So.. half of them reward incompetence as a general?

And it's of course the strong armies that have to do bad to gain benefit, while the weakest armies need to over-preform...
>>

Where does that come from?

Imperial Units

All armies from the Imperium can call upon the God-Emperor of Mankind in their moment of greatest need. As a result, all Imperial units gain Furious Charge and Fearless.

Forces of Chaos - CSM and Daemons

Calling upon the Ruinous Powers of the Chaos Gods, all Chaos units can choose to treat To Hit and/or To Wound rolls of 1 as a 6 instead.

Orks

The orks call out to Gork and Mork, who rewards them with a giant green foot descending from the sky to squash their foes! You make a special Stomp attack, which is 3 massive 7" templates that don't scatter - inflicting anything from Str 6 hits to Instant Death, or Penetrating Hits on Vehicles to Instant Wrecks!

Eldar and Dark Eldar

When activated, this Divine Intervention gives all Eldar and Dark Eldar units Hatred and Rage.

Tau Empire

While the Tau do not worship any deities, their sense of purpose and devotion to the Greater Good borders on the fanatical. When activated, all Tau units gain Feel No Pain (4+), Stubborn, and also the Counter-attack special rules.

Tyranids

The Hive Mind takes over and all creatures come under the direct control of the this collective consciousness. Tyranid units gain Preferred Enemy, may Run & Shoot, and then can also Assault in the same turn.

Necrons

Necrons are repulsed by the essence of an unchained C'tan and steel themselves from its influence, and the influence of all others. They gain Adamantium Will, Fearless, and their Reanimation Protocols work on a 4+.
>>
>>44430761
I wish they had the old mob rule back, the new one is basically suicide.
>>
>>44431148
Better form smaller/elite units, worse for hordes.
>>
>>44431137

>Preferred enemy, run shoot and assault army wide

Jesus fucking Christ.
>>
>>44431170
Which makes no sense for the orks.
>>
>>44431196
So 5 nobs should be easier to scare than 12 boys?
>>
>>44431224
What I mean is that orks have always been the army which morality and numbers are closely related
>>
>>44430924
Well that is fluffy. Orks, Chaos aren't going to reward shit play.

The Hive Mind should be the opposite though. It's not an entity that rewards or punishes, it responds to stress (losing)
>>
>>44431224
5 nobs are as easy to scare as always but now boys kill themselves in fright when pretty much anything rears it's ugly head.
>>
>>44431224
Well they're both leadership 7, so yeah
>>
Which is the best novel with Tyranids?
>>
>>44431026
Oh God that's scary
>>
>>44431433
No, now the 5 nobs can fail their ld, but succeed on the mob rule test.

Before it was a flat bonus
Are we enough to be fearless?
No: because mobs can't have 12 models in a unit.

Are we more than 7?
If yes: test with that as your LD.
If no: get fucked.

Is Citadel Finecast still horrible? I was kind of hoping they'd make new versions of Shadowsun and Farsight this year (even though I knew it was a stretch). I've been thinking of getting a Farsight since he actually kind of works in the Dawn Blade detachment, but as a fairly new hobbyist that's never used Finecast before (but heard all about it) I'm not sure I want to deal with any potential bubbles or miscasts or whatever.

>>
Why do they say in the Dawn of War games that the nemesis of Elder are Necrons and not Dark Elder? Are Dark Elder to Elder just what black people are to white people?
>>
>>44431732
Returns policy can be pretty tight, so even if you get fucked over they will likely send you a second one and let you keep the miscast, if any of it is salvageable it could make for good bits.
>>
>>44431871
Eldar are like puritanical Christians while Dark Eldar are rebellious teenagers. They don't like each other, but they're still the same race, and work together against all the other inferior ones.

Hey I'm putting together a 750p nid army

Flyrant with twin devourers

Tervigon with cluster spines
30xTermagaunts

Exocrine

I've got 30points to spare and I'm not sure what to spend it on.

As for the flyrant, a lot of the people I play with use air units at the same point size, and it's my best AA option.
>>
>>44431732

I wouldn't buy Finecast unless it's in a clear blister and you inspect it in the shop.

Finecast can be flawless or easily fixed, but it can also have so many holes it's not worth the time.
>>
>>44431871
Different approach to handling the whole Chaos god thing.
>>
>>44431732
They don't use finecast anymore. Read just about any models description that was in finecast and you'll see it just says resin now. Rumour is that they've switched to what forgeworld uses which has led to less bubbling.
>>
>>44431915
You're pretty much done, there aren't many options with taking for tyranids and there isn't that many options for single models.

