I think I found a typo. The Mothership lists Hammerhead Ind. as it's manufacturer but it's description implies it's Herald made.

It's supposed to be Heralds, same with the Dhyana which is supposed to be Triglav. There's also some formatting issues on page 5 but I fixed that. Thanks for pointing it out, I'm combing it over myself.

I got a question on dreadnaughts. Can we increase hull armor or is it set to its 30s
>>
>>44274839
Motherships are so expensive that you can't feasibly outfit or crew them.
>>
>>44275038
You can't get hull mods on dreads (apart from command mods), so no, all the stats are as is.

>>44275045

The drones seem really pricey since unlike turrets you don't get half-off after the first, they can get shot down and I doubt they would scale in power like the weapons affixed to your ships do. Are there any advantages to drones over turrets?
>>
>>44275134
Main one is damage projection; your carrier can sit in safety while your drones go do the deed. Same reason why carriers are so prevalent today.

I do agree on the drone price, they used to be much cheaper. I'll see about adjusting it.
>>
>>44275075
so is all the stuff in an arsenal in the advance arsenal?
>>
>>44275561
No, it's all the advanced stuff. It's why they're separate.
>>
>>44275584
Then should you also buy the basic and standard infirmaries if you get the advanced one? And what about the Evacuation Room and the Advanced Evacuation?
>>
>>44275075
I understand that balance choice but it makes being able to complete certain contracts very difficult since some require Vehicle Bay mods (though I think the one for Rogue Drones is supposed to be Hanger Bay) because finding space in your budget for a whole second ship just to meet odd requirements like that is hard if you are running a dreadnought.
>>
>>44275584
Can you teleport into fighters?
>>
>>44275805
Good point.

I think we should allow dreads to complete those kinds of contracts without needing to purchase hangar/vehicle bays. I mean they're definitely large enough to fufill those requirements without needing them. What do you think?
>>
>>44275949
The idea behind fighters is that there's nowhere to teleport into. You should be safe without one in a fighter though.

>>44275709
Actually I agree, advanced arsenal should combine with a normal arsenal.

Both the standard and evac rooms are separate, mainly because you don't really have a need to have them in the same room. Same with the infirmaries. Both the infirmaries and the evac rooms have their lower-tier capabilities.

That said, you can have multiple evac rooms/infirmaries if you feel you need more of them in your ship.

That could do it, but I'm not sure why it would specifically needs those mods to begin with. I mean all ships but fighters and the Viper have that much hanger space any way. Pft you don't need THAT many life boats. Just ask the builders of The Titanic.
On a more serious note it wasn't made clear that the Advanced Armory wouldn't just have the lower-tier folded into like the other rooms I pointed out. So it kind of broke a pattern but didn't point that out.

I don't think it makes any sense that the Vehicle Bay and Hangar Bay increase in price with ship class. It makes sense for the other hull mods, but shouldn't it actually be cheaper to add more hangar room on bigger ships? It just doesn't seem right, I can't think of any rational way it would cost more because you're using a bigger ship.
>>
>>44276706
I'd assume the cost is for the equipment used to maintain the vehicles. Also game balance yo, can't get stats for free.
>>
>>44276637
Just trying to keep LDS's story interesting.

Out of curiosity though, what thread would you think it belonged?

Barring that, what would have been a better way to tie it in to my characters stat post?
>>
>>44276780
The game balance sense would only work if you got commesurately more hangar space for each purpose. As it is it just makes no sense that a little tiny frigate with barely enough room for 12 crew members can lug around a bunch of heavy tanks cheaper than a battleship with a massive amount of space and thousands of crew members.

In fact, the balance is off kilter too like this. Why would it make sense for a carrier to lug around frigates to up its hangar capacity instead of having more hangars in itself? Because the mechanics support this method at the moment.

No, I think it's just an oversight by SDA. That's why I'm pointing it out.
>>
>>44276833
Yeah, I misread your post. It's late, I'm tired. Mistakes were made.
>>
>>44274461

>>
>>44276873
free volunteers, whatevs
>>
>>44275075
Do the mod multipliers just apply to Command/Hull mods, or also to industrial/ewar mods?
>>
>>44276327
Eh... I think it's logical to just have the advanced arsenal a straight upgrade from the regular arsenal. It accommodates all of what the regular arsenal offers like the infirmary and evac rooms.

>>44276706
Originally I had the vehicle/hangar bays as rooms, and I thought they were more fitting to be classified as mods instead. I would assume that the cost comes from the refurnishing of the insides of the ship.

In terms of the cyoa mechanics, I found it fitting because all the other stats require scaling costs, so I included it there.

>>44276833
Yeah, I didn't think of that. Expect some changes to this...

