I hope they do, it's too sexy to pass up.

yea, but they're also bugged (some weapons dont work) and they might end up doing a balance pass before they come out to the real game.

Judging by how much they seem to love the source material (and the fact that their proverbial neckbeards can be seen from orbit), I have no doubt that they'll be adding content and ships for a long while.

And I feel you, the day I can take my Avenger and AAF that bastard up the middle of an enemy fleet is the day...well, the day that happens. Can't be clever at work.

>>
>>46161957
Yeah, they've got an internal testing unit working alongside the public beta, and apparently that there's currently a bunch of rebalancing of the other two races going on based on their feedback. Presumably the Xeno ship stats and capabilities found in the open beta client are outdated already.

Word is, Orks used to be pretty overpowered because you pretty much just had to charge in close and they'd melt everything. Eldar apparently were very dangerous under AI control because it can micro shit for days, but pretty weak when controlled by a human.
>>
>>46161924
Might be a bit problematic that there are no xenos equivalent of grand cruisers. Imperium and Chaos have some, but neighter Orks or Eldar have them. They already had to move one of the Eldar CAs to the BC slot to fill that one, so I'm not sure how to elegantly handle the lack of grand cruisers for those factions.

A pity since I do like them. Repulsive is one of my favourite ships in BFG.

I want some real escort missions like protecting a universe-class mass conveyor, instead of those dinkyass transport ships

The exorcist is probably the wiser choice in the long run, but the idea of every weapon slot filled with massed banks of large cannons vomiting the video game equivalent of 16 dice gets me a tingly in my tumbly.

That and I am not a smart man, and subtle tactics is beyond me, so the Avenger fits perfectly.
>>
>>46161924
With any luck, NEVAR! I always felt that the Imperial Grand Cruisers were the Fugliest thing they ever added to the game. Even more so than the most recent generation Hive Shit.

It also makes no Emperor Damned sense that these things mount four broadside hardpoints visually whilst BB's only mount three. The whole double-decker thing is just wanky Bull Shiite.
>>
>>46162085

Why does it have to be even? Imperials legitimately just have more ship types. Eldar have cruisers out the ass if you allow their variant loadouts and that's the idea you want mostly.

Orks don't have regular grand cruisers but their 10 HP hulls are kinda already halfway to BCs as it is

>>
>>46162099

It's not out of the question. 40k video games have been given the GW blessing to make new shit and have even transferred that back to the tabletop in some cases or at least the fluff.

Dawn of war threw the blood Ravens into the spotlight and Space Marine canonized the vengeance launcher. BFG making new ships isn't that ridiculous

Can we talk about Retribution class battleships? They seem enormously underwhelming in BFG:A. What am I meant to do with it? It doesn't seem to work in a gunline, it doesn't seem to be any good at sniping, it's far too fat to be sent off on its own...

Yeah. I like the Avenger for how brutal and to the point it is. No fancy manouvers and tactics, just several kilometers of macrobatteries and bad attitude.

According to Rogue Trader it's actually the most reliable of the grand cruisers, but unfortunately among the rarest, since they had an extremely high attrition rate due to being primarily used to crash into the middle of the enemy fleet and firing all the guns at point-blank range. All surviving examples are covered in battle-scars from forgotten wars back when the Imperium was still young.

That's another reason I like the grand cruisers. They're invariably ancient ships, veterans of thousands of battles now mostly mothballed due to being considered obsolete relics with a reputation of being unreliable or downright cursed. Yet they're still a force to be reconed with, many sporting advanced systems the Mechanicus barely understands anymore, and while many have fallen the surving ones still loyally serve the Emperor after all these millenias.
>>
>>46162329

Microwarp jump, stasis bomb, target engines. Take escorts, 3x firestorms cover a lot of weaknesses in imperial ships
>>
>>46162399
I don't really like how the Eldar ships stand still while firing. They don't seem as hyper mobile as the TT game makes them.
Maybe that's a good thing though.
>>
>>46162329
While I don't personally have one, I have been on the receiving end of an aggressive Retribution class - it can be very scary if it's stuck in the middle of an enemy fleet with Lock-On, splitting cruisers in two with its prow armor while dumping macro battery fire into everything near it.

