It is 2,016 years since the Battle of Munda in southern Hispania; tthe final battle of Julius Caesar's civil war against the Roman Republic, and against the leaders of the Optimate. With the military victory at Munda, and the deaths of Titus Labienus and Gnaeus Pompeius (eldest son of Pompey), Caesar was politically able to return in triumph to Rome, and then govern as the elected Roman dictator.

In the wake of their defeats at Pharsalus (48 BC) and Thapsus (46 BC), the Optimates and supporters of the late Pompey the Great had been contained in Hispania (modern Spain) by Caesar. While there, Gnaeus and Sextus Pompeius worked with General Titus Labienus to raise a new army. Moving quickly, they subjugated much of Hispania Ulterior and the colonies of Italica and Corduba. Outnumbered, Caesar's generals in the region, Quintus Fabius Maximus and Quintus Pedius, elected to avoid battle and requested assistance from Rome.

Thus, Caesar was forced to move from Rome to Hispania to deal with the Pompeius brothers. He brought two trusted veteran legions (X Equestris and V Alaudae) and some newer legions (including III Gallica and VI Ferrata), but in the main was forced to rely on the recruits already present in Hispania. Caesar covered the 1,500 miles (2,400 km) from Rome to Obulco in less than one month, arriving in early December (he immediately wrote a short poem, Iter, describing this journey).

Arriving in early December, Caesar was able to surprise local Optimate forces and quickly relieved Ulipia. Pressing on to Corduba, he found that that he was not able to take the city which was guarded by troops under Sextus Pompeius. Though he outnumbered Caesar, Gnaeus was advised by Labienus to avoid a major battle and instead compelled Caesar to embark upon a winter campaign. Gnaeus' attitude began to change following the loss of Ategua. The capture of the city by Caesar badly shook the confidence of Gnaeus' native troops and some began to defect.

Unable to continue delaying battle, Gnaeus and Labienus formed their army of thirteen legions and 6,000 cavalry on a gentle hill approximately four miles from the town of Munda on March 17. Arriving on the field with eight legions and 8,000 cavalry, Caesar unsuccessfully attempted to trick the Optimates into moving off the hill. Having failed, Caesar ordered his men forward in a frontal assault. Clashing, the two armies battled for several hours without an advantage being gained.

Moving to the right wing, Caesar personally took command of X Legion and drove it forward. In heavy fighting, it began to push back the enemy. Seeing this, Gnaeus moved a legion from his own right to reinforce his failing left. This weakening of the Optimate right allowed Caesar's cavalry to gain a decisive advantage. Storming forward, they were able to drive back Gnaeus' men. With Gnaeus' line under extreme pressure, one of Caesar's allies, King Bogud of Mauritania, moved around the enemy's rear with cavalry to attack the Optimate camp.

In an effort to block this, Labienus led the Optimate cavalry back towards their camp. This maneuver was misinterpreted by Gnaeus' legions who believed that Labienus' men were retreating. Beginning their own retreat, the legions soon crumbled and were routed by Caesar's men. The Optimate army effectively ceased to exist after the battle and all thirteen standards of Gnaeus' legions were taken by Caesar's men. Casualties for the Optimate army are estimated at around 30,000 as opposed to only 1,000 for Caesar.

It is 28 years since the Battle of Afabet, a watershed event in the Eritrean War of Independence. It has also been described as the largest battle in Africa since El Alamein

The Nadew Command was part of the Ethiopian Second Revolutionary Army. Morale of the soldiers was at an all-time low, and none of the divisions "had even half of the numbers that would normally constitute an Ethiopian division – ten to twelve thousand men", quotes Ministry of Defense reports to state that there were 15,223 men in the three divisions.

The Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF) had attacked the Nadew Command a few months previously, with limited success. Eritrean losses have been estimated at 125 killed and 269 wounded. However, the Ethiopian side suffered even graver losses in the aftermath: on Mengistu Haile Mariam's order twenty senior officers were transferred and the commander of the Nadew Command, General Tariku Ayne, who had been absent from Afabet for medical treatment, was executed outside of Asmara on 15 February 1988. The death of one of Ethiopia's most prominent generals surprised even the EPLF, whose Radio of the Masses broadcast that the Derg had "cut off its right hand with its left hand". The Twenty-second Division was moved to Keren, and replaced with the Fourteenth Infantry Division.