Just beware of the tau even on that low points.
>>
>>44431915
Regen on the Tervigon.
>>
>>44432071
why the tervigon and not the others? I'd imagine it would be the last target on peoples priority list.
>>

>>44431871
The Fall of the Eldar was caused when the Eldar partied too hard and fucked Slaanesh into existence. The Dark Eldar just keep on partying hard (except now torture dudes on the side to stay alive/young because that prevents their souls from getting sucked out) while the Craftworlders adhere to rigid social paths and repress those parts of themselves that caused the fall.

Essentially, the Craftworlders think the Dark Eldar are self-destructive idiots, and the Dark Eldar think the Craftworlders are some autistic faggots playing at being ascetic warrior-monks.

The divide's ultimately just cultural though, they both still work together and consider each other's lives more valuable than those of any other species, plus the fact that Commorragh is the single largest port in the Webway makes its existence pretty important to all Eldar. There's some GW fiction where individual Eldar move back and forth between going Craftworld or Commorrite throughout their lives.

The Eldar as a species were literally created as a weapon against the Necrons though, so that's where the whole ancestral enemy thing comes from.
>>
>>44432109

>>

Exocrine would probably be the first target, just because the flyrant needs to be shot at by other air units/AA.

>>
>>44432204
I resent the implication.
>>
>>44431871
Same reason that they're Battle Brothers on the tabletop (along with Harlies). They're the same species, there's not many of them left, and they'd rather work with weird their creepy soul sucking cousins than soulless metal abominations intent on destroying everything even remotely connected to the Warp (or filthy Mon-keighs for that matter). They had different approaches to how to survive The Fall but at the end of the day the Necrons on one end and Slaanesh on the other are the greatest enemies of all Eldar, regardless of whether they're Craftworld, Exodites, Kabalites or Harlequins.
>>
>>44432220
I like the implication. Welcome to Commorragh faggot.
>>
>>44432222
Does that mean that that one Eldar slut who slept with a Vindicare Assassin basically committed gross bestiality from the Eldar point of view?
>>
>>44432071
Actually, I was thinking about shoving Adrenal gland on the exocrine + either the Hive tyrant or Tervigon, I read somewhere that Fleet was good on the Exocrine.
>>
>>44432514
I can't think of any reason why you'd want to do that to be honest. An exocrine wants to move into position and stay there until there is nothing left to shoot. Fleet would be largely useless considering that
>>
>>44432514
Fleet is only useful if you're running or charging. Doing either of those things means you're not firing the S7 AP2 gun. Fleet is utterly pointless on an exocrine.

Honestly though, Forge World resin is also shit. Fragile, full of errors and flaws, fragile, harder to work with and convert, fragile, doesn't take glue and paint as well even after soaking and scrubbing, fragile, breaks easily and fragile.

And for what, a negligable increase in sculptable detail? Only buy if you can't convert something suitable as a good looking standin, and even then be prepped for transporting nightmares.

the only thing I have finecast is my Necron Overlord. His staff was so fragile it snapped off and I just used another weapon from my Lychguard box. He also came with a SHITLoAD of bubbles, half his chest cavity is one big bubble (up to about half his chest insignia) and the little tassel things on his chest were so flimsy most broke off within minutes. I was fucking livid. I had to alter/paint the guy as if he had a bit of battle damage as I got him off a third-party online retailer so no way was I getting it replaced for more cost+shipping.

I remember complaining about it in a 40k conversation in one of my old guilds in WoW during WotLK. Someone else took offense because he worked at the factory and spent all day pouring shit into moulds, fucking Sensitive Sally he was.

Never again. Fuck resin et all. Plastic or metal.
>>
>>44432965
fucking
look at your choices
you have chaos spessh mehreens with bolters, berserkers with pistols, or havocs with various meh heavy weapons
why would you even want to do them shooty, it goes against the whole design of the army
if you want shooty khorne play renegades and take khorne covenants on everyone
>>
>>44432689

This is why you don't buy things with thin pieces in resin. I'll take resin space marines over plastic any day. Mostly just for the legs.
>>
>>44432965

Doesn't really exist, but you can build up shooty cultists, bikes and similar units with specialist weapons... Don't take Daemons except maybe Skull Cannons, but have the models to summon layers of chaff.
>>
>>44432134
Can people please stop thinking the craftworlders and dark kin are cool with each other?

