Modular flail that you can attach random things to. It worked for my super low int fighter and DM would have me roll craft with items in the room. If it was a low roll, it would be a horribly inefficient item (soggy bread). If it was a high roll, then it would be surprisingly effective (happen to attach a holy book that would make it destroy undead). It was a fun mechanic for the comic relief character.
>>
>>44390664
Okay if the scissor blades were flipped the other way to face outwards that'd be slightly less retarded.

Actually got this weapon once.

A sword made of potential (but un-realized) possibilities. It was connected to my characters' destiny. Any time I made a choice it became (microscopically) more powerful, occasionally manifesting as a new power. So for example before I picked it up it wasn't very powerful (I never touched it) but once I did it collapsed every potentiality where I did not touch the sword, and that's where its basic powers came from.

It had the ability to alter probability a little (more specifically nudging this reality towards a collapsed one) so like in this reality I missed an attack on that charging orc but in another I hit it square on, I can try and reach that other reality (so a reroll)
>>

Please be real, because this is absolutely hilarious

thats the joke, they're all unimaginative bloodborne fan weapons.
>>
>>44391653
I for one think it should drop the staff thing all together, make it either two shortstowds or a set of massive shears, that would be more in line with bloodborne's design scheme, what with the giant shaving razor weapon and pizza cutter.
>>
>>44392351
Not the Anon you were replying to, but I think that the "Lanternflail" is actually kinda legit. I mean. The name's obviously dumb/a joke, but it's a cool concept.

The others are definitely worth a laugh, though.

Depend on what kind of glass, and how thick it is. Glass is actually pretty sturdy anon.
And conversely,if you design it to be easily replaceable, maybe it could work to you advantage if it breaks. Maybe now youre swinging around a flail with an open flame in it, thats spraying glass shards into your wounds.

Head-canon says that the Doll lets it crawl inside of her and gestate to full size. She grows to gigantic proportions while tenderly caressing and soothing the good hunter squirming inside. Eventually it bursts forth, reborn anew as a Great One that then tenderly cradles it's shattered artificial mother as she once cradled it.

Frankly I'm surprised, and disappointed, that there isn't more pregnancy fetish rule 34 of Bloodborne, given what's in the game on its own.
>>
>>44398984
Because while Bloodborne is heavily focused on children and pregnancy, it's also mostly about killing those children and terminating those pregnancies. Even not counting all the terrifying side-babies, the main quest is ultimately about proactively aborting a baby as hard as you possibly can.
>>
>>44399044

Speaking of babies, what is Mergo? I know that he's a child of the Old Ones, and that he's stillborn, but what does that mean and what part does he play?

Mergo is the still born children of Yharnam (the ancient Pthumerian queen) and Oedon (the biggest god in the setting). He is a dead great one that the Mensis school studied to try to make contact with the great ones when he was found in the labyrinth. some how, they did make contact, that is when the nightmare began, and Mergo is the anchor for the dream. that is why when you kill the Wet Nurse (who may or may not have been sent by Oedon after he took him from Yarhnam), you get the message NIGHTMARE SLAIN (a message that you only get when you kill great ones), since MP was using mergo to continue the nightmare so it could better understand humanity by using hunters to kill beasts (which great ones created as a curse to humans) and gather blood echos.
>>
>>44399127
>pizza knight
>>
>>44399075
Mergo is the child of the Great One Odeon and Yharnam, the mortal queen of the ancient Pthumerians. Mergo was either stillborn or died in birth, in fact it either ripped itself out of Yharnam or had to be cut from her. Mergo was dead but not truly 'dead', much in the same way Cthulhu can be called as such.
He lingered, even as the Pthumerians fell and the Yharnamites eventually plundered their tombs and founded their entire society on the old blood they found within.

The School of Mensis, a secret subset of the Healing Church, consider Mergo their master and the key to the Church's goal of uplifting humans to the status of Great Ones since blood ministration has quite obviously failed in that role. Mensis has been pulling more and more of Yharnam into nightmare worlds, pulling the moon closer and making the influence of blood and beasthood ever stronger. But regardless of how they reached for the cosmos, they could not gain an audience with Mergo or the Eldritch Truth. This is because of Rom who has been standing as a barrier between humanity and the Eldritch Truth for quite some time, probably on Master Willen's wishes.

