Also most of Ayreon's albums are connected. For example, the first album, Ayreon, is about a blind mistral in King Arthur's court receiving visions from the future about mankind destroying themselves in a world war (The War of 2084) And him trying to spread the word to prevent this destruction. Other albums also mention the War of 2084, as well as a few other themes.

I've become a big fan of Nordic Metal lately, ever since my brother introduced me to Amon Amarth before he went to the military to introduce more people to its wonders.

Emperor is great if you can stand the black metal style vocals, which I know a lot of people can't. Though they along with Summoning are always "fantasy" bands I'd recommend at least a try simply because the instrumentation in those bands are something really special.

That being said I'd imagine NWOHBM, power metal, and doom metal bands to be the most easily accessible bands for a non metal head, not the same genre that has Grand Belial's Key and Blasphemy in it.

I generally don't like metal, but lately I listen to a lot of Sabaton. They have a certain Warhammer vibe since all their songs are about actual wars: WW1, WW2, medieval stuff.
Also I recommend Gloryhammer, it's kind of a parody of fantasy metal but it's actually freaking awesome metal with catchy on-the-nose lyrics. It's just a fun band.