As for the balancing between realtime spaces/metrics, it's always been off skew like this. A 1km long battleship should be able to accommodate dozens of more weapons but for balancing purposes it's going to keep as is.
>>
>>44274839
So, how exactly do you determine the price of the ships? Because the price ramps on the smaller ship classes seem rather sever compared to their stat differences.
On another note, does the cost reduction for multiple ships now only effect hull costs?
>>
>>44276913
Only command/hull mods. Anything under the "Mods" title divider. I should make this more clear.
>>
>>44276931
I think that anything that carves up space inside the ship should count as rooms; mods should be things that provide buffs/capabilities that do not impact the space available.
>>
>>44270994
First of all I'm very happy to finally get to play this updated CYOA. I've read through most of it and I'm overall very happy with the update.

I've always wondered how 0G Mobile Suits compare with Fighters. Can they compete combat-wise with them? Ever consider a 4-hanger space "fighter version" of a mobile suit?

Are Pilot Archetypes single purchase nameless NPC pilots (the NPC page doesn't say)? I'm assuming there for if I need many pilots but don't want to buy named pilots.
>>
>>44271020
One thing that I've always really disliked about SD is the energy subsystems. I'm really disappointed they didn't change.
>>
>>44276942
Only hull costs.

One thing you have to remember is that the ship costs aren't supposed to reflect their stats; there isn't something like 1 point in hull armour = 0.5m. Price ramps up high on more elite models, giving diminished returns on your investment but an overall improvement over lesser models. Same thing with real life products; better stuff costs a lot more than it's supposed to be worth, but we buy them anyways because they're better.

I'm not denying there's issues with this, though. I'm going to continually look at price balancing, since I've introduced a new way money is managed here. I'm definitely thinking of cutting a little from the rewards of the top 3 Titles (Demigod, Fatebreaker, Demigod). I dunno how starting with 900m cash before contracts is inherently a good thing, even if these Titles are pretty tough to face. Maybe I should balance this out with how you can spend that money.

>>44277032
I thought about this but ended up putting the bays in the mods section because these give you stats. It's more of a "increase your stats" section than anything else logical; hence the removal of the subsystem approach. I wanted to make up for removing them by adding a section dedicated to modifying your ship further.

>>44277048
I'm sorry to say that at this point in the SD universe, mobile suits haven't developed well. Those 0G mobile suits can't really go toe-to-toe with standard fighters. I was thinking that they're more like anti-drone platforms. I have considered additional vehicles in that section, so maybe there's a chance I'll add them in.

It seems I left out the pilot archetype description. Yeah, they're just nameless pilots you can make pilot ships in place of the named ones. I have them there because I assume carrier builds are gonna like massing up on fighters.
>>
>>44277143
What do you want to see?

>>44276873
There's no benefit to go over 7 energy, really. Fluff wise, I guess it just means more energy in your reserves which means less trips needed for refueling.
>>
>>44274839
Yeah the costs for a lot of stuff seems really expensive.

The cost of some of the shielding and the antimatter core seem to a bit high.

>>44277219
I'll try to explain I guess, I don't know how much sense I'll make.

The problem with the energy subsystems to me is that there's 7 pips of energy possible but the subsystems just don't fit well into that number. Getting fusion twice is inefficient, while the only good way to get exactly 7 is if you add one fission into it, which I really don't like because it's fission, and I don't like the idea of mixing different ones anyway, it just seems like something that wouldn't be done outside the mechanical constraints of the CYOA itself. Now, this much might just seem like my own autism speaking, but if you look at the anti-matter core and the mana core the problem is compounded. You can't cleanly get to 7 pips of energy with those because you need exactly 2, and nothing gives you only 2.

The solar panels could work if they didn't have a pathetic charge duration that makes them useless in any situation where you really need that seventh pip of energy, and pointless when you don't.

Solutions that I can think of would be:
>make energy an 8 pip scale instead of 7
>make it possible to get more expensive versions of the same type of reactor, this is already sort of the case with some of them, but I think the situation would be much better if you could choose between a standard mana core and a more expensive mana core for example
>make fuel cells available on any ship: I mean, it would make sense, large scale power capacitors are a thing you know

>>
>>44277358
>>44277219
Also, mana + fission or antimatter + fission seems even worse in the fluff department. Outside the CYOA system I'm having real trouble imagining what could force someone to use such a mix.
>>
>>44277358
>>44277219
Also, in case you like the Fuel Cell on any ship solution, you could make a note that their price increases with ship cost unlike the other reactors. That would keep it balanced.

>>44277358
Good observations and I do agree with most of them. I share your autism. The energy subsystem part really hasn't changed since I first released this thing, so I agree that it's probably due for a slight tweak.

I think changing the scale to 8 is the best way to go about this. I'm iffy on universal fuel cells because I think having such capacitors on a self-sustaining ship meant to spend a long time in space kind of defeats their purpose. They would be powered by the main power source, so I don't think that really improves power output unless we get really mathematical (capacitors store excess energy that can be outputted later when needed). We'd have to factor in time and usage.

Though we can forgo the science and just say that fuel cells can be coupled with another energy source to add 2 or 3 extra power output.

Except, I kinda like the idea of having two reactors in a ship. I think I'm going to go with a scaling system of 8... even if this still kind of leaves anti-matter and mana cores still in a weird place. Hell, what if I do both?