By mid-March 1988 the Nadew Command had planned to launch an offensive campaign against the Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF); however, they were pre-empted by the EPLF. On the morning of March 17, 1988, the EPLF deployed troops on three sides around Hedai Valley to encircle the Ethiopian garrison. The first unit attacked was the newly arrived Fourteenth Division. Upon their attack, the Ethiopian forces began to withdraw but were cut off. The battle continued while the Ethiopian garrison from Keren tried to reinforce their position, which was thwarted by the EPLF.

The EPLF 85th Division was held up by the dogged resistance of the Ethiopian 29th Mechanized Brigade. It fought without reinforcement for most of a day until its commander gambled on a retreat to Afabet. Lacking time for careful reconnaissance before its withdraw, the brigade was halted when a tank and truck were disabled by Eritrean 100mm guns, the burning vehicles blocking the road. The Ethiopians were forced to destroy their weaponry to prevent them from falling into EPLF hands. Ethiopian aircraft even bombed their own troops. The commander of the Second Revolutionary Army came to the battlefield himself to supervise opening the road to Afabet "until he allegedly 'escaped on a camel' just before the fall of the garrison." Once the Ethiopian troops were routed in Hedai Valley, the EPLF stormed and captured Afabet. As the town was a major garrison the EPLF also captured a large cache of weapons in addition to those captured in the valley.

Killion estimates that by the end of the three-day battle, the Eritreans had killed or captured over 18,000 Ethiopian soldiers. Eritrean casualties were around 2,000. Eritrea would finally win independence in 1993.

"The significance to the Ethiopian regime of the loss of Afabet cannot be overstated. In this single battle, Ethiopia lost whole divisions of its best trained and armed troops. Worse still, it left behind a weapons stockpile that it had amassed to carry out what it believed was to have been 'a decisive offensive' against the EPLF. That 'decisive offensive' was being planned by Soviet military advisors. As it was, the EPLF, clearly outsmarting the Soviets, turned around the 'planned offensive' to their advantage. The Soviet Union had always denied direct involvement in Eritrea but was caught red-handed by the EPLF at Afabet by the capture of three Soviet military personnel (another one was killed in the combat)." - 'Review of African Political Economy', 1989.

haven't played bolt action for an year. did something change?
I am looking at the website now and I see new Fallschirmjäger and Grenadiers in plastic, which is the best kit of the two? because the models look really sweet on the preview (much better than the shitty germans I got a fgew years ago)

is there something planned for italians?
did they change any rules?
how are the scenario books? especially the normandy one

If you want to play a Fallschirmjager army, Grenadiers are pretty shit, true for the other way around too.

No changes, new scenario books.

Why would you get Grenadiers for a FJ army? Why would you get FJs for a Grenadier army?

I would make an entire new army out of FJ OR grenadiers, not both combined

I only have basic infantry but I'd really like to change them since I don't like the old models, I am asking which kit out of grenadiers and fj is the best one

I'd be muchly appreciative if whoever maintains the threadly mediafire could add it to the naval folder.

When I have some more disposable income, I'll pick up either the Regia Marina or the Marine Nationale supplement.

No chance in hell of the USN's though. Fuck paying around $100us. I'm too much of a poorfag to afford that.

Genuinely one of the nicest kits I've ever seen. The sculpts are pretty phenomenal and you get a pretty good range of weapons and poses.

Only downside is the one man at arms sprue. I'd rather it be more like the English box with more Knights and less infantry.

>no Lorica Segmentata in 15 AD
>implying there were any large changes in equipment following the Tetrarchy like that pictures implies
Picture really needs to be redone.
Only the Republican, Trajanic and Severan legionary are fitting.

I think the idea is that if you want lots of men at arms you buy the foot knight box.