So when you kill Rom the blood moon finally draws close and you start to see Queen Yharnam hanging around. You also see other parts of Mergo's stillborn remains in various forms such as the One Reborn and the giant frenzy brain at this point. But in the end, you put an end to Mergo by killing his Wet Nurse.
The Wet Nurse didn't literally suckle him but she clearly provided him with some sort of sustenance or power that he needed. Note that when you first enter the Wet Nurse battle, you can see a pram with the sound of a crying baby. But the baby cannot be found, invisible to your senses in the much the same way as the Wet Nurse herself is. And when you kill the Wet Nurse, the game lingers for several seconds as the unseen baby cries and then slowly stops making noise. Only then does it tell you the nightmare is slain.

Too late, head-cannons on full blast now.

Also, since this has become Bloodborn general I'm curious how the healing church and the nightmare are like in other countries. We know from the descriptions of the weapons like the Rokuyo and the Chikage that they are foreign made weapons and that one of the hunters you meet in the DLC was a foreigner from !Japan or some other asian country.

If everything is as fucked as it is in Yarnnham, which I assume is a !European country, imagine the kind of shit that's made and faced in other countries as well.

>Blood Draining Tsuchigumo and Wasp women in !Japan

>Wendigos in !America fighting random !Native Americans

>Ghouls in !Persia/Arabia

Challenge: explain what each of these weapons does in a way that counteracts how fucking retarded most of them are.
>>
>>44400465
no

while other countries exist, only Yarhnam has blood ministration and blood healing., which is why everything is fucked in Bloodborne. other countires exist, but you only get 'bloodborne' in Yahrnam. while beasts to exist in the rest of the world, they are in vastly smaller numbers than they are in Yahrnam.

the Healing Church is unique to Yahrnam because they are a front for study into great ones, and the Nightmare is unique in the fact that is structured and ordered in Yahnarm because of Kos.

Okay. Let's do this alphabetically.

Bioaxe: Deals poison dot, and plague spreads among hostiles. Repeated blows increased intensity of affliction on plagued targets.

Cyclohammer: First hit marks a target. You can then make melee attacks that strike the target regardless of range.

DeathDriller: Deals weak, constant damage with rapid attacks. Has a 6x critical hit, however, the cos of which increases as your target's HP percentage drops. (90% HP, 10% crit, 50% HP, 50% crit)

Goreflail: Enemies killed by this weapon explode in a gorey mess, damaging enemies and healing allies.

Icewing: Icy arrows will slow hit targets and do dot cold damage. Critical hits can freeze them and leave them susceptible to being shattered.

Psistabber: Normal hits deal damage and can render a target unable to distinguish friend or foe. Critical hits make the afflicted violently paranoid, convinced it's allies are out to kill it.

Pyrorapier: Deals fire dot. Oh, and anyone hostile that gets in close to you catches on fire.

Rainfist: Hurl explosive balls of holy water, or summon healing rains. Great for dealing with crypts full of undead, or for a supportive role. (The water bombs hurt non-undead, but pale in comparison to other weapons. The healing rain is much more effective than the Goreflail.)

one of the things about BB is that there is no 'magic' in the setting. what we see as 'magic' is just the GOs exerting their powers and we cannot understand it, thus we call it magic. all the supernatural stuff that occurs in BB is all due to the GOs operating on a different level. the rest of the world doesn't have magic, they are stuck in victorian london times. unless you have GOs behind all the spooky stuff going on in this country, there should be no reason for them to exist, other than beasts, which even then would stick to the werewolf forms.

that is just what i have so far for page 3. if you said it was BB inspired, it would make alot more sense to have the 'magic' aspect

they are, I stole ideas from a certain HP Lovecraft story and combined it with other ideas I cant recall the source for.

>bloodborne
>only beast-forms
so you've only gotten through the first third of the game?

that, and it's bloodborne inspired, not 100% bloodborne. maybe 75% bloodborne, 10% At the Mountains of Madness, 4% Marvel's Thor (see how the magic actually works), with the remainder being shit I saw on 4chan and other shit that I read.
>>
>>44401906
i've beaten the game, but the beast plague is what they always refer to as 'beasts' which is common throughout all the land. usually referred to as the 'Scourge', beasthood is caused by small creatures in the blood of infected humans that will mutate once certain conditions are met, what they are exactly we don't know, but the closer you are to a paleblood moon rising (that is, the GO coming to make babies) more people turn to beasts. the more esoteric creatures only start appearing once GO's get involved.

not sure about the ancient civilizations being hyper-advanced and creating beasts, since beasts only came into the world when the GOs came along and cursed humanity with it
>>
>>44401986
in this setting it's a side effect of the old ones, apes are just an amusing creation to watch as they bang rocks together.

but they went to sleep and we got clever.

metaplot, page 6

and in this case it's a sort of passive corruption system, with more nodes inside the country compared to outside.