Thanks anon for the insight, I'm going to dwell on this.
>>
>>44277543
The thing that bothers me the most, honestly, is that you HAVE to take a fission reactor along with one of the bigger ones to get max energy on a ship bigger than a frigate. Whenever I got to the energy subsystems part hat fission reactor would just keep popping up like an unwelcome cancer.

>Except, I kinda like the idea of having two reactors in a ship.
I also like the idea of two reactors on a ship, I just really dislike the though of combining something like fission reactors with super high tech ones which logically seem like they should be able to do hundreds of times the work of any fission reactor.

>I think I'm going to go with a scaling system of 8... even if this still kind of leaves anti-matter and mana cores still in a weird place. Hell, what if I do both?
You could also make every power reactor variable in output for extra cost. Or maybe just the two high tier ones. Something like
>you can get a standard antimatter core that gives you 5 points of energy for 50m, or a larger 7 energy point one that counts as two reactors for 90m
>>
>>44277193
> I'm definitely thinking of cutting a little from the rewards of the top 3 Titles (Demigod, Fatebreaker, Demigod). I dunno how starting with 900m cash before contracts is inherently a good thing

Ok, though that would leave fitting Dreadnaughts a rather tight thing even if you only had that one ship.

>Only hull costs.
>I assume carrier builds are gonna like massing up on fighters.

Not sure that's really feasible any more unless you are going for dirt cheap fighter builds. Filling an Asmodia (smallest capacity carrier) with the cheapest fighter build will be over 200 mil.
>>
>>44277193
Cutting rewards? I already can't create a perfect battleship and I didn't even use any of the weapon slot expansion mods.
>>
>>44277543
>>44277611
Another option is cost reduction on a 2nd reactor of the same type as the first.
>>
>>44277727
Yeah, that too. I'm ashamed I didn't think of saying that since I was already houseruling that for myself in previous versions.
>>
>>44277612
>>44277626
Okay, I guess I won't reduce awards for now. For some reason I was under the impression that you get too much to start with, but looking at it, it's only if you go for the most expensive titles. Maybe I should make them harder instead?

That said, I'm doing price reductions on hulls all around, mostly for the smaller ships. I tried to stay faithful with the prices on the old subsystem method, they should be relatively similar.

>>44277727
Sounds like a good idea. I think I'm gonna go with this too.

>>44277611
Since we're going with a lot of changes to energy, I think I'm just going to hold off on the "upgradeable" energy system thing.

Right now I'm changing the energy scale to 8 (which means I gotta replace all energy stat bars...) and am making fuel cells (now called power capacitors) universal. If you get fuel cells on a larger ship coupled with another energy source, you don't have to recharge them, they just give a boost of 3 energy. Though, to compensate for this, I'm increasing the price of power caps a little. I'm thinking 10m or 14m, since there'd pretty much be no reason to get fission.
>>

I don't like the new Uplink image desu

How does alignment work anyway? I assume that federation members are going to desert if you go full pirate, but is having a pirate engineer and a federation doctor or something like that at the same time catastrophic? Or is it just awkward until they get used to it?
>>
>>44277981
That's just her with Realistic-flesh Waifu upgrade kit.
>>
>>44278020
It actually determines who you can hire base on your starting alignment. The diplomacy skill specifically deals with hiring some opposite aligned crew members relative to you. Other wise I'd assume if you are neutral and hire crew of opposing alignments it's just awkward. Atleast on smaller ships where they can't avoid each other.
>>
>>44278068
Oh. I never considered that because I always took a neutral start.

Not technically true, but i wasn't me when i woke up. From where i lived, i woke up in America, with the Men in Black from the CIA to thank for it.
Now i'm the guy people go to when shit gets weird, i have the skills and abilities to get to the bottom of a problem, get the truth out of people, and all while being the legal guardian of Hannah. Pretty sure this is an old as fuck repost. Not that I'm complaining about that, but hey, if it is new and I'm crazy, then I do have legitimate complaints.

Some of these descriptions need to be changed for people who already have what a given rank provides. As another anon mentioned, CHA-1 is an obvious one, but also, PER-2 "You can also wiggle your ears, but this is for effect." How is something everyone can do a bonus? If you think you can't, you're probably just not paying attention. Go do something that makes you happy, if it gets you to a giddy type happy, that's better. Then just relax your head completely, go for a sleep-face. You'll feel your ears drop to a normal position, as you've raised them in your gleeful expression. Focus on how that feels and you'll know how to actually wiggle them normally too.

While wearing my transforming armor with a familiar/bound spirit who gives me situational awareness and blocks projectiles for me. Plus stylish AF, cool hat, and a magic treasure compass.

Could be a pirate, go seek knowledge, or treasure or just ride around having adventures with my bros forever

Is there more detailed lore for this CYOA? Like is the Federation Navy sponsoring privateers or everyone from this origin is a commanding officer within it? Who or what are the Heralds?