The dark kin will joyously slay each other, let alone their kin who they hold in even greater contempt.

They'll work with the craftworlders sometimes but only if it suits their ends and they'll betray them the instant they get what they want and think they can get away with it.

Likewise, the craftworlders will gladly fight and kill their dark kin if the farseers see that it's the best course of action to protect their craftworld.

While I would love a Khornate CSM samurai-themed army with flags, swords and helmets/armour, my force is already painmted and done up. Maybe someday do a samurai special character kitbash. But I AM going to be stripping and repainting my small Tau force soon. Seeing as they got the whole segmented armour thing going and asian vibes, should I?

But for Tau I can't do the armour or katanas, but flags sure. any more ideas I could do to make them suitably samurai-themed?

Anyone know when the "getting started" sets are available for order/pre-order?

I'm thinking about snagging the Skit-Mech one since 10 Rangers, an Onager, and a Dominus seem like a decent deal especially if I can order them through a site that takes 10-20% off for going through them.

Alternatively I was considering a BaC box if the actual boardgame is any good which I'd love to hear some feedback about if anyone's played it?
>>
>>44433028
Noone said they are "cool with one another", just that they'd rather see other races than accelerate the decline of their own, dark and twisted they may be, but they are eldar and every death is a paving stone to extinction.

Of course the dark ones are a bit more frivolous about it, after all if we are doomed, why not go down having fun instead of denying yourself everything.

>>
>>44433189
My FLGS also mostly caters to magic and no other chaos players except for this one WAACer who brings multiple knights and a few Gorepacks.

That said Path to Glory looks a bit meh. The tables are too small and lackluster and you get points win or lose. There's fuckall detriment to losing, shit you can get your Champion spawn'D even if you do nothing but win. It just seems so basic, like someone took an afternoon off to slap it together to try and shut CSM players up.

Sick of seeing this shit t.b.h. Other factions get straight codex updates and some lucky few get campaign books chock-full of new formations, rules and wargear while chaos got a codex last year about 1 god to push sales for a model kit and then this shit with no update coming in 2016.

If you look hard enough in the fluff there will be instances of specific forgeworlds getting help from certain chapters or at least being situated close enough that it's likely that they receive supplies from them.

I personally have been considering adding Ad-Mech Allies to my Ultramarines and painting the Ad-Mech to be from Forgeworld Graia since the Ultramarines came to the aid of Forgeworld Graia to stave off an Ork Invasion in the Space Marine game.

If you're looking for more "directly stated" friends of Ad-mech then look up these chapters:
Reclaimers
Praetors of Orpheus
Mentors
Steel Confessors
Blood Ravens

Really though, you can fluff them however you want as long as you can make up some reason why they might work together.

Is there anything that's overcosted? Is there anything I might run into that would destroy this list (Primary opponents would be Imperial Fists, IG, Tau, and Eldar)? They're "cool with each other" by Eldar standards. Yes, they hate each other, but they will work together and can actual stand to be genuine allies (so long as there's a nice dividing line of Harlequins intervening; Codex Harlequins makes it fairly clear that they are the real line of communication between the other four Eldar factions). The only recorded instances of the DE genuinely helping any of the races of realspace all relate to the Craftworlds - even if their motivations were not exactly altruistic. I think the newer fluff regarding Iyanden's near-fall shows this pretty well. When the 'nids were going to wipe out the most important Craftworld, Yriel convinced his corsairs to come help their craftworld bros. Not necessarily a big surprise, but the presence of Commorrites was. Apparently the DE showed up in force to defend Iyanden, without even backstabbing them or raping anyone... but their real reason was that they thought it was hilarious how the Eldar of Iyanden were upset over having to practice necromancy via wraiths, and they didn't want stupid faggot 'nids ruining this by wiping them all out.

Which sounds pretty terrible but DE are literally more evil than chaos so by their standards that is basically equivalent to being best friends forever. The Craftworlders don't like the DE either but still consider them above humans or other non-Eldar plebs. I think it was the 3rd ed CE codex that really stressed the "even the nicest CE will murder 10 billion humans to save a single random dude on an exodite world" so even a deranged, drug-addled kabalite is probably worth more than whole systems as well.

tl;dr CE are so racist they're "cool with" DE by comparison, DE are evil but less aggressive at least when dealing with CE.

