Alright /tg

What would be consequences of a post apocalyptic type world where volcanic ash is so thick in the air that its like theirs smog everywhere.

Cement lungs with out a rebreather

That's basically The Road. The book, not the movie.

Massive cooldown of the world. Most of humanity moves underground.
>>
Op.

yeah with the world im making I haven't taken into account the world cooling down at all so that should be something to take into account.

Although there are a few places where there is no ash, all of which have been reverted into cities that are extremely packed. (Ancient weather machines, which clean the air for a few miles in each direction of the monolith)

Rain would probably be rather acidic as well.

Basically everyone dies because the planet becomes inhospitable.
>>
Op

Yeah but, how long after do you think it would be till it became habitable or atleast people would be able to walk outside?

CAN YOU PLEASE QUOTE THE PERSON? You're anonymous so it quickly becomes extremely disorienting to make sense of it.

FUCK.

Hey op? You may want to try making use of the name field.
>>
>>44405676
Totally dependent on how high the ash has gone into the atmosphere. The Gulf War I oil well smoke for example lasted weeks to months, and disproved the old hypothesis of nuclear winter.

Are you thinking Yellowstone volcano ash? That might last years, or more if it gets in the upper atmo but then it wouldn't be in your lungs...except when the remnants on the ground get stirred up...

A comically short-lived thread, perhaps spoiled by OP's newfaggotry. Please, just use the name-field and quotes.

However, you have some interesting ideas that I feel really do deserve a discussion.

>Effects of ultra-heavy ash
Well, aside from the people that are lucky enough to live in the sprawling slums around the weather machines, a lot of people would be living underground.

Food production is going to be a major thing here, and the value of it will be enormous. The greater world will have very little in the way of animals aside from the horrific mutant beasts that lurk in the ash, and so expect very little in the way of meat. Meat is ridiculously bad in terms of energy costs, so a lot of people are just going to be eating nutrient mush or veggies from hydroponics / underwater farms.

These farms are going to need power for sunlamps, too. Geothermal or air works well enough for small communities, though the turbines are going to probably need fairly steady repairs and maintenance. And speaking of maintenance, air scrubbers will literally be the life of a community.

And I really love the idea of travel in this world. You basically get the fun of space while on land. Freighters running supplies from cities and settlements, raiders in enviro-suits picking on these conveys before vanishing into the Ash.

Aircraft based on jets will last as long as a neckbeard endurance.

Propellers will work better, but still not good enough.

That online story where Earth invades Hell dealt with this, because Hell's environment was similar to OP's question.

Seriously OP, get your shit together. Use the name field and reply properly.

The only viable transport would be something like the pic really. With air filtration systems. Other than that, only short distances could be traveled.

It'd be fucking cold is what.

Which story is this?

Just look at modern day Beijing on a bad air quality day.

They use russian tanks to fight inside Hell, fully sealed due to the ash in the air. Infantry has full NBC gear.

ARMAGEDDON is the first book.

A bit of forewarning. This is a HFY story in all its hilariously overpowered glory. If you want to read a story where humans struggle against overwhelming odds to emerge victorious, this is not what you're looking for.

Still fucking hilarious though.

Nobody has even mentioned the Mistborn books yet? Its somewhat this, to be honest. The smog is not everywhere, but it rains ash, and the dirt is covered in it. They use the water to filtrate the world enough to even grow crops.