so what is the diffrienction between the GO's and the Ancientss? or are they both from different part of reality that just so happen to intersect in this one reality? am i just taking the BB connection too far?

if they do work in the same reality, i noticed you used the word continent, do the events of BB take place on the same continent? by the events of BB, i mean Yahrnam and the land (lets say the size of the eastern coast of north america) that it takes place on
>>
>>44402119
>am i just taking the BB connection too far?
yup. you ever read "At The Mountains of Madness" by HP Lovecraft? lots of connections there too, those ancients created basically all life on earth as food or entertainment or both.

diffirent world/setting.
yharnam doesn't exist in my bloodbrew, it could with little effort using blood from one of the 'gods' on page 6; and it could be handwaved by the pseudoscience of the ancients in that setting.

Please excuse lapses in coherency as it is 7:45am so I may not go on too long here.

Dishonored is an awesome for the same reason Bloodborne is - it's one of the rare pieces of media I think can be call themselves Lovecraftian and not necessarily have it be what people THINK Lovecraftian means. Plus they both absolutely nail the 18th century/Industrial Revolution aesthetic just right.

Dishonored's cosmic spookiness is pretty understated but fundamental to the setting. The Whales seem to have some kind of incredible significance and when they get wiped by an overzealous, fuel-hungry humanity, something terrible will happen. Then there's the Void, which seems to be outer space of some kind, but also appears to be aware, since it yearns for representation, so creates the Outsider, this sort of diabolically tinged Nyarlathotep. He gives people power simply if they're interesting, he wants to see how someone will use these powers. If they're boring, he takes them away. Magic seems either Outsider-granted or through complicated, arcane ritual.

There's the Abbey of the Everyman who venerate no god, but simply wish to protect against the seething cosmos of monsters above them. They also seem to have been successful creating some kind of anti-magic, or natural magic, or scientific power. They can use mathematical music to suppress the Outsider, and Corvo's powers.

There's that one hint about the ruins of an ancient civilization under Dunwall, too...

I'm really hoping the sequel touches more upon the more cosmic side of stuff. Revenge and playing as Emily and Corvo is awesome, but I'd love to see more of spooky stuff. I've always had the feeling Dunwall and the empire is on a planet in decline, either about to be consumed by the void or fall in on itself from plagues or something worse from Pandyssia, another place I hope we get to see. Darkness of Tyvia was a planned title at one point, maybe we'll get hellish imperial Russia in DLC.

>it's one of the rare pieces of media I think can be call themselves Lovecraftian and not necessarily have it be what people THINK Lovecraftian means
I liked Lovecraft countless primaeval eons before it was cool.

Lovecraftian aesthetic was never supposed to be about tentacles and eyes. The point wasn't squid-monsters so much as what they evoked; the sensation of transcendent otherness so beyond the audience's experience or expectations that they are shocked into touch with their wilder emotions. Mind-blasting, reason-crushing terror is one such emotion, but so is celestial awe, or inarticulable longing. The point is to create something so intense and unearthly that it blows away all pretenses of jaded detachment or sophisticated irony and forces the audience to confront the celestial.

For all the nihilism of his Cthulhu mythos, Lovecraft was a romanticist.

I think Bloodborne managed to capture this reasonably well, not because of the alien monstrosities so much as the transporting madness of Yarnham and its inhabitants. The Winter Lanterns aren't necessarily Lovecraftian at all, for example, but dead, sleeping Micolash exhorting the cosmos to grant him eyes is, through and through.

Still need to play Dishonored. It's sitting untouched in my Steam library.

Bloodborne headcanon!

You don't kill Mergo, only set it free from the nightmare the wet nurse kept it in. Hence why, of all the old ones you kill, the wet nurse is the only one that gets a "nightmare slain" when you kill it. It was in fact a terror imprisoning the ifnant god. That is why the ghost of Mergo's mother would hang around crying, why the baby was constantly crying. The Moonpresence is behind this, which is why it sends for you after you free Mergo.

Also, unrelated to any of that, the Doll can be heard praying to a god named Floren when praying at the grave next to the wokshop, as well as praying to the little ones. At no other place in the game is Floren mentioned.

Not "Floren." "Flora." The line is "O flora, of the moon, of the dream. O little ones, O fleeting will of the ancients..." She's praying to the lumenwood flowers, which we know have some sort of mystical significance.

Mergo is indeed the Great One you kill towards the end of the game. The Nightmare Slain notification doesn't appear immediately after the wetnurse dies, but rather waits until Mergo's cries fade away, signifying the dissipation of its formless essence.

