Adversary is a new, custom format for Magic: The Gathering intended to be played over Cockatrice.
Update 4 is live!

>How is it played?
http://pastebin.com/4JUSJp01
In Adversary, players select an Adversary card from an existing archive, or create their own. These Adversaries enter play from turn one, and possess abilities that change the way the game is played. If you've ever tried out Vanguard, you'll feel right at home. Adversary uses 61-card decks (including the Adversary card). The format is Modern Singleton.

>How are Adversaries balanced?
Each Adversary is assigned three values: a life total, a starting hand size, and a level. The life total and starting hand size are used to balance Adversaries based on the power of their abilities. In the event that they cannot be effectively balanced this way, Adversaries are also assigned a level, indicating that they are only suited for play against Adversaries of a similar level.

>How can I make my own Adversary?
Post your desired rules text, color identity, illustration and artist-to-credit in this thread and I might make it for you! Alternatively, make it yourself in Photoshop or an MTG card creation program. I will then add it to the .xml file and it will become available to everyone.

Weird. The board auto-deleted the thread as soon as I tried creating it. I don't even know how come I managed to make it pop back into existence.

Anyways, in case Adversary General isn't welcome in /tg/ any longer I'll be temporarily moving the general to /trash/ in order to regroup and search for a new allocation elsewhere.
>>
>>44582815
In case we are allowed to stay, here is the topic / objectives for the thread

>Create new adversaries.
>Discuss new pitches.
>Balance currently existing adversaries.
>Get on Cockatrice and play, have fun.
>Suggest changes to the format, new rules, new mechanics, even new card types. Get wild.

Remember, /adv/ IS NOT a custom card thread in disguise, but a format. That's why the focus of the thread should be balancing the 50 current adversaries + Spike's set. For this very reason the number of new pitches that will be accepted will be reduced for the time being.

Could this work in a Two-Headed Giant style match?

New pitch

General Galahd, Champion of Zendikar

Adversary: (WUBRG)

Landfall – Whenever a Land would enter the battlefield under your control, you may return target creature you control to your hand.

Whenever activating a creature ability would require you to tap it, you may tap another creature you control instead.

Good question. Right now there are no rules regarding Two-Headed Giant matches, but I'd suggest the following.

>Each member of a team picks an Adversary.
>The abilities of each Adversary affect them and only them unless specified otherwise on the card text.
> Each member of the team begins with the hand size specified in their respective Adversaries.
>The team's life total equals the life of both Adversaries combined x0.75 rounded down.

The only problem I see happening would be the interactions between a team's Adversaries. Due to the nature of their abilities some combinations are bound to be broken while some others would be completely useless. To prevent this we could also have the following:

>Each team picks one Adversary, ability and starting hand applies for both.
>Team's life total is Adversary's life x1.5

Balance suggestion:

>Ananta:
Raise the starting hand to 5
Needs new artwork. Current uses artwork from an existing MTG card. Maybe this http://forrestimel.deviantart.com/art/Hydra-462759148 ?

Guy who made Grahv here. Anyone actually playtested with him? I've not had the time, but I noticed he was nerfed, so I assume this means he's been performing well?
>>
>>44582964
Current wording for Azchiti should be "Put a [X] counter" rather than "Add."
>>
>>44585087
True. That needs to be edited.

>>44585045
Haven't tried him, but everything that is nerfed or boosted is done so on the basis of having been playtested by a few players and then discussed about on what to do with it.

Sometimes the abilities will be slightly modified and others the level will go up/down.

Regarding Grahv's case, he isn't too powerful but he IS very versatile. I suspect that's why he was nerfed.

Wanted to give BR another toy to play with.

Iakov, Pierrot of the Rakdos (2)

Artist: Hutchen

Adversary (BR)

[B/R], [T], Discard a card: Add [B][B][B] or [R][R][R] to your mana pool.

Hellbent — As long as you have no cards in hand, you may cast cards from your graveyard. If those cards would be put into a graveyard this turn, exile them instead.

I'm... not sure this is appropriate at level 2.
>>
>Modern Singleton

Interest evaporated. Any particular reason why these restrictions were chosen?
>>
>>44585885
Bump it up to level 3 or make it "Instant and sorcery cards in your graveyard have flashback?"

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