That's good to hear though.
>>

Yeah, I think that'll be my next purchase. Gonna maybe grab the plastic light cavalry too.

>implying hamata is inappropriate for 15AD
frankly I'm not sure segmentata was even in use in 15AD

Does that image imply large post Tetrarchic changes? Between the 290AD (pre Tetrarchy) and 400AD the image only shows a major difference of hamata instead of squamata and a larger shield. Both are spear armed, have a rounded shield, a helmet and a sword.

Segmentata never really replaced Hamata at any point.
>>
>>46059197
Segmentata was already in service by 9 AD at least.
The entire division between Number 5&6 is rather arbitrary. Scale and Mail were always worn simultaneously. Essentially the appearance of a legionary didn't change much at all between 300 and 400 AD.
It would've made more sense to have a mid 3rd Century legionary in there instead.
>>46059277
That's another thing that bothers me about the pic. It implies 100&200 AD legionaries wore segmentata only while in reality they just wore a mix of all three armour types.
>>
>>46059115
Careful, the light cavalry are Wars of the Roses-era rather than Hundred Years' War.

You could probably get away with using that box more than, say, the mounted men at arms, but you might want to do a few head swaps or something from the HYW boxes to make sure avoid any armour anachronisms or whatever.

Oh ok, 6 years of use. I'd still argue Hamata is more appropriate.

The image isn't perfect by a long shot, but I'm not sure it's worth getting that bothered, most decisions of what to depict are pretty arbitrary anyway.

Getting back into the hobby just got a box of Perry's Euro Mercs.

Don't have any paints yet apart from the primer.

Could you guys recommend any decent boxset or bundle of paints I could buy to paint them?

Additionally I want to mount them on 25mm bases, how do I get about removing the small plastic stands they come with? Should I just use a scalpel?
>>
>>46072125
I would clip around the feet to get the stands off then use a file to get the rest.
>>
>>46072125
your best bet isn't to remove the inbuilt base, just glue them to the 25mm and use filler to build it up level.

As for paints, there's starter sets from Vallejo and Coat D'arms that are quite cheap.

For those of you who play bolt action, what do you find the ideal point size to be? My friend and I play around 1250pts but he plays soviets and already runs 17 order dice at this size of game and although we would like to add to our existing forces we also dont want to have to take a whole day for one game.

What's the best way to track unit stats in blucher, is it to laminate the linfo and magnetise it to the back of the base?

>>
>>46090733
It's usually pretty easy to remember unit stats but if you instead mean tracking unit elan personally I hate that idea, no one I know does it. Marking small boxes on the back of units that are all cramped together doesnt really work well in our experience (although we use small, 60x30mm, bases).
Some people use tiny dice to mark unit elan, some have little numbered markers and some have roster sheets they mark off.

Should I put this on, if I do, won't I need to change it to represent a different brigade, so would it be better to magnetise it?

I use a little coloured dot for corps and a number for the unit.
The only thing which (might) ever need to change is the corps, and that is easy enough.

Basically do whatever you like best, if you want a magnetized strip, do it. It wont be wrong if it's what you like.

I solo-played the Danube-scenario, using cards and so-far I quite like Blucher. I also enjoy seeing your miniatures and as soon as I´ve got more time for painting I´ll probably start assembling two small-ish forces, just for the sake of it and for the occasional solo-play (or games with the missus if she likes the game).

the only issue I have with solo playing Blucher is the MO uncertainty, how are you handling that?

I'm attending a 200 point tournament this sunday where I was planning on using my Austrians but due to French players dropping out I've volunteered to use those French instead, wonder what you think of the list attached if you have played around with the lists at all?

This is basically identical to the list I took to the last tournament 6 months ago, where I finished 4th, hoping for a top 3 this time around.
>>
>>46092257
MO is quite a big deal and in the two games I played so far I didn´t find a good way to deal with this, except for pretending not to know the current MO. Not very satsifying, though. Another issue is hidden deployment, which also doesn´t work very well.

