It really is the perfect Star Trek parody. The kind of parody that shuns cheap humour, and instead delivers something that is such a great homage to the original that I still find it hard to believe Hollywood actually made it. It not only pokes fun at the series, but much more at the phenomenon it has become.
>>

Sometimes it's hard to believe that this was someone's campaign. Then people devolve into rambling and the world is nonsense for a bit and it's all too easy to believe that this was someone's campaign.

I looked this thing up. The concept is an idea I had for so long, and now someone did a shit version of it apparently. Lets just hope that marines sent to ancient Rome thing works out.
>>
>>45340116
what?
>>
>>45342399
From what I hear most of its shittieness comes from how much of it is Japanese Military Wanking.

Like the scene where a Japanese spec-ops team is able to beat their American, British and Russian counterparts all at once. And the Americans not knowing that the Japanese has special forces when said special forces are trained by Americans.
>>
>>45342471

Don't forget to mention how the world's greatest super-powers, with close to a century of spec-ops and proxy based warfare, somehow managed to have spec-ops teams so incompetent as to not have night-vision goggles in a night-op in unfamiliar territory.

Oh, and also how the JSDF managed to identify the American spec-ops soldiers because one of them was black and "Only the Americans use black soldiers!"

God, the idea was so good before the retarded and down-right insulting Japanese imperialism ruined it.

Well, that and whenever it gets brought up makes me miss Nazi's in Fantasy Land.
>>
>>45342471

These individuals are practicing a German longsword tradition from the 15th century with blunt feders made by Castille Armory.

They are not sparring but doing a demonstration for the camera. In this instance the technique that is being showcased is known as "durchlauffen".

Grappling and disarms are absolutely allowed and encouraged in the original source material, depending on tournament rules it may be different as most tournaments have their own specific rule and point system.

That is all. :)

Yea, I enjoy GATE allot more than I reasonably should but if they had just toned this down it would have been allot better. Like im fine with the JSDF taking point on the whole millitary situation for convinence sake but I would at least expect to see a good amount of US support considering how they effectively own Japan's millitary.
However the thing which grinds my gears the most about it has nothing to do with the jingoism or poor grasp of geo politics but the fact that MAGIC exsists on the other side of the gate (and is even shown to work in our world) and no one seems to give a shit. The worlds scientists would be clamouring to have an opportunity to study it and governments would be fighting eachother to exploit it but nope 'muh natural resources' is all anyone seems to care about.
>>
>>45344238
>a good amount of US support considering how Japan is just a sock poppet the moment the US heard about the Gate.

Not even a 'Murrican and I can recognize this.

Then again, I get offended FOR the 'Burgers when Japanese nationalism and ideas of independence flare up, so I'm a bit biased when it comes to the most untrustworthy of all the Slants.
>>
>>45332584

This entire anime would've been so much better if it was from the perspective of the fantasy population who are being vastly overpowered by modern tech. Then the entirety of the story could be about them stealing technology, starting a technological revolution, and unifying all the other races to stop modern soldiers from wiping the floor with them.

Instead this anime just feels like someone hated fantasy and really wanted to wank off the japanese military.
>>
>>45344857
theres also the fact that its dense stupid lazy protagonist #345-678 in harem anime #20134

lets be honest harem anime are unquestioningly shit at all times
>>
>>45344931

I actually enjoyed tenchi muyo's various incarnations because the anime didn't try to be anything but that at face value. What bothers me is when seemingly interesting concepts get sidetracked so that the story can introduce a bunch of girls so a bunch of guys can go argue over who is "best girl."
>>
>>45344942

Nah, the worst part about Japan's nationalism is because they never admit any wrong doing, and believe themselves to be in the right no matter how disgustingly atrocious something is.

The reason it's a little hard for me to take seriously is the fanfiction part of the jingoism. As of right now the Japanese have a neutered military and a fiercely pacifist dogma that Shinzo Abe is trying to slowly erode in the face of rabid opposition And I don't even mind that. I'm glad our allies in East Asia are pulling their weight a lot more than most of the Europeans do. So the idea of Japan suddenly turning into #1 military imperial power is about as laughable as if you had an Indonesian, Egyptian, Turkish or BestKorea or Iranian jingoistic fanfiction about how they became the premiere military power. Japan stronk in Muvluv is perfectly fine because in that world Japan never left primacy as a major imperial power. It's as reasonable as jingoistic military fanfiction of the Soviet Union, the USA, the British back before 1940s, the Chinese in twenty or so years. Any fantasy that deals with the real world ideally needs some anchoring in reality to remain believable - strangereal instead of earth.

