What is the precise logic behind Magic Types receiving higher-level abilities as they gain levels, while Attack Types and Technical Types receive no scaling for their abilities?

Magic Types are more able to directly influence the story as they gain levels and attain abilities like "literally grant wishes" and "long-distance overland flight for the entire party in a game centered around the travails of travel" at level 7. This is in addition to the new combat options they receive. It is far from 3.PF-style "tier 1 wizards vs. tier 5 fighters," but it is still flagrantly caster-biased by later levels.

I would think that Attack Types and Technical Types should receive minor upgrades at levels 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10 and major upgrades at levels 4 and 7 to match the higher-level progression of Magic Types. What do you think those could be?

Primarily because the way magic works in the game means there's way fewer things to really break. You're still dependent as fuck on your party.
>>
>>45936122

That still fails to address why their type alone receives higher-level abilities as they gain levels while the two mundane types have no higher-level abilities.
>>
>>45934759
I don't think that happens in Ryuutama
>>
>>45934759
I've only browsed the system but I think looking at powerlevels in this game is doin it rong.
>>
>>45938324
If power levels hardly matter, then why do Magic Types receive higher-level abilities while the other two types do not?

What is the need for such a thing?
>>
>>45934759
>and "long-distance overland flight for the entire party in a game centered around the travails of travel" at level 7.

That seems like a shit ability in a game that's all about having encounters along the way, no? Or rather like something you'd use rather than risk a party wipe.

It is more narrative power that only one Type gets access to by level 7.

Why does only this Type get extra options for narrative power?
>>
I'm not sure what you could do about it. Like others in this thread, I'd never really thought about it as a problem. Most of the spells in the book are more support based, giving bonuses to the entire party, including the wish spell you mentioned (which explicitly states that the GM is given full discretion over what, if anything, happens as a result).

In addition, at level six PCs can gain an extra type, thus gaining access to all the benefits of magic, if they so choose.

I guess if you *reeeeeeeally* want to change it, I'd give the Attack types more HP, or damage, or a bonus on condition roles, and give the Technical types extra carrying capacity, or additonal bonus to their concentration roles. I'd make all benefits for both types temporary and at will, and would associate MP costs for them (give them something to do with that stat).

That, or just restrict access to the spells that you find most problematic.

This is still more narrative power and flexibility exclusive to the Magic Type at higher levels.

>In addition, at level six PCs can gain an extra type, thus gaining access to all the benefits of magic, if they so choose.
"You can now be a Magic Type yourself if you were not already one before!" is hardly a solution.
>>
>>45934759
I'm sure this game is cute and all but I can't shake the feeling that the cover illustrator did some bestiality porn I jacked off to once and now I must make you all feel as uncomfortable as I do.

>"You can now be a Magic Type yourself if you were not already one before!" is hardly a solution.

I think that this is an appropriate solutions since., as you note, level 7 seems to be where there could be a significant difference in narrative influence.

I would still argue isn't really a big problem in a game as focused on the good of the group as this one, especially since mages are a bit fragile in the early game. It's a chance to be more useful to everyone, not a chance to take control of the story. If you don't trust the folks you're playing with, why play with them at all? Especially in a game like Ryuutama.

If you still would like to change things, what did you think of my suggestions? Or you could attempt to adopt some of the optional rules for roles here:

Something there ought to suit your fancy.

>Why does only this Type get extra options for narrative power?
Because Ryuutama is not a narrative game and nobody gave a shit about "narrative power" when they designed it.
>>
>>45940889
"Narrative power" is something that exists in every RPG. It is a given player's ability to directly influence the story using the tools they have at their disposal.
>>
>>45940989
Yes, and like I said, nobody was thinking about it when they made this game. That's why one option gives a character more of it than the other options.
>>
>>45940566
If it makes you feel any better, I know the artist you're thinking of, and this is almost definitely not it.

>>45934759
what is ryuutama?

If Miyazaki made an RPG, Ryuutama would be it.

>I even didnt know that such application exists.
It's starting to slowly grow because it's got more continuity than IRC while sharing a similar architecture. Also doesn't force people to register.
>Looks interesting.
It is. Ask in #on-topic if you're looking for a game. Of course it's even better to just talk with people, introduce yourself and just kind of get to know other other folks. It's how I got into two new games with really great GMs.