>>44282261
My rule of thumb is that whatever's not directly in the CYOA isn't exactly canon but isn't entirely wrong, either. I encourage people to build their own lore with what's on the CYOA.

That doesn't mean I don't have my own ideas on the lore or how these things are solved, though. Even so, if I were to tell you here, I don't really want to force what I think versus what you think, since I like the whole different interpretation thing.

Welcome aboard the Gaultier, Hammerhead’s own self-sufficient budget battleship! We’re normally a mining and ore-selling operation, thank you very much, but we can take care of ourselves in a fight, too. Lately, we’ve also started taking on strange passengers and traveling to weird corners of the galaxy; it’s some pretty scary shit. Luckily for us, this tough old maid has taken every beating they’ve given her and come out scarier than before. So if you’ve got some rocks to trade, or some things you’re willing to trade for rocks, then the Gaultier is here for you!

Those people who claim drones are too expensive don't know what they're talking about.

A bomber drone only takes up 3/4 of the space of a fighter, comes with a free torpedo silo, if you don't purchase a torpedo silo directly that means the first bomber drone you buy is literally FREE while every subsequent bomber drone you buy has an effective cost of 7m credits. While the cheapest fighter costs 8, has slightly better performance but comes with no weapons.

With Beatrice R&D's origin, purchasing the first Bomber Drone is like buying a torp. silo at 13m credits THAT COMES WITH ITS OWN SHIP. And every subsequent bomber drone purchase has an effective cost of 6m credits.

Buying a ID-9F carrier with a hanger bay, nuclear fusion engine and solar panels, and 18 bomber drones would cost 343m credits (they make halo don;t they?)

Which you can buy with all the credits you earned from all the tier 4 contracts not including the one that requires anti-matter cannons with tip money left over.

I know there is, but that was always the case. I think the Soldier of the Stars did it better but I have no idea of how to implement these skills as good. In the DLC I have you track your stats, which reflects your stats if you were to be hired by someone in the main CYOA.

Maybe I could follow a similar formula where skills determine your pilot stats.

Is there some sort of underlying story with the Fatebreaker title? It seems like the complications could be connected

In my Star-Dust, my PC is a Dustkeeper who found some Herald artifact of huge importance, and sells it for dosh at the Star Dust station. I took on the titles of Fatebreaker and Harbinger, and the way I see it, the Whisperer AI transferred from the artifact onto my ship, and is somehow connected to the Heralds. The surviving heralds (I say surviving because I assume them to be some lost civilization ala the Forerunners from Halo) are in some abstract deep part of the universe, and want the Whisperer back. Hence the Sleeper drones being sent out to try and collect myself and the ship, then the Traveller part of the Fatebreaker title comes in as my ship gets sucked up and transported to the Herald hub in deep space.
>>
>>44284264
He may of based it off Star Trek Voyager. The A.I is similar to the hologram doctor, the drones are similar to the Borg and the Traveler Title matches the plot.

Neato. I'd just like to say you're doing God's work cause Star Dust is a godly CYOA.

I've got a question for roleplaying purposes.

Are the sleeper drones a constant pursuit of "Holy shit we need to hurry the fuck up and get out of this system" or is it more of a one out of every three systems every few weeks "Fuck they showed up again. We need to go." kinda thing.
>>
SDA, have you considered adding back in the 100 million backstories to the origins?

I liked how in earlier versions of Stardust it would give a little backstory to your character and how they got the cash, I realize now it's more open to roleplaying but still, I liked that aspect of it. Gave the player story a bit of structure.

Are the Frigates the size of say, Serenity?

I want to do a Firefly/GOTG style tightly knit group of space adventurers, but I'm wondering which ship size is the best for me.
>>
>>44284009
Just another issue I noticed is that it's difficult to create "intermediate" class ships. Like if you wanted a Light Cruiser or Destroyer Leader type of ship, you'd either have to pick a Cruiser and use hull reductions and other mods, in which case you still get screwed by the cost multiplier. Or you pick a Destroyer and waste a lot of your credits upgrading it to an acceptable level.
>>
>>44284793
I'd say frigates even a bit bigger than that, but for practical purposes they're the closest.
I made a similar build in >>44279186

My idea behind the Sleeper title is a mix between that. They send out waves of drones against you that don't stop until destroyed, but take time between waves to rebuild. I'm not gonna step on any other interpretations here though.

>>44284592
The argument against it is pretty much >>44284611 and I do agree with it. It's better to loredrop and let you make your own backstory.

>>44284793
That was the idea behind them, though these frigates are generally bigger. They're still a bit cramped if you cram in the max crew count though.

>>44284825
I have mentioned the possibility of corvette, light cruiser, and battlecruiser class vessels. Those are not in any plans right now however, my main focus is balance.

Seeing all these builds, I think I need to make it clear just how hard Demigod and the other high tier titles are. Some of these builds are clever and can hold their own, but usually only for awhile.
>>

>>
>>44285038
>think I need to make it clear just how hard Demigod and the other high tier titles are
Maybe you should make it possible to actually build a good ship without having to take them then if they're nothing more than trap options?
>>
>>44285038
Which builds in particular would you say are best suited to handling those higher-tier titles.

