How many CCGs were actually good? Any games worth checking out even now? What dead games are still cheap to get into?

I'm just curious since I know so damn little about the vast majority of CCGs released over the past 20 years, and I'm in the mood to throw money away at ancient games I'd only play with a small group of friends.

This was literally the best CCG/TCG I ever played. Everything about it was fun, and every mechanic was interactive regarding all players. And it wasn't afraid of RNG when appropriate.

The Harry Potter card game was pretty sweet.

Arcadia: The Wyld Hunt. Fucking Amazing

Wyvern, VtM card game, and WtA card game.
>>
I like The Spoils quite a bit, but beyond a starter deck demo tourney at Gencon I couldn't get my friends to play it more than a few times and eventually ended up with all of their decks.

I'm not sure if it's actually dead or not though. I think it switched to a LCG and occasionally I see new stock at my FLGS, but no one I know actually plays it.

I also have two starters of Hecatomb but have no idea how to play that.

I REALLY liked the Dune CCG and the Babylon 5 CCG. They both played REALLY similarly, clearly one ripped off the other (though I can't remember who came out first) and then AGOT ripped them both off

Dune
>Arbitration
>Military
>Intrigue
>Dueling
>Weirding
>Reach 10 SPice+10 Favor to win

Babylon 5
>Diplomacy
>Military
>Intrigue
>Psy
>Reach 20 Power to win

AGOT
>Power
>Military
>Intrigue
>Collect 15 Power to win

they are VERY similar games, but I liked B5 and Dune a little more than AGOT.

I liked DuelMasters and its revival Kaijudo. It plays similar to magic.

Had some great mech porn for its pics, too.

I don't actually know if it's dead or what happened to it, but the Star Trek card game was pretty cool. Not the actual execution - a handful of cards are just straight up broken - but the space line, missions, and dilemmas thing was really interesting. The least like Magic of any of these games I've played.

(For those not familiar - each player plays 6 locations to form a shared "space line" that's used like a game board. Locations have missions on them, which you need to solve to score points. But you also have dilemma cards, which make missions harder, and you secretly put them under the missions at the start of the game. Actual gameplay consists of loading ships with people, flying them to a mission, and trying to solve it.)

holy shit they updated their site, it's looked like shit for over 10 years
>>
>>45954329
I've still got boxes of these in storage. MTG can rot this was my first and only CCG love.
>>
I liked the old Zatch Bell TCG. The non-random was interesting and the spellbook mechanic makes it feel like proto-mage wars.
>>
>>45954580
>The Spoils
GodDAMN do I ever miss that game. It combined so many good ideas, and then the dumbass corporate types in charge went and bankrupted themselves with ridiculous promises they couldn't keep because they underestimated the power of market inertia and overestimated their ability to draw in new players to sell to.
I drafted a bunch of times at my FLGS and enjoyed the shit out of it before the game went and died.

Not a CCG, exactly, but I liked Perplex City when it existed. It was a series of puzzles on cards that came in Booster packs with a larger ARG surrounding it that led to a cash prize if you solved it first.

>seven digit stats

How the hell does that work in game?

A couple of friends of mine in college bought our flgs entire stock of ufs at like 75% off. I got a chance to try it out then and loved it, would have grabbed some of my own had I known how fun it was. Dead game before I even got into it. Damn shame

You make me sad, but you are my nigger

>>45957975
I know I still have my cards somewhere, but I haven't seen them in years. You guys know you can play it online? I can't remember the url for the fucking life of me.
>>
What's the worst TTG you've ever played /tg/ ?
mine was probably the Dinausaur king one
>>
>>45962001
Anymore, Yugioh. Loved it back in the day, but the competitive meta is stagnating the game and killing off interesting deck themes before they even launch.