It just needs support. It's sort of the opposite of the Emperor class - one helps the fleet be awesome, another needs the help of the fleet to BE awesome.
>>
>>46162151
>Eldar have cruisers out the ass if you allow their variant loadouts and that's the idea you want mostly.
Unless they've added a ton of Eldar ships in some semi-official source, the only cruisers for the Corsair fleet (ie. the standard BFG Eldar) are the Shadow and the Eclipse, neigther of which has much choise in weapon loadout.

Now, the Craftworld Eldar have the Dragonship, which had a ton of variations (IIRC you have three hardpoints and can freely pick lances, batteries, launchbays and torpedoes in any combination), but that's an entirely different fleet from the Corsairs, with a wholly different aestethic.
>>
>>46162419

BFG Armada is neat and all, but until it lets you make your own custom fleet battles and not just do this mission/renown BS the game will be useless
>>
>>46162184
>>46162362
It does seem to be too close to the Eye, given the fluff on the FFG books is that Calixis is pretty calm sector when it comes to any large scale stuff (there's a ton of heretical cults and shit, but not really any large-scale Chaos incrusions and the like), which would seem somewhat unlikely if it were right next door to the Eye.
Also it's supposed to be very close to the rim of the galaxy given that the Koronus Expanse is directly rimwards from it and extends to the Halo Stars.
>>
>>46162436

I think they didn't have the "attacking while moving won't cancel your move" option turned on
>>
>>46162329
The basic thing about pretty much all battleships in BFG is that they don't actually offer all that more raw firepower. Point for point, you'll get more dakka through just buying more cruisers.

However, what battleships are (usually) good at is resilience. They can take a pounding like nothing else and still keep on trucking. With the Retribution in particular, you pretty much want it front and center of your formation, heading right ot the enemy to draw much of the enemy fire and force them to maneuver. If they don't move they'll eat a huge torp salvo and have to contend with a big number of macro batteries up close, and if they do move that gives your other cruisers a better opportunity to close in and isolate their own targets. The extra range is mostly just a bonus, so it can still contribute to the fight when faster enemy ships try to back off.

So basically, give the Retribution a teleport, some better engines and shields, maybe that one mod that increases battery accuracy at long ranges, and pretty much use it like a giant battering ram.
>>
>>46162508
THIS. I really hate not allowing custom battles. Also, bullet time is glitched for me. Everytime I use it I can't select my ships.

>>46162480

>>46162344
I will keep this in mind.

Now if the game would stop restarting my graphics card every ten minutes, I'd be happy...
>>
My favourite grand cruiser is also the ugliest. The Furious class is not a pretty ship but it has dorsal lances, torpedoes and BB strength batteries.
>>
>>46162495
Depends on the class. Avengers, and Exorcists aren't particularly noted to turn traitor (they're just considered unreliable, Avenger somewhat less so, due to being difficult to maintain). Repulsive is another matter entirely. So few loaylist examples exist anymore that it's commonly forgotten to have been an Imperial vessel in the first place.
You can't really blame the captain, though. At least according to RT, Repulsives have a design flaw that if their engines are not properly maintained (and they never are because much of the knowledge needed to build and maintain them has been lost) they interfere with the gellar field, causing it to flicker off at random, practically guaranteed that sooner or later the ship will disappear in the Warp, its crew twisted beyond recognition or slaughtered by daemons.

It wasn't just the repulsive that had that problem - most of the ships of the gaerox perogative and the concurrent classes at the time (age of apostasy iirc) had that design flaw in their warp engines, which is why chaos warfleets are mainly of those classes of former imperial ships.
>>
>>46163925
Depends on the ship. Desolator I believed had the same flaw as Repulsive. Carnage and Hades had some sort of architectural flaw (possibly purposefully planned by heretical tech-priests) that would drive the crews mad. Despoiler was built on the blueprints of the Death Guard battlebard Terminus Est, which unsuprisingly turned out to be a terrible idea.

Some others, like Slaughter and Acheron were prototypes or use technology Imperium can't reproduce anymore and so are only found in Chaos fleets (Acheron in original fluff was an unique vessel, while the Slaughter uses high-powered engine coils the Imperium can't make anymore), while others like the Murder weren't particularly noted to turn to Chaos but were eventually phased out of common use by the Imperial Navy, so are now mostly found in reserve fleets or in hands of Chaos (Murder was the IN's primary line ship before being replaced by the Lunar, and their sheer numbers meant a proportinal amount also turned to Chaos).

