Lich and werewolves guy here, I'm considering fielding snake people as werewolves to fit the style of my army, what kind of minis is there ?

There an ETA on the new warpath etc stuff such that things will be back in store? I kind of wanted to get some Veermyn to kitbash in with some existing ratkin.
>>
>>45442308
March

Most of the Kickstarter stuff comes out in April however
>>
>>45442302
Look at the Ophidians from Cadwallon. They are the appropriate size and are decked out enough to make sense next to a Lich King.
>>
>>45443577
Forgot to mention, it is unlikely the the current models will be replaced going off of what was shown on the Kickstarter.

Can someone give me a basic rundown of list building in KoW? Looking to throw my chaos warriors into a varangur list.
>>
>>45450339
Here is a list builder
kow2.easyarmy.com

basically, your units are either troops/regiments/hordes/legions, or they are Heroes/Monsters/Warmachines

for each Regiment in your list, you may take 2 troops and 1 hero/monster/warmachine.

For each Horde/legion in your list, you may take 1 hero, 1 monster, and 1 warmachine (instead of having to choose one) and 4 troops.

In practice, any WoC army will fit right in as they have enough non-warmacine/hero/monster units.

I'm actually going to be asking in this thread for Ogre advice if you want to see how it works.

You can ally in 25% of your points, but no mixing good and evil.
>>
Can someone help me figure out which units to use my WHFB models as?

I own the following things-
18 Ogres with Shields(bulls with ironfists)
8 Ogres with heavy armor and Great weapons (Ironguts)
3 giant wolves
1 Slaughtermaster (wizard/lord)
1 Firebelly (wizard)
1 Golgfag Maeater (melee lord)
2 Rhinox Lords (50x100 large cavalry)
3x Leadbelchers (boomers or shooters)
2x Ironblasters (rhino chariots with cannons,50x100 base)
1x Thundertusk (100x150 mammoth)
Inifnity red goblins on foot.
1 gigantic worm monster.

Do I have enough models for a 2000 point Ogre list?
What should I use half of my stuff as?

Ogres with shields-Warriors
Ogres with heavy armor and great weapons-Siege Breakers
Giant wolves as Red Goblin Scouts(They are supposed to be riding wolves after all)
Slaughtermaster-Warlock
Golgfag-Warlord
Rhinox Lords-Chariots
Leadbelchers-Boomers
Ironblasters-Chartios+magic item to represent cannons
Thundertusk-Mammoth of course
Gnobblars are just goblins
The worm could work as a giant, but would make more sense if you allied with Varangur for their giant worm

Easily at 2000 points, with some room for some magic items.
>>
>>45452270
I had most of this kinda on assumption, but I'm not sure with the Rhinox Thunderlords working as chariots. I was assuming more of a warlord/captain on mount/chariot deal.

as for the gigantic worm, It's too big to be CS(1).

What's the biggest monster in KoW?
>>
>>45452581

Right now? Probably the Greater Obsidian Golem by mass/volume/overall dimensions, or the newer Dragon by height/width (spear/span of wings).

Both on standard monster bases (75x75mm).