As for list building, I´m still struggling with this issue, so I can´t really give any real feedback. From my (very) limited experience it feels as though there´s not enough heavy cavallry included, plus you´re a bit light on the artillery. On the other hand, a concentrated push of a large infantry formation is quite effective, too and usually (historically) a game winner.

Someone wrote a java program for this, if you are interested I'll have a look for it, the real tension and fun in the game is deciding which units to move, and it only works if you really don't know.

On the heavy cavalry front you are right, but I felt like at 200 points something had to give that and I haven't painted any Cuirassiers and the like yet. I probably should drop the allied infantry in favour of a second Light cavalry unit, but I just like the little bastards, they always seem to come through for me, something my cavalry historically can't claim.

I can guarantee only the Russian players will have more massed artillery than 3 at 200 points and that is because of their OP free ammo.

On the subject of Blucher lists, here's something put together for fun (and may possibly be starting something with my brother). Based off of the Saxon Corps that went into Russia, with French support. Probably not optimal, but I think it'd be fun to put together and play.
>>
>>46094178
I actually like it as a list, it has a break point of 6 which is decent and II and III corps are pretty nice.

In my experience you might find I corps fine defensively but a real struggle to use aggressively. moving 5 elan conscripts in the face of any cavalry will be a real pain too, 4 dice rerolling successes is not fun I can assure you.

It would weaken I corps a lot, but you might want to consider putting the attached artillery on the Line infantry, this way you would get the bonus shooting die in skirmish range whilst fresh (5 elan units get no bonus die at skirmish range as the bonus is applied before halving) and has the potential of using the skirmish trait. You could even ditch all the attached artillery in favour of a second unit of allied cavalry in that core, or adding a 4th unit of dragoons to III.

>>46093216
>I guess it depends alot on your local meta?
I think it does, but despite all the choice you will find that a lot of similarity in armies, especially for tournament play as 1) you need a jack of all trades army which can match whatever you come up against and 2) there are prizes and this seems to make people pick a bit more conservatively*, the fun armies don't seem to come out much.

*except for the ottoman player, he will be taking as many cavalry and conscript infantry as he can fit in his points allowance because he's come to the conclusion that you can't play the Turks conservatively. He's probably right.
>>
>>46094558
Thinking about, I think you're right about buying something else with the points. I'm just fond of the Saxons as a minor power - spiffy uniforms and an interesting little history, so I'd like to put them on the table (even if they'll be a bit hapless at times).

More cavalry for I Corps might do, if only so they have an effective screening element.
>>
>>46094607
Definitely go for the Saxons, I love an army with minor power representation.

I have a list drawn up for an early Prussian list I'd like to get in the future with all 6 of the Saxon Infantry allies taken, but I don't know when/if I'll ever get around to it.

OK, I two 300 point Bolt Action trial games last Monday and my clubs doing a slow-grow tournament starting mid-April and I decided to get in on that.

It starts at 300 points, so I was planning on using the list below, re-purposing some Secrets of the Third Reich models I haven't used in years:
http://boltaction.easyarmy.com/BAPrint.aspx?list=e88b9854-46e2-4f77-8cae-78dd4271e7d0

Is succumbing to the lure of making everything veteran a rookie error/cheesy? It is partially because I can easily run that list without having to paint up any extra models or fix too many busted models...

Later on down the line I'm going to get some dedicated minis and run them as one of the Indian divisions in Italy, but for now I'll use what I have.

Veteran 2nd Lt.- SMG- 65

Veteran Medic- Pistol- 30

Veteran Late War Infantry Section- NCO (Rifle), 2x Infantry (Rifle), 2x Infantry (LMG)

Veteran Late War Infantry Section- NCO (SMG), 2x Infantry (SMG), 4x Infantry (Rifle)

National Characteristic- Up & At 'Em

The tourney is mostly for learning the rules so annoyingly I'm not allowed the free FO until at 700 points.

Plan is to suppress with the Bren Gun section whilst moving up with the SMG section, which will be supported by the Medic.
The Lt. will hang about with the Bren Gun Section, hopefully using his SMG to put some pin markers on any enemies getting too close.

I think a largeish regular section with loads of rifles as your firebase would probably work well, especially if the LT is around to keep them going. More vets with rifles would work too.

Personally, I still take LMGs because of the historic TOE, but it depends on how min-maxy your local scene is. Just be aware that for the 20 points you pay for, you're basically just getting an extra 6" of range and one extra shot.

This could easily be a game of T-90

by the way have I ever posted this here? my modern skirmish game loosely based on 5.56MM and ostfront, T-90.

The rest of the rules are here, including full army lists for most US and Russian forces, and some other randoms like china serbia and syria? Its ridiculously fast play, with games lasting 3 or 4 turns max. Shit tends to die pretty quickly in a modern battlefield when everyone has tandem HEAT and AA missiles up the wazoo.

Some of the lesser army lists aren't complete... never really got around to researching the rest of the armies. The core stats were partial conversions from Rapid Fire, slightly modified for balance.

I don't love either list I'm afraid, break point 5 isn't my cup of tea for the Russians. I think you might be better off ditching the guards from the list at 200 points in favour of just solid Infantry and a break point of 6~

List 2 has cuirassiers as 16 points when surely these are russian guard cav and should be 15 points? this would put the list at 198, I'd drop the attached artillery and take 1 militia to get you a break point of 6, it's a little gamey I suppose but its a much stronger list.

Only a few of the Dragoons were based, two together on a 50mm square and two more on single 25x50mm bases.

I'm thinking of painting up at least a few of them for a change now that my Infinity collection is fully painted.
Are there any rulesets that could work well with these minis, potentially with a few more purchases?

Looking at Plastic Soldier Review, the dragoons are mostly accurate for 1812, despite being dated for 1815.
The Line Infantry are apparently some kind of abomination with pre-1812 jacket tails but post-1812 jacket fronts and various other issues along with that.
Still, they might look decent; I'm not sure, since I know very little about Napoleonics stuff.

So, any recommendations?

Considering Baccus for my Saxon/French contingent. Think French would work as Saxons? They wore similar uniforms, only issue is that the Frogs seem to only have one crossbelt and the Saxons wore two.
>>
>>46117352
depends on when, pre 1810 with the bicorne maybe prussians might be a better fit as the French bicornes have the cocade on it which I imagine the Saxons didn't have? Post 1810 I think the French in Shakos are definitely the closest match.

At 6mm you can just paint 1 crossbelt if you want and no one will notice.

Nah, it's just Bolt Action is the only HWG that's popular around here. We've got like ten players though. All the major players covered, and a few minor ones like me playing Finland.

Related: Simo Hayha does not seem to be pulling his weight, and I feel like I get more from a standard sniper team.

I will also be picking up some paints from my local store- turns out that with their 10% discount and no delivery costs it will be cheaper for me to pick the paints individually.

Caesar and Cleopatra are presenting their son Caesarion to his legions, who are cheering in congratulations. However the audience, as well as Legionary Titus Pullo (the cheering dude) and Centurion Lucius Vorenus (the stern dude), know that the child is actually fathered by Pullo, who fucked Cleopatra some time before. It is a great character moment between these two, as the cheerful Pullo plays along while Vorenus looks at him like "Why are you cheering, it's your fuckin' kid", and Pullo is caught out for a moment.

It was notoriously expensive and you could only really armour Indian elephants like the one in your picture, African forest elephants being too small to carry that much armour, possibly even too small for a tower.

Indian elephants were also the more expensive and difficult to get your hands on, of the two.

The Seleucid empire, which your picture represents I believe, was one of the richest in the known world in its heyday. They could afford not only armour for the royal elephant herd but also jeweled, silvered, and gilded armour and shields for a significant proportion of their foot troops by the time of Antiochus III.

The Ptolemaic empire probably rivaled them in wealth, but didn't hae geographical access to Indian elephants, so they (like the Carthaginians and romans) had to make do with the inferior African forest elephant.