Many of the admirals of Gaerox Perogative also turned traitor when they lost the fight to their opponents in the admirality (who favoured the "lots of big guns" approach of ship design over the "attack crafts everywhere" approach of the Perogative), taking their ships with them.

Has anyone here shopped from Aliexpress? How is their quality of model/shipping? They've got recast battleships and I want them.
>>
>>46164659
The quality is good, but be prepared for some warped parts - nothing a quick dip in boiling water and some straightening can't fix. Also, vent tabs are prominent and a pain in the ass, especially when it's attached to some flimsy and important piece. I'm finishing up the Chinese Brokeback Oberon right now, and can post photos for folks when I get it to a presentable state.

>4 weapon slots QQ Battleships only have 3
You ever noticed that Grand Cruisers have more >raw< broadside firepower than BBs? The tradeoff is lower HP and no prow weapons for some crit immunity and better broadsides. They serve a different role than the battleships, and should be treated as such (as opposed to small BBs).

>>46162215
>>46162151
There's also a bunch of room to play with shit from FFG. I do agree that the Orks already basically have their own Grand Cruisers. But if you wanted to make your own, just pull the spine and prow weapons off of a 10HP "battleship" and give it a Brute-style ramming prow. Orky as fuck, does what it's supposed to, and adds an interesting option in the top end of the fleet besides the DeathDeala and her ilk.

>You do understand that the quality of the old GW metal minis was dogshit, right?
This, so much this.
If the hull was a single piece, the model was usually alright, but the guy they had cutting the models for the other molds fucked up BADLY.

• Battleship: 5 fucking mm gap in the tabs, spines almost universally warped 1-2mm, locking surfaces for the hull parts misaligned on literally every model between gun bays 2 and 3, misaligned locking surfaces on the spine, tabs on the engines .5mm too large on the left side, hole for stand drilled 1mm too large.
• Grand Cruisers - Ignored the original prow design and hired someone to shit it up. Hull tabs interface incorrectly with prow. Bottom edges of "Imperial"-style gun mounts nearly universally warped

• Voss Light Cruisers - So many undercuts they literally ripped apart the molds; the master was destroyed within weeks of starting production because they decided to make the hull and prow one piece (if they'd cast the prow separately it wouldn't have done that)

The AdMech ships go well together but look kinda shitty.
>>
>>46165770

>>46165914

Looking at the details there, it's actually pretty good for being Chinese. Those plastic cruisers could pass for the real deal if they didn't have those chinese casting tabs attached to them
>>
>>46165914
>Yes, but recasts are generally slightly worse than the originals AFAIK, and slightly worse than dogshit would be quite worrisome.
You don't have to run three half-mike brass rods down the spine of a resin Grand Gruiser or battleship to make it hold together tightly enough that a kitten sneezing won't instantly snap the prow half off. Filing and patching is way easier too. Your weapon bay and spine are warped? Boil a bitch for a couple minutes or hit it with a heat gun and straighten it out with a dish towel. Instead of spending forty minutes cursing and waving pliers at it.
Fins don't fit? No need for a fucking Dremel and an hour of your time, you can grab a dust mask and file it in a few seconds.

Also, the glue holds WAY better on resin than early 2000s GW pewter. They used a realyl nasty mold release back then, which had a tendency to "sweat" out of the model on warm days and trash your glue/paint. Even if you washed it.
>>
>>46165668
>>46165914
I've nothing to hand but they are quality resin castings. the only problems I've found on them are the very rare airbubble on a tiny pillar piece and natural inconsistencies that have come over from the original metal minis. they beat forgeworld and Finecast models into the ground for quality, although anybody who actually owns resin kits from companies other than GW will know what GW says is top quality is bottom barrel shit.

>>46166044
All you're describing are problems with the building process as a result of the material, though. It's a good advantage for recasts, sure, but what I'm curious and/or worried about is the quality of the actual details.

Once painted, will they be as crisp-looking as the originals or will they look muddy, rounded, uneven, broken, thick, thin or any other negative adjective?
>>
>>46162399
I hope Orks are fun. I just want to ram people and blast them from point blank.
>>
>>46166249
Why not simply buy the cheapest model you're interested in? That way you'll get to see if they are good enough for you or not.
>>
>>46166249
From what I've seen, the detail is slightly rounded and there's a small amount of bubbling. Like, less than Forge World small. If you're not literally holding it three inches from your eyes you're not going to notice hte former.

Word of warning though, the masts are a little more fragile than Geedub's, so you might want to cut off the nests and lights on the longer ones, drill them, and mount them on some wire (not that I didn't do that with my GW ones, but still). Also keep an eye on the really small and fiddly bits on battleships.

Here's one I got from Irene, the Light of Autism. Not done yet by any means (smoothing out the prow colors, details, etc), but aside from the fact that I assembled it all retarded, I'm very happy with it.

Irene's Repulsives have better "wing" detail than my GW Repulsive does.

Yes, the detail might be a little bit softer, but go look at eBay prices and tell me it's worth the difference.
>>
>>46167402
Let's see, what happened when I went to assemble it was:
>Assembled prow section at an angle, because speshul
> Installed the engines with the wrong tabs, again speshul
>WB's/Modules don't line up properly
>Kit had no turrets for the longest time, making it look and feel more idiotic

Seriously, it looked like it was built by someone with three fingers and one eye, and since the resin is too brittle to break and reset I just said fuck it and rolled with the punches.
>>
>>46167241
Man if I could only settle on a colour scheme I might actually bother assembling them all.
>>
>>46167631
I know the feeling. Only went with the brown because it was the first paint I saw. Worked out okay, I think. Gonna do the eagle and trim in gold, to give it some pop, and do a blue glow for the engines.

What ships do you have? Could try something other than the usual green/grey/brown for IN ships, and you could go batshit with Chaos ships.

I know man. For £30 I can get one of my 500 points lists or £10 for a cruiser and im tempted but they most likely wouldn't be used for games and just be sweet desk ornaments(if i got round to painting)

There are 2 sellers on there, but I've only bought from Irene. It's good stuff, I've never had a miscast. You'll have to clean up some flash and you might have some warped parts like >>46164766 said, but they're easy to fix with some hot water. A little time with a hobby knife/scalpel and small file will have them looking perfect.
I don't know about the other person, but Irene has also been in the casting business for a long time. She used to sell other recast 40k minis under the name MirandaIrene on there but it got taken down.

Anyway, pic related. I got these from a guy on ebay who got them from Irene.

The front half drooping is normal with the metal ones.

But you're right, it is a weakness that the WB modules aren't straight. The metal ships didn't have that problem because the modules were plastic.

I recently got a few Imperial Navy cruisers and escorts, and now I have to pick a paint scheme.

I was thinking about copying the great white fleet. Which would mean brass or dark gold for gun turrets and bridge superstructure, white with a few gold highlights for the prow and most of the ship's hull, and red for the lower part and the engines.

Would that work? Any advice on painting in general? I haven't actually worked with models in years.
>>

White is a pain in the ass to paint with. Go with a light grey instead.

The only people I've known who play TT gaming in real life were in some of the band kids high school, and we didn't run in the same circles. I've been to a few local comic shops that hold gaming events, but they play X-Wing and 40K.

I'm really anxious to try out Armada though once I get a new laptop. Never messed with Steam before but I hope the multiplayer environment will be pretty active.

>>
>>46169297
If you are using spray paint, then you might be able to go with white, or a light gray. For a light color scheme you probably DON'T want to start with black unless you are going to go over it competently and just use the black for detail. But even then you can just dunk it in a wash to get a similar effect.

I actually use a similar scheme for my generic Chaos ships. You need to be careful with the contrasts, though. The paler your "white", the darker the gold needs to be. I'd use a dark, ruddy bronze personally, with a pale haze-grey top instead of the Codex Grey I used (you can see how it's not really contrasting too well with the bronze in some areas). I'd use a grey undercoat if you're going with a whitish color, and use a "cold" or gory blue-red instead of orange-reds (a grey or black undercoat will tend to wash out the latter).
If you're going full-on white, undercoat her in white and use washes and glazes to pick out your detail - it's less heartache in the long run. You could even mask the central part of the ship and then spray the top and bottom with black primer if you want, it'll make the metals easier.
Also please ignore the cheeto crumb on the lances, I have no idea how that shit got there.