>wanting round bases for ranks-and-flanks gameplay
>>
I'm finding I have such intense hobby ADHD when it comes to this game.
I have enough random minis for 2 full 2000 point armies, one of which I could probably put to the vicinity of 3000 points if I put absolutely everything down.
I just keep thinking of ideas for other armies though- I started ogres, I started Basilea, I'm planning out a herohammer Undead or nightstalker army.
I love how much freedom this game has, but it's just made me go mad with power.
>>
Anybody working on papercraft printouts yet?
I would but I really, really don't have the time. I haven't even had time to play since 2015. Let alone paint anything
>>
>>45472825
My warmachines are mostly papercraft stuff. If you're really desperate you can just cut rectangles to the right size, then scribble the unit name and some stats on it.
>>
>>45472893
>you can just cut rectangles to the right size, then scribble the unit name and some stats on it.
I did.
I got called out and told to bring something better or go home.
I work 8 to 6 at the earliest and 8 to 9 or 10 at the latest, then taking care of sibling.
I ain't got time for the hobby part. I just want to stop in and play.
>>
Just started playing... have played three games with Goblins, one against Elves and two against Undead. Undead seem to have better, cheaper hordes and legions. Am I missing something? Or are Goblins just scrub tier? Trolls are sweet though.
>>
>>45457576
is that on a 40x40 base?
>>
>>45473022
Yes
>>
>>45472934
Goblins are supposed to wipe the board with the right list. They've got the cheapest screens of any army, then they've got hard hitting nimble units, decent cavalry, some of the best warmachines for the cost (more easily destroyed thus discounted yet a warmachine is generally dead as soon as it's under attack anyway), and can put out an impressive number of decent medium heroes.
If you like trolls, try pairing them up with a bruiser hero (nimble flank), and decent monsters too.
Everything is so cheap you'll always have a couple extra units on the board, if not many more, which is a huge advantage even against other swarm-capable armies like undead.

What they really lack is performance infantry (excluding large infantry), they're pretty much all chaff and flanking by sheer numbers. So just don't build a list around expecting all sharpsticks to do the work.
Of course you could always take Allies with orcs or others if that bothers you.

What's your current list look like?
>>
>>45473159

Currently using mostly sharpsticks. I was hoping to just flood the table with mans. Running bolt throwers and wizards for missile support. Not tried Troll Bruiser but that looks like a must have.
>>
>>45473187
You can flood the table, but it's always more efficient that the hammer flanking is better at that than the anvil unit. Nimble, flying, cavalry, etc

Phalanx units you don't need nothing-but. It's a waste of points, the extra 5 attack looks tempting but it's a pretty small boost on a Me 5+ unit. You're really paying extra for the Phalanx. If you went against an all cavalry army, with cav that's more TC than CS, you'd do pretty well with a flood of phalanx units. Save the 20,30,50 points and have more rabbles instead. You only need just enough phalanx units to engage or re-direct the cavalry, and then you just need to be smart about deployment.
Now I see why you were saying they're too expensive, if you had mostly Sharpsticks. Personally at 1500 pts I've got only 2 phalanx regiments, but it depends on what you're playing against.
>>
>>45473232

This is great advice anon, thanks.

I was put off hordes of fleabags because of that massive frontage. Would you run fleabags at regiment size?

Anyone have a cheap source of bolt/sharpstick throwers? Mantic's is more expensive than GW's on ebay.
>>
>>45472911
Then play with better people, who honestly gives a shit what someone else wants to play their imaginary army game with
>>
>>45473266
Fleabags as regiments are better for flanking by footprint, hordes you can run up front since they've got about enough nerve but you may want to screen them since their De is squishy. They can demolish stuff with 14 average hits and De5+ max. The more specialized option for rip&tear flanking is Mawbeast pack but they're even squishier.
With Nimble the advantage is you can get clever and pop up where you're not supposed to while not paying out the ass for Flying. With Goblins you really gotta be clever with pop-out surprise buttsecks nimble units.
>>
>>45473326
>who honestly gives a shit what someone else wants to play their imaginary army game with
The ex-WHFB population, apparently.
So many High Elf armies.
I'm the only guy who actually bought Mantic stuff. They make me regret it, aside from the fact I don't have time for painting/basing/etc.
>>
>>45471233
I'm the same (with less minis) I get more fun making my armies than playing the game right now (mostly because not a lot of people to play with in less than 75 km).
>>
>>45468383
The official skeleton sprues come with some, which can probably be bough loose from bundle of bitz

Dire Wolves of course

Also Reaper sells plastic barrow rats that would be a good idea
>>
>>45475400

>>45479595

>>
>>45481106
They've moved to a new warehouse about a year ago (third move in 3 years), they should be much getting better as this one has all the capacity they need for the next couple of years at least.