Also, at least for The Sorcerer and the The Guardian, as long you stay out of Federation space you should be mostly safe for the The Guardian. And provided you stay close enough to large military centers you should be safe enough from the Fire Legion for The Sorcerer.
>>
>>44285080

This. I'm interested in the Heraldic ships, because they are mysterious and cool, but the fact that you can't even run the Destroyer without a 90+ title is a little discouraging. I mean, I know they are supposed to be rare, but as it is, you are better off buying two "normal priced" hulls for the price of one Heraldic...
>>
>>44285148
It's another reason why those single-ship builds are being unfairly disadvantaged for the carrier swarms. If he wants to buff offensive ships like he said earlier, making it actually possible to BUY the good ones without killing yourself would be a good first step.
>>
>>44285038
> I think I need to make it clear just how hard Demigod and the other high tier titles are. Some of these builds are clever and can hold their own, but usually only for awhile.

So all the combo titles are just death machines? Kind of lame, considering they provide good story driven/structured adventurers for the players to go on.

Honestly none of the companions seem very good. It seems like there's probably some way to use the Defector perk and the Traitor drawback to min max (or just get more interesting companions), but I'm lazy.
>>
>>44285199
I think he means less that they are death sentences, and more that you have to design your build to be suitable for the titles.
>>
>>44285253
He implied that all the builds so far would get killed, so it seems like you'd have to build something EXTREMELY specific. Which isn't any fun either, since then there's no choice element.
>>
>>44285269
I think its akin to taking the 2000 drawbacks in Traveler.
Yes you can, But theres a very small chance your going to survive.

>>
>>44285304
>Dont powergame.
But you NEED the higher tier titles to buy a good ship, especially if you're running a solo ship.

>>44285134
>Which builds in particular would you say are best suited to handling those higher-tier titles.
You'll have to come up with something crafty, and I'm not gonna be specific. Just remember that with Demigod, you're against the Fire Legion and some shady Federation organizations.

Separately, the Sorcerer and Guardian are relatively manageable by most builds, so I'm not concerned with them.

>>44285148
If you feel it's better to buy two normal hulls over a Herald one, then go for it. That's how it's supposed to be. The prices on this version for Herald ships are actually cheaper than ever before in the CYOA.

>>44285189
I really want to buff all pre-carrier ships, although I don't know how. Would more broadsides help?

>>44285199
This >>44285253
I don't want to discourage people from taking the titles, I just don't want every build to pick the same title. They're the hardest titles for a reason.

You have to remember that I designed the titles this way to lessen the "power tripping", and I know that's hard to do with /tg/. I want people to make mild builds and middle-class builds as well, not always the "I can take on the whole universe" sort of stuff. And I appreciate that some people are taking it the way I intended.
>>
>>44285340
>>44285327
No, he's right. I don't want it to be a death machine, I want it to be difficult.

By this, I mean I'm probably just going to lower the rewards from them by a few million. Don't take my word on that, though.
>>
>>44285148

Maybe remove the Mana reactor and the Heraldic shields, and roll those bonuses into the hulls themselves? It throws the math off a whole lot.

An Archeron with Anti-Matter and Stalwart is 190m. A Carapace with Mana and Heraldic is 180m, for universally better stats. It is less of an issue when you go larger than Destroyer size, as the cost difference scales up the larger you go, but it sort of goes against your current plan of "Heraldic technology is ultra-luxury for rich people".

It starts getting silly when you consider that you can get a cheap carrier and then load up on Grins for 30% off, plus the static discounts of Mana and Heraldic. I know what you are trying to do, but combining static and scaling discounts is just asking for abuse.
>>
>>44285304
Except it's nothing like that. In Traveller the only constant downside of Brothers of the Bite is that you'll only make one real friend in your entire time there. You don't have to run into firefights and get killed because you only have one companion, you can just chill on Ae with fewer friends than otherwise.

The higher tier drawbacks in Star Dust are more combat centric, so dying is much more likely.
>>
>>44285269
Obviously you just need to take 3-6 carriers, with a factory and ore processing wing on board each ship and just drown the chellenges in scout drones.

ID-9F with solar panels/Fusion Reactor and full upgraded hangar bays costs 118 each.

A scout drone with Beatrice R&D origins costs 1m credit. 120 scout drones can fit into each carrier.

3 bare bones Id-9F carriers carrying a total of 360 scout drones comes out as 714m credits.

Taking Demigod and hellraiser means you still have 206m credits leftover.

Of course to better survive the challenges you might only want 200~ scout drones, some combat, brawler and bomber drones, as well as self repair, shield and mining drones so you can build more drones as you drone the drone until everything is drones.

>>44285385
>lower the rewards
So even less people take them and it's outright impossible to take high-tier ships or trick out a good solo ship build?
>>
>>44285340

>>
>>44285399

>>
>>44285498
I too prefer solo ships, which is why I'm advocating for them, because currently swarms are overpowered.
>>
>>44285367

What I miss from the older editions is the ability to make a ship that is only 2/3 Heraldic and then taking a cheaper component for the last 1/3.