As far as a specific price goes, I don't know, but it doesn't seem like it was too expensive for extremely wealthy empres. The Seleucids began to specialize in heavy armour, for cavalry (Cataphracts) and infantry (Phalangites, Thorakites), and they seem to have been able to afford it. This arguably became a disadvantage in battle against any non-Hellenistic army, especially the Romans.
>>
>>46141513
did they use the african forest elephant? I thought the carthages used the way bigger and more agressive plains elphant, that easily beats the asian elephants in size?

Alright, short dump of today's images.

Game 1 - Russians

I didn't get a lot of photos of this game, and even fewer came out decent but this battle saw my French defending against my opponents numerically superior army, 25 Russian units to 17 French.

>Image 1
In the centre of the field during the middle third of the match, French infantry and Russians stare each other down under the watchful eye of the French Dragoons.

>Image 2
Some plucky Russian Infantry had managed to get behind my lines, and onto the objective on the hill! Fortunately my infantry were able to return and oust them from this position.

This first game ended with 6 Russian units broken (break point 7) to 4 French (break point 4) in an extremely close and bloody encounter. Fortunately I was in possession of all 3 victory points and so scraped a close 16-14 victory.
>>
>>46143411

Game 2 - British
My second game featured a British army which afforded me the rare opportunity to outnumber my opponent, even if only by 1 unit. I was nominally the defender in this game but the game rapidly devolved into a desperate struggle over VPs in both deployment zones.

>Image 1
Early on in the game the British army is pushing hard on my refused right flank with 3 quarters of it's number. My I Corps is making it's slow march towards the British troops still defending their own VP whilst light cavalry from both sides prowl the centre looking to disrupt the enemy advance.

>Image 2
After a few cagey turns sizing each other up the British launch into a full assault on the French positions with reasonable success. In the middle by the ploughed field a fresh unit of British infantry is wiped out in a single combat by French Dragoons, a fantastic early result for my army. to the top of the picture my I Corps continues it's long march towards the British reserves.

>Image 3
A couple of turns from the end of the game the situation for the French in the bottom of the image is rapidly deteriorating, but they are still able to bloody the British noses. At the top of the image the fresh I Corps are starting to take the upper hand against the outnumbered British defenders.

>Image 4
The finished game. The French positions has completely collapsed at the bottom, however the British have been smashed just as hard around their own Victory Point.

I entered the final turn of this game with 4 broken units to only 2 British however I was able to break 3; a heavily battered unit in the ploughed fields by Dragoons, a unit of infantry in the forest holding the British VP by French Line, and a Spanish Cavalry unit with accurate long range artillery fire, to ensure I won yet another nail-biting game 16-14.
>>
Game 3 - Russian's 2
In my final game of the tournament I came up against Russians from the winner of the tournament in November 2015. Once again I was able to secure the role as defender in the hopes of forcing the Russian's larger army to come to me on my terms.

>1
Early on in the game Cossaks signal their intent by looking to sweep by my right flank. The Hussars to the left of my line of cavalry held a charge from Cuirassiers, a great surprise but typical of my cavalry who had performed excellently all day.
>2
The Infantry stare at each other in the centre, artillery having good success targeting the elite units of the French army.

>3
My cavalry continued their great success, Dragoons and Hussars combining to wipe out the Russian Cuirassiers on the right flank, whilst also charging and destroying a unit of Russian artillery. This forced the Russian infantry to hole up into squares and halt their advance.

>4
My cavalry returned from their charge to take up position on the hill, not willing to stay too close to the Russian ranged fire or the still remaining fresh Cuirassiers in the centre. Russian infantry in this time took the opportunity to advance against the French infantry.

>5
I don't have any photos between the last one, and this final shot of the game. The Russian Cuirassiers and Cossacks had got together to smash my weakened cavalry on the right flank and the Russian Guards had smashed a hole in the French centre.