We'll see, they're gradually getting better and the last couple (e.g. Dungeon Saga was very good), but Walking Dead (especially) and Warpath should be their real chance to show off whether they've learned their lessons.

Kings of War is a quick, well balanced game that is being currently supported by a great company who cares more about making a good game than stealing your wallet. Games take about thirty minutes from start to finish, and are exceptionally well balanced to the point where most army lists are viable just so long as you don't go and make a gimmick list.

Pros of the system:
>easy to learn
>rules are tidy
>every army is balanced
>games are short but not too short
>the game is based around units as opposed to models so you don't spend nearly as long picking up individual models when you move units or taking away causalities as your unit suffers damage.
>the game is well supported by a nice company
>the game encourages you to use whatever models you enjoy, just so long as they fit the spirit of the unit
>it has chaos dwarfs.

Cons of the system:
>Some of the official models aren't great. They're getting better though, and the current model releases have quality and aesthetic roughly the same as early 2000s GW
>The rules can be a little overly streamlined. If you play wargames for the simulationist aspects, then you may be disappointed
>The fluff was something of an afterthought for KoW. It's similar to WHFB in that it's clearly intended to be loose enough to condone your own personal fluff, but things are currently loose enough to be to the game's detriment. Mantic has said that adding better fluff is one of their top priorities at the moment however.

>Why should I play this instead of warthrone or 9th age?
It's not mutually exclusive anon. A better question is, as long as you have other players, why not play all three with the same figures?

But as to what Kings has to offer:

More streamlined, in a good way.
You get very satisfying "ranks and flanks" gameplay with Kings of War, with a more restricted list of special rules and spells that nevertheless are enough to represent the majority of what you want to see mechanically and give flavor to your army.
They have a lot less granularity than Warhammer 8th, but you don't really need it for a game like this. You have rules for ~12 units rather that for ~160 models.
You can have a satisfying 2000 point game in an hour and a half.

Multibasing is awesome and saves you time and money, while giving lots of potential for nice diaramas. Also once you've played without individual figure removal you'll hesitate to go back.

I can also say that I have gotten friends, who had never before played a wargame, to play KoW without needing to refer to the rules by turn 4, while hardened grogs are still able to discuss tactics in some depth.
>>
>>45491161
>some

I bought a box of dwarves, and the warpath starter box since it was on clearance at my flgs, and friend.

Friend.

Jesus Christ almighty friend.

I suppose I just worry that It's too simple. I haven't done much but flip through the rule book, but it seems almost all strategy is found in the movement phase, with little to none in combat or list building. I do appreciate the fact that I can use some miniatures I can't find any other use for in this game though.
>>
>>45484127

honestly how could you possibly know that if you aren't a shill?

Sometimes you guys tip your hands and it's fairly obvious this is just a viral marketing thread full of Mantic employees. This thread has been around since monday and has a third as many posts as threads that have dropped off since tuesday.

someone literally bumps this thread back from the brink every day at least once. that kind of dedication should really only come from employees. if you're actually just players doing this, it's organized enough to be fairly alarming in the level of autism it implies.
>>
>>45491204
> it seems almost all strategy is found in the movement phase, with little to none in combat or list building
There's never been any strategy in the combat phase though, you just roll dice and they tell you what happens?
And that's pretty wrong that there's not much to list building. It's harder to fuck up royally than WHFB, but there's still a fair bit of depth.
>>
>>45491646
>honestly how could you possibly know that if you aren't a shill?
Because they are posting it on their dev blogs ?
>>
Bumping to fuck with the GW shill
>>
>>45491030
There is nothing stopping you from doing all three. I use Chaos Daemons, so I can even play 40K with my army if I wanted to. Warthrone is neat, but they kind of fucked up the rules recently. 9th has some love, but again the balance really isn't there. I like KoW because of how thoroughly playtested it is and the support that they give it.
>>
>>45491030