The graphics in this game are really peculiar. I mean, you've got amazing ship models on par with anything in a movie, but then odd shortcomings like the low-res texture on the armored prow and the weirdly transparent engine flare effect.
>>
>>46170774
It really depends on the direction DoW 3 would be going in. A proper sequel to DoW 1 would be very nice, while BFG:A is already superior to DoW 2 as a real time tactics game, as long as you don't really dislike naval combat.
>>
>>46170793
Also on some ships the engine flare just comes out between the two engines. (I think it was the transports).
>>
>>46170849
dow 3 in any direction would be amazing if only for relics top tier voice acting, and the last stand. though I'd prefer a bit of a mix between dow 2 and dow 1, with a bigger map, more troops on the field, but more customization of each squad and less micromanagement. (but also keeping with cover, vehicles with armor points, a more competitive feel)

>>
>>46171792
>Does anyone else think the whole "destroyed ships are replaced for free in X turns" is a cool mechanic to potentially use in a tabletop campaign game for whatever system?
The guys making the vidya are simulating a mechanic in BFG campaigns - Repair Points. Based on what you control and how famous you are, you get slightly more or less per campaign turn. You spend them to repair and refurbish ships, buy replacement Escorts, etc. That extra point from having access to a Forgeship is a fucking Godsend sometimes; I actually won a campaign because of it once (had just enough to recover my Dominator the turn I had to go beard an Eldar player in his lair, and it wound up killing his Haven Spire).

>Has any tabletop game used a system like that before?
It's extremely common in the /hwg/ community, there have been similar rules used back into the early days of Napoleonics to represent Reserves and replacement troops in long-running campaigns. The early systems were usually very abstract, sometimes just "this unit skips a game and comes back the game after". They only got weird and complicated once people started taking the operations-level aspects of wargaming seriously.
>>
>>46171883
Sure. I magnetize my ships to their flight stands. A friend magnetized his IN cruisers so every weapon module could be swapped.

>How do you magnetize a fleet?
Drill small holes in the gun bays, and insert magnets. The Lance decks are super easy to magnetize, since you can just drill into them, but you need to plug the back of battery and carrier modules. You can either glue a thin sheet of steel to the back, plug the hole with cheap putty (I use JB Weld epoxy), or glue on a sheet of 1mm plasticard with holes drilled in for the magnets. You may have to sand down the back of the carrier module a little, though I sometimes do that for looks anyway.
If you use the metal sheets you don't have to worry about polarity or matching all the holes up, although you often have to use an additional magnet on whatever you're sticking to it to guarantee a good hold.
If you're not using metal sheets, you >will< need to make a jig to make sure all the holes line up. That can be a simple as drilling two holes in a popsicle stick cut to fit the gun bay and pricking starter holes into the bay and weapons with a needle.

>Are there small enough magnets?
These are Magcraft doped-neodymium 1.6mm magnets. Compare to the lance bay. I got 200 for $11.
They come smaller; I got these to magnetize my Robotech Tactics models.
>>
Can you block enemy macrocannons in Armada by moving your ships between the attacker and their target?
>>
>>46172316
Unfortunately not at the moment. The debris of a wrecked ship will block cannon fire, so the code is obviously there.

I would guess they were having a hard time getting the AI to avoid friendly fire and removed that.
>>
>>46161725

>>
>>46172369

>>
>>46172434

>>
>>46172316
I've noticed that you can block lance fire (at least chaos lance fire) and the ship that blocks doesn't take any damage. Useful when defending on breakthrough.
>>
>>46172495
In TT, the actual ships are a tiny pinprick in the middle of the flying base stem, with the radius of just the small base being several thousand kilometers. Obviously, that wouldn't translate at all to vidya, so they decided to drop proper scaling in order to make an actually playable game.
>>
>>46172697
I know that. I was just wondering if trying to stay true to the mechanics of TT was why they don't have blocking. But then >>46172648 says that lances seem to be blocked. It's only beta anyway so some things are probably buggy or half-implemented.