This game was far from decided at end time, the situation on the right flank was becoming desperate for my cavalry who were being worn down by the quality of the Russian Cuirassiers and the numbers of the Cossacks. Despite this the Russian Guards were blown and most of the Russian Infantry which remained in the centre were Militia and regulars with strengths of 2 and 3 ready to be broken by my fresh I Corps entering the fray from the left.As it was we finished the game with 2 units broken apiece and a score of 15-15, a very close fought game!

Some interesting ones come immediately to mind. There are the "Thunderbolt Leader" games where you pilot an aircraft of varying kinds; and "Where There Is Discord", a strategic-level game covering the Falklands War.

It might be a good idea to do a BGG search for Modern-era titles in the Solitaire section

As someone working on a similar project my advice is focus in particular on manipular tactics for the Romans and on the way Hannibal used his cavalry superiority to defeat outnumbering armies, especially read up on Cannae

The Hannibal and the Punic Wars supplement for WAB is a must read even if you use Hail Caesar

Looks decent enough. You can use different grays like in >>46137750 to give your squads a bit of variety. You can also use different shades for that effect. I usually paint the pants in a different shade than the jacket and the helmet so the soldiers are not to boring to look at.

>new german kits

As in, new warlord germans?

They are very good. personally i like the grenadier box the most, because it gives the most options, but kit-wise, fallschirmjägers are newer and have maybe the better sculpts.
Blitzkrieg has the weakest poses in my opinion, but its the only box with a prone german body so yeah.
>>
>>46137713
Use a green wash/shade/ink (not sure how gw calls it these days) to give your grey a greenish tint.

>>
>>46160239
Hetzers were produced in 44 and 45. All german vehicles were painted in dunkelgelb (dark yellow) in the factory, starting in 43.
That means the chance for a hetzer to have been painted in grey is fairly limited.

started painting my bt-7 earlier today.

What color should i use for the uniform of the early war commander? Beige/khaki like for regular soldiers? Or did the soviets use a different uniform color for tankers?
>>
>>46162157
Tankers were almost universally in black/dirty dark grey uniforms iirc, Russians included.

Soviet tankers wore overalls, usually, but the color varied - there are pictures of them in a brown-kahki, a grey, and black. I've even seen some in a dark blue.

So you've got a fairly wide variety to choose from.
>>
>>46163146
Though the vast majority were black or dark blue.

Also blue seems to be mostly restricted to early war (so perfect for a BT7 of course)

Khaki color of tankmen uniform it's wartime production. Obviusly BT7 mostly losted to that time.

I think by the time the Hetzer was being produced the germans had switched to largely using dunkelgelb for their tanks.

Then again it's not like there aren't pictures of grey Hetzers and most of the pictures you'll find have them using camo anyway so whatever, you do you.

There were grey german tanks. They stopped making new ones in 1943. Hetzer production started in 1944.

You don't need camo actually, plain yellow is perfectly fine. (or green if it is very late war stuff)

No offense to you, but a late war tank in early war grey shows a lack of research and i blame popular computer games like blitzkrieg and world of tanks with their "all german units are equally grey" policy for most of these mistakes.

But don't worry, your tank looks pretty good painting wise, its just not historically correct, thats all.
>>
>>46164953
>here aren't pictures of grey Hetzers

Most, if not all, "hetzers" you see today are tanks from czech and switzerland and those were actually painted in gray. They were produced after the war though.

Don't be afraid with painting camo anon.

Most camouflage pattern were applied in the field by the crew themselves so literally everything is possible.

There were attempts to standardize the camo and paint the tanks in the factory but that idea was dropped very soon.
>>
>>46165148
Decals are looking sharp, man. If you want to take good pictures go make a light box out of cardboard, paper (white or gradient, or whatever), cut some holes and get some non-yellow lights.

Admittedly, I am one of those faggots that goes out of my way to make sure my guys are painted properly, but it just pisses me off when I see someone sperg out in a shop, just because a youngun' used the wrong shade of khaki on his men.

Wasn't there an article where a German veteran found it amusing how carefully people try to be accurate? Since they were applying paints meant to be diluted with oil using rainwater, dirty rags and sticks.

Its still childish to object to people pointing out clear historical inaccuracy in a historical wargames thread though.