How is this for a 500pt chaos marine army? I know I'm not ever going to be super competetive with chaos this is for 'fun' games

>hq
>chaos lord
>bike, Mark of nurgle, black mace
>145pts

>troops
>two chaos space marine squads (10 man) stock equipment
>280pts

>elites
>Chaos spawn (mark of nurgle)
>36pts

This is where I get stuck
Should I take another MoN spawn to accompany the lord, or a rhino to transport one of the squads?
The point total would come to 497 or 496 respectively.

The rhino would help the squad get to objectives faster/draw some fire from the Lord, but on the other hand having another spawn will really help protect the Lord who will be drawing most of the fire anyway.

I'm new to the game, so other recommendations are welcome.
For instance is there an advantage to swapping bolters for close combat weapons in one of the squads? Do they get an extra attack or something? Would it be effective to do that in a squad in a rhino?

Sorry for all the questions, thanks in advance for any answers.
Pic is my first painted minis (yes I know there is a really obvious mould-line, I missed it)

Scions are an alpha strike unit, they normally drop down and melta a vehicle or blast a squad with plasma in the sweet spot, they don't last long if they don't do damage but deep striking means they will always be the first ones to open fire.

I like a scion command squad with 4 plasma guns and a 10 man squad, use a relay to guide them in, have the 10 man squad FRFSRF to dakka down anything without a 2+ save and then give anything that does a face full of rapid fire plasma.

They're T3 W1 4+, so they'll go down pretty quick once someone starts paying attention to them, but when I ran them they'd usually be able to make their points back before that happened. Just make sure they get a good target and try to land 'em close enough to do mean things to it.

I'd say no on the array unless you put it on something Fast, but that's because I used my Scions to deepstrike into backfield stuff and mix up my opponent's lines, so my Chims and LRs were usually too far away from the fun to be of help with an array.

Grotzooka is just flat out better. Maybe not against vehicles, but against ANY type of infantry. The grotzookas inflict so many hits, and usually a ton of wounds due to S6. You stand a better chance of killing them by putting more wounds on them, and grotzookas do that best.

If you really need that S8 AP3, and you do, play Tankbustas. They have melta bombs and they're cheap, and arguably the best ork unit right now.

To be fair, barring Word Bearers, aren't all warbands devoted to one of the four anyways? Black Legion's "undivided" but in the sense that they have different mark'd lords, not that they're all undivided. Ditto the Night Lords and Iron Warriors who serve Chaos, iirc.

You get less Favor points (So get a daemon prince slower, unless v lucky) which means you have a harder time winning the game. You also can't get the boons from the various tables, or more followers. That's fairly sizable- If you win, you're likely to keep winning, and so get a daemon prince faster.
>>
>>44436644
They don't have to be. From a gameplay perspective, you aren't forced to take Marks on anything bar the Prince, and from a fluff perspective, there are supposed to be other minor warp entities outside of the big 4 that a warband can deal with.

Learn to write your army list on paper before relying on a crutch to automatically generate your army.

Best advice I can give you before you turn into some retarded faggot who can't write armies without a program and posts PDFs and screenshots and poorly formatted copy paste reports on army list general threads, and fails to notice when his program gives him illegal combos or incorrect points values.

Hello friends.
So I just booted up my very first 40k army and decided to play space marines.
I bought a space marine captain and a tactical squad. What should be my next purchase?
>>
>>44440260
>picking "spesh merines"
So boring taste. Bet you like vanilla sex in missionary position with hand holding too.
>>
>>44440236
Your CSM rework looks very wonky. A lot of it is just not terribly useful or so situation it doesn't do anything to help the army.

I'm adding what constructive criticism I can as I go through. Will do the same to the rest as I read it, but that'll take longer.
>>
>>44439919
>A Kroot rework that lets Hounds form their own squads

Finally someone else gets it.
>>
>>44440283
Was going to be orks or tyrannids but the other two pals joining me on this WACKY 40K ADVENTURE already took those.
And help with my question tho?
>>
>>44440260
A squad of scouts would give you a valid army, while also letting you use them to maneuver more and re-position for taking objective and camping cover.
Speaking of, your third purchase should be a piece of terrain, preferably line of sight blocking. Too many players have tables with no terrain, making every game a shooting gallery.

Or you could do what I did and use an empty beer case, carve some windows in it,, carve out one wall, and spraypaint it grey.
>>
>>44440297
Most armies aren't done. Really powered through Space marines with a Calculator and Battle reports for the last week.