>>
>>46174326
Upgraded ones are often underestimated. I lost one particular match to a guy who kept rushing forward with his every time my shields went down. Turns out they had AA microcannons and it was tearing me up while their main ship was tanking the damage.

And on transport missions they are game winners.
>>
>>46174380
I find they can be absurdly effective.

>get like six swords
>hide in dustcloud, bait enemy towards it
>emerge from dustcloud like a swarm of piranhas at point blank range
Especially if you do your kiting back towards said cloud with a BB or something that can tank hits, so the enemy has to choose between maintaining focused fire or swapping to new targets.

>>
>>46174741
I don't think there's a main list anywhere. Doesn't the Retribution at least have good range? I haven't unlocked it yet but it should have something like double the range of regular Imp cruisers.
>>
>>46174787
It has 6 plasma batteries, which have double the range of macro cannons and do half the damage

I prefer the other way round
>>
>>46174741
For the ship list, check this from the link in the OP. "BFG Rulebook" is the one you're looking for, ships start around page 150 : https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B-aXA8fc5AQ8fmpVUEtsb1IxcDM5M2pBZjVGcFM5MTlWejVqVkt4VXZzX3E1YWQ0OER5Vnc&usp=sharing (Can't upload it here directly due to filesize)
The main rulebook has all ships in the Gothic sector, which covers all of the vidya's Imps and Chaos (except for the Hellbringer), Orks and Eldar will apparently get some additional ship types not listed in there.

Also yeah, the Retribution already is the Imperial battery battleship, you're not getting anything with more raw dakka. BFG battleships simply don't have all that much more firepower than cruisers, their main deal is that they're more resilient and often have better range. For comparison, the TT broadside of the Retribution is exactly the same strength of the Dominator's.
>>
>>46174674
>Is there an imperial battle ship with macro cannon batteries?

TT doesn't differentiate between macro and plasma batteries. It has str 12, range 60 on TT, which is as good as the imperials get on battleships.

The only imperial ship with stronger macro cannon batteries is the avenger grand cruiser, with str 16, range 30.
>>
>>46174794
The split between macro cannons and plasma cannons is purely a vidya thing, to make it easier to distinguish between the short-ranged and long-ranged batteries. In TT the Retribution has a broadside battery firepower of 12, the same as the Dominator and twice that of the Lunar's or Dictator's macro batteries (excepting their lances and launch bays). The total damage values in the vidja should come out to pretty much exactly that, too.
>>
>>46174832
>>46174850
Thanks anons
>>
>>46174794
If you want damage go for cruisers instead. Imperial BBs all have good range but not that great firepower. I always preferred the Emperor anyway. It could dump more battery fire at a single target and could launch squadrons on top of that. Loses the dorsal lances though.
>>
>>46174862
They probably got it from the line in the Tyrant cruiser's description about "superfired plasma batteries" which give it longer range. It's one of the few times the type of weapon is mentioned as far as weapon batteries go.

And does the video game do a good job representing that size?
>>
>>46175419

>>
>>46175419
Sources are disparate, but the generally quoted number is about five kilometers in length for the average imperial cruiser. That puts battleships somewhere at about 8 kilometers.

The vidja does manage to convey their weight and mass pretty well, but usually there's just nothing on the battlefield to compare against, so it's difficult to get an idea of scale from that.

>>
>>46175563
Do you know if he is using GW or FW tau?
One of my fleets is FW tau and they can be dangerous. They're strongest from the front arc so out manoeuvre him with faster ships, more turns and lots of batteries as they're good at giving it but not taking it.

Using ad mech will give you plenty turrets, taking a carrier to throw out enough fighters to intercept his ordinance.
>>
>>46175616
He has a few models for the sleek ones (from FW, I think), so I'd guess he'll mostly take them. 1 of their BBs, and 2 of their 180 points cruisers. We'll have to proxy our fleets with chaos and eldar cruiser anyway.

So, something like this?
+50 Archmagos
+370 Oberon BB
+215 Tyrant CA
+215 Tyrant CA
+40 Hunter DD
+40 Hunter DD
+40 Hunter DD
+30 Cobra DD
>>
>>46175704
>3x Hunter DD
Gladius frigates, not Hunters. No idea why I put them on that list.
>>
>>46175704
I would get rid of the Oberon, tyrant and cobra that will give ~365 ish extra points. Take a Mars BC instead and take 4 dauntless light cruisers.