Okay, I guess that my real problem is the Mana reactor. Saving 30m on it by buying Heraldic is too good a carrot to dangle out there, and then you can save an additional 40m on Heraldic shields. If you are going to keep it in the game, make it a better option for more than a tiny slice of the ships.
>>
>>44278450
With these, the Nemesis is always so overpowered that I just accept that I have to stick with two choices. Like, 2 for free or 3 and you're murdered isn't a difficut choice

I wanted to make a build, but in order to create something decent you need to pick titles. God, why. I don't like that.
>>
>>44285459
Carriers are supposed to be the most capable ships, though. I'm not trying to balance it so a single fighter can take on a carrier, that's not how it works.

Ships cost the same as they always have, and on top of that you now start with more money than ever before in this CYOA depending on your title choices. Demigod plus the original 100m puts you at 520m already, and that's before contracts and a second title.

Destroyers are literally designed to take out ships like Carriers. Maybe not in your CYOA, but in real life. So why are they so janked?

Seriously, I don't see how it's so hard to make solo Destroyer and Battleship viable options. Some people like to roll a solo ship and not have a carrier swarm, you know. Those builds should be viable.

>Demigod
You mean the thing you just came out and said was an unwinnable trap?
>>
>>44285980

>>
>>44285980
>Ships cost the same as they always have, and on top of that you now start with more money than ever before in this CYOA depending on your title choices.

SDA besides minor balancing issue with the individual ship hulls, there is nothing with your cyoa, people nowadays are a lot more spoiled then they were ever before.

Also they want to play your cyoa like it was space refuge cyoa.
>>
>>44286083
Why you dick ridin' man? People have criticism, do you really think he should have people blindly saying 'there's no problems at all nope they're entitled!' to it?

>>
>>44286049

>>
>>44286113
>do you really think he should have people blindly saying 'there's no problems at all nope they're entitled!' to it?

Do you really think he should buckle to every single demand?

Because the new Stardust cyoa plays just like the old one, you kind of have to take titles and contracts, squeeze every bit of optimization out of your credit to get the build you want
>>
>>44286026
Put out one fire, start another. Talk to me here.

I am reducing carrier hangar capacity by about 6 spaces for each carrier, I think that's fair. But I am on the side that really believes they're supposed to be very capable. That said, a carrier is usually countered by a battleship in this setting, or focused fire from smaller ships. Seriously, put some thought into your point defence mounts--they're there for a reason.

>>44286049
One of my favourite builds is carrier-destroying destroyers.

I was under the impression that destroyers are pretty strong in the cyoa. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm currently looking over pre-carrier hulls. Like I said, I want to buff them, particularly destroyers if they're not viable.

>You mean the thing you just came out and said was an unwinnable trap?

>>
>>44286306
Dreadnaughts are a neat idea, yeah, but there's really not enough money to make a viable one.
>>
>>44286306
The most expensive dread is "Mothership", which costs 540m. 38 combat drones is 152m. 40 heavy laser cannons for broadsides is 164m. 7 pulse laser cannons for spinal mounts is 49m. 1 AMC is 80m. 2 fusion reactors is 60m.

That's only a little over 1b, exactly 1,045m.

Demigod + Hellraiser/Fatebreaker puts us at a 920m start. All T4 contracts minus Ace, Mining King Steve, and Asunder, Sweet gives us an extra 280m to spend on crew, rooms, misc modules, and all the requirements to finish those contracts. This is with the most expensive hull in the game with a generous payload of modules, and I'm going to be imposing cost reductions on energy systems next update.

I don't see how this is an issue.

>>44286462
I need help wrapping my head around these dreadnaughts. Everyone wants one now, and it's the whole reason I was reluctant to add them in. I knew people were gonna complain that they're hard to get, but that's the entire point of dreadnaughts.

What you people have to understand settings/lore wise is, if you own a dreadnaught, everyone's going to know you. You've made yourself a big, big target.
>>

Alright, so, Mana Cores. I'm not sure that I really have a problem with them, due to the fact that they are the only real way to make Heraldic ships viable, but the discount does shit on the other "luxury" hulls.

What about shifting the prerequisite for the discount somewhere else? Add in a "Mana Accumulator" compartment that provides a 10m discount towards a Mana Core that stacks up to 40m, remove the discount for Heraldic hulls. Let Heraldic hulls take the place of "top of the line luxury craft" and make Mana Cores and Heraldic Shields be "space magic you get increasing rewards for investing in" rather than "systems that make Heraldic ships flat out better than Talon ships".

Heraldic ships still receive more power from Mana Cores, making full Heraldic still a viable build, and it gives Talon ships the niche of "luxury ship that doesn't need to spend 4 room slots on accumulators for maximum benefit".

