What would you think of a fantasy setting that resembles the D&D standard, except that within the past 50 years or so it's become the popular fashion for dragons to slum it among humanoids, with some minor magic to get around on two legs and fit into humanoid buildings and so on?
>>
Well unless the dragon population exploded in the past century it'd be extremely rare to even meet one. But if so then it'd be like having a civil house guest, except that if the house guest gets mad or angry you risk having him kill everyone in the neighborhood.
>>
It's a trick, they're after your gold.
Yes, the sovereign under your mattress and the change that fell behind the sofa.
>>
I think it'd make a great fanfic, you should get to writing it. Don't forget to make sure that your self insert has sex with all the dragon ladies.

>Well unless the dragon population exploded in the past century it'd be extremely rare to even meet one.

How many dragons are there in D&D or Pathfinder, anyway? You'd think that even with very slow population growth, there'd be a ton of them because they live for 1000+ years and can start having children (chicks? pups? what would be the word?) at 25 or 50 or something.

Do the adult dragons all kill most of each other in territorial disputes or something?
>>
D&D dragons already do that, they just look like humanoids instead of gross furries.

You disgust me you cloaca fucking freak.
>>
>>45524968
Most dragons actually die before reaching past adulthood. A slew of dangers ranging from pesky adventurers and rival dragons to lack of food and collapsing caves have kept the dragon population growth to nearly 1%.
>>
One question. Would they participate in a dungeons and dragons game?
Also would they fuck in humanoid shape?
>>
>>45525172
>would they fuck in humanoid shape
That's why they took that shape in the first place, to get some strong human warrior D.
>>
>>45525172
Don't be silly. The game people in D&D settings play is Cubicles & Careers.

>>45525113

Wouldn't that mean that young dragons who mingle in a more-or-less friendly way with humanoids and spend their time around them instead of around other dragons have a higher survival rate?
>>
>>45525425
Yes and no. The ones who are around people that tolerate friendly dragons are more likely to survive than the ones who are around people who've lost everything from dragon attacks.
>>
>>45525425
>>45525474
>dragons start evolutionarily adapting to live among humanoids

And then HTTYD.
>>
Absolutely. In fact, it's totally something I'm willing to do in my setting.

In my setting anyway, dragons are agents if the office of heaven. Or also called the divine bearuccorcy. They are trying to keep the world working, and they can fuck around with humans all they want as long as they don't threaten the status quo too much.

The question is; what sort of traits should a half dragon human have?

Dragons would, as in other settings eventually end up controlling everything unless heavily kept in check.

>>
>>45525964
Now I'm reminded of the whole Orion slave girl thing in Star Trek, where they retconned in that they were actually controlling people via pheremones.

Like, dragons being seemingly a sub-class among humanoids, used for manual labor and the like but actually having substantial influence in the background.

Should have been more specific.

In my setting all the humans look almost totally human, though there are weird hybrids like human x demon or dragon or even something weird like moonlight.

Dragon people would have some minor tells, maybe angular features, weird eye color of the dragon parent, maybe even colorful birthmarks, but I'm looking for something a little less obvious.

This makes more sense if they were cursed to be that way, I believe. Then maybe they realized that gold was overrated.

This is basically exactly what happened to dragons in the setting of the sitcom I'm writing, minus the two legs thing.

Population stability is never really addressed in most settings, and its always a matter of how the dragon interacts with the local ecosystem.

Dragons as the manipulator-mages in a huge lizard body never really make much sense in as much that it implies a strong educational and social foundation in a race without tools that is antisocial. Dragons as angry, reclusive land-sharks makes more sense, so long as their lairs are well hidden and they don't cause so much trouble that it draws military attention.

I guess you could make them more social, but then you'd be talking more of a species that functions like pack hunters, where every so often a niche of them go out to collect food for the young and the elderly (the young because they can't hunt, the elderly because Dragon's get lazier as they age). They keep their population up because they don't over feed and because following the hunting party back to the roost means you're going to wake up one or more very old, very angry dragons, who themselves are such a nasty force to deal with that you want to make sure the peasants don't lose too many cows, but you don't piss off the elder dragons so much that they torch half the country in retaliation.

How will you handle this situation?

There was another thread recently with a female dragon who was bipedal. I believe she was a black dragon and was in a large grassy field.

Anyone have the image? I forgot to save it but I swear it was around here like 2-3 days ago.
>>
>>45524655
Not highly I'm afraid to say. It's just seems like it's contrarian for the sake of being different without thought to motivations or consequences. Would rather see Dragons forming a strange Oligarchy and settle deputes by debate and have stakes in most humanoid cities crime syndicates.

>all the humans look almost totally human

wut
>>
>>45530728

Half human half demon doesn't mean they look like tieflings, instead they look like humans but a little creepier or with dark hair and eyes and pale skin.

Half human half nature spirit don't look like dryads or like they are made of wood. They look like peaceful types that butterflies flock around and have flowers in their hair, etc.

The human hybrids look mostly human, only a few secondary or hidden traits are inherited from the nonhuman side of things; this is done on purpose so human society is more realistic and wouldn't instantly start being xenophobic against each other and shit, because if they looked significantly different from a normal human they would not be able to function.

So, Dungeons and Dragons, but with dragons all over the place constantly interacting with you to the point that all the mystery and fear of their kind if lost, and leading to a general over-exposure of all aspects of the setting, until the magical becomes mundane, and you lose interest in fantasy all together, not just rpgs, but video games, books, and films as well, until what was once your favorite type of make believe is about as original and engaging as an egg salad sandwhich?

Or in other words, every fucking Dungeons and Dragons game ever?

You can't obviously murder that guy directly. You have to go the indirect route, that takes years in preparation. Also that situation is only possible because there are only a few dragons, otherwise, there would be a lot more rivalry amongst them.

It's set in a fantasy version of modern-day New York, and follows a young wizard at his first real job. He's a magical engineer for a wand corporation, which, as the name implies, makes wands—limited-use magical spell dispensers, apparently.

The main characters include:

>Kelvin, the protagonist, a 26-year-old human wizard with a first-class wizarding certification.
>Rade, a 28ish dragon warlock.
>Alexia, a 22ish goblin secretary.
>Ronwind, the elven accountant.
>Renibus, a 50-something Dwarf. He's fat, drunk a lot, loud, and their boss.

The plotlines are then a mix of standard sitcom fare with a twist and more high-concept fantasy stuff.

Here, have a (incomplete) list of episode ideas:
