There's also a lot of subtleties that modern readers miss because they're no longer familiar with the then-prominent classics, or the grammar rules of the time. If Shakespeare wrote a similar passage to the above, it would go something like:

"Ay, but, not as we could wish it so."

"Fie!
And if this is so, not as we would wish,

I sent thee for a swan, and thou bringest

In an humorous mix, given that much of Shakespeare's speech is so high because it was the manner of the time, there are several texts that recommend reading his work like a Mamet play.

3.x's balance was a complete shitshow.

PF was supposedly going to fix the balance issues, but they proceeded to ban everyone during the playtest that was actually pointing out that balance was still fucked, and did generally nothing to solve the issue.

4e managed to get something actually resembling game balance because they realized that the only way to fix all the shit baked into the system from day 1 was the gut it down to the d20 and rebuild from scratch.

On the surface, they're an ideal bio-weapon: they reproduce by using humans as incubators, which kills them. They also can't reproduce without host bodies. Scatter some facehugger eggs across a crowded civilian area, cause something else as a diversion and to increase chaos, and then boom- you have a Xenomorph hive wreaking havoc across your target area.

Give it some time and manage to isolate it, they run out of hosts and food, the hive can no longer sustain growth, and likely hibernates while waiting for more hosts. Then, you eliminate them with some chemical agent you've no doubt formulated to target their biology, and the area is now entirely sterilized of Xenomorphs.

Of course, other bioweapons are probably a lot more useful and, like you said, we've been able to cause similar devastation since the 1940's. Xenomorphs likely have certain terror/psy-ops aspect that over weapons wouldn't, but that's about it.

Lets just take a step back. If you're still asking these questions after realizing these are works of fiction, you're probably fucking stupid, but we're on 4chan so whatever, we're all stupid here.

1. Total war. The xenos aren't a tool to fight wars with, they're a tool to remove a fucking populace. They're an anitbody to the disease that is any race the xeno creator's deem a danger.

2. Abandoned Rifle. The encounters with xenos people have had in the movies amount to basically a gang of children discovering a father's gun. These xenos we encounter are not being used like a weapon, they're just sitting around, and yet they STILL are a fucking problem that requires rigid discipline to face, and in the end the victories are pyrrhic.

3. Proper setting. The aliens aren't meant to be activated on quiet, lonely space ships. They're not meant to find small isolated mining settlements on harsh planets with little to no life. They're meant to be sent into a populated area. Alien Isolation is the best case for how the aliens would have been used against an enemy. You have no idea what's going on, only that people are missing. Once the cause is identified, it's too late. The only option is full attrition in the vague hope it stops there and doesn't chain. Honestly the xenos ARE a disease. The comparison you make to smallpox is ironic because what cure is there to vet your populace of a xeno outbreak?