I'm working on build where my character solved it. He showed his proof to the R&D committee that proposed the question . The proof was too convoluted and absolutely impossible to figure out so he was requested to demonstrate. All witnesses and all recordings of the live demonstration were erased from existence by the mere act of the demonstration. Miraculously he survived but barely and just ran for his life.

He's batshit insane, when a enormous sum of money transferred into his account and a wanted man, everyone wants to know the solution.

>>44287686
That's... actually an interesting idea. I'm gonna think on it. But the less complicated the solution, the better. I've considered adding 1 extra energy point to mana cores, but that would mean I'd have to 1-up anti-matter, which would put it at 6/8 energy (new energy scale is by 8) and that would be awkward.

So yeah, this update is mostly just balancing changes, formatting fixes, and energy system revamp. For those of you who weren't in the know how, it's basically just increasing the energy requirement/output scale to 8 instead of 7. Buying two fusion reactors now nets you a neat 8/8 energy, no autism tickled.

I ended up adding more broadside, spinal, point-defence weapon hardpoints and hangar space on all ships before carrier, while also sort of reducing the hangar space on carriers themselves.

Pricing of some hulls have been adjusted, but none too drastically.

Carriers must still buy drones at full price, but I have reduced the cost of all the combat-oriented drones by a bit.

I have no doubt that there's still a lot of balancing work to be done, but I am trying my utmost to be adamant with this update. I don't want to change too much going forward and would like to stay with this one version, even if flawed. So long as it's playable, we are good. I know I haven't implemented everything we discussed here, but if they are absolutely needed, then we can go to 2.0.2. But, largely, this is it.

So I was once a bounty hunter for the ordo xenos, became an inquisitor somehow, then turned renegade and started hunting xenos for free, I'm hated by my fellow inquisitors, my mission is to kill a planetary governor in a world that's a puppet territory for the tau empire, and I have one of the OG daemon princes out for my blood without me having any sort of psychic protection. On an actively hostile tau empire planet. Without any imperial support.

I've never smoked before, but I think I should pack about 50 cigars or so. I think there'd be better chances of living if you tried to kill an eldar craftworld.

Heraldic is both heraldry and heralds.
Heraldric is the one that's specific to heraldry.

I've determined that it works like the infirmaries and evac rooms; advanced arsenal has all the standard one has to offer, so there's no reason to have them in the same room. Thanks for the effort, though.

>>44289733
I haven't really put too much thought into it. My idea behind tractor beams was to retrieve space junk (like space junk from ship wreckage of your latest battle). I would assume that its limits are what you can feed through your air locks and into your cargo... although that's still vague. Yeah, size of ship could affect it.

I would say that a destroyer tractor beam could pull a small to medium sized house worth of weight.

>>44290122
All ships only really need one pilot to function, you can just have that many in that ship. I actually don't know why I imposed that limitation.

So long as someone's there to pilot a ship, it'll fly.

>>44290207
I did? All frigates have hangar space, though. I didn't really touch the hangar space for frigates, only imposed a limit of up to 8.

>>44290244
It was mostly going to be costs, but judging from some builds and feedback, I kept it as is.

>>44290256
Nyah, I'm just gonna keep it as mana shields for now.

Hey SDA, I know this is probably too late, but I have always thought that the most complicated titles, Hellraiser, Fatebreaker and Demigod can be fleshed out. I'm not saying to change their cost, just clear up how difficult are they and some of the expectations a build must have in order to handle them successfully. What does it mean to have shady Federation and the brunt of the Fire Legion on your ass, etc

thanks for making SD thou
>>
>>44290324
I think its weird that a Herald fighter costs more than some battleships or a carrier.

By the way how much hanger space does a fighter take up?

As long as your taking suggestions, you may want to consider rolling the hangar bay/vehicle bay upgrade into one. It just seems strange to me that you can put a dropship or lamprey into a vehicle bay but not a drone or a fighter.

Also, just curious but why did you change the intro with the bonuses? I thought stuff like "in control" or "dontn't call me tavi" added a lot of flavor

Nice work btw. You made a lot anons happy with this I'm sure
>>
>>44290810
Expect the Fire Legion to come after you when you're hanging out in backwater/fringe areas. Otherwise if you're in the middle of inhabited space you can expect the occasional suicide attack by smaller ships they snuck through.

At least that's how I interpret that.

>>
>>44291880

The Destroyers are about the size of the Normandy SR-2, which was capable of entering atmosphere and landing on a planet's surface. So Destroyers and under should be ok for planetary landings.

Name: Gastor Laz
Titles: The Demigod Traveller
Origin: Beatrice R+D
Skills: All (going to need them)

Ship #1- the Inheritor
Beatrice R+D Abyss Carrier (86m)
Fission Reactor x2, Solar Panels (42m)
Advanced Shields (24m)
BH Command VR (20m)
Flack Cannons x10 (22m)
Missile Launcher x4 (10m)
Salvage Harvester (3m)
Composition Scanner (5m)
Teleport Blocker (4m)
(192m total)

Ship #2, the Ancient and #3, the Forgotten
Heraldic Grin (60m)
Mana Cell (40m)
Heraldic Shields (40m)
Zip command system (6m)
Spinal Mounts: Tesla Overcharger x3 (18m)
Broadsides: Missile Launchers x 10 (20m)
Point Defense: Flak Cannons x 2 (4m)
(188 x 2 m total)

This is how far I've gotten, and my eyes are starting to cross. That leaves me 132m for rooms, crew, and drones. Am I going to have enough, or should I quit while I'm ahead?