The Moon Presence has little to do with this: it's the benevolent Great One beckoned by Laurence and Gerhman when it became apparent that the Beast Plague was going to grow beyond their ability to control. Gerhman, wracked with grief over the death of his hunters and particularly the suicide of his apprentice Maria, provoked the Moon Presence's sympathy and so it crafted for him the Hunter's Dream, where a living doll in the likeness of his dead student would reside with him forever to help him care for the Hunters to come, who would be rendered immortal by the Dream's anchor against death. The Moon Presence, being as it was a creature far beyond Gerhman's existence, improperly comprehended his desires, and in its good-natured attempt to help wound up trapping him in a torturous prison.

Truly, it is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

'The Great One are mostly sympathetic in nature' is a great spun on the Eldritch Horror story. They aren't actively malicious, or uncaring like in Lovecraft stories. Rather, they are so alien in nature their helps corrupt, taint and poison.

Kudos Bloodborne. I have literally never seen or read an Eldritch Horror story with the premise that the eldritch horrors are caring and compassionate. How it could be as horrific as if they were malicious never occurred to me.

nah, they're just not as space efficient as a sling/spring-bow

a nice even nine of those could be stacked in a neat block with a couple of barrels on either side to hold it up and keep a fairly large supply of bolts

How are you even supposed to use the Stake Driver, I swear... literally nothing in the setting is going to sit around and wait for you to wind up the gigabuster punch... Maaaybe a Watcher?

Meanwhile the Hunter's Axe has FANTASTIC RANGE (seriously, I think it's technicly longer than the spear) and the wind-up will fling away everything in a 360 arc... TWICE!

Which is great for catching good old Crowsteel the Edgelord of Cainhurst when he decides to go full *teleports behind you unsheathing katana* on you.

Extended, uncharged R2s, light combos, switch attacks, and saving the megaton punch for niche encounters. It's hilarious fun against virtually every boss, and if you can sprint away from someone, round a corner and time it right, the heedless (especially if you start off with it unequipped) will run right into it when they give chase.

In other words, learn its moveset and git gud.

His fucking pistol man... I could deal with the katana, but just when you think you got him he USES A BLOOD VIAL, tosses healing mist, and then pulls a teleporting double tap to the brainpan.

Thankfully he's a LOT more fun than Ebriatus... Slooot of the Cosmos. That entire battle is the Asylum demon with a lovecraft filter.

Perhaps it would be easier if I hadn't run out of bolt paper, so I had to be shoulder deep up her eldritch ass with the Tontrus while 'Spess Wizard Damien' worked her from the front with spells (because literally nobody will summon to the most boring deserted end of the game and there's no way I'm putting her off till NG+.)

I do rather like the Reitterpallasch though, despite not being specced for it at all. It just seems an elegant weapon, of a more civilized age.

Still, I have to wonder what exactly the Vilebloods were 'doing wrong'. If anything their admittedly classist and somewhat decadent society seemed less corrupt up than Yarhnam's with the grotesque statuary, rampant beasthood, and positively ghoulish 'burial practices.'

Time Stop is great for getting around awkward traps, you can run right through Walls of Light in the frozen time and disarm those fucking arc pylons. The problem is their range can still sometimes hit you even if you blink past, so you can za warudo and remove their oil tanks. Dark Vision takes up veeery little mana which refills by itself and can save from nasty encounters.

Absolute ghost mode with these powers.

While it does delve into tentacles and eyes at times, I'm finding Sunless Sea hits the unmentionable-other-beyond-your-ken vibe better than Bloodborne did, most of the people you interact with are weird but often in faintly human ways as much as inhuman ones and the Unknown is the ultimate enemy that'll kill a captain faster than any pirate.

you can also take on a tentacle monster as a crewmember and romance them, and they're one of the more normal romance options

Why is it that other Hunters I talk to aaleays say killing Gerhman is the bad ending? Even when you point out that he wants to die. And why does Eileen remember the dream but Djura doesn't?
>>
>>44430776
Theres the idea that him killing you is good. After all you wake up in actual yharnam still possibly ill. The problem is this assumes the dream yharnam and dreamdream yharnam are fake or seperate whereas even the game tells you all worlds are connected you just view and exist on a different sort of frequency and sufficiently powerful beings can and do fuck up shit on other frequencies. You let asshat become a new old one he's gonna fuck up waking world as well. You at least might make a more benevolent god. Deep lore states the moon is the actual BBEG going by its phases and subsequent vanishing. The sunrise is just showing that it achieved exactly what it wanted, a new birth. Endgame there is no legitimate good end just bad, bad, and 0.001% chance of good.