That way you can snipe with you Mars whilst spamming fighters and out manoeuvre his ships with quicker ships

His BB only has 8 hull points and his cruisers only have 6. So pound for pound you will have a more dakka and ships than he will.

This is how I would counter tau but have a little play around and see how you feel

>>46175890
Positioning: Where you can try to "cross the T" behind enemy ships as they have no weapons ther to shoot at you with. Other than that, the more weapons you can have going at once the better.
Weapons: Until the patch torpedoes are underwhelming. Personally I think that lances and Macrobatteries are pretty well balanced. You need to get in closer for your batteries to dish out their maximum potential though whereas lances can stay back more easily.
Targetting: I like to target engines first. Because it then gives you more control over what you engage and when, so you have the initiative to do what you want. After that for me it's generators or deck and then weapons. Mainly because in order to render the ship helpless you need to get rid of many more weapons so it's usually quicker to go for the deck/generator to mess them up earlier. Where the loss of a single macrobattery will just slow them down a bit.

Other than that, always try to focus fire. One vs one with ships of the same size takes an age to resolve, 2 or 3 vs 1 is obviously going to be much better for the team with more ships. And if you can kill one of theirs first you reduce the incoming damage making your life easier.

>>
>>46177028
are there any other things announced for the next patch? torpedo buffs?
>>
>>46177061
Yeah, torps are getting a pretty decent buff. They'll have a light armor-penetrating capability, treating all armour as 25 at the most, so they should be much more dangerous against capital ships.

Apart from that, there's a whole bunch of reshuffling going on with the chaos armament to standardise weapon classes and make their missiles more common. On the whole the it should result in a mild buff to their direct firepower. The Slaughter also gets a speed buff.

I'd ignore the other guy saying about using tons of magnets. Sure, they're cheap as anything, but rare earths are strong things.

For chaos weapons and imperial gun batteries, mount the magnet in the hull and just glue a staple or some other bit of steel to the back of the weapon.
For imperial lances, the depression in the back is less so you need to drill into the battery itself before you attach the steel.
For imperial launch bays, drill a hole through each side and stick a bit of paperclip through.
All is thereafter good, no polarity worries, and hundreds of spare magnets.

>>
>>46177322
It's a de-facto 50% damage increase against capital ships that aren't Eldar. That's a pretty big deal. Even with turrets, against a single cruiser on some distance it's pretty doable to hit with two torps at least, which would translate to almost 10% of its max hp. Hit with a full spread of 5-6 at close range, and that's close to a quarter of the hull gone right there.

With pre-patch numbers, those two scenarios would only work out to ~5% and 1/6th hull points gone.

Some highlights on the grey and it'll be max boss.
>>
>>46177941
It's not too dark, it just lacks contrast. Took me a second to realize the front plow is blue and the back is not. Setting some dramatic highlights could fix that, personally i'd go for a lighter shade of blue or a midnight blue with dramatic highlights and gloss varnish.
>>
>>46177941
Yeah, it is a bit drab, the dark blue of the prow doesn't contrast well with the rest of the body. Perhaps try a somewhat lighter shade, or something a bit stronger. The gold trim works very well, though, really pops out.
>>
are there other people that put abilities on autocast or is it just me? or do people not really know about it? I see everyone on youtube videos and shit casting their abilities one by one, missing out on a lot of shit.
>>
>>46178003
>>46178029
>>46178042
Yeah, was thinking of lightening up the prow a bit. Cannot think of another colour that would contrast well with grey and golf though...
>>
>>46178206
Some I do use on autocast, but a bunch of legitimately better to save up when needed. Stasis bomb is often best saved for moments when you need a breather or want to change the engagement distance. Lightning Strike/Boarding on autocast risks wasting them on escorts instead of the larger ship where they'd have more effect. Torps on autocast is just much too big a risk due to possible friendly fire.