Two Frigates that can each fistfight a medium-cost cruiser or cheap-o Battleship, which can dock with the Carrier when not engaged, plus make planetfall. Carrier boosts shields while they close to Tesla range, blow out the shields and try for a stun, then either board via Lamprey or dump missiles into it, salvage with the carrier.

>>44292985
Next stop: What do you mean 'budget cuts'?
>>
>>44292881
>>44293064
Now, I need to decide which Point-Defence weapon is the best overall. Because it looks like I'll be buying just 1 type for the bulk discount.

I'm normally quite partial to the Flak Cannon because it's pretty versatile and good against small craft. But I'm thinking the Machinegun or Light Laser Cannon might be better as an "all around" PD weapon that can shred anything that gets too close.
>>
>>44293160
Third stop: YOU CAN'T CUT FUNDING FOR POINT-DEFENCE! YOU WILL REGRET THIS!
>>
>>44290324
Hmm, what exactly are you capable of producing with a factory wing? Parts to repair your ship with? Parts to upgrade your ship with? Smaller ships and/or drones?
>>
>>44293206
As much as I'd like to assume a shit-load of Heavy Laser Cannons would do a great job of preventing anything from getting close, I don't trust that at all.
>>
>>44292881

As has been said, repeatedly, in the thread so far, don't buy a large Heraldic ship. The cost you are paying for marginal increase in stats is simply not worth it. If you take a Razortail with double Antimatter and Aegis Shielding, you only pay 214m.

You can add one spinal mount (4m), two broadside mounts (4m), two Hanger Space (6m), three Afterburners (9m), Nanoarmor (6m), Two hull extensions (2m), and a Shield Extender (6m) for a total of 47m, and you will have the same or better stats as a Pyramid.

By passing on the special snowflake alien ship, you save 80m, and you are only 1 Shield Power behind. Do not buy large Heraldic ships.
>>
>>44293160
You may also want to consider what type of damage the weapon does. For instance I got Ship Weapon Specialization and chose Kinetic. Which is why the only non-kinetic weapon I have is the Anti-Matter Cannon.

But I see your point about Flak Cannons being the best all around for bulk defense so I may end up adjusting my build and replace the 6 machine guns with 6 more Flak Cannons.

I was more going with a Dustkeeper themed character since the description for the Pyranid says they were discovered by the Dustkeepers.

I can min-max on a different build, mostly trying this one out for funsies.

Right now with 5 Afterburners and two hull reductions I have one of the fastest Battleship in the galaxy at 10/25 Navigation. There are some Battleships that can get that fast, but they'd have to match the Pyramid in terms of firepower.
>>
>>44289096
Fuck yeah, I can get that sweet, sweet red/black dreadnought. As soo as I figure out how to afford it.
>>
>>44293408
One of the things I've been thinking is that the origin discounts really aren't effective for larger vessels. For example getting 6m off of a Blackhawk Destroyer or up isn't really much at all.

So why not make it a percentage-based discount? This way it'll actually scale well for larger ships, while not making smaller ships too cheap.
>>
>>44293655
I'm also surprised the Dustkeepers don't get a discount on Herald tech/ships. Their description and the description of a couple ships seem to imply the Dustkeepers encounter Herald things more than any other faction.
>>
>>44293717
>>44293655
The other thing might be to get a discount off on crew archetypes or crew members based off origin. Doesn't make much sense that someone from the Federation Navy would have to pay the same as a Civilian to hire Federation soldiers and crew.
>>
>>44289096

The Carrier is heraldic.
The Frigate is Pulsar.
The Fighter is Triglav.
The Frigate decoy is civilian.

The carrier would be a mobile base of operation. a self sufficient safe haven where people could basically live free without ever having to really work. passengers could stay in the captains quarters and pay a fare. And miners could work for a share of the profits.
The heradic shields and mana powersystem basically makes this thing fucking impenetrable. Add to it the additional frigate tier heraldic shields when the Quantum is docked, and this thing can survive a direct hit from a dreadnought tier antimatter cannon.

The Frigate would be small, agile, and generally a nice place to stay in during the years traveling the galaxy. It's the main ship.

The docked Fighter is a necessity for self defense.

The second frigate is an autonomous transport ship to ferry the mined goods or do basic transport jobs. It's not particularly well defended, but on the other hand there can be no explosive decompression on a frigate that doesn't have an atmosphere. It's generally a decoy and the memory of the android is downloaded regularly.
>>
>>44293773

Do this! It fixes a lot of math wierdness, and makes choosing your origin much more impactful.

It also makes Dustkeepers and Beatrice less obvious choices.
