>Hey /tg/ station I...

are a separate entity from /tg/ station, we just host our threads on /tg/ as the server was made by fa/tg/uys for elegan/tg/entlemen.
We occasionally run Dorfstation mode, a roundtype where the crew must build up from a bare-bones station. Dorf will be run less often then usual, probably on the first and/or last of every month now. Dorf is ran on a separate server, found at byond://76.16.8.127:28020

>How is this station different from [station]?

Our changelog is recorded at http://d20station.ddns.net/changelog.html, and we try to keep it up to date as much as posible. The changelog has been cleaned up to show changes starting from the base code of the /nt/ branch.
Code branch from NT (also named d20Station) is updated a few times every week with fixes and new content.
If you have a bug, contact an admin in-game or on the thread to report it.
Note: This is NOT SS13 general.

Personally I think it'd be great if the multitool opened a menu for color options including the psychedelic one rather than just setting it to rainbow permanently.

Also I hate the new e-swords. Sick reference admins but it doesn't make me like that crap design anymore than when I first saw it

>>44790632
no, currently the only ingame way to get a specific colour is to spawn them until you get it
i might see about letting a multitool cycle between the colours though

on an unrelated note: i've made equipment dispensers now, which let crewmembers select a pre-defined 'loadout' of equipment to dispense, and only allows them to pick once - this means that we can now have things like lasertag dispensers for events, easy newcops/operative setups, whatever else
it also means that the upcoming salvage gamemode will be 300% more playable, because now everyone who joins will be able to get a basic set of equipment to help them (currently oxygen tank, mask, emergency toolbox, o2 kit) without being able to hog a locker full of shit, or without requiring 3000 oxygen tanks be spawned on round-start for everyone
when i finally finish up emergency pressure suits (aka never) they'll also be added to the default salvage equipment.

up next will probably be adding more potential 'disasters' for the salvage round to spawn with, as well as some optimisation of the mode (currently it pauses like 10 seconds at roundstart while it sorts shit out, which is pretty bad, otherwise works fine after that though)

>>44791416
the 'new' eswords seem to be because some fagola didn't bother renaming their new weapon's states or something
i'll fix that by tomorrow if somebody doesn't do it beforehand, i've not got the time tonight since i've got GURPS at my lgs in like half an hour.

if you do make it able to change colors you need to randomize plastic saber color so people won't always choose blue
>those times you ignore a guy running around with a blue esword because you think it's just a toy

>>
>>44791551
Emergency pressure suits eh? What's the deal on them?
>>
>>44791551
That was me. At the time, I was reworking eswords for the R&D one, and the fact that the cutlass would just turn into a normal esword if you tried to combine it or used a multitool on it. They were pretty much hard-coded so that the esword would be the only one able to change colors, (if esword: icon_state = "sword[color]" else if cutlass: "cutlass1") and the cutlass would only have it's red state. I had to make them not do that, and put in a thing saying which swords can't be combined.
The new eswords were solely just because I wanted to see what people would say, it was intentional that they replaced default esword icons.
>>44791690
I can do that, recently had to fix the toy swords because they used the same system.
>>44791708
I saw them in one of the suit files, I think they're emergency space suits that can rip if the player gets attacked, and only last like 5-10 minutes, long enough for a shuttle call.

I think they're uniforms that can provide temporary protection from low pressure and space, the kind of thing you wear under anything else so you can get to a real space suit

>I think they're uniforms that can provide temporary protection from low pressure and space, the kind of thing you wear under anything else so you can get to a real space suit
Yeah, basically their a shit tier space suit that really are only useful if you have to get through an airless section of the station.

A good example is Goon's Emergency Suit; I'm not even sure if it's fully Space-proof, but it will provide some protection in a vacuum and keep you from freezing to death.

I know there is another station that uses the tissue paper space suit model, but I can't remember which...

>>44796757

>>
>>44791708
>>44794752
emergency pressure suits are worn like normal space suits, but will degrade while in a vacuum and when you take damage (so limiting your spacewalks to a couple of minutes)
i'll design them basically so that you can wear one until you find something proper to wear, or can get into a safe environment
the only problem i found was getting them to properly detect when they were worn and in low pressure environments, and the only solution i could think of was maybe adding them to the processing list on new() and periodically checking that stuff, but that could add a hell of a lot of overhead to the server if there's a few of them about (which would be necessary to make them even useful - you'd want ones in important places like medbay, sec, research, etc)

the uniform you're talking about was the experimental space suit, which is experimental in and out of the universe, since nobody's really tried to make a uniform spacesuit
ran into a few issues since i was a lazy dumb dumb and just copied the spacesuit flags over to it, sprites weren't too great, and overall it didn't really work well, but i might have another look at that at some point.

