Experimentation and a lot of headscratching while browsing the galleries on the HM website. I still get frustrated with the sort of detailed light and shadow stuff the advanced users can pull off.

From left to right:

Half-orc Barbarian
>Large, stupid, strong, often in town drinking and plowing hookers when not actively employed. Not as angry/touchy as typical half-orcs.

Human Fighter
>Former member of the town guard turned mercenary after a corruption scheme got a new and very strict command in charge. He acts as the party leader and liaison to questgivers, though he really dislikes being in a leadership position.

Variant Human Wizard
>Very friendly and always willing to help. Good at brewing potions and spends most of his offtime searching for ingredients. Has a large stash of money from a very successful potion shop he runs in town.

Halfling Thief
>Shady little fuck, will steal from anyone and everyone. There hasn't been a time where he has walked through a crowd without pickpocketing someone

Wood elf monk (way of the shadow)
>Kicked out of monastery for being an asshole. He still lives a very monk-esque lifestyle except he's a charlatan. He often swindles people out of money via gambling games set up on the street. He has been known to mingle with gangsters and the lowest urchins of town. This is how he honed his hand to hand combat skills.

Variant Human Cleric
>My character. He's a Cleric of the Life domain, worshiping and drawing from Sanctuary as his primary deity. He is true neutral and tends to back off situations that don't involve someone's life being in danger. He is a journeyman of the Carpenter's Guild and is proficient with many different hand tools, and has access to a handmade canoe and other benchmade objects.

High elf ranger
>A richfag who got bored of his life as a noble and tagged along with us to be an adventurer. Very good shot with a bow and formidable with his swords, but doesn't like getting his hands dirty or getting involved in hectic levels of violence.

He's actually one of our best assets

On the battlefield he can cast a shadow for, I believe 1 or 2 ki, then teleport throughout the shadow and fuck people up.

He's as nimble and quick as our halfling so if the little guy has to scout, he can get backup pretty quick, especially if there are shadows nearby (which, generally speaking, there usually are lots of them in situations that call for a rogue)

Our DM had us sneaking into a rich count's castle tower to search for evidence that he was leading a child sex slavery ring, and our monk basically did all the work. Useful guy. Underrated class.

(Baron) Tomah Zavadsky, of Helenia, his male thoroughbred Ilona Gabby Johnson, and the squirrel mafia.
>Daimah Nephilim Electromag/Teleport Mentalist. Very rarely thinks his actions through. Gabby bonded to him after being rescued from an attacking Lagor(giant psychic spider). Squirrels are after him due to his habit of sleeping in trees, blocking some holes leading to their nut stashes. Things have escalated from there, now they're out for blood. Doesn't help he has a nut allergy.

Skyla Adair, of Alberria
>Nephilim Ebudan Acrobat Warrior. Her destiny is twofold: acquire Mjolnir(complete), and use it to thrash MegawizardHitl- I mean Matthew Gaul. Placed first in Tao Zan tournament, has earned the nickname Blue Thunder from it. Also given Arachne as a birthday present from Manah Razz. Unsure how to feel about arachne, because spider phobia and the gift-giver. Skilled dancer. Not pictured - her pet Red-sided Garter Snake named Snek.
