gear (they're listed as Tartaros suits now), and Sonic Shriekers modifying WS rather than I.

Justaerin now have 2 wounds each, which makes them better for the same cost.
>>
>>46267590
How do you load out your Night Raptor squads? My first impulse (just screwing around in BattleScribe, I don't play NL... yet) was to put Curze with them since they're all Jump Infantry, but then you can't smash your deathstar-phallus into the enemy's Terminator-Primarch-deathstar-phallus.
>>
>>46267566

Many of the Legion units are top tier. Without going to too much detail, a very rough guide:

> Warmaster tier
Justaerin
Gal Vorbak
Terror Squads
Firedrakes
Tyrants
Havocs
Furies
Mor Deythan
Invictarii
Fulmentarii

> Sanguinius tier
Reavers
Dreadclaws
Red Butchers
Palatines
Phoenix Guard
Grave Wardens
Deathshroud
Raptors
Pyroclasts
Lernaeans
Templars
Locutarii

> Russ tier
Rampagers
Ashen Circle
Gorgons
Immortals
Warders
Darkwing

Will happily go into depth about the Sons of Horus, but otherwise not really familiar with the units.
>>
>>46267687

Red Books are compilations, they started work on it before Book 6 came out I imagine.
Which is why the additional Rites of War and Legiones Astartes Rules introduced in book 6 are missing.
Sometimes they introduce new units, as they were basically complete and could be included.

Examples of this are the Ordinatus Minoris for the Mechanicum (which were printed in their red book like a year before the model came out). Also, the "Iron Circle" robots for the Iron Warriors are new in this book.

Or they could get them for free by switching our their bolter, which is probably what was intended to make them appear as proto-berserkers, dropping their bolter for a chainaxe.
>>
>>46267687
>Palatines
>Not Warmaster tier
One of the most versatile legion units in the game
>Can be cheap 20ish point dudes who are just WS 5 and rending
>Can take jump packs for mobility
>Can take power swords for butchering MEQ hordes (which in all honesty is probably a better application of legion units than trying to build an 800 point death star to kill other death stars)
>Can take Phoenix spears allowing them to butcher terminators and other legion units
>Can take sonic shriekers
Only real downside is power armour which isn't too much of a downside when units dedicated to killing units like them are probably armed with AP 2 weapons anyway.