Belka strong

And then the rampant slaughter of the fantasy-folks by the Japanese reminds me of babby's first loading up a total war game and throwing hordes of peasants against super-elite top-tier soldiers. Then again I've always been more of a fan of the heroism of equals fighting eachother over romanticized retellings of Thermopylae or the Alamo.

>>45344931

I've heard Monster Musume is good, and I love Tenchi, but most harem animes are blah, yeah.

Lodoss war is my nostalgic favorite of my childhood. I loved how quaint and stereotypically high fantasy it was, that it had no stereotypical elements of an anime to it. Outside of silliness like Gate I'm glad the Japanese took so well to sword and board fantasy - heck Dank souls literally does it better than most recent mainstream WRPG companies have. Then there's that really amusing dungeon cooking one that is too great.

It'll show its roots as otaku pandering real quickly. My boiling point was the main getting himself captured by some knights after the slaughterfest of >>45332584 which MIGHT have seemed like him just not wanting yet another group gunned down horribly by Apaches until I say it was an all female knight order he went out of his way to essentially get captured and abandoned by his team.

See I was out BEFORE they got ridiculous with the nationalism because that shit told me it was about the cute girls first and anything remotely close to a good story last.

I like the core concept, but I'm also convinced 90% of Japan won't pull off a GOOD modern-military-in-fantasy-world story. The people who could aren't interested in that stuff.

Oriental Studies are a blast, especially when you can laugh at weebs sitting in the front row and how they are grabbing all straws to protect something completely artificial... but I digress.
The point is - this anime is playing on both realism (Japs being bunch of traitors with no concept of loyality) and late 19th century propaganda imaginary (mostly based around "Bushido" by Inazo Nitobe), exemplified by Nanashi and all his actions.

In short - if a layman can see what is part of academic discussion and you still ignore it, you are just a moron who tries to use shitty ad hominem in defense of extremely nationalistic creation.

>Nah, the worst part about Japan's nationalism is because they never admit any wrong doing, and believe themselves to be in the right no matter how disgustingly atrocious something is.

You could replace 'Japan' with America and you wouldn't have to change a fucking thing.

>>45332370
That was fucking impressive.

Different anon. Yes it does. After the hair dye washes out and you see him with red hair the kid directly calls him a 'gaijin'.

God, this just reminds me how awesome Fable could have been if it wasn't run by a bunch of snake oil salesmen.

Also not the anon, but Kotaro ASKS if he's gaijin... Jesus, can you tone down the implying? Because you are jumping to conclusion like crazy
>>
>>45372621

Conservation of detail. That question would not be asked unless the writer wanted the thought to come to mind.

You can have the fruitiest hair color imaginable and still be Japanese, but the moment someone asks, you're foreign.

It IS John Cena, the entire episode was full of wrestlers. But the scene works best with music

I guess if you were motivaded strong enough, you could make a great worker for telemarketing. Unless of course the person on the other side of the call wouldn't simply hang out after listening to your bullshit

So, let me get this straight. Your head-canon has better value in arguments than actual content of the anime, dialogues and real context?

One of you gets a parachute and a cord, the other gets a cord.
The one with the cord will follow the one with the parachute and take the parachute when he dies.
Any questions?
yes, I know this story is greatly exaggerated in media, just roll with it for the joke

The funny part about this Anons, Is that I haven't watched Sword of the Stranger.

I'm talking about principles of writing here. You've heard conservation of detail under a more general name "Chekov's Gun": If there's a gun on the mantle in act 1, it will be fired in act 3.

With the assumption of a decent writer/director, the scene serves a purpose correct? What is the purpose of the scene?

At a minimum, the scene is meant to establish the character is different. What difference is the writer trying to convey?

Considering the tone and setting, I think "He's a foreigner" is a very reasonable option. If you have another theory, (E.G. Is there another character with the same hair color he's attempting to link him to?) I'll defend it with the same fervor.

Even the worst writers know not to write useless scenes, and this isn't written by absolute amateurs.

The show would've been a lot better without the witches.

I could not agree with that more. The second part, at least. I loved the concept of GATE, but when it suddenly became "oh btw, he actually IS an idiot, and EVERY girl wants his D for no reason" I grew very dissapointed.

That being said, what kind of system could run a game in this kind of "setting", aka modern vs fantasy?
>>
>>45369708
no thanks. I don't plan on sliding my palms along the blade.
though it does make me curious, as to whether they used to make blade semi-dull back then. I can kind of understand due to the existence of plate and chain-mail.

It's very Pro-Japanese.
Just like ever pro-American piece of media in existence, except Americans are incapable of swallowing it when it's done by anyone but them.

Tl;Dr, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it at all.

The poor thing was blind going straight from a dark box to the midday sun. You have to hold them for a short while till the sight adjusts.