So basically, the only things I usually put on autocast are the regular bombs (though I rarely ever take them anyways), the activated faster shield recharge, and the Cobra call-in.
>>
>>46178243
Blue in itself is a fine choice, it's just a matter of the hue. Consider either something a bit lighter like cobalt or azure, or something really strong like navy or admiral with some highlights to make it pop.
>>
>>46178263
Lightning or boarding strike is a good one to autocast, unless your doing data recovery as sods law you'll need that teleport just when the bastards getting away
>>
>>46178354
I'd put boarding on auto in stead of lightning strike. Boarding will happen if you're caught up close in a brawl, but when you get your whole fleet lightning striking that one poor bastard of a destroyer whose shields went down, it's a bit annoying that noone has anything to hit the battlecruiser.
>>
>>46178354
You'll also want to save it up on Assassination offense. Knocking out the target's engines and/or generator is a huge boon, and of course you'll also want them ready to interrupt the warp if things get that far.
>>
>>46178206
I put boarding, not lightning, on autocast. If they are that close, they deserve to be boarded. And if they are retreating away to warp out, I'll have someone with a lightning strike on standby and not blown before it's needed. Then any shield related abilities and favor abilities. I used to put torpedoes and bombs on autocast, but I've improved my overall skill and timing especially.

I'll put them on autocast for escorts I summon, and sometimes when I know I've already won.

On the other hand, I absolutely love the way ADB writes for example, even if I don't like the essence of what I'm reading.
>>
>>46178842
That's looking neat, consider doing some shading around the prow to give it some depth.

And yeah, I agree that it could do with some more splashes of colour to balance it. The whole engine/exhaust block is an obvious candidate, perhaps in a somewhat darker grey or just outright black. The blue could be replicated somewhere along the midsection, perhaps along the side "wings" and the broader part underneath the bridge?

Homeworld Anon here with some questions, if you folks wouldn't mind. While I wait for Shapeways to finish printing my stuff, I've been toying around with ideas for the various weapon systems that these ships are typically armed with, and I would appreciate some input.

The two biggest weapon systems used on the older fleets are Macro Cannons and Ion Beams. Later on things like Flak batteries and torpedo/missile systems were introduced, but I wanted to focus on the first two.

Macro Cannons are something I'm having the most difficulty with, oddly enough. Weapon batteries in BFG are supposed to represent large banks of weapons, all firing in one big barrage of explosives and death. HW ships typically mount single or dual cannons that, when scaled up, would be significantly larger than the traditional systems used in BFG.
I'm trying to avoid making things too complicated, but at the same time I want to represent the oddities of the faction. The biggest thing is that their kinetic weapons are disturbingly accurate at just about every range.

So my theory is this: Macro Cannon's are treated similarly to lances in that they have a flat To Hit number, but having it based on range to the target instead of armor value. This would be balanced by having each MC system have a lower than average number of dice to contribute to each attack. Exact dice I haven't determined yet, as I'm trying to see if this would even be feasible, let alone fair.

Does that sound too convoluted? I don't want games to devolve into rulebook checking every time you fire a ship. but I'm trying to give them some flavor without them being Necron levels of BS.

I'm just spitballing here, all suggestions welcome.

>I would have to take the mars as a reserve, so it wouldn't get that additional 60cm lance. I'm not too happy with that.
You can, however, buy a Dictator (255pts.), and upgrade it with a Nova Cannon (+20pt) and Plasma-Fired Batteries (+10pt); the end ship will have 3 turrets, an S1/60cm LFR Lance, a random Mechanicus Gift, and an otherwise identical profile for only 15pt more than a vanilla Mars with the optional turret upgrade.
So you lose one Lance and get a Mechanicus upgrade.

The Oberon is a solid all-rounder, but AdMech fleets do better with lots of cruisers than with a BB in low-points games; you've got access to specialty torpedoes and all dem lances, and your fleet numbers are already pretty shitty. Your Light Cruisers give you torpedo defense and they're super cheap (comparatively).

It can be worth it if you space them out and only risk a single escort. Once the enemy fleet gets closer, I’m sending the escorts back to wait for a good opportunity to pounce.

The tabletop was not. It covers the Gothic War and 13 Black Crusade, mostly.

The initial HH trilogy is a good read (Horus Rising, False Gods, Galaxy in Flames). The first one is probably the strongest. After that it’s all over the place, and they try to cover far too much.

I haven’t read them, but The First Heretic, Betrayer, and A Thousand Sons are highly regarded. Flight of the Eisenstein too, but I’m partly through it and it’s not grabbing me.