Most complete are Orkz, Tau (though an edition old), and now marines.
>>
>>44439919
Just going to make some suggestions based on Tau stuff, since that's what I'm most familiar with.

First, it seems a bit odd to shift pathfinders into troops. I can understand why you did it, but that allows for a lot of markerlights on units you have to take anyway.

The next thing would be the changes in point costs. I think most of the changes are solid overall. Stealth suits might be a bit too cheap, and Missile drones should probably be more than just 2 extra points, but other than that it seems fine.

Something else I would recommend for Tau is a change in the general rules, making it so Rapid Fire weapons require you to be stationary again. This makes the trade-off between rifles and carbines more meaningful.

Added on to that would be the suggestion to make the Heavy Rail Rifle Rapid-fire instead of Heavy 1, in order to make it a more versatile option.
>>
>>44440260

Another troop. For now, you can play

1 Captain

5 Tactical
5 Tactical

But you need at least 2 squads of troops so you'll need some more guys if you want to have, say, two full squads of tacticals.

You should buy what models you think look cool, or what formations you like the sound of. If all else fails, the generic base to start with is

1 Captain (for Battle Company access or Chapter Master face smashing capability)
1 Chaplain (if you know you will go Battle Company or Demi-Company) or Librarian

10 Tactical Marines, Rhino
10 Tactical Marines, Rhino

From there you can add what you like, or get 10 more Tactical Marines, and either Bikes/Assault Marines and Devastators/Centurions for Battle Company.

But do you recall the most famous reindeer of all?

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer had a very shiny nose, and if you ever saw it, you would even say it glows.

All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names, they never let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa came to say, "Rudolph, with your nose so bright, your mutation will be cleansed tonight!"

Then all the reindeer purged him,

1d4chan's angry marine codex has power feet that give the unit fleet, among other things. I think that S10 AP1 HoW is a bit much. But if you're keeping the stats like you have, then 25 points isn't that bad. I guess it would allow devastators and such to fire heavy weapons when moving, and would allow your tactical marines to rapid fire with bolters and assault. So take that into account as well.

Some people volunteer at the homeless shelter, some people think that's charity on easy mode. Besides, someone has to teach you guys what good lists look like.

>making the formatting worse and harder to read

Wut? By using shorthand it is worse?

>obfuscating which formations

where did I say to do that you double nigger.

>removing logical sections

What logical section am I removing? I know I forgot to add the Electroshock Grubs and Regeneration to the shortening of the Flyrant but I don't play tyranids so don't know the abbreviations. Most of the time I see the Winged Tyrant typed out it is like

>Flyrant with 2x TL Devourer w/ BLW

So... how many spiders can fit into a vagina?

That's not a great example, but battlescribe gets much more obnoxious for stuff like space marines where you have to read that every model has a boltgun, boltpistol, frag grenades, and krak grenades, before you can dig out what special and heavy weapon options have been taken. Generally wargear options that you can take for granted should be trimmed out.

It's more the fact that an army that would lose first turn is functionally against the rules. You can houserule and still play against them, but it's like playing an army that uses tactical squads of 20 models.

also IG lists are horrible to read anyway but much worse with Battlescribe

I am going to try 40k with a few friends and choose Necrons as my army.

Starting out we will be learning with 250 point Kill Team

I am not sure how often specific kill team threads pop up so I thought I may get some help here. My other friends have choosen Dark Angels, Space Wolves and Imperial Guard as their starting armies but I am unsure what they are bringing as of yet.

Res Orb Noble 55

10 Immortals 18 ea

3 tombblade neublo 20ea

245/250

A further word of advice; battlescribe can and potentially will turn you into a listfag

>tfw endlessly fucking with minor useless shit on my list just because it's so easy and visually satisfying
>make 1 list alteration per day, at least, sometimes make lists composed entirely out of models I don't have, etc

it's like crack
sort of like GW models in general

Repentia with power strapons.

Are the FW riptide variants worth it or nah?
>>

Take a fucking Cryptek res orbs don't do anything now.

Well he did..

Ionhead or Railhead vs Necrons?

>res orbs don't do anything now

Oh duh, because they are all individuals in kill team?

They seem pretty decent for when I move up to actual games though, right?

Rail pops the fancy AV, Ion gets the reanimate down. Usually Rail with sub works fine.

Darkshrouds, even without using bikes the thing improves the cover of everyone near it and gives them fear.