>>44795206
i think /vg/station has emergency suits like the style i'm planning, and i think i've seen damaged space suits in bay code, but i don't recall.
either way it's a fun little idea
>>
>>44798711
bay had them at some point I think
I know we had them at d2 as well though the helmets didnt break down which was an oversight
>>
>>44798711
>either way it's a fun little idea
Agreed.
Though I'd honestly just skip the durability checks for pressure and make it only provide so much protection from pressure damage.
So you CAN use it to get through a vacuum, but you'll only last for so long before succumbing to pressure damage.

After all, it's not a TRUE space suit, but a sort of wearable space life preserver.
>>
something I should mention about how pressure works in real life, basically in a low pressure area or vacuum, the boiling temperatures of just about everything goes down.
this can kill things like most plants because their membranes are porous for better water absorption. There are exceptions like radishes which seem to give no fucks about it.
however the human body, short of the holes you're born with, is pretty tightly sealed, so while uncomfortable, you would survive a vacuum without really taking any real damage, as long as the vacuum had a relatively controlled temperature.
so the end result is, temperature is what causes damage, not the pressure itself, unlike in the case of this crab https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMHwri8TtNE

theres really not nearly enough data available on this kinda stuff, but an important thing to remember is that 101 kpa, is a fairly low pressure compared to any sort of dangerous one, and thats why at 101 kpa opening an airlock does not shoot you outside at mach chicken
>>
>>44802209
>however the human body, short of the holes you're born with, is pretty tightly sealed, so while uncomfortable, you would survive a vacuum without really taking any real damage, as long as the vacuum had a relatively controlled temperature.
Are we just going to ignore the Bends, and how the internal fluids would still risk bubbling? Or soft tissue swelling and organ fuckery?
>>
>>44802209
RIP crab
>>
>>44802293
yes, since the bends is prevented with your simple oxygen tank, and symptoms can disappear when re-entering a pressurized area, and as for the other symptoms, not really interested in simulating people randomly getting paralyzed because someone tried to space them.
a while ago I got rid of the low pressure damage and nobody seems to have noticed, since the only time you'd get low pressure damage you'd be getting heat damage, which is regardless, the more appropriate type of damage considering how those plants would be dying in the first place.

I've mentioned this quite a few times I'm sure, but there is a lack of data for low pressure environments for many things. There is certainly high pressure data around with scuba diving and what not, as high pressure is a much more commonly dealt with

as long as someone in a low pressure environment has an air supply they're basically solid on earth, since the really only downsides of being in the lower pressure areas, is that they're colder and have thinner air which is harder to breath
>>
>>44802807
>On Earth, the atmosphere exerts pressure in all directions. At sea level, that pressure is 101 kilopascals. In space, the pressure is nearly zero. With virtually no pressure from the outside, air inside an unprotected human's lungs would immediately rush out in the vacuum of space. Dissolved gases in body fluids would expand, pushing solids and liquids apart. The skin would expand much like an inflating balloon. Bubbles would form in the bloodstream and render blood ineffective as a transporter of oxygen and nutrients to the body's cells. Furthermore, the sudden absence of external pressure balancing the internal pressure of body fluids and gases would rupture fragile tissues such as eardrums and capillaries. The net effect on the body would be swelling, tissue damage, and a deprivation of oxygen to the brain that would result in unconsciousness in less than 15 seconds.

>>
>>44803140
You keep using the word "vacuum." If you don't mean "vacuum," stop using the term, because that seems to be root of all the confusion here.
>>
>>44803226
you don't seem to know what a vacuum is
>>
>>44803251
Unless you're talking about an appliance for some reason, a vacuum is an absence. No air, or other matter. It's not "an area with a lower than normal air pressure," it's "an area with no air."
Space has a real thin sheen of plasma through it, sure, but it is an effective vacuum for practical concerns.

The line "as long as the vacuum had a relatively controlled temperature" is self-contradictory, because by definition, a vacuum CANNOT have a temperature.
>>
>>44803392
Just thought I'd chip in here with my probably wrong understanding.
I thought by the laws of thermodynamics nothing could never not have a temperature, and also by that definition there could be no such thing as a perfect vacuum.

gup vs dbz.jpg
100KB, 1024x819px
>>44803392
there is no such thing as a 'total vacuum' except in theoretical physics which is literally just math with no practical application

thats you under the tank
>>
>>44803718
"Perfect vacuums" do this weird thing where they spontaneously fill with temporary matter, apparently, but the problem with saying vacuums have a temperature remains twofold
>there's barely-to-no matter that's actually there to have a temperature
>there's barely-to-no matter there to conduct or convect matter
There could be concerns about radiant energy heating things inside a vacuum - a main problem when exposed to the sun in nearby space - but aside from that? Evaporative cooling isn't much of a concern for humans, unless someone decided to keep their mouth and throat completely open and relaxed like some kind of faggot.

>>44803761
And your misuse of the term, confusing the scale between "low pressure" and "effective vacuum" remains just that: a confounding misuse.
>>
you're all a bunch of nerds you need to channel your inner nerd like me by getting a waifu and ERPing with her
